Facebook says it's bringing in several emoticons
you'll be able to use instead soon. (Thumb fans,
don't despair, that's not going anywhere).
The new "reactions" will let users express love,
laughter, happiness, shock, sadness and anger.
It works by hovering or long-pressing the Like
button and selecting the relevant emoji that you
want to put in your message.
The status will then count how many likes, loves,
angers, etc. you've had.

It comes just three weeks after Facebook boss
Mark Zuckerberg said the social network was
finally working on a "dislike button" after years of
calls from users.
But it now looks like this is the alternative he
was talking about.
At the time, he said he wanted people to be able
to show empathy, but not to put down other
people's posts.
The site's chief product officer, Chris Cox, now
says the new "expressive like button" is being
rolled out in a test run starting in Ireland and
Spain.
"As you can see, it's not a 'dislike' button, though
we hope it addresses the spirit of this request
more broadly."

He says they studied the comments and reactions
most commonly expressed across Facebook
before coming up with what he calls an "elegant
and fun" design around them.
The company says it hopes to roll the feature out

Iraq has said that its military officials are
engaged in intelligence and security cooperation
in Baghdad with Russia, Iran, and Syria to
counter the threat from the Islamic State of
Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a pact that could
raise concerns in the US.
A statement from the Iraqi military's joint
operations command on Saturday said the
cooperation had come "with increased Russian
concern about the presence of thousands of
terrorists from Russia undertaking criminal acts
with [ISIL]".
The move comes as at the same time Russia
has stepped up its military involvement in Syria
in recent weeks, while pressing for Damascus
to be included in international efforts to fight
ISIL, a demand Washington rejects.
The announcement also reflects Iran's
increasing influence just four years after the
withdrawal of US troops from Iraq.
Russian news agency Interfax quoted a
military-diplomatic source in Moscow as saying
the Baghdad coordination centre would be led
on a rotating basis by officers of the four
countries, starting with Iraq.
The source added a committee might be
created in Baghdad to plan military operations
and control armed forces units in the fight
against ISIL.
Iraqi officials on Friday had denied reports of a
coordination unit in Baghdad set up by Russian,
Syrian, and Iranian military commanders aimed
at working with Iranian-backed Shia militias in
Iraq.
The armed groups, some of which have fought
alongside troops loyal to Syrian President
Bashar al-Assad, are seen as a critical weapon
in Baghdad's battle against ISIL.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said in
New York on Friday that his country had not
received any Russian military advisers to help
its forces but called for the US-led coalition to
bomb more ISIL targets in Iraq.
Russian demand
Despite more than $20bn in US aid and
training, Iraq's army has nearly collapsed twice
in the last year in the face of advances by ISIL,
which controls large swaths of territory in the
north and west, as well as in Syria.
Western officials have said US Secretary of
State John Kerry wants to launch a new effort
at the UN General Assembly this week to try to
find a political solution to the Syrian conflict.
Diplomacy has taken on new urgency in light of
Russia's military build-up in support of Assad
and a refugee crisis that has spilled into
Europe.
Critics have urged US President Barack Obama
to be more decisive in the Middle East,
particularly towards the Syrian conflict and say
lack of a clear US policy has given ISIL
opportunities to expand
A Russian foreign ministry official told Interfax
on Friday that Moscow could "theoretically" join
the US-led coalition against ISIL if Damascus
were included in international efforts to combat
the armed group and any international military
operation in Syria had a UN mandate.

Iranian military commander Brigadier General
Hossein Hamedani has been killed by the
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on
the northern outskirts of the Syrian city of
Aleppo, Iran's army has said.
The rebels killed Hamedani overnight on
Thursday, Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards
Corps (IRGC) - the elite branch of the Iranian
army - said in a statement carried by Sepah
News on Friday.
The Brigadier General was providing military
advice to the Syrian army in the country, Iran's
Press TV reported.
IRGC said in its statement that Hamedani had
been playing an "important role... reinforcing
the front of Islamic resistance against the
terrorists".
Iran is a staunch ally of President Bashar al-
Assad, sending Revolutionary
Guard forces and military advisers to aid him
against rebels seeking his
overthrow.

Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe said in a statement written
exclusively for SaharaReporters that the former
Minister of Petroleum Resources, who was
arrested last week in London on corruption-
related offences, began the treatment for cancer
in the UK while she was in office.
Although he did not say what form of cancer she
was diagnosed with, he added, “The health crisis
has unfortunately exacerbated in recent times.”
For most of her tenure in Petroleum, Mrs. Alison-
Madueke was the subject of unflattering
investigations by the media, some of them
reporting her lavish champagne-and-
chartered jet lifestyle. She was also the subject
of investigations in the federal legislature, but
she continued to deny being involved in any
corrupt deals. She was reportedly trying to be
trying to buy a luxury mansion in one of Britain’s
most exclusive locations last week when she
was arrested.
SaharaReporters exclusively reported in May
that Mrs. Alison-Madueke somehow booked
herself on the same London-bound flight of then
President-elect Muhammadu Buhari. During
the First Class flight, she repeatedly tried
to strike up a conversation
with Buhari, who ignored her, according
to reliable sources in the cabin. She has not
returned to Nigeria since fleeing the country only
a few days before
President Buhari’s inauguration.
It was reported at about the same time that the
outgoing Petroleum Minister had said she was in
the United Kingdom to receive medical
treatment for cancer.
In his statement, Mr. Onwudiwe said that her
client underwent chemotherapy last week and is
scheduled to undergo surgery next
week. SaharaReporters could not independently
confirm those statements.
Alison-Madueke was arrested along with four
other people on Friday October 2nd by the UK’s
National Crime Agency (NCA) for bribery and
money laundering.
The agency confirmed her arrest. It further
noted that she paid her bail and was released.
On Monday this week at the Westminster
Magistrates Court, the NCA said that it had
also detained 27,000 pounds sterling from her.
UPDATE: Mr. Oscar Onwudiwe has revealed that
Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has breast cancer
stating that her husband will be traveling to the
UK soon.
