PoliticsObi, Atiku Commend ‘Tireless Efforts’ Of Workers, Ask FG To Tackle Unemployment by Bobloco(op): 8:05pm On May 01, 2025
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, have celebrated Nigerian workers on the occasion of the Workers Day.

Obi, in his message on May 1, said workers have shown their resilience and commitment to national growth despite the harsh economic realities.

“The struggles and harsh realities facing our dear workers in our nation, presently contending with severe economic and political challenges, are obvious. Despite these very challenging times, our Nigerian workers have continued to show resilience and commitment to the nation’s growth,” he stated.

“On this International Workers’ Day, we celebrate the tireless efforts of our Nigerian workers, whose unwavering commitment and immense contributions drive our nation’s growth and development.

“A day like this offers us the opportunity to appreciate every Nigerian worker at different levels of government, across different agencies, private industries and business sectors – your legitimate labours form the energy that propels our nation.”

The former Anambra governor also decried the level of unemployment in the country putting the fiure at 35 per cent.

He called on the Federal Government to ensure that youths are duly employed to reduce criminal activities and other social vices.

Notwithstanding the recent reconfiguration of our economic indices, the reality is that today, Nigeria has an unemployment and under-employment rate of over 35% and a youth unemployment and under-employment rate of over 45%, which is one of the highest globally, fuelling all sorts of criminality and social vices.

Aggressive investment in the productive population remains the best and fastest route to bridging this shortage of well-trained workers and moving our nation from consumption to production. This, as I have consistently maintained, we can achieve by investing in education, health and fighting poverty through job creation and support for small businesses.

As a nation, we must create an environment that fosters growth, provides opportunities, and ensures fair compensation. We must recognise the dignity of labour and promote a culture of respect and appreciation for all workers,” Obi stated.

For Atiku, the “Nigerian worker stands as the indomitable engine propelling our nation towards its long-sought prosperity.”

He said, despite the hardship, Nigerian workers have continued to bear the burdens of economic aspirations with silent heroism.

Yet, it is disheartening that those entrusted with the reins of policy and governance have failed to reciprocate this steadfast commitment with tangible acts of support and justice.

“The labour force is the soul of our nation. It is both the face and the force of the people. It is thus imperative that governments and employers alike erect unyielding safeguards to protect the dignity, benefits, and entitlements that justly belong to the worker.

“I hereby urge policy makers to draw inspiration from the theme of this year’s celebration, and to embrace the labour force not as a mere tool but as an equal partner in the journey to national greatness,” he said.

PoliticsExplosion Rocks Army Barracks In Borno by Bobloco(op): 4:28pm On May 01, 2025
Heavy sounds from Giwa Barrack in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, sent residents into confusion in the early hours of Thursday.

The deafening blast and red flares in the sky forced residents of polo, fori, GRA, Unimaid and others out on the streets in fear of possible Boko Haram attack.

However, Borno State Police command, in a statement said it was a fire outbreak in the ammunition facility of the Barrack and advised the public to remain calm

“On 30 April 2025 at 10:30 PM, a fire broke out in the ammunition facility at Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri. The fire incident affected some munitions to detonate, resulting in loud bangs.

“A combined security and fire-service response team arrived promptly on scene and successfully extinguished the fire. Preliminary investigations indicated that the unusually high ambient temperatures in Maiduguri at this time of year may have contributed to the outbreak.

“The command calls on all members of the public to remain calm and should not panic as the situation is now fully under control” said the spokesman, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso

Also, the Directorate of Borno Fire Service, said in a statement that a combined team of first responders from the Nigerian Army Fire Service, Federal Fire Service and Borno State Fire Service have duly reported at the scene and successfully put out the fire.

“However, there may be secondary explosions which may disturb the neighbourhood around the barracks. Members of the public should not panic on hearing loud bangs.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the intense heat in Madiguri around this time of the year may have triggered or conflagrate the fire. However, the combined team of firefighters are on top of the situation” the statement read.

PoliticsWorkers’ Day: Economic Hardship, A Global Phenomenon, Tinubu Tells Labour by Bobloco(op): 4:21pm On May 01, 2025
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Thursday called on workers to remain patient with his administration regarding their different demands in the face of economic hardship facing the country, saying the situation is a global phenomenon.

This is just as the leaderships of both the Nigeria Labour Congress and and the Trade Union Congress asked the President for the upward review of retirement age for all categories of civil servants.

The President stated this at Eagle Square, Abuja, venue of 2025 May Day with the theme: “Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship”.

Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, said he was aware that Nigerians, especially workers faced rising costs of living, hunger, insecurity and unemployment.

He also said he was aware that some workers were losing their means of livelihoods and the pressure to provide necessities for their families, promising to address all the aforementioned challenges soon.

“Economic hardship, which today is a global phenomenon, cuts across all regions, testing the resolve of world leaders, but has not broken our spirit. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such a utopic climate for the common good.

“I am well aware of the peculiarities of this economic hardship for Nigerians which is occasioned by the struggles and challenges you workers and indeed many Nigerians face ranging from rising costs of living, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, loss of livelihoods and the pressure to provide necessities for your families, amongst others.

“These challenges are real, critical and demand definite solutions, which I as your President is poised to address. It is in this regard that my administration is not only committed but intentional in formulating and implementing policies that promote job creation, decent jobs, poverty alleviation, economic growth and stability, as well as supporting the most vulnerable among us.”

On his part, the President of NLC, Joe Ajaero, who spoke on behalf of the two Labour unions, noted that raising retirement age of all categories of workers to 65 years would address the perceived injustice among workers.

While presenting some of the demands of the NLC, Ajaero said, “It is imperative to extend the revised retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of service currently enjoyed by teachers, health professionals, and judges to all public servants.

PoliticsRe: Okowa's Defection To APC: What Happens to Ned Nwoko and his Anioma State Dream? by Bobloco: 4:10pm On May 01, 2025
DomPerignon:
I am all in total support of this Anioma state and if it is down to Ned and his Asaba clan getting it and from there lumped to the SE , let it be so.

My reasons for this are simply because the demographics of Asaba has been totally altered with core Ibos moving in.

Since they began migrating and settling into Asaba , they began claiming the entire Delta state as ibo land.

Let Asaba get their ibo state so it can be the delineating boundary that they dare not cross.

After all, when Adekunle's 3rd Marine Commandos recaptured Delta South and central through Warri, they did not chase Biafran soldiers beyond the boundary with present day Delta north.

Even long before Ned came out with his Anioma state project I had written here calling for same due to how Ibos are settling in Asaba and I warned that they will soon declare entire Delta as ibo territory and they will offset the fragile zoning pattern in state.

If you think ibo migration is harmless , go and read up on how most of present day Abia which was once Effik ended up being ibo land.

Also see how ibo migrants in Lagos are dragging ownership of that state with Yorubas.

I am all in for Anioma even if it's just Asaba .
The most detrimental act one can commit against oneself is to tell a lie and then choose to believe it. Such self-deception can have profound psychological consequences.

The only way Tinubu can win in Lagos or anywhere is through blatant rigging, using state apparatus, and deploying both state machinery and thugs to snatch, grab, and run away with it.

In a free and fair election devoid of voter inducement, coercion, intimidation, and the like, Tinubu would struggle to secure even 50,000 votes in the whole of Lagos, because he has done absolutely nothing to deserve being voted for.

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Govt Falsely Claims Nigeria Is World’s 4th Fastest-growing Economy - SR by Bobloco:
Tinubu and integrity have nothing in common. They are like two parallel lines and, as the saying goes, parallel lines never meet.

To work for such a morally decrepit individual, one must abandon integrity, embrace lies, spread falsehoods, and engage in propaganda.

It is astonishing that, after nearly two years in office with no significant accomplishments to showcase, they resorted to doctoring the IMF report to falsely claim that Nigeria is the fourth fastest-growing economy apparently in an attempt to mislead the public. While discerning Nigerians have rejected this narrative, it is only embraced by his unquestioning, zombie-like supporters.

It is deeply troubling when a sitting Nigerian president resorts to blatant misinformation, deception, and propaganda.
