Obi didn't conduct LGA election until 2 months to the end of his second term. Go and verify. What is the difference? A man that did not conduct election for 7 years 10 months is as worst as someone that never conducted at all. Tinubu conducted LGA elections at least twice in his two terms

Oh! it's now in seven years

How many times did Tinubu conduct local government elections in his eight-year tenure?

It's so obvious that Peter Obi has raised the bar and become the standard.

They all look forward to hearing from him.

He speaks; they become angry and agitated. Venting their Tinubu calamitous economic policies induced frustration and anger.

He doesn't speak; they still find some reason to say, "Why is he not speaking?" Even going as far as giving themselves deadline. You will hear statements like, It's now over 24 hours, 48 hours, or 72 hours; Peter Obi is yet to speak.

Peter Obi is an enigma.

Meaning, he only did so when he knew his own regime was already on the way out.

He wanted to have total power, but against the constitution, and then did not want his self installed successor to enjoy such power, so he made sure he supervised the elections of those who would be at the local governments when he had left office.
The good thing is that Peter Obi conducted local government elections in Anambra State. But the issue is that why did he conduct local government elections just a few months to the end of this tenure?

Throwback, you aren't saying anything about the fact that Tinubu also conducted local government elections once in his eight-year tenure.

The last time I checked, the longest tenure a democratically elected local government chairmen or councillor can spend is 3 years, so why did Tinubu conduct local government elections once?

PoliticsAlleged Forged Voter Card: APC, Okpebholo No Longer In Edo Guber Race – PDP by Bobloco(op):
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate in the September 21, 2024, Edo State Governorship election, Monday Okpebholo, have forfeited their right to contest the polls.

The PDP said the development is as a result of an alleged revelation that the APC candidate is not a registered voter.

It said that the voting status of the APC candidate came to light after checks on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal.

This is contained in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Debo Ologunagba, on Friday in Abuja.

“The alarming discovery that the APC candidate allegedly presented a fake voter card in his Form EC9 submitted to INEC is a self-inflicted blow, which clearly and irredeemably signals the end of the road for the APC and its candidate in the 2024 Edo State Governorship election.

“It is indeed scandalous that the APC sponsored a candidate with alleged questionable documents as a governorship candidate for Edo State who is noted for being very credible and highly respectable citizens.

“Moreover, it is now apparent as to why the APC submitted to INEC a blurred and unreadable voter card purporting to be that of its candidate and had remained silent since the news broke out that the said voter card is allegedly forged,” Ologunagba said.

PoliticsSupreme Court’s Judgment Means No FAAC Allocations To CTC Chairmen – Ozekhome by Bobloco(op): 10:20am On Jul 12, 2024
..... in Rivers, Abia, others

Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has said Thursday’s Supreme Court judgment on Local Government Council Autonomy means that the Federation Account Allocation Committee will not release funds to Rivers, Abia, Anambra, Katsina, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers and other states with Caretaker Committee LGA chairmen will be withheld.

Ozekhome disclosed this on Friday in an interview with Channels Television and monitored by DAILY POST.

The judgement of the government is clear. If you want to receive funds from the federation account, then conduct an election. If what you have in place is a caretaker committee as local government chairman, be sure that it will not have money from the federation account. If you want money from the federation account, such councils must be democratically elected,” he stated.

This comes following the recent Supreme Court verdict endorsing full local government autonomy and ordering that funds from the Federation Account should be paid directly to LG accounts.

The country’s highest court, with Thursday’s verdict, stopped governors from receiving and tampering with local government allocations.

Also, the Supreme Court barred governors from henceforth dissolving democratically elected officials for local governments and that doing so would amount to a breach of the 1999 Constitution.

DAILY POST reports that over 18 states in Nigeria currently have CTCs including Rivers, Benue, Anambra, Imo, Kwara, Abia, Enugu, Plateau, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Yobe, Ondo, Osun, Akwa-Ibom and Cross River.

PoliticsKogi: I Will Reclaim My Stolen Mandate – SDP Guber Candidate, Ajaka Vows by Bobloco(op): 8:25am On Jul 12, 2024
The candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the November 11,2023, governorship election in Kogi State, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka said he will reclaim at the Supreme Court what he termed stolen mandate.

Ajaka disclosed this in a statement on Thursday shortly after the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja upheld the victory of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo as the duly elected Governor of Kogi State.

The statement reads in part: ” In light of today’s verdict, we want to state that we acknowledge and respect the decision of the Court of Appeal. However, we strongly believe that some irregularities and manipulations influenced the outcome of this petition.

“We have tirelessly fought for the rights and interests of the people of Kogi State, and we will not let this temporary setback deter us from our mission. We understand that this decision may have brought about feelings of disappointment and frustration among our supporters, but we want to assure you that this setback will not stop our determination to use all legal means to reclaim our stolen mandate.

“I call on all our supporters to remain calm and peaceful in the face of this disappointment and injustice. We understand the frustration and anger that may arise from this situation, but resorting to violence or any form of unlawful behaviour is not the solution. We must continue to uphold the principles of democracy and fight for justice through legal means.

“I want to extend my gratitude and appreciation to our formidable legal team, who have worked diligently and tirelessly throughout this legal battle. Their brilliance, dedication, and unwavering commitment to justice have been evident at every step of the way, not minding the disappointing outcome so far.

“I commend them for their efforts and assure you that they will continue to fight with every ounce of their expertise and legal prowess until justice is served to the people of Kogi State.

“We understand that this verdict may have caused some to feel disheartened and even depressed. However, we urge you not to lose hope. Remember that our journey to reclaiming our stolen mandate is not limited to this decision. This is just another step in a series of legal battles that we are prepared to take to the very end.

“Now more than ever, we must remain relentless in our pursuit of justice. We cannot afford to be deterred by setbacks or disheartened by temporary defeats. Our cause is just, and our determination will not waver. We must stand united and continue to support our legal team as they navigate these complex legal waters on our behalf.

“I want to assure you, our political followers, that victory is within our grasp. We firmly believe that the truth will prevail, and justice will be served. We have full faith in the Nigerian judicial system, and we are confident that the apex court will rectify the injustices that have been inflicted upon us once again.

“In the coming weeks, we will be working tirelessly to prepare our case for the apex court. We will leave no stone unturned, and no avenue unexplored in our quest for justice. We understand the weight of responsibility that has been placed upon our shoulders, and we are prepared to carry it with unwavering dedication and resilience.”

The SDP governorship candidate called on all his political followers and citizens of Kogi State to remain steadfast and resolute.

“Let us use this setback as fuel to propel us forward, to ignite a fire within us that will burn even brighter. Our stolen mandate will be reclaimed, and the will of the people will prevail.

“Together, we shall overcome this temporary setback and emerge victorious. Let us stand tall, united, and unwavering in our pursuit of justice. The journey may be arduous, but the destination will be worth it,” he said.

From the attached screenshot, Lagos State conducted local government elections in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2017.

Tinubu was governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, which invariably means that he conducted local government elections just once in 2004.

So where is the lie there?

Abi, if out of 8 years as a governor and you conducted LG election only on your last year which was even forced by court orders, automatically Peter Obi would have rejected the supremes Court decision about LG autonomy.
helinus, the Supreme Court judgement bothers mainly on local government financial autonomy, not total local government autonomy, as you falsely claimed.

And for the records, Peter Obi was the first governor after 1999 to conduct local government elections in Anambra State. The two governors before him, Odera and Ngige, never conducted local government elections.

Give Peter Obi some credits and Stop spreading lies and falsehoods.

Peter Obi as president would have ensured total local government autonomy.

PoliticsNigerians Buying Yam In Pieces As Prices Soar by Bobloco(op): 6:17am On Jul 12, 2024
Many Nigerians in Abuja and environs who cannot afford a whole tuber of yam have resorted to buying it in pieces as prices of foodstuff prices soar.

A visit to some markets in the FCT by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday showed that yam sellers, desirous to make sales now cut yams in bits to sell to their customers.

NAN reports that yam is one of the staple foods in Nigeria but due to the increase in foodstuff prices, lovers of yam would rather buy it in pieces to quench their appetite.

Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko, a popular yam dealer in the Dei-Dei market, said most time, they cut yams when they are getting spoilt as a result of low patronage.

”Some consumers will come to request for yam of N1,000 or even N500, and we are left with no option than to sell the already cut pieces to them; that makes them satisfied,” Tanko said.

Mrs Blessing Ekong, a yam seller in the Dei-Dei market, said that the current situation in the country had made it difficult for an average family to afford a big-sized tuber of yam

”Many people no longer buy yams because of the cost.

“We now cut the yams in pieces and rearrange broken ones to sell at the rate of N500 to N1,000, depending on the size.

“It also helps us increase sales because not everyone can afford a medium-sized tuber of yams for N3,000 or N5,000. Some food vendors also patronise cut yams’’, she said.

Ekong said due to the current economic situation in the country, some people are afraid of buying a big tuber only to discover that almost part of the yam was bad.

“It will be very painful to experience such a waste. That is one of the reasons many now buy pieces of yam,” she said.

Mrs Blessing Hassan, a yam consumer, said with the present situation in the country, buying yams in pieces was the best option.

“I prefer to buy it in pieces because it is cheaper and in most cases, I can see clearly if the yam is spoilt or not.

“Sometimes, I will buy a good-looking yam only to go home to discover that it is spoilt,’’ she added.

Another yam seller, Mrs Peter Kalu, said many people no longer buy yam because of the high cost.

She also said that cutting yams into pieces helps to increase their sales because many people prefer it.

“We cut them to pieces depending on the size and resell them in a way people can afford,’’ she said.
