Another perspective, and questions for niger deltans. For the records, am a full-fledged niger deltan from warri north lga. As its commonplace currently, we make haste to blame the federal government for the under development in our region. To be honest, thats true, but not entirely. To a small extent, the federal govt has been fair to our plight. Consider this : how much has been the contribution of NDDC and d ministry of niger delta affairs (MNDA)? What can we show for the 13% derivation given to our region? Which senatorial constituency projects can u point to in ur area?In delta state, we have DESOPADEC, how much have they affected the lives of the common man in terms of infrastructural devt? The govt put these measures in place so that the region cud benefit, but the greedy,,so - called leaders of the niger delta have squandered the common wealth of the region, and then provide arms for the misguided youths to keep disturbing the govt so the can keep enriching their pockets. Charity they say , begins at home. Lets hold our leaders to their throats, and make sure they carry out the projects allocated to the region, bfor we go all out to fight the govt.

The people of sodom and gomorrah were warned, and they disbelieved. The people in the time of Noah were warned, and they said Noah was drunk. We have been having lots of these warnings, albeit, many dont come true. But one of it might just turn out to be true. Even science has agreed that this life and the current world will be destroyed. In as much as we tend to disbelieve these signs, lets have this at d back of our minds ; its better to believe and be prepared, only to find out dt it was all falsehood, than to discard it as a rumour, and the eventuality befalls one.

For those who think the govt has no right to tell the banks to keep the workers, ur wrong. We have been put into so much suffering in this country that we no longer know the right thing. Every country has what is called the LABOUR LAWS, which deals with the rights and relationship of the employee and the employer. Ideally, it is wrong to just layoff a staff without informing the staff and preparing a severance package. If the staffs protest to the govt, as they have done, the govt has a right to intervene, and in this case,d govt is waitin for the outcome of a meeting.

Health / U.S Sees 1st Case Of Bacteria Resistant To ALL Antibiotics. by BOLAUWA: 5:15pm On May 27, 2016
U.S. sees first case of bacteria resistant to all antibiotics By Ransdell Pierson and Bill Berkrot (Reuters) - U.S. health officials on Thursday reported the first case in the country of a patient with an infection resistant to all known antibiotics, and expressed grave concern that the superbug could pose serious danger for routine infections if it spreads. "We risk being in a post-antibiotic world," said Thomas Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, referring to the urinary tract infection of a 49- year-old Pennsylvania woman who had not travelled within the prior five months. Frieden, speaking at a National Press Club luncheon in Washington, D.C., said the infection was not controlled even by colistin, an antibiotic that is reserved for use against "nightmare bacteria." The infection was reported Thursday in a study appearing in Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, a publication of the American Society for Microbiology. It said the superbug itself had first been infected with a tiny piece of DNA called a plasmid, which passed along a gene called mcr-1 that confers resistance to colistin. "(This) heralds the emergence of truly pan-drug resistant bacteria," said the study, which was conducted by the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. "To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of mcr-1 in the USA." The patient visited a clinic on April 26 with symptoms of a urinary tract infection, according to the study, which did not describe her current condition. Authors of the study could not immediately be reached for comment. The study said continued surveillance to determine the true frequency of the gene in the United States is critical. "It is dangerous and we would assume it can be spread quickly, even in a hospital environment if it is not well contained," said Dr. Gail Cassell, a microbiologist and senior lecturer at Harvard Medical School. ADVERTISEMENT But she said the potential speed of its spread will not be known until more is learned about how the Pennsylvania patient was infected, and how present the colistin-resistant superbug is in the United States and globally. "MEDICINE CABINET IS EMPTY FOR SOME" In the United States, antibiotic resistance has been blamed for at least 2 million illnesses and 23,000 deaths annually. The mcr-1 gene was found last year in people and pigs in China, raising alarm. The potential for the superbug to spread from animals to people is a major concern, Cassell said. For now, Cassell said people can best protect themselves from it and from other bacteria resistant to antibiotics by thoroughly washing their hands, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly and preparing foods appropriately. Experts have warned since the 1990s that especially bad superbugs could be on the horizon, but few drugmakers have attempted to develop drugs against them. Frieden said the need for new antibiotics is one of the more urgent health problems, as bugs become more and more resistant to current treatments. "The more we look at drug resistance, the more concerned we are," Frieden added. "The medicine cabinet is empty for some patients. It is the end of the road for antibiotics unless we act urgently." Overprescribing of antibiotics by physicians and in hospitals and their extensive use in food livestock have contributed to the crisis. More than half of all hospitalized patients will get an antibiotic at some point during their stay. But studies have shown that 30 percent to 50 percent of antibiotics prescribed in hospitals are unnecessary or incorrect, contributing to antibiotic resistance. Many drugmakers have been reluctant to spend the money needed to develop new antibiotics, preferring to use their resources on medicines for cancer and rare diseases that command very high prices and lead to much larger profits. In January, dozens of drugmakers and diagnostic companies, including Pfizer (PFE.N), Merck & Co (MRK.N), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ.N) and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK.L), signed a declaration calling for new incentives from governments to support investment in development of medicines to fight drug-resistant superbugs. Health / 256 Years Old Man Reveals Secrets To Long Life - PHOTOS by BOLAUWA: 9:35pm On May 24, 2016
What is the longest a person has ever lived for? Meet Li Ching Yuen, a man who lived an astonishing 256 years! And no, this is not a myth or a fictional tale. According to a 1930 New York Times article, Wu Chung-chieh, a professor of the Chengdu University, discovered Imperial Chinese government records from 1827 congratulating Li Ching-Yuen on his 150th birthday, and further documents later congratulating him on his 200th birthday in 1877. In 1928, a New York Times correspondent wrote that many of the old men in Li’s neighborhood asserted that their grandfathers knew him when they were boys, and that he at that time was a grown man. Li Ching Yuen reportedly began his herbalist career at the age of 10, where he gathered herbs in mountain ranges and learned of their potency for longevity. For almost 40 years, he survived on a diet of herbs such as lingzhi, goji berry, wild ginseng, he shoo wu and gotu kola and rice wine. In 1749, at the age of 71, he joined the Chinese armies as teacher of martial arts. Li was said to be a much-loved figure in his community, marrying 23 times and fathering over 200 children. According to the generally accepted tales told in his province, Li was able to read and write as a child, and by his tenth birthday had traveled in Kansu, Shansi, Tibet, Annam, Siam and Manchuria gathering herbs. For the first hundred years he continued at this occupation. Then he switched to selling herbs gathered by others. He sold lingzhi, goji berry, wild ginseng, he shou wu andgotu kola along with other Chinese herbs, and lived off a diet of these herbs and rice wine. HE WASN’T THE ONLY ONE According to one of Li’s disciples, he had once encountered an even older 500-year-old man, who taught him Qigong exercises and dietary recommendations that would help him extend his lifespan to superhuman proportions. Apart from Qigong and a herb-rich diet, what else can we learn from this Master of Longevity? How about this: On his death bed, Li famously said, “I have done all that I have to do in this world”. Could his peaceful last words also hint at one of the biggest secrets to a long and prosperous life? It’s interesting to note that in the West, we’re often taught to believe that aging is something that must be “beaten” with high tech infrared devices and state of the art medication. HIS SECRET TO LONG HEALTH: click here to get notifications Li was asked what his secret was to longevity. This was his reply: “Keep a quiet heart, sit like a tortoise, walk sprightly like a pigeon and sleep like a dog.” These were the words of advice Li gave to Wu Pei-fu, the warlord, who took Li into his house to learn the secret of extremely long life. Li maintained that inward calm and peace of mind combined with breathing techniques were the secrets to incredible longevity. Obviously, his diet would have played a large role. But its fascinating that the old living person in recorded history attributes his long life to his state of mind. WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO BELIEVE? With the average lifespan for the Western world currently sitting between 70-85 years, the thought of someone living over 100 years old seems like quite the stretch. The thought of someone living over 200 years old seems extremely suspicious. But why don’t we believe that people can live this long? We have to keep in mind that some people in this world don’t live a grueling 9-5 lifestyle, they don’t have to deal with the stresses of debt, they aren’t breathing polluted city air, and they exercise regularly. They don’t eat refined sugars or flour, or any foods that have had pesticides sprayed on them. They aren’t living off of the standard American diet. They aren’t eating fatty meats, sugary deserts, and genetically modified foods. No antibiotics. No alcohol and no tobacco. Their diets not only exclude junk foods that we so often indulge in, they also include superfoods and herbs which are like steroids for our organs and immune system. They also spend their spare time in nature practicing breathing techniques and meditating which have been proven to improve mental, physical, and emotional health. They keep things simple, get proper sleep, and spend a great deal of time in nature under the sun. When we get a chance to relax in the sun, we feel instantly rejuvenated and call this a “vacation”. Imagine spending a lifetime doing that in the mountains, and combining that with perfect mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. I do not doubt for a minute that if we all did the things we knew we were supposed to do, that living to be 100 years old would be commonplace. When we treat our bodies right, who knows how long we can live for? Originally written by Steven Bancarz and published on Spirit Science and Metaphysics.

Also study in the harshest possible conditions, cos I noticed that that will improve ur stamina and attention span which are key for the exam. Also, alwz believe that u can score higher than this author, cos really, am nt a very intelligent person, so if I cud hit 307, then 310 shud be ur lowest score, believe me, u very can. Politics / Police Brutalise NLC Protesters by BOLAUWA: 10:18am On May 20, 2016
The police yesterday descended on labour leaders in Ebonyi State for organising rally to protest the hike in the pump price of petrol from N86 to N145 per litre. Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ikechukwu Nwafor, was beaten and injured by the police in Abakaliki during a peaceful rally in support of the on-going strike declared by a faction of the NLC. Nwafor, who was teargassed by the police, sustained leg and head injuries. He was bundled into a police Hilux van and whisked to police headquarters in Abakaliki, the state capital. Other labour leaders also sustained varying degrees of injuries during the rally. The labour leaders had gathered at the NLC secretariat located along Ugwuachara Road, Abakaliki and commenced the rally. On getting to Bishop Mcgretrick Pastoral Centre along old Enugu Road, the labour leaders were intercepted by a team of policemen, who were in three Hilux vans and who immediately fired teargas on them, leading to pandemonium in the metropolis as people scampered for safety. This was as some policemen threw teargas while others descended on the labour leaders. The labour leaders were later arrested and taken to the police headquarters, where they were detained. Addressing reporters, Nwafor, who was in police custody alongside other labour leaders, said: “We were on a peaceful rally over the fuel price increase and electricity tariff when we were attacked and it is a protest that is on-going all over the country and we notified the police of the protest. “We gave them a letter on the protest. After I called the Commissioner of Police and she didn’t pick the call, we made sure that the letter was delivered to the commissioner and then commenced the rally. “We were marching peacefully when policemen came and attacked us. They tear-gassed and beat me up. Five policemen bundled me and threw me into their Hilux van and that was why I broke my hands and legs like this. “As you can see, I can’t walk, I’m being assisted to walk and yet, the police refused to allow me to go so that I can go for treatment,” he said. In a reaction, the state Commissioner of Police, Ibekwe Abdallah, noted that the labour leaders were organising illegal meeting that could spark off violence in the state when police got to know about it and dispersed them. Abdallah added that she received a letter from the labour leaders over their planned protest and that the letter was brought to her office at the time the labour leaders were on the rally. Workers in the state were seen at their duty posts when our correspondent visited different government offices in the state. The leadership of the NLC has demanded for the release of the labour leaders. While demanding for the immediate release of the arrested labour members, the Congress said it would not allow any distraction to take it off the struggle path. NLC General Secretary, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, in Abuja, warned that overzealous security personnel should not escalate the protest, which has been peaceful. The Labour body said that the struggle continued, no matter government’s intimidation. click here to get notifications “We urge overzealous police personnel who arrested and detained some of our members in Ebonyi State to unconditionally release them immediately. “We would use this opportunity to sound a note of warning to all overzealous security personnel. “This has been a peaceful protest and we intend to keep it so. They should do nothing reckless to escalate it,” Eson said. The protest, which took off at the popular Berger Roundabout, Abuja moved through Area I and Central Business District with improved participation. Meanwhile, there are indications that the NLC may call off its two-day old industrial action anytime from today. This is even as the NLC yesterday agreed to resume negotiation with the Federal Government on the strike action over deregulation of the downstream sector of the oil industry. The agreement was reached at a mediatory meeting with Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, last night in Abuja, according to a statement by his media adviser, Turaki Hassan. Dogara and the NLC leaders, led by the national president, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, met behind closed doors for one hour where the agreement was reached. During the meeting, the speaker made passionate appeal to the labour leaders to consider national interest over and above all other interests even as they deliberate to take decision on the current strike action. The speaker urged the NLC to, in the interest of the nation, consider suspending or calling off the strike action while negotiations continue. Responding, Wabba thanked the speaker for his interest in resolving the crisis through mediation and assured that they will report the discussions to the larger body of their members. Consequently, the NLC resolved to communicate the new development to the larger body comprising of all its affiliate unions because “we have absolute confidence in the leadership of the speaker.” Speaking after an earlier meeting with the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, Wabba said that Labour was open to negotiation with the Federal Government on the dispute. The NLC President, however, insisted that the strike embarked upon by the union would continue. Wabba, who is leading a faction of the NLC, also clarified that the union had never staged a walk out on the Federal Government delegation, contrary to media reports. However, the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joe Ajaero-led NLC faction which controls the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), National Union of Electricity Employees and others refused to participate in the strike, calling for support for government. Saraki said that the NLC had shown commitment for dialogue, assuring that the National Assembly would play its role in resolving the crisis.
