This means that the Sultan of Sokoto is supposed to be the one to be announcing the New Moon Sightings in Nigeria, since Nigeria is not in the same time-zone with Saudi-Arabia..

Nigeria shouldn't be counting their lunar months the way it is counted in Saudi Arabia,, since the sighting of the New Moon can vary.

And one more thing, the Saudi Arabian Lunar Calendar is not a global Lunar Calendar (due to the same “time-zone” reasons stated above). The first days of each of the Lunar months might be varying across the globe,, and that also means that the number of days in each of the passing months would not always correspond for every locations across the globe.

The New-Moon at the very beginning of every lunar month is actually invisible, and it is very close to the sun.
In-fact, it sets immediately the sun sets.

The new moon can only become visible at least 18-24 hours past the new moon phase, and that is the only time when a tiny crescent can be seen either with the unaided eyes or with the help of a hand-held telescope.
That is, a duration of time long enough for the new moon to move far enough away from the sun in order to become visible in the twilight sky.

For experienced observers (coupled with good sky conditions), they may be able to see a crescent with a telescope even slightly earlier, sometimes as soon as 12 hours, after the new moon phase.

There are situations where there are differences in the days of sighting of New Moon across the different locations/countries on the globe.

For Instance, there are situations where the new moon could not be sighted in Saudi Arabia before sunset on the expected date for the sighting of the new moon, but after some few hours later (say 6 - to - 7 hours later) the crescent of the new moon could be seen in countries like America and Brazil on the evening of the same day before the sunset in America and Brazil.

According to Islamic tradition, this means that the new Islamic month would not begin in Saudi Arabia but it will begin in America and Brazil; since the sighting of the new moon in a specific location determines the start of the month for that region.
This means that, in such a situation, people in Saudi Arabia would still be in the previous month, even though the moon has already become visible in America and Brazil.

The only thing I can say here is that:
Scientists have calculated the exact positions of the moon for up to 100 years ahead, and this means that scientists have already known the exact phases of the moon as well as their positions (coordinates) in the sky - for every location across the globe - for up to 100 years into the future.

The holidays which are based on the lunar calendars which we usually reproduce here in Nigeria are usually based on the calculated predictions for the sightings by the Americans.
Thus, these predicted dates are usually the American Dates.

And again, being that the window-period for sighting the new moon is between 30-mins to 1-hour after sunset, a very cloudy western sky can prevent the sighting of the new moon on the expected date.
Scientists cannot predict cloud conditions over a long period of time, and thus, the reason why physical sightings are necessary for religious purposes.

The incident occurred when Dr. Okoye excused himself to pass through a hallway where the student was recording a TikTok video. Enraged by the interruption, she attacked him physically, an act that has since sparked widespread condemnation.

In a letter signed by ASUU-UNIZIK Chairman Kingsley Ubaoji and Secretary Joseph Onyejiaka, the union praised Dr. Okoye for his professionalism, stating:

“ASUU wishes to commend Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies for his exemplary display of maturity and civility in the face of the recent violent assault on him by a female student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chiamaka Precious, a student of the Department of History and International Studies.
