President Goodluck Jonathan, governors, ministers and top government officials on Sunday failed to demonstrate a public commitment to the fight against corruption. At the interdenominational church service held at the Ecumenical Centre, Abuja, to commemorate the 2012 National Democracy Day, the guest preacher and immediate past Prelate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Peter Akinola, in his sermon, challenged the congregation to join him in the fight against corruption in the country by committing perpetrators to God. But the congregation, including the President, who was accompanied by his wife, Patience, the Governor of Bayelsa, Seriake Dickson and Kaduna, Patrick Yakowa, Deputy Governor of Nasarawa state, Dameshi Luka, as well as some ministers failed to respond to prayers to take corrupt officials “to the court of God.” Apparently, expecting to hear a thunderous YES from the congregation, the Reverend, who instead got a deafening silence, exclaimed: “There you go! Oh, corruption! So, you are not ready to fight it, because you are all beneficiaries of it. Whether you steal in a small or big way, stealing is stealing." Apparently disappointed with the response he got, the clergyman shot angrily at Mr. Jonathan and his delegation, “See, it is very clear. You are not interested in fighting corruption. If you do, let us take our case to the court of God, if you dare. Who is deceiving who? You are only deceiving yourselves, not God. And you who is stealing government funds, subjecting the poor to untold hardship; you who steal oil subsidy money, making Nigerians pay for fuel through their noses; you who steal funds meant for improving our power supply, deliberately making Nigerians live a life in utter darkness, will you repent today? I doubt it!" Before throwing the challenge at the president and other officials at the Service, Mr. Akinola had delivered a homily on the destructive impact of corruption on Nigeria. “This hydra headed monster (of corruption) has literarily taken over the soul and eaten up the fabric of Nigeria,” Reverend Akinola said. “Officials steal our public funds openly by the pen, while others steal by the power of the gun. Successive governments have declared half-hearted war against corruption to no avail. We know only too well that the fight against corruption is largely selective directed at those opposing the government, with no strong political connection. “Many of those fighting it (corruption) in police and Judiciary have no clean hands. When any National Assembly Committee or any government agency is inviting anybody for questioning it is because those being investigated have not yet given the agency inviting it their due share of the booty. “Worse still, those who have cleverly made away with public funds and are living above their legitimate incomes are those who are being honoured by traditional rulers, who make them chiefs and high chiefs. Recently, our universities have joined the queue by inviting those people and giving them some baseless honorary doctorate degrees.Sadly, therefore, corruption will continue in full gear, because Nigerians and the government only pay lip service to its eradication. But, I believed as a Christian, as a preacher, as one who reads the Bible, there a way out." He continued, “Corruption in a narrow sense is another name for stealing. Stealing is a sin God commands us all not to commit. As you know every soul that sins and fails to repent shall die in his sin and end up in hell. So, let us resolve here today to take to the court of God, beginning from this place, all those thieves, who have failed to repent. Will you join me? “You who steal the money for road construction, leaving our roads in a state of disrepair, causing several accidents and untimely deaths of thousands of our people, their blood is crying to the creator. You who steal the money earmarked for healthcare delivery, thereby running down and turning our hospitals into mortuaries; you who have destroyed our educational system, because the money meant for schools never got to them; you who make laws to inflate costs included in the budget, are you listening to me? “All of you, whoever you are, greedy, arrogant politicians and officials who are in government only for what you can steal from it and virtually nothing to contribute to national development and has turned Nigeria into a wretch, repent today, and make reparations and God will have mercy on you. Don’t say Amen, only if you repent. “It is true that ICPC, EFCC, the Police, judiciary may not catch you stealing. But believe me, the all-seeing, all-knowing, all-wise and the almighty God sees you very clearly. But, He is patiently waiting for you to return to the path of sanity and righteousness.” In his speech, President Jonathan did not react to the issues raised by the preacher, who also proffered a proposal for a new Nigeria. The president, who identified terrorism as a major challenge the country is currently facing, said with the prayers of Nigerians and commitment of government, “we will overcome”. “We are working very hard to reposition our security architecture to cope with the modern challenge of terror. We will overcome,” he said. “Even though some people are predicting the disintegration of Nigeria, let me assure Nigerians that Nigeria will never disintegrate. Our forefathers worked hard to bring us together as a nation. Because of the country’s potentials and resources, no one individual or group can create problems that can disintegrate this country.” www.bolabankole..com |
REALITY101: Not far from the truth.@ Fresh Dude and you supported what she thought? Can't you enlighten her with your personal experience with girls, or you are the guy she's making reference to? |
My dearest son, I think of you all the time. I'm sorry that I came to your house and scared your children. I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the school reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you or maybe see You again. I'm sorry that I was such a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up. You see........when you were very little, you got into an accident and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with one eye.So I gave you mine. I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with one of my eyes. With all my love to you, Your Mother. After reading the letter the young man fell down on his kneels crying uncontrollably, all the bitterness, deep hatred and embarrassment disappeared to regret that he couldn't share with anyone as he cried his soul all days of his life wishing he could undo every wrong he had done but it was too!!! Late. .May it not be too late for you to realise to be grateful, full of thanks to God and be proud to tell others how you value and love them now that you know and there is still time. |
A young man just narrated his sad story to me, read through. 'My mom only had one eye. I hated her... She was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students & teachers to support the family. There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me. I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me? I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school one of my classmates said, 'EEEE, your mom only has one eye!' I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear. I confronted her that day and said, 'If you're only going to make me a laughing stock, why don't you just die?' My mom did not respond... I didn't even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings. I wanted her out of that house, and have nothing to do with her. So I studied real hard and got a chance to go abroad to study. Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. I had kids of my own. I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts, Then one day, my mother came to visit me. She hadn't seen me in years and she had not even met her grandchildren. When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled At her for coming over uninvited. I screamed at her, 'How dare you come to my house and scare my children!' GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!' And to this, my mother quietly answered, 'Oh, I'm so sorry. I might have come to the wrong address,' and she disappeared out of sight..One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came 2my house. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went 2our old shack just out of curiosity. My neighbors said that my mother had died. I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to read.... To be Continue.......... |
Alleinad: thanks OP for this post, it has given me a new perspective to things.....i think i need to sober down and bring out my true self... There's more to life than wealth, besides i dont want my eulogy to just be that she was wealthy... Great post!. What you've learnt through people here I'll advise that you hold it firmly, what you see attimes can be deceiving many guys do all sort of things to get a girls attention, emerging a guy tht collect loan inother to entiles a girls family after there marriage he sold everything including the window blind. Peace of advise for all ladies in the house. Pencil down what you look out for in a man, if a man possess 70per cent is ok for you. Remember love is not how you start but how well you built it to the end, and also don't forget that love is work if you believe in it you will achieve it. God bless us all. |
pattybf: why should any girl/woman want to suffer all in name of marriage just to be tagged 'real'. From my two years experience in marriage, i can tell u dat love & good charater does not keep a relationship but money does.Really Are you still ?? Can you share your experience with us and let other young folks learn? |
tgirl1986: It's a free world, life is filled with choices. If you make one that comes back to bite u in the a.ss, don't complain just bear it. My cousin has full blown AIDS, his wife just found out she has the virus and the marriage is over..I am trying to feel pity for her but i just can't. He was NEVER a husband material has always been a player, treated her like crap but she married him anyways cos of his money..Today she's 31 struggling alone with two kids cos my cousin is too sick to work..who will she complain to?? She made the choice.. What a story for those who care to listen. |
@2Sexy exactly what I said in my last post, no one hear when girls did there own....if you marry her now and you try to revenge she will begin to shout around that she stood by you when you are still struggling but now you have abandoned her. The whole idea of this piece is to help our girls see beyond what they are seeing, to help them think inward in choosing the right partner other than making money your top priorities. But i still give it to some girls, 10% of them are good but others......... |
buJu-234:. Lol.... |
@Akom I understand that no one want her sister to suffer but I disagree in the direction you are taking it to, why don't you advice her on the qualities to look out for in a guy by so doing I believe you've help her so much instead of creating an impression that she should look out for rich guy. Don't mislead your sister bro. @Onegai I am not one of those that quickly jump into conclusion that a guy is bad or a girl is bad behind every incident there is always a story, is when a guy take an action that the world will shout but do you know what the lady might have done to warrant such treatment, let come back to our celebrities here what happen between 9ice and Toni paine either cook or real story if you are to judge you will condemn 9ice action but do you know what Toni Payne has done, guys have a way of keeping secret most especially if is someone that they love, but ladies will let the cat out of the bag thereby painting guys as a devil. |
@ALL I am delighted to read from everyone I saw maturity in some comments while some commentators as usual has demonstrated there high level of un-intellectuality. Let us assume that the total number of nigerians engaging in this act are 5 million and this venture is fetching them there daily living if this unrighteous act is stop today where do you want this elements to venture into, it is easy to advice people to go into enterpreneurship but you quickly ask yourself that where is the platform in this country, our Goverment empowers the youth (graduate) by giving us Okada, keke napep, 25 thousand naira to start a bussiness. The question is how long will this go in solving the economic crisis in this country, which job has anyones father created that you want over 5million yahoo boy to venture into if they decide to secede.... As much as i will not agree with people going into crime what if the Goverment has not created a platform for crime imagine if our law enforcement are in place to enforce law, but how will they do tht when they know tht if they die they die invane and never for the country....before we judge we have to go back to the root caused of the problem or else little can efcc or metropolitan police can do to stop crime.... And it baffles me the way Nigerians come on air to claim to be holy as if they don't have a crocach in there cupboard. I once listen to the lagos state commisional of police that told a gathering that has Pat utomi in attendance that everyone sitted here are suspect. So what are we saying. |
@Dailynews you really treated the topic beyond my imagination, have you discovered that if you ask them at their 18,19 to 24 what they look out for in a man they tell you Tall, dark, working class and handsome.....at 25,26 to 30 ask them what they want they will tell you someone that is God fearing and must be ready for marriage, girls the whole idea of this topic is not to demoralise you but to open your eye wide to help you see beyond what you are seeing.....pls look out for the potentials in every man than his pocket as wealth maybe temporary. I bet those who falls victim of material relationship are here on NL and i pray one will share her experience soon inother to advice others. |
The race to marry a BIG BOY is what's now in vogue. Most ladies nowadays can't function if there is no cash involved. The urge for material things has changed the STORY OF LOVE. Never make money your only priority when choosing your spouse. There's more to marriage than money alone. A man with good heart is better than a rich man with the heart of beast. Most women say they want security in life so they won't date the poor. If he's not rich today doesn't mean he will be poor for life. The happiness and security of your life is your responsibility. Those who choose never to endure at all may have to suffer for long. Getting married to the rich doesn't guarantee happiness in life. HAPPINESS IS PRICELESS. Perhaps those who say they will rather cry inside a Mercedes than laughing on a bicycle have never experienced pain in their life. Some relationship mistakes can cause life regret. WOMEN OF VIRTUE don't date for cash. They work hard and pray to GOD to make them rich and give them a good partner in life. IF IT DOESN'T COUNT, DON'T LOOSE THE COUNT. Many young women have blindly turned themselves to TEST DRIVE VEHICLE for the love of material things. Don't spoil your tomorrow today. What qualifies you as a great woman is not in designer shoes and bags. It's in your good heart, good characters and real personality. When a real man finds a wife in you he will never let you go. It's funny how material women blame men for breaking their heart. A man who wins your love with cash may not stay for long. Real men don't settle down with fake women. THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN FIND A FAKE WOMAN IS TEMPORARILY IN THE HEART OF A FOOLISH MAN,BUT WHEN THE FOOLISH BECOMES WISE,THE WISE PERSON IS IN SERIOUS PROBLEMS. Looking for a real man when you are fake is like looking for a LIVE FISH IN THE FOREST. There is nothing in life that is not a risk. Same goes to men too. Dey want to date a rich man's daughter all because of properties. Happy Sunday Pals. |
7Pins so far enough and officially this tread is closed. |
bennyraz: SMH.. A gayfúckèr in d making.this is the problem i have with nairalanders lack of sense of reasoning and idleness, do I mention gay here? Simple question, if you don't have a business with my post then let others do. Any guy from 30 and above that want to be hook up with a girl should pls contact me am not charging you for anything pls just chatting and hook you up. |
This is the reason why I always believe that some people are not ripe enough to be in a relation, but first we need to define something here...what type of relationship are we talking about? Is it a serious relationship or you are just catching fun with the folks, if you have both define and agreed that it will leads to nowhere at the initial stage then i think it not a good to pick eachothers call, but if he or she is someone you want to settle down with then there is nothing bad in picking eachothers call except if you have a crocoach in your cupdoard, I notice some people talking of privacy see the truth is that in this kind of situation privacy does not set in.. She's your partner for know reason must you hide anything away from each other....any relationship that lacks this principle is either don't trust eachother or someone is cheating. I can't date a girl that won't or I have access to her phone. |
Are you still
