Banks be like: Okay FG, we're not gonna sack anyone but where do we get money to pay salaries? undecided

FG be like: are you a learner? Haven't u learned anything from the way we've been running the Nigerian economy? When time reach to pay, just keep posting them, when they tire to work without pay, they will by themselves resign.

Problem with the Banks.....they are too dependent on the government for their profits.

I guess they have to diversify from being government account holders.

PLus....the banks cannot afford to keep excess workers.....so ordering them to stop sacking won't do much good.

I advise the FG to rather provide alternative job opportunities for the Nigerian people which America is currently doing in the agriculture sector which just added 30,0000 job in one month alone rather than stopping the banks from down sizing if thier private business is not yielding profit !!!!

One has to have a viable agric sector to do that.

In the US....most farming is done on large scale farms....which can create employment. Many of these farms earn revenue by selling to big companies...and by export. Unlike Nigeria....where most farming is done on small scale farms...which is usually the farmer and his immediate family.Less than 10% of the farming done in Nigeria is done on large sale farms.

(And no...asking the govt to set up farms....won't work. Did not work in the past....won't work to day).

Also....most bankers are white collar workers. Farming does not have enough space for such people....unless you want to force office workers to get a hoe and start digging.Keep in mind that many of the 30000 jobs created in farming are most likely for unskilled workers.

Re: Breaking: FG Order Banks Not To Sack Workers by BOLAUWA: 7:10am On Jun 04, 2016
For those who think the govt has no right to tell the banks to keep the workers, ur wrong. We have been put into so much suffering in this country that we no longer know the right thing. Every country has what is called the LABOUR LAWS, which deals with the rights and relationship of the employee and the employer. Ideally, it is wrong to just layoff a staff without informing the staff and preparing a severance package. If the staffs protest to the govt, as they have done, the govt has a right to intervene, and in this case,d govt is waitin for the outcome of a meeting.

I don't know how true this news is.

But in a democratic setting, the Federal Government cannot interfare in the free market.

The Banks are not owned by the Government, and as it is obtainable all over the world, the Government plays a regulatory role and nothing else.

The Government cannot dictate to banks on who to sack or not.
that is federal might for you ... Somethings you think federal government don't have control over are actually not ... Federal Government owns every institutions public or private ...

The Government is doing it because if they don't, most Nigerians would accuse them of being ''insensitive to the people's plight''.

It is like the removal of fuel subsidy argument over again......good decisions are not taken because of potential initial hardships.

Did you hear yourself at all? So if government set up a farm, its one man n his immediate family that will run it?
Govt can set up farms in large scale here, mechanise it n employ people, we have enough and good land.
And mind you agriculture was our main export befor d oil boom. Go n read ur history.

You are right...I suppose. (and I gave you a like by the way).

But...most banks right now are declaring losses. And if they do not start sacking staff right now (to keep the profits up)....it could make them look less profitable...even start declaring losses....which could lead to people taking their money out of said banks...which could lead to them collapsing...which could lead to much bigger job losses.

Bank downsizing exercise is part of the coin of the sharp implementation of TSA Policy.

The closure of government accounts with commercial banks, as a result of Buhary's administration SHARP implementation of the TSA policy, although designed to ensure accountability and transparency, will equally ground a lot of commercial banks.

Please be on the watch, some commercial banks in Nigeria will soon fold up while their would be series of M&A.

The CHANGE is here. cool

Govt can set up farms in large scale here, mechanise it n employ people, we have enough and good land.
And mind you agriculture was our main export befor d oil boom. Go n read ur history.

1. Government run farms have failed. A good example are the old Agric settlements of the old Western region.

Problem with government run farms is that government business is nobody's buisness....and that means badly run farms. (Nigeria is littered with examples of such failed govt run farms).

If you want a farm to be profitable....leave it in private hands. Profit motive would make the owner and workers make the farm work. Government farm....staff salaries are not dependent on how much the farm makes. If the farm fails...or success...the staff would be paid....which impedes motivation to make it work.

2. Agric was our big earner in the 1960's....when we had guaranteed markets in the UK. Not anymore. Infact....if we had not had oil...we would have been severely broke in the 1970's and 80's....when our agric began to fail.

3.The only way you can make agric be a job creator in Nigeria is by large scale privately owned farms. Not by small holder farms.

What is this one saying? The FG doesn't have any power to interfere with private bodies unless some labor laws were infringed on in which case the affected can gonto the court to seek redress.

Or does ngige think he is serving a supreme military council?

After bastardizing the economy? This is laughable
Hard times everyone is facing at the moment is caused by the rigid government policies................now they want to tell banks that are facing hard times not to sack there workers.
