PoliticsDemocracy In Nigeria Now Tool For Elite State Capture — Peter Obi by Bobloco(op): 1:18pm On Sep 18, 2025
…Says Democracy Dying as Leaders No Longer Serve the People

Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the last general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has warned that democracy in Nigeria is under grave threat, lamenting that it has been hijacked by the elite and reduced to a tool for state capture.

Obi, in a statement released in Onitsha by his media aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, said this while delivering a keynote address at the 2025 Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Annual Democracy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana, themed “What Makes Democracy Die?”

He described democracy as a system rooted in accountability, service to the people, security, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, but regretted that Nigeria’s democratic practice had strayed far from these ideals.

“Democracy in Nigeria is under threat because it no longer serves the people or holds leaders accountable,” Obi declared. “Regrettably, it has been reduced to a tool for elite state capture, granting access to public resources for private and family interests.”

According to him, democracy dies when leaders stop prioritising citizens’ needs and institutions cease to uphold accountability. “Nigeria is a typical example of this tragic reality,” he added.

The former presidential candidate stressed that reversing the decline of democracy in Nigeria would require the electorate to take governance and elections seriously by voting only for leaders with competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment to service.

PoliticsRivers: Tinubu Has No Power To Suspend Elected Governor, State Lawmakers — Atiku by Bobloco(op): 10:28am On Sep 18, 2025
ABUJA — Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has faulted President Bola Tinubu over the suspension and recent reinstatement of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly, describing the action as unconstitutional and illegal.

Atiku, in a statement posted Thursday on his official X platform, insisted that there was nothing to celebrate in the lifting of the suspension, as the action itself had no basis in law.

“Lifting the suspension of Governor Simi Fubara is nothing to cheer about. The suspension of the Rivers State Governor and the State House of Assembly was unconstitutional when it was done six months ago and is still illegal today,” Atiku wrote.

He further stressed that President Tinubu lacked the constitutional authority to suspend a democratically elected governor and state lawmakers, declaring the episode a dangerous sign of creeping dictatorship.

“President Tinubu had no power to suspend a democratically elected governor and state lawmakers. The Rivers shenanigans only signpost the dictatorship of the Tinubu administration,” the former Vice President added.

Atiku’s remarks come barely 24 hours after President Tinubu lifted the state of emergency in Rivers State and directed Governor Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the House of Assembly to resume office on Thursday, September 18.

Yes, she has a right to appeal and we appreciate the fact that she exercised it.

So she has to wait this one through, pending the determination of the court case she has instituted.

Did the judgment of the lower court ever state that she’s barred from returning to the Senate after the six-month suspension expires?

FOR the 181 days that constitute its legislative year, the Nigerian Senate has been needlessly embroiled in the Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan suspension saga, which has deprived the Kogi Central Senatorial District of representation. Therefore, the Senate and its leadership should end the impasse immediately.

Indeed, if the list of legislative activities in the Senate in the last six months is compiled, the suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan over sexual allegations and seating arrangement issues will vie for the lead.

Contrary to its mandate, the Senate is trivialising the weighty issues of development confronting Nigeria by concentrating on shutting out Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The standoff began over a disputed seating arrangement between the embattled senator and the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. Her protest prompted the Senate to walk her out of the chamber for disobeying the Senate President.

Akpoti-Uduaghan petitioned the Senate, alleging that Akpabio was humiliating her because she rejected the sexual overtures he made to her, insisting that her suspension was politically motivated.

Akpabio denied the allegations. The Senate thus placed her on a six-month suspension in March.

While Akpoti-Uduaghan has taken her case to the courts and other platforms to vacate the suspension to no avail, the Senate has spoken through its relevant officers, insisting that the matter has nothing to do with sexual allegations but everything to do with the embattled senator’s contravention of the rules of the lawmaking body.

The Red Chamber justified the six-month suspension despite the court ruling to the contrary. This unnecessary dissipating of energy and wasting of legislative time over a simple matter of seating arrangement is needless.

Binta Nyako, judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, in July, described the six-month suspension as “excessive and unconstitutional” and ordered the Senate to recall the embattled senator.

It is extremely harsh for the Senate to suspend a member for 180 days out of its 181 legislative period, thus exposing the constituents to non-representation during the period.

Akpoti-Uduaghan attempted to return to the Senate but was denied access. The upper chamber insisted that she must serve her full term.

After serving out her suspension, Akpoti-Uduaghan, in a letter dated August 28, notified the Clerk of the National Assembly of her intention to resume on September 4.

While the world was expecting the Senate to accept Akpoti-Uduaghan back, the upper chamber wrote to her through the Acting Clerk to the NASS, Yahaya Danzaria, notifying the embattled senator that her six-month suspension subsists until the Court of Appeal delivers judgement in the suit she instituted against the Senate.

Some lawyers condemned the Senate’s decision, saying the upper house is “petty,” “vindictive,” and “overreaching itself.”

The court case being referred to relates to the six-month suspension, as to its validity and constitutionality.

The Senate’s handling of the Akpoti-Uduaghan saga undermines the purpose and essence of democratic representation and lawmaking.

Denying Akpoti-Uduaghan entry into the Senate after serving out her suspension violates Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution, which gives her constituents the right of representation.

Previously, the Senate suspended some members, including Ovie Omo-Agege, Abdul Ningi and Ali Ndume.

The purpose of denying her resumption until the pending case is resolved when she has served out her six-month suspension in full is unclear, since the prayer before the Court of Appeal is about the legality of her suspension.

If Akpoti Uduaghan wins the case under reference, taxpayers will be paying for the arrogance of the Senate.

This legislative impunity disenfranchises a people, diminishes democracy, and gives the country a bad name.

Consequently, the Senate should allow Akpoti-Uduaghan to resume duty.

Better still, the Red Chamber, from which demonstrable maturity is expected, should find an amicable political solution to the impasse. The Senate must show leadership and discretion while eschewing pettiness.

PoliticsTinubunomics — When “progress” Means Pain For The People by Bobloco(op): 7:09am On Sep 18, 2025
You keep hearing it from govt spokespeople & headlines:
'Economy is stabilizing', 'Nigeria is on the path to growth'. 'Food prices crashing', Inflation coming down, they even claimed that it will soon get to single digit. But for most Nigerians, these words sound like insults.

What people feel isn’t growth it’s hunger.
What they see isn’t progress it’s job losses, skyrocketing food prices, purchasing power shrinking, grid collapse with its attendant power outages.
What they live isn’t recovery it’s a daily struggle to survive.

Since the so called reforms began fuel subsidy removal, naira devaluation, floating exchange rates, the cost of living has exploded: Petrol prices tripled Electricity tariffs unaffordable, Naira lost over 200% of its value

Minimum wage increased to N70k, but inflation eats away purchasing power fast.
The government calls this “necessary sacrifice” as if suffering is a patriotic duty meant for the masses.
They ask Nigerians to endure hardship for a promised tomorrow that never clearly arrives and often only benefits the elites.

Meanwhile, over 130 million Nigerians live in poverty.Millions skip meals, small businesses shut down. Parents can’t afford school fees.
Safety nets? A few bags of rice mostly inaccessible and politicized.
This isn’t progress. It’s economic violence in disguise, pushing the burden onto the poor, while the elites stay insulated.
GDP numbers, fiscal charts, IMF praise mean nothing if Nigerians can’t afford food, transport, rent, or healthcare.

Pain is not policy.

Nigerians deserve real progress not policies that deepen inequality and suffering.
PoliticsIs Borgu LGA Bigger Than The Entire South East As Governor Bago Claimed? by Bobloco(op): 2:15pm On Sep 16, 2025
A recent claim that Borgu Local Government Area in Niger State is bigger than the entire South-East geopolitical zone has stirred debate across the country.

The Claim
Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger made the claim while appearing on TVC’s Politics on Sunday.

According to him, “I have a local government in Niger State, Borgu which is bigger than the entire South East Nigeria”.

The vastness of Niger State is not in doubt as Nigeria’s largest state by landmass, stretching across diverse landscapes that touch the Middle Belt and the far North. Also, Borgu district is often described as one of the biggest in the country.

But a closer look at the facts shows that while Borgu with its headquarters in New Bussa, is renowned for its vast expanse land, the claim does not hold up against official figures.

Borgu is home to the Kainji National Park and other natural reserves that account for a large portion of its territory. Findings showed that Borgu covers about 10,992 square kilometres, though some sources put it at 11,267 square kilometres.

To put it in perspective, Borgu is bigger than Lagos State, which measures just about 3,577 square kilometres, and also larger than Anambra State, which is about 4,844 square kilometres.

The South-East region, one of Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, comprises Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states.

These five states are among the smallest in Nigeria by landmass, yet together they form a significant region.

Comparing in terms of land area, Abia State has 6,320 km², Anambra, 4,844 km²; Ebonyi 5,670 km²; Enugu, 7,161 km² and Imo State 5,530 km².

Taken together, the South-East covers approximately 29,525 km² and the figures become clearer when placed side by side with Borgu LGA covering about 11,000 km² and South-East Region, 29,500 km².

Even at a higher reported size, Borgu amounts to only about 37 percent of the South-East’s land area, meaning that the region is nearly three times bigger than the local government.

The governor’s “mix-up” is not without precedent. Borgu has historically been known as a kingdom stretching across present-day Nigeria and Benin Republic.

The broader “Borgu” was indeed massive, much larger than a single Nigerian region today. Over time, the term has been narrowed to denote the administrative LGA within Niger State, which is far smaller.

Another source of confusion is the frequent comparison between Borgu and individual states. Borgu is bigger than several states in Nigeria, and that fact is often cited to emphasize its size. However, being larger than one or two small states is very different from being bigger than an entire geopolitical zone comprising five states.

The Verdict
The evidence is clear: Borgu Local Government Area is not bigger than the South-East. At about 11,000 km², Borgu is a vast LGA, even exceeding some states in size. But compared to the combined 29,525 km² of the South-East, it falls short by a wide margin.

Conclusion
Governor Bago’s assertion that Borgu is larger than the entire South-East is false. While Niger State can boast of having some of the largest LGAs in Nigeria, including Borgu, the South-East region remains nearly three times its (Borgu) size. The claim, though perhaps intended to highlight Niger’s geographical spread, does not align with established data.

PoliticsAPC Slams INEC For Recognising Shady ADC As Political Party by Bobloco(op): 3:15am On Sep 13, 2025
“In truth, what INEC has done is to place a legal stamp on a house built on sand,” said the ruling party.

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos described the recognition of the African Democratic Congress by the Independent National Electoral Commission as a hollow victory.

The ruling party, in a statement by its Lagos chapter’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, however, welcomed the recognition ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that the legitimacy would allow the coalition to build structures anchored on transparency and principles, rather than manipulation, propaganda, and excuses.

“The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress congratulates the newly recognised leadership of the African Democratic Congress following the pronouncement by the Independent National Electoral Commission,” the statement said.

It added, “While we acknowledge this formal recognition, we cannot overlook the many pitfalls, questionable processes, and undeniable undemocratic, underhanded tactics that trailed its emergence. In truth, what INEC has done is to place a legal stamp on a house built on sand.”

While charging ADC “to be prepared to add value to Nigeria’s democracy by playing the role of a credible opposition that offers realistic policy alternatives, rather than indulging in bitter rhetoric that adds no value to governance or the lives of Nigerians”, the APC cautioned the coalition against premature campaigns, noting the 2027 elections are still far ahead.

“To jump the gun not only undermines fair competition but also exposes a party’s desperation and disregard for law and order,” it said.

The ruling party further accused the coalition of building excuses, issuing press statements, and thriving on empty noise, compared to the APC, which, according to the statement, builds roads, rails, power infrastructure, and implements economic reforms that create a future for Nigerians.

Stating that the ruling APC, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, remains fully committed to fair play, the law, and the democratic order, the statement advised the ADC to channel its energies into issue-based politics, constructive engagement, and adherence to the rules of the game, rather than indulging in political rascality and premature electioneering

China, India, Vietnam, Others lift people out of poverty – In Nigeria people fall into it – Obi

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has lamented Nigeria’s worsening poverty rate, contrasting it with the progress made by countries like China, India, and Vietnam in lifting millions of their citizens out of poverty through disciplined execution of policies.

Obi stated this in Lagos while delivering the keynote address at the maiden Lagos Business School (LBS) All MBA Students Conference, which also hosted visiting MBA students from Cambridge University’s Judge Business School. He later shared highlights of his remarks in a post on his X platform.

Speaking on the theme “Execution as a Competitive Edge,” Obi emphasized that while planning and strategizing are important, they are meaningless without effective execution.

“Execution that delivers results is driven by competent and responsible leadership with capacity, compassion, and character to drive disciplined and committed implementation of sound policies and strategies,” he said.

Obi cited China, India, and Vietnam as examples of nations where disciplined execution under responsible leadership translated into tangible progress during the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) era (2000–2015) and the ongoing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) period (2015–2030).

According to him, through consistent execution, China lifted over 430 million people out of poverty, India lifted 270 million, while Vietnam lifted 45 million, significantly improving their Human Development Index (HDI).

He, however, expressed regret that Nigeria and much of Sub-Saharan Africa have failed to achieve similar results despite signing on to the same global policies.

“While these countries and others are lifting people out of poverty, more people are falling into poverty in Nigeria, with over 130 million Nigerians presently classified as multidimensionally poor,” he lamented.

The former Anambra State governor stressed that the lack of competent leadership and inconsistent execution has left Nigeria struggling, even as other nations make progress. He further noted that the challenge extends beyond governance, pointing out that many successful companies also owe their sustainability to competent and responsible leadership at board and management levels.

Obi argued that for Nigeria to reverse its decline and deliver lasting positive impact, the nation requires leaders with capacity, compassion, character, and commitment to disciplined execution.

“That is what Nigeria needs today. A New Nigeria is Possible,” he declared.

Clean your house first before saying u want to clean another man's house

I believe that's not too hard to ask

Simple
You say protest in your region, like bad governance has borders. Last I checked, Tinubu isn’t a regional president, he’s the President of Nigeria. If his policies affect all Nigerians, then all Nigerians have the right to protest anywhere in the country. That’s how democracy works. Don’t try to rewrite the constitution. If you want protests restricted by region, go ahead and sponsor a bill. Until then, sit this one out.

Tinubu protested as an opposition leader, He protested in Abuja and Lagos. Have you conveniently forgotten #OccupyNigeria? He didn’t say, Let me stay in Lagos because Jonathan is from Bayelsa. So stop twisting history to fit your weak narrative.

You say clean your house first, but you’re backing a government that has turned the whole country into a dumpsite. Before pointing fingers, ask yourself, is your own region free from insecurity, banditry, and corruption?

Protest is a constitutional right, and it will be exercised wherever injustice exists not just where it makes you feel comfortable.
PoliticsWhy Are Tinubu Supporters Afraid Of Protests? by Bobloco(op): 10:42am On Sep 11, 2025
In the wake of global protests most recently the spirited demonstrations in Nepal, Nigeria’s ruling elite and their most vocal supporters seem increasingly nervous. The mere mention of protest now triggers fear-mongering, threats, and desperate attempts to silence dissent. One recent example is comedian-turned-political-influencer Seyi Law, a staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who warned Nigerians calling for protests to learn from Libya.

But what exactly should Nigerians learn? That asking for good governance is dangerous? That protesting economic hardship is now a crime? Or that authoritarian regimes survive only when the people are too afraid to speak?

This reaction is not just undemocratic, it is steeped in hypocrisy.
Tinubu himself built much of his political relevance by using protest and civil disobedience as tools of resistance. He was a key figure during the 2012 fuel subsidy protests under President Goodluck Jonathan. In Ojota, he funded, organized, and marched with the masses against the removal of subsidy a policy he now ruthlessly enforces, with far worse consequences and even less transparency.

If Tinubu were in opposition today, he would be leading protests against this very government against soaring inflation, a collapsing currency, skyrocketing fuel prices, mass unemployment, and growing insecurity. His political playbook was written in the language of resistance. Yet today, his allies treat protest as rebellion and activism as treason.

So why the sudden change?
The truth is simple: what Tinubu’s supporters fear is not chaos, they fear accountability.

Protests expose the those in power. They draw attention to failed policies, broken promises, and a growing disconnect between leaders and the people. Tinubu’s camp fears Nigerians are waking up to the truth that docility is not peace, and silence is not support.

Using Libya as a scare tactic to silence Nigerians is not only dishonest, it’s deeply insulting. Libya didn’t collapse because citizens protested, it collapsed because of an unyielding regime that refused reform, clung to power, and met dissent with brutality. Ironically, that’s the very behavior protests are meant to stop.

Nigerians have a proud tradition of protest, from fighting colonial rule, to resisting military dictators, to opposing unjust economic reforms. If democracy is to mean anything, it must include the right to speak out, to organize, and to protest.

So, again, why are Tinubu, the APC, and Agbadoos so afraid of protests? Because they know their government cannot survive real scrutiny. Because they know their house is built on the same shaky foundations they once stood outside protesting against. And because this time, they know the people are waking up and losing their fear.

The presidential spokesperson explained that “When the currency adjusts, the naira value of existing external debt rises—whether or not new loans are taken.”

The President Bola Tinubu-led government on Tuesday blamed Nigeria’s debt on naira depreciation, dismissing criticisms that it is piling up debt for the country through reckless borrowings.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mr Tinubu’s spokesperson, Sunday Dare, said Nigeria’s debt had remained the same since March.

“Nigeria’s total public debt stood at ₦149.39 trillion as of March 31, 2025, according to the Debt Management Office,” Mr Dare said.

“The jump from last year is not the result of reckless borrowing but largely the arithmetic of naira depreciation,” he added.

The presidential spokesperson explained that “When the currency adjusts, the naira value of existing external debt rises—whether or not new loans are taken.”

In comparison, Mr Dare argued that “Nigeria’s debt-to-GDP ratio remains a moderate 40–45 per cent, well below South Africa’s 70 per cent or Ghana’s 90 per cent plus. The real challenge lies in revenue mobilisation, not runaway borrowing. Encouragingly, revenues are improving, strengthening our capacity to service obligations.

For Mr Dare, “Borrowing is a legitimate tool for financing growth and reforms.”

Mr Dare’s statement drew responses from some netizens who disagreed with his stance on Nigeria’s debt under Mr Tinubu’s watch.

An X user, @Iam_arizona, said, “Which regime caused naira depreciation. How much has the current regime borrowed? Defending Tinubu, you must sound stupid.”

Another user, @Orewae, said, “Your government is unpopular and in the minority. Your principal’s mode of governance is extremely irritating to the majority of Nigerians. Who depreciated the naira?”

“Naira has appreciated in the larger part of this year; the debt should reduce. Govt claims it has made so much money this year, the debt should either stagnate or reduce,” @udoetuknyanah said.

Also, @luvfemi2015 said, “A govt with wicked and heartless policies. It’s only the sycophants that are praising this government. 99.9 per cent of Nigerians detest this wicked government.”

PoliticsKaduna Violence: El-rufai, ADC Leaders Shun Police Invitation by Bobloco(op): 6:53am On Sep 09, 2025
Former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday, submitted a petition against the state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Rabiu, over what he described as “unprofessional conduct, abuse of office, and serial violations”.

The petition was a fresh twist in the face-off between the leadership of the African Democratic Congress in Kaduna State and the state’s police command.

The Kaduna police had sealed the Kaduna ADC secretariat last Thursday and subsequently invited El-Rufai and other ADC leaders for questioning for alleged “conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and disturbance of public peace in the state”.

Previously, members of the Kaduna ADC had suffered attacks by political thugs, with the ADC accusing the police of backing the thugs.

Rather than honour the police invitation, El-Rufai, according to a statement on Monday by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, dragged the police commissioner before the Police Service Commissioner.

El-Rufai, in the petition, alleged that the Commissioner of Police and some officers of the Kaduna Police Command had engaged in acts “unbecoming of their calling” since assuming office on December 30, 2024.

The former governor said he was compelled to alert the PSC after an earlier petition to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, failed to curb what he called the “egregiously unlawful” conduct of the officers.

“I am writing out of concern that the Nigeria Police, warts and all, is the only frontline law enforcement institution we have,” El-Rufai stated in a statement signed by his media adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, in Kaduna on Monday.

“The duty of all citizens is not only to support it at every level but also to ensure that the commission is provided opportunities to deliver on its regulatory powers to enforce discipline and promote sound and ethical conduct by all police officers at all times,” he added.

El-Rufai, known for his fiery disposition, accused some police officers of “serving interests other than those conferred by law,” insisting that such behaviour tarnished the image of the force and eroded public confidence in its leadership.

“This laudable goal can only be attained if the commission’s attention is continuously drawn to any egregious conduct of some bad eggs that serve interests other than those conferred by law in Section 4 of the Police Act, 2020,” he said.

“Such conduct thereby negatively affects the image of the Police and undermines public confidence in its leadership.”

The former governor did not provide details of the alleged misconduct in the petition made available to the media, but sources close to him said it was linked to a series of police actions in the state in recent months that allegedly targeted some of his political associates.

The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to react officially to the petition as calls and messages sent to the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, were unanswered.

The PUNCH had reported that the Kaduna Police Command had, on Thursday, summoned El-Rufai and six top members of the ADC over alleged conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and disturbance of public peace in the state.

In a letter dated September 4, 2025, signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Uzairu Abdullahi, had said the ADC State Chairman was directed to produce the seven individuals before the State Criminal Investigation Department on September 8, 2025, to clarify allegations contained in a complaint filed by unidentified parties.

The individuals listed in the letter include: Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; Bashir Sa’idu; Jafaru Sani; Ubaidullah Mohammed (a.k.a. “30”); Nasiru Maikano; Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (a.k.a. “Mikiya”)

The letter had stated: “This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025.”

Earlier on the same day, security operatives from the Kaduna State Police Command sealed off the ADC’s state secretariat at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, just hours before the anticipated visit from the ADC’s North-West leadership.

The visit had been scheduled as a commiseration mission following a violent incident in which party members were attacked by political thugs the previous week.

The PUNCH reports that at a press briefing held at his residence in Kaduna on September 4(Thursday), El-Rufai vehemently condemned the police’s actions as unconstitutional overreach.

He revealed that the meeting was intended for the ADC North-West leadership to express solidarity with members wounded in the violent attack last week.

However, he said, the police commissioner intervened, claiming—without providing documentation—that a court order barred the meeting.

El-Rufai stated, “He knows what he’s writing violates the Constitution. We have not seen the court order. It has not been properly served on us. Even if there is a court order, there is a legal process to serve an affected person, and it has not been served on us.”

Despite these grievances, he noted, ADC leaders chose to defer to the police to avoid confrontation: “As responsible leaders, we decided that even though we have not seen the order, we believe the commissioner of police. Because we don’t believe the commissioner of police could be lying.”

El-Rufai also signalled that the matter would not end with the shutdown, hinting at a protracted legal fight: “We want to see that order and, of course, we will challenge whatever grounds to the Supreme Court. This is not the end of it. Other things will follow after this,” he declared.

This sudden crackdown comes amid an already fraught political climate. Last week’s disrupted coalition meeting, where suspected thugs stormed the venue, injuring several attendees and causing extensive property damage, all in the presence of police officers who were accused of inaction.

Prior to this, the ADC in Kaduna State distanced the party from El-Rufai’s role in inaugurating the transition committee during the disputed event, arguing that the gathering lacked consultation and legitimacy. ADC officials described the act as fraudulent and destabilising.

Meanwhile, the State Government had maintained a firm stance against El-Rufai’s perceived provocations. In a statement dated September 1, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr. Shehu Shuaibu, accused the ex-governor of scheming to “destabilize our hard-won peace,” especially in light of the ADC’s setbacks in recent by-elections.

The statement had warned: “Anyone who dares to threaten it, be it Nasir El-Rufai or any of his accomplices, will be held accountable.”

PoliticsEl-rufai Master Of Ambivalence, Paid Bandits As Governor- Presidency by Bobloco(op): 6:19am On Sep 09, 2025
President Bola Tinubu’s administration has taken a swipe at former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai over comments faulting the administration’s non-kinetic approach to addressing insecurity in the country.

Mr El-Rufai, in a recent Channels TV interview, faulted what he described as “kiss-the-bandits policy” under Mr Tinubu, accusing his administration of paying bandits and kidnappers in the name of a non-kinetic approach.

The former governor also claimed insecurity has worsened in Kaduna under Governor Uba Sani Uba’s watch, accusing his administration of empowering bandits.

Posting a snippet of the interview on X on Monday, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga described Mr El-Rufai as a confused “master of ambivalence”, accusing him of leading the way in paying bandits and opposing the approach he once supported.

“Malam Nasir EL-Rufai is the master of ambivalence. Once upon a time, he supported and led the way in paying bandits to calm them. Today, in the name of politics, he opposes it,” Mr Onanuga wrote.

Mr El-Rufai’s administration as Kaduna governor was marked with security challenges, especially killings in Southern Kaduna and kidnapping for ransom.

Despite being accused of escalating the crises with his punitive policies, Mr El-Rufai, in the interview, boasted he dealt with the situation without paying bandits or kidnappers.

Meanwhile, Mr Sani dismissed the allegations as political mischief, saying his administration had never paid a dime to bandits.

PoliticsSowore Vows Not To Delete Anti-tinubu Tweet by Bobloco(op): 5:54pm On Sep 07, 2025
Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the 2023 elections, Omoyele Sowore, has vowed not to delete a tweet critical of President Bola Tinubu, despite a reported request from the Department of State Services to X, demanding its removal.

Sowore disclosed this in a post on his X account on Sunday morning, revealing that the social media platform had formally contacted him about the DSS request.

Sowore, a human rights activist, journalist, and publisher of Sahara Reporters, is known for his outspoken criticism of successive Nigerian governments and advocacy for good governance.

He contested the 2019 and 2023 presidential elections under the African Action Congress and has been at the forefront of several pro-democracy campaigns.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that the DSS had written to X Corp., demanding the immediate takedown of Sowore’s post, claiming it disparaged Tinubu and posed a threat to national security.

Vowing not to play to the DSS’ gallery, he wrote, “This morning, X (formerly Twitter) officially contacted me about the despicable threat letter they received from the lawless DSS over my Tweet on Tinubu. One option I will NOT be taking is deleting that Tweet. Thank you, @X,” Sowore wrote.

He also shared the message sent to him by X, which confirmed that the platform had received a legal request from the Nigerian secret police concerning his post.

The message read, “Hello @YeleSowore. In the interest of transparency, we are writing to inform you that X has received a request from the Department of State Services regarding your X account, @YeleSowore, that claims the following content violates the law(s) of Nigeria. @YeleSowore, we have not taken any action on the reported content at this time as a result of this request.

“As X strongly believes in defending and respecting the voice of our users, it is our policy to notify our users if we receive a legal request from an authorised entity (such as law enforcement or a government agency) to remove content from their account. We provide notice whether or not the user lives in the country where the request originated. This page provides more information: https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/defending-and-respecting-our-users-voice

“We understand that receiving this type of notice can be an unsettling experience. While X is not able to provide legal advice, we want you to have an opportunity to evaluate the request and, if you wish, take appropriate action to protect your interests.

“This may include seeking legal counsel and challenging the request in court, contacting relevant civil society organisations, voluntarily deleting the content (if applicable), or finding some other resolution. For more information on legal requests X receives from governments worldwide, please refer to this article on our Help Centre and our biannual Transparency Report: https://help.x.com/en/rules-and-policies/x-legal-faqs https://transparency.x.com.

PUNCH Online reports that Sowore has frequently accused the DSS and other government agencies of clamping down on dissent and free speech, insisting that his criticism of the Tinubu administration falls under constitutionally guaranteed rights.

The DSS, Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency, has in the past been accused by rights groups of targeting dissenting voices and clamping down on free expression. Sowore himself was arrested by the DSS in 2019 over his “RevolutionNow” protest movement and was detained for several months despite court orders granting him bail.

X (formerly Twitter) has a stated policy of notifying users when it receives legal demands from governments requesting the takedown of content. The platform has also faced pressure in Nigeria before — most notably during the 2021 Twitter ban by the Federal Government, which accused the company of undermining national security after it deleted a tweet by then-President Muhammadu Buhari.

Sowore’s latest confrontation with the DSS highlights the ongoing tension between government authorities and citizens’ digital rights, particularly regarding criticism of public officials online.

His insistence on keeping the tweet online could spark renewed public debate on freedom of speech, government surveillance, and the limits of dissent in Nigeria’s democracy

PoliticsNigeria Sliding Into Dictatorship, Say PDP Govs by Bobloco(op): 5:05am On Sep 07, 2025
Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have felicitated with Muslims on the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Maulud, even as they raised concerns that the country was inching closer to outright dictatorship.

In a goodwill message issued on Friday, the PDP Governors’ Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, congratulated Muslims across the country and urged them to emulate the virtues of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

The forum’s Director General, Dr Emmanuel Agbo, who signed the statement, said the Prophet’s message of peace, tolerance, and service to humanity remained relevant to the country’s search for stability.

“Today, we honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), whose life and teachings continue to illuminate the path of compassion, justice, and unity for millions around the world.

“His message of peace, tolerance, and service to humanity resonates deeply across all faiths and cultures. As we reflect on his legacy, may we be inspired to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote understanding, and work together toward a more harmonious society,” the governors said.

The PDP governors, however, lamented what they described as increasing disconnection between Nigerians and the basic services they are entitled to under the current administration.

“Today, our country is at a crossroad as Nigerians get disconnected from the constituted services they deserve. As we inch daily to full-blown dictatorship with its attendant abuse of power and citizens live in abject penury in the face of plenty, leadership is once again called to urgently address insecurity, our compromised judicial system, failed economic policies resulting in intolerable hunger, poverty and unemployment,” the statement read in part.

They urged Muslims to let the Prophet’s teachings of compassion, justice, and unity guide their lives, stressing that the values of humility, accountability, and truth must remain central to rebuilding citizens’ faith in the country.

“Let this day be a reminder of the values we should uphold and share — public service with accountability, kindness without expectation, humility, and the pursuit of truth to rebuild the faith of our citizens in our country. May your celebrations be filled with joy, prayer, and meaningful connection with loved ones,” the governors added.

TravelNigerians Lead Asylum Applications In Ireland by Bobloco(op): 6:05pm On Sep 06, 2025
Nigerians lead asylum applications in Ireland
Ireland grants work permits to Nigerians, other foreign workers. Nigeria has become the top source of asylum seekers in Ireland, according to new figures released by the country’s Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.

The department’s August report revealed that Ireland received 1,164 new asylum applications in July 2025, down from 1,735 in July 2024 — a sharp decline year-on-year. Between January and July 2025, applications totaled 7,207, representing a 42 percent drop compared to 12,236 during the same period last year.

Nigeria topped the list with 1,083 applications, followed by Pakistan (945), Somalia (933), Afghanistan (767), and Georgia (462).

The report also highlighted progress in reducing Ireland’s backlog of asylum claims. At the end of September 2024, there were 23,863 pending cases at the International Protection Office (IPO). By July 2025, that number had dropped to 18,323.

Authorities noted an increase in resolved cases, with 1,755 applications concluded in July 2025 compared to 1,294 in July 2024. However, the department stressed that the figures, extracted on August 8, remain operational and subject to updates as cases are processed.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom continues to grapple with record-high asylum numbers, reporting nearly 89,000 applications in the year to June 2025, with a backlog exceeding 224,000 cases awaiting decisions or appeals.

PoliticsBattle To Unseat Tinubu A National Consensus, Not Northern Conspiracy — Tambuwal by Bobloco(op): 12:26pm On Sep 06, 2025
•Backs the President on State PoliceLoud on why

•It may be difficult to defeat him in 2027

ABUJA: Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s push for the establishment of state police, stressing that it is a necessary step to address the worsening insecurity in the country.

Speaking on Friday night during Channels Television’s Politics Today, monitored in Abuja, Tambuwal painted a grim picture of the security situation in Sokoto State, particularly in his senatorial district.

On the debate around state police, the lawmaker dismissed concerns about possible misuse, insisting that Nigeria’s peculiar challenges demand such an institution.

“I am no longer a governor but I support state police. Yes, we have federal police, but part of the problem is that when you post someone from Sokoto to Enugu, he doesn’t understand the terrain or the language. In any case, we need more boots on the ground in the police and the army,” he said.

Tambuwal emphasised that establishing state police must go hand-in-hand with adequate recruitment, improved welfare and the provision of modern tools for security personnel.

“We need to recruit more hands. Their welfare and remuneration are also key. When a personnel gets killed in the field, what happens to their families? This welfare should go beyond the personnel alone,” he added.

Tambuwal’s position aligns with Tinubu’s renewed push for constitutional reforms to enable states establish their own police formations, amid widespread concerns over rising insecurity across the country.

Payment to bandits

He also said he was not aware of information that bandits were being paid by the federal government or anyone.

He sought the assistance of the president to end banditry in Sokoto State.

While he said he is 100 percent committed to the legitimate activities of the anti-Tinubu coalition to prevent his reelection, Tambuwal said he remained a member of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and would hope that the PDP and the African Democratic Congress ADC work together as a coalition to defeat Tinubu.

He said the battle to send Tinubu packing in 2027 is a national consensus, not a Northern conspiracy.

Tambuwal said it will be difficult to defeat Tinubu if Abubakar Atiku, Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, Rotimi Amaechi and Rabiu Kwankwaso decide to have an individual go at the presidency instead of working together to field one person.

On whether he ever paid bandits as governor or if he knows whether any official is paying the bandits, Tambuwal answered in the negative.

“I am not aware. I do not know. I cannot claim to know that bandits are being paid by anyone”, he said in answer to a specific question about claims by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai alleging that the Tinubu administration was paying bandits.

He lamented that bandits have taken over his senatorial district. “They have almost taken over every local government in Sokoto South and Sokoto East. The situation is getting worse. As I speak with you, Shagari Local Government has been evacuated — the villagers have fled and the terrorists are in charge. The same thing is happening in Tureta, Bodinga and other areas,” he lamented.

Tambuwal, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, noted that the attackers operate mainly as bandits, engaging in kidnapping and killings.

He stressed the need for a coordinated and simultaneous military offensive, pointing out that most of the criminal gangs retreat from Zamfara into Sokoto when pressured by security operatives.

CultureTension In Osun As Royal Crown, Beads Disappear After Monarch’s US Jail Term by Bobloco(op): 12:17pm On Sep 06, 2025
Tension is mounting in Ipetumodu, the headquarters of Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State, following the mysterious disappearance of sacred regalia belonging to the Apetu stool, barely two weeks after its occupant, Oba Joseph Oloyede, was sentenced to prison in the United States for COVID-19 fraud.

The missing artefacts include the revered Aare crown and a collection of ancient royal beads, symbols that embody centuries of Ipetumodu’s royal heritage.

Sources within the community allege that aides and close associates of the embattled monarch were involved in the evacuation of the regalia from his private residence, which has served as the temporary palace since the demolition of the original royal court.

A respected chieftain from one of the ruling houses expressed deep concern about the implications for the town’s future.

“The crown is gone, and those behind its disappearance may not understand the consequences. Without the crown and beads, the enthronement of a new monarch could be plunged into crisis.

“More importantly, they risk provoking the wrath of the deities that guard this community,” he warned, urging those responsible to return the items before “it becomes too late.”

The development comes on the heels of Oba Oloyede’s conviction in the United States. The monarch, who holds dual Nigerian and American citizenship, was arrested in May 2025 alongside Pastor Edward Oluwasanmi.

DAILY POST recalls that earlier this month, U.S. District Judge Christopher A. Boyko sentenced Oloyede to 56 months in prison for his role in a $4.2 million COVID-19 relief fraud scheme.

Community elders fear that the twin crises, the monarch’s imprisonment abroad and the disappearance of sacred regalia at home, could leave Ipetumodu in a spiritual and cultural dilemma, particularly in succession matters.

PoliticsCVR: Osun PDP Demands Transparency, Queries INEC Figures by Bobloco(op): 3:33am On Sep 05, 2025
The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has raised questions over figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration, CVR.

The PDP in a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo and signed by the party’s Director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, expressed concern about a significant disparity between online pre-registrations and completed in-person registrations in Osun State.

The statement said INEC’s report revealed that more than 470,000 residents in Osun commenced their registration online within two weeks, but fewer than 600 were said to have completed the mandatory in-person process.

The Osun PDP described the figures as “a worrisome gap that raises serious questions about the transparency, credibility, and efficiency of the registration process”.

The party alleged that over 25,000 registrations had been physically completed at INEC centres in the state, yet the national office’s report accounted for only about 500.

“It is inconceivable and unacceptable that Osun, a state where daily averages of 1,500 to 2,000 voters complete their in-person registration, would be falsely presented with only 500 completed registrations,” the statement said.

The PDP said such contradictions “directly insult the intelligence of the electorate and dangerously undermine confidence in the commission’s preparedness for the 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general election”.

The party demanded that INEC correct the “manipulated data”, publish the authentic figure of more than 25,000 completed registrations, and explain the gulf between field records and the national report.

“Anything short of this is nothing but a calculated attempt to disenfranchise Osun citizens and lay a foundation for electoral fraud, which our party and the people will never tolerate,” the statement added.

The PDP also called on INEC to provide daily reports of completed registrations, including voter card transfers, to political party representatives and civil society organisations, and to open the process to independent scrutiny.

It further demanded that INEC disclose records of voter card transfers within or into Osun State, warning that without such transparency, the process would remain vulnerable to manipulation and abuse.

“Our democracy demands openness, and Osun PDP will continue to insist on transparency in the voter registration process as the foundation of credible elections,” the party stated

PoliticsTinubu: working Vacation Is Something Else– Shehu Sani Disagrees With Presidency by Bobloco(op): 3:25am On Sep 05, 2025
Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has faulted the Presidency’s description of President Bola Tinubu’s trip to Europe as a “working vacation”.

Reacting in a post on X, Sani wrote: “I understand the word ‘working’. I understand the word ‘vacation’. The sentence ‘working vacation’ is something else.”

Earlier, DAILY POST reported that the Presidency announced that Tinubu had departed Abuja on Thursday, September 4, to begin his 2025 annual leave in Europe.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the vacation will last 10 working days.

The statement added that Tinubu will spend the period between France and the United Kingdom before returning to the Nigeria.

PoliticsJonathan To Keyamo, Odinkalu: Keep Off My Political Journey by Bobloco(op): 9:46am On Sep 02, 2025
The unofficial race for the 2027 presidential election continued yesterday, with former President Goodluck Jonathan berating Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, SAN; and Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a law teacher, over their opposition to his presidential bid, and warned them to keep off his political journey.

Messrs Keyamo and Odinkalu had warned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, not to give its presidential ticket to Jonathan to actualise his rumoured plan to return to the presidency in 2027.

In separate media posts, Keyamo and Odinkalu contended that Jonathan’s attempt to contest the 2027 presidential election will face a legal challenge as he had been sworn in twice.

However, Jonathan, responding through his brother, Robert Azibaola, warned the two legal practitioners to steer clear of his bid to return to the Presidency, arguing that it is none of their business to dabble into it.

According to him, Jonathan is qualified to run.

This came on a day the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, said former President Jonathan is being deceived to run and cautioned that handing former Anambra State governor, Mr Peter Obi, a presidential ticket will spell doom for the PDP.

Boasting about President Bola Tinubu’s re-election chances, Wike, who said he is ready to place a bet, also dismissed former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s claim that President Tinubu will come a distant third in the 2027 presidential election, describing the assertion as faulty and mathematically inaccurate.

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said Nigerians, not the All Progressives Congress, APC, or the opposition PDP will determine the outcome of the 2027 presidential election.

Jonathan doesn’t need Keyamo, Odinkalu’s counsel — Azibaola

Azibaola wrote on his verified Facebook page yesterday: “Dear Festus Keyamo, SAN, Chidi Odinkalu (Prof.) I greet both of you.

“For the record, three of us are lawyers. We all were pro-demcracy activists in the 90s, and I was a better activist than both of you combined.

“Rule No. I: Do not offer legal advice where none is solicited. GEJ (PDP) has numerous, more cerebral, more experienced SANs at his disposal that give him sound, unblemished, professional legal advice only. “Please note: GEJ is 100% constitutionally and legally qualified to contest, if he chooses to. If he chooses not to yield to the overwhelming calls to run, it would not be because he is not qualified.

“Your screwed, unsolicited legal view is not of any concern in his bucket list, and it will never be. Don’t waste your precious time dwelling on this.

“Or should I schedule a meeting with me so you can get properly educated on the subsisting court judgments on this, one of which your party, APC, was a party?

“I beg una, make we no dey put too much water inside belle for another person disco dance, make long line no form for latrine door). This is not a confirmation that GEJ is running, though,” Azibaola wrote.

Although Jonathan has not yet officially declared to run for the 2027 election, opponents in other political parties have already begun to attack his candidacy, arguing that he should not return so as not to jeopardise the chances of the South to maintain the presidency.

It is still unclear, though, if the former president, who is being wooed by some PDP leaders will run or not, given what appears as early attempts by some elements to shoot his ambition down before he even makes a formal declaration.

Jonathan’s being misled — Wike

Speaking in a televised media chat, yesterday, Wike accused some PDP leaders of arrogance and a lack of integrity, stressing that the party had failed to learn from its past mistakes.

He warned that for the 2027 presidential election, Jonathan is being misled by some political hawks into contesting.

His words: “In the road up to 2023, I told my colleagues that PDP was shooting itself in the foot. You cannot have the presidential candidate and, at the same time, the national chairman of the party. They stole the presidential ticket and also took the national chairmanship. I said it would purge them, and it did. I have no regrets.”

He further cautioned Jonathan not to allow himself to be used again by politicians who deceived him in the past.

“I know Jonathan very well. He has international respect and should maintain that. These same people weighing Jonathan down are the ones who played him in 2015.

They are only trying to cause confusion in the party,” Wike added. He also criticised Nigeria’s political culture, noting that candidates who lose elections rarely accept defeat without raising allegations against the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. “Tell me which election INEC conducted that people didn’t complain about. Is there anybody who has lost an election in this country and has come out to concede, apart from Jonathan? Mention one,” he staTES

The minister urged politicians to emulate former President Jonathan who conceded defeat in 2015, stressing that Nigerians must stop making excuses after elections.

“We have this spirit of always complaining. I don’t like excuses. What I cannot achieve, I will say it is not possible. But people must also learn to concede for the sake of national interest,” Wike added.

‘Drafting Obi, recipe for disaster’

Wike dismissed moves by some stakeholders to draft Obi into the 2027 race, describing it as a recipe for disaster.

“Bring Obi to where? You want to kill the party, even more? Obi was the one abusing the PDP, calling it rotten.

Now, is the same party good enough for him to pursue ambition? Ambition can even make people go to Satan’s house. If you want to destroy this party, dare it. Let Obi come, there is nowhere he will go,” Wike declared.

El-Rufai wrong about Tinubu’s chances

Wike also faulted el-Rufai’s claim that President Tinubu will come third in the 2027 presidential election, saying el-Rufai “failed in his mathematics” by predicting Tinubu’s third-place finish without identifying who will come first and second.

‘’He goofed. He should have completed it since he claimed Tinubu will come third. How did he arrive at who would be third without arriving at who would be first and second?”

The minister said he is confident about Tinubu’s chances during the election, adding “I will put a bet,Tinubu will win this election squarely.”

On suggestions of a possible runoff, Wike said “which runoff? With who? It is not possible.”

I’m not running
The FCT minister also rejected insinuations that he harbours presidential ambitions, ahead of 2027, saying his position had always been clear.

“I have integrity, I have character. The person who appointed me is there. We are saying he should run. Then I will turn around to say I want to run? What kind of thing is that? How will my children even look at me? I will not run for president,” he stressed.

Nigerians, not APC or PDP, will decide 2027 — Atiku

Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said Nigerians would determine the outcome of the 2027 presidential election, not the APC or PDP

Atiku’s Media Adviser, Mazi Paul Ibe, stated this in an exclusive interview with Vanguard in Abuja yesterday, insisting that the African Democratic Congress, ADC, coalition being built ahead of 2027 is people-driven and already attracting broad support from political stakeholders and civil society groups.

“The APC and PDP may have dominated politics for a while, but what is crystal clear, and more important, is the fact that Nigerians themselves are the real force, and they will determine what happens in 2027.

“The APC may think it will continue to dominate the political space called Nigeria, but no, the people are the ones who will always remain, as long as Nigeria exists. The most important element is the Nigerian people,” Ibe said.

He explained that there was growing enthusiasm among Nigerians to take control of their destinies, noting that various groups had begun aligning with the coalition.

Ibe pointed to recent political realignments as evidence of the coalition’s momentum, disclosing a major development occurred in Lagos where thousands of PDP stakeholders formally defected to the ADC.

“We saw what happened in Lagos recently, where 5,000 critical stakeholders and PDP leaders transferred their services and assets to the ADC. Many more are on their way. A lot is happening, yes,” he noted.

With defections gathering pace and civic groups rallying behind the coalition, Ibe maintained that the political dynamics ahead of 2027 pointed to a contest where the will of Nigerians, not the dominance of APC or PDP, would shape the outcome.

PoliticsRivers: Atiku’s Comments A Call To Anarchy – Felix Morka by Bobloco(op): 8:24am On Sep 02, 2025
The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Felix Morka has taken a swipe at former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar over his comments on the recent Rivers State local government polls.

Morka described the comments as reckless and a call to anarchy.

He stated this on Monday while responding to questions in an interview on Arise Television.

The APC spokesman dismissed Atiku’s claim that the election represented a travesty of democracy, insisting that his words carried no weight.

“It doesn’t hold any water because it’s simply a call to anarchy by a former vice president who is sulking, whose party showed nothing in that election, was a no show, didn’t perform, didn’t call out their members because they don’t have any members in that state,” Morka said.

According to him, Atiku’s words should not be taken seriously by the people of Rivers State.
