The Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Governor Siminialayi Fubara, Friday, resumed its legislative plenary.

The Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo led Assembly commenced plenary after stating that they have appealed the Court of Appeal judgement that voided the State High Court decision that gave them power to serve as Speaker and members of the state legislature.

The Court of Appeal on Thursday in suit CA/PH/198/2024 filled by Amaewhule and others declared the High Court order that barred them from parading as speaker and lawmakers null and void.

But, Jumbo, Friday, said they were already at the Supreme Court challenging the judgement of the Appeal Court delivered which held that that Justice Charles Wali of the State high lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the matter of the state legislature.

However, when the assembly resumed Friday, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon Adolphus Orubienimigha and the Leader of the House, Hon Sokari Goodboy, sponsored two bills.

The bills included the Rivers State Emergency Management Agency Bill, 2024 that was presented by Goodboy, while the second, the Rivers State Transport Company Reform Bill, 2024, was sponsored by Orubienimigha.

The house meanwhile, considered the two bills, opened debate, and moved them through first reading.

If the PDP candidate is smart then he needs to appeal the judgement if he believes the judgement is wrong. Otherwise, in future, after the election, if PDP is declared winner, any opposition party can site this judgement as ground to seek disqualification of the PDP candidate.

But the truth is that you cannot put something on nothing and expect it to stand.
That judgement is standing on nothing. That judgement is of no consequence.

There have been judgements by the higher court affirming the fact that the courts have no business with how a party conducts its primary or nominates candidates for an election

Breaking: Labour wins UK general election, as Rishi Sunak congratulates Keir Starmer

Labour has won a landslide victory in the UK general election, meaning Keir Starmer will be the new prime minister.

Meanwhile, as the final figures come in, Labour is expected to win 410 seats, with the Conservatives on 144.

Also, Rishi Sunak has accepted defeat, and said he called Starmer to congratulate him.

On the election results, Sunak said it was a “sobering verdict” adding “I am sorry”.

After winning his seat in Holborn and St Pancras, Starmer said “the change begins right here…it is time for us to deliver”.

In a country where some states like Abia have no idea how much is being owed to pensioners, and some others like Benue & Rivers are owing over N100B, I think it's worth celebrating to appreciate states like Lagos & Kaduna that have maintained up-to-date pension payments. I'm certain if you're a civil servant, you'd prefer to work in the states where you're certain your welfare will be of high priority to politicians during and after your service.

So you want to tell me that, as a worker, you should praise your employer for paying you your deserved wages, and also described it as an achievement on the part of your employer.
