Politics / Nzeogwu, Orkar Are Martyrs, Says Fani-kayode by Bobinovic: 12:41pm On Jan 15, 2017
Olufemi Olu-Kayode:

"In the early hours of Jan 15 1966, 51 years ago today, the man in this picture, Major Kaduna Nzeogwu, led a coup of junior army officers of mainly of Igbo extraction. Many were killed that night. The coup failed but the issues he, and later in 1991 Major Gideon Orkar raised in his own coup, are still pertinent.
When will the yoke of internal colonialism and subjugation be finally broken in our country? I have always condemned Nzeogwu and, to a lesser degree Orkar, but given what is happening in Nigeria today I have to say that both of them were not just heroes but men that fought to ensure that we were freed from what is nothing less than injustice, wickedness and slavery.
They failed in their quest for power and they were both killed: one was shot at the stake by General Babangida's governmrnt and the other was shot on the war front by Federal troops whilst fighting for his beloved Biafra.
As far as I am concerned they are both martyrs and their deaths shall never be in vain.
Continue to rest in peace O Christian soldiers and martyrs of the faith. In the new Nigeria we shall name streets, buildings and airports after you"- FFK. .

Business / Nigeria Aims To Be World Largest Cocoa Producer by Bobinovic: 9:02am On Jan 14, 2017
- The federal government plans to improve cocoa production in Nigeria
- A committee was established and saddled with the responsibility of achieving this
- Nigeria is the seventh largest producer of coca in the world

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has announced plans to become the world largest producer and exporter of cocoa in a move some have touted as a way of stopping the country’s over-dependence on oil.

Vanguard reports that this was disclosed by Chief Audu Ogbeh who is the minister of of agriculture at the launch of the Cocoa Re-launch Committee led by Dr Olayiwola Oluwole in Abuja.

The minister said the ambition of the government to reach the top of the ladder and be the world largest producer was possible with the new committee.
He said: “In-house here we can say is a shame for us to be number seven on the list of cocoa producers in the world, but we must reverse it to be at the top and that is why we are here. This is the time to do it and no other time than to do it now.
Nigeria aims to be world largest cocoa producer
“Cocoa can be grown in many parts of the country. We are going to have cocoa relaunch campaign in March at Ondo State, and we want all cocoa farmers from cocoa producing states to be present.
“We cannot afford to remain seventh cocoa producing nation. We are going to take over from Cote D’Ivoire as the largest cocoa producer in the world.
“We can earn huge foreign exchange from cocoa because oil and gas has done damage to our economy and we have to go back to agriculture to rescue the economy.
“You have to come up with materials that could be used for cocoa production because cocoa can be grown in many parts of the country and presently there are 27 states that can grow cocoa. The cocoa farmers need to be enlightened on what they could do to improve on what they have been doing in the industry.”

Ogbeh expressed confidence in the ability of the committee and said they would be in charge and not the government.
Dr Oluwole who is the chairman promised the the committee will work tirelessly to achieve the desire.

Politics / Fayose Thanks Senate For Passing No Confidence Vote Against Buhari. by Bobinovic: 9:47am On Jan 13, 2017
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has said recent activities of the National Assembly show that it has passed a vote of no-confidence on President Muhammadu Buhari.
The governor, believed to be very controversial, also thanked the legislators for standing firm against the reported anti-people policies of the current government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent times.
"The persistent rejection of the President Buhari’s policies by a National Assembly that is controlled by his own party is an indirect way of passing vote of no confidence on the president and a call to action by the president and his men to take proper stock.
"Even the National Assembly members have now seen what he had seen since the beginning of the present APC-led federal government and are now standing up in defence of the ordinary Nigerians, who are suffering as a result of bad policies of the federal government," he said.
Speaking on Thursday, January 12 through a statement from his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was heart-warming that the National Assembly helped Nigerians to prevent the planned data tariff increase, with the National Communication Commission (NCC) suspending the new minimum pricing template for data services by mobile operators in deference to the Senate resolution.
"In the last few months, the National Assembly as an institution has come to the aid of the suffering masses of Nigeria by stopping the federal government bad policies.
“Some of such major interventions were the stoppage of the planned data tariff increase, resolution urging the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to suspend the ban on the importation of vehicles through land borders, and opposition of the planned closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for the repairs of its runway and the diversion of flights to the Kaduna airport.
“Particularly, even though elementary economists should know that ban on the importation of vehicles through land borders would cause loss of several thousands of jobs and further make vehicles unaffordable for ordinary Nigerians, the federal government adopted the policy without minding its adverse effects on Nigerians.
“Also, they knew that a complete shutdown of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and diversion of flights to the Kaduna airport will endanger the lives of both local and international air travellers that will have to travel by land from Kaduna to Abuja and further jeopardise the economy of the country.
“Instead of closing the Abuja airport completely, why not use the VIP section?
“It appears this government of President Buhari is just here to inflict hardships on Nigerians and I commend the National Assembly for standing firmly on the side of the masses by showing to the whole world that the President and his government no longer enjoy the confidence of the people, especially the suffering masses,” the governor said.
