HungerBAD: Plenty of blames to go round.
But the bottom line is that, modernization is causing more harm to the family unit than any good.
The internet has belittled the family values so much , that a father can throw a scud missile online to his daughter, and in reply, the daughter can throw back a rocket launcher at her father.
The other day, a man in Enugu went online to disown his son for ganging up with his enemies to deprive him of his dream to become a king.
Even families only talk to each other online now.
Simi's mother was telling her on her IG page to jokingly give her the dress she was wearing, and today Mayorkun's mom was advising him not to bring a baby mama home on the internet.
Welcome to the modern family. real talk |

The good thing is, making money is the easiest thing, the problem is knowing the way..
If you're still scared of being the boss, then you're going to live the rest of your life in sadness and depression. Goldmines exist, the problem is, can you see it? can you tap into it. Sir why don't you create a post about how to see/recognise those goldmine cos truth is that I try hard to think of a business which will strive in where I live (Jos) but couldn't come up with nothing. it will be greatly appreciated if you will share that wisdom with us. thanks |

FitnessDoctor: Underachievement is a big turn on for depression. It makes you feel lesser than you actually are, but there is something else too. You don't have to wait for someone, or some company to build your world for you, to give you that killer job that will propel you to the places of your dreams. You can get there yourself, you can make it yourself, you can build your own world without working for anyone.
All you need to do is simply be positive, be positive throughout, even if you see people enjoying their lives, be positive, always remind yourself that those people once had a time when they struggled, when they cried and worked hard through the night, now today their hard work has paid off and the only reason why it paid off is because they were positive throughout and they never gave up.
Time may not be on your side, but if you yourself, your mind is on your side then you can scale through. There are lots of opportunities out there and all you need to do is expand your limits, don't limit yourself to anything because the Nigerian economy provides you an advantage whereby mechanical engineers can work as bankers. So never limit yourself but expand your limits.
Depression makes you give up on things and you stop solving problems and start complaining about them which will never make them go away. Once you start becoming positive, you will send a message to your brain that you are not a quitter, that you are ready to take those unseen opportunities by force (because they are really there) and in time you will get there. What separated University Student Mark Zuckerberg in 2003 from the Billionaire Entrepreneur Mark Zuckerberg in 2017 is simply positivity, time and hardwork.
If you need anything I will always be there to help you through it.
Stay Healthy, Stay Wise wow I never seen depression define so succinctly before. I suffer from it while I was in uni and that made me shut down, I stop trying, became anti social, make pealing up carry overs till I finally snap out of it during my spill year but then it was too late to change my grade. now that I'm through with NYSC with little to no hope I feel depression creeping in slowly. so thank you for this comment |

honjohnbright: It's a very painful experience..
Personally, there have been several times I had suicidal thoughts due to unemployment and the inability to foot my basic needs. I come online and see my juniors posting baby dedication pictures, wedding pictures, vacation pictures, pictures from their offices in multinational organisations, top banks Et Al... then I look at myself as jobless and as broke as I am. After series of unsuccessful interviews, age is no longer on my side for any good job. No concrete experience... what will become of me? Forever struggling? No! Why shouldn't I just end all these by jumping off from this 3Rd floor ?
Oh.. less I forget, no reasonable girl was willing to accept my advances... they all keep saying one thing "John you're a great guy and I know you'll make a fine husband ...but"
What other reasons do u have to live?
It takes grace to overcome depression really. I'm not doing so much better yet but definitely not as before, and when I look back, I bless God's name for saving me. I needed to read this, I'm also the stage you were before but hopeful. Thank you |

Heromaniaa: You suffer from linguistic interference, a common problem affecting those who acquired a mother tongue first, and subsequently learnt a second language, instead of acquiring both the other way round or simultaneously.
Firstly you need to study the phonetic chart of the English language. Study the pronunciation of pure vowels, diphthongs, triphthongs, consonants etc.
Additionally, you need to study stress and intonation. Do not forget to study blending, linking the r etc.
For instance, when r ends a word and is followed by a vowel, link the r.
I did it over and over again. Wrong
I did it overanover again. Right
And the winner is. Wrong
And the winneris. Right
My uncle. Wrong Myyuncle Right
Watch American films, listen to CNN, BBC etc. Imitate correct pronunciation.
Stay away from Jennifer's diary and The Johnson's.
What do I know, though? I'm just a regular guy who started learning English when he was eleven years old.
Though today, he teaches English to expatriates who come from non English speaking countries. this is good. thank you for sharing |
Romance › Re: How Do I Improve My Accents Please by BlueScholar(m): 5:41pm On Mar 08, 2018 |
KOPT55: Op, you have a valid concern and I will give you five steps that will help you.
The first tip is that you have to choose which accent you want to gain proficiency in. This could be American English accent, British accent, Received Pronunciation (RP), or even our Polished Nigerian accent.
If you choose our polished Nigerian accent, then the next step will be to expose yourself to hours upon hours of media and speech practice in the in that accent.
If there a an actor or newscaster that you like their enunciation, download one of their videos to your phone and first watch over and over again till you are fairly familiar with the content.
Next step will be to attempt to speak like that person speaks. If you have a laptop, or watching the video on Youtube, set the speed to 1.25, that is slightly slow playback speed. When the author says something, repeat after them. Own the lines, let the actor live inside your head momentarily. Ensure you pronounce and speak the way the actor is speaking. Genuflect, laugh, dance, smoke weed or drink alchohol. You need to be free and mentally unfiltered in order to allow your mirror neurons pick up and imprint the nuances of the accent inside your head. Another option will be to find somebody from your state who speaks well and use them as a model.
Do this as many times as you can. Expect SIGNIFICANT CHANGES in your enunciation after the first six weeks. Continue till the third month and you would have made significant progress.
VOWELS
A.E.I.O.U as you may know are called vowels. These sounds wherever they occur is the one that most often mispronounced by non-native speaker.
Do you know the difference between these homonyms?
1- beach vs bitch 2-sheet vs shit 3-lip vs leap 4-engine vs ingenuous?
Learn proper pronunciation! Mind vowels wherever they occur in your speech. Nigerian' especially get most English vowels wrong.
Next, please learn some grammar. You might think you don't need it but it is the foundation to good speech as well. Understanding what the rules are help one gain insights in ways they would not have in absence of.
Read a whole lot, have a dictionary that pronounces words, immerse yourself in language rich environments such as debates, plays, seminars etc.
For anyone who is wondering -- I went to a voice training school and now do voice-over work sometimes. I was once like OP. this is really insightful. thank you for sharing |
