Hello Ladies,
What are the traditional things you are using to prepare yourself for labour? I am 30 weeks now and I want to get ready. Will like to read from past and current experience. |

dobnina: Forgot to add, the purpose of drinking Ewedu leaf is to ease child birth. To make delivery easier. Thank you, I will start this 2 months to delivery. A cup of ewedu blended daily should do right? Did you religiously drink it every day? Please if you can help me ask grandma what someone can use to induce(bring on) labour after 40 weeks . I always go over up to 42 weeks which causes me to give in to medical intervention. |

dobnina: Op, most people that do purely traditional are in the village. Most educated folks combine both traditional and modern just in case. Let me tell you my story. When I was pregnant, I had low PCV, one expensive drug was prescribed, I used it but it didn't work so I had to call Grandma. She told me to get one leaf (ewe ogbon; I don't know the english name), wash it to get the juice and drink with peak milk first thing in the morning. I did as instructed and it worked. The next time I went to check my PCV, it increased greatly. I was still going to the hospital and taking normal modern medicine. When it was time for baby to turn, he didn't turn. So I was told I will do CS. I called grandma again and she sent some herbs through a driver. I took the herbs and baby turned. Doctor asked me what I used, I just told him prayers worked. 2 months to delivery, grandma instructed me to start blending Ewedu leaf(I don't know the english name) and drink without cooking. I was doing it consistently. In my family, we have history of newborns having jaundice at birth so grandma told me to get unripe pawpaw, soak for some days and drink so i can pee everything out. Thank God I had a smooth delivery and the baby never had jaundice. What I am trying to say is that, you don't depend on only traditional method. You combine both. If modern doesn't work, use traditional. That's what I did and thats what people I know did too. Thank you so so much, God bless you. These are the types of stories I wanted women to share. As I mentioned in my post I Believe in balance. I believe strongly we need both traditional and medical for birth and many other ailments in this world. And sadly lack of it, is making people have unnecessary MAJOR surgery or spending their last kobo/borrow money for medical solutions. Many women abroad are now pushing homebirths and discovering herbal medicines from other countries to help ease labour. Our doula's (birth assistants) are recommending herbal medicine from other part of the world for us to buy cos that is what they know.Me that I am from Africa (Nigeria) will still now source Herbal from Brazil or Mexico because they are the only ones available in the online market. I feel that is not right, hence why I came on here. Most people I called in naija are forming educated (oyinbo brainwashed) mentally for me. Oyinbo Don show me pepper for hospital .... Thank you once again. |

Foodqueen: Forward ever.
Mother and child alive is what we pray for.
Some still do the ewe and agbo in Nigeria here, they still loss their babies and still undergo Cs to bring out the still babies and safe the mother's life. Herbal is not backward. Ewe and egbo is not why people have loss their babies . Intervention is necessary when needed, I personally believe in balance. We seriously need both. If you hear ridiculous reasons why they offer CS you will be amazed. But I am putting that aside. Just wanted people who are enlightened and experienced and bold with herbal remedies to share. |

Houseofglam7: Talk to a Doula over there of what your options are or could be.
Don’t gamble with your life tho. Already doing that. Just want to tap into our root too. But its seems like it is fading away which is sad. |

I am Yoruba and live abroad. Not my first baby but want to do things differently, I have always had my water broken to start labour and it always end with CS due to being over 40 weeks.
So I need help from people with traditional experience using well tested herbal remedy. Not fetish medicine , HERBAL medicine ewe ati egbo.
PS; NO MEDICAL ADVICE PLEASE, THIS IS FOR TRADITIONAL REMEDY. |

Delektable: Wow, this life is funny. Mummy mine was even the reverse, my wife took in sharp sharp breastfeeding or no breastfeeding, I was even shocked how it happened. Baby was about 7 months sef when she took in, then she was actively breastfeeding because my wife did almost 90% breastfeeding with little solid food after 6 months but exclusively for 0-6months, and I was firing down with rest of mind, nuturing our new born. We even consulted our Gynae consultant and he said no wahala. Only for mama to start displaying all the pregnancy signs again. When our baby was 9-10 months, these signs became intense, we now did PT, lo and behold another one was already in the oven. Since then, I am afraid to fire carelessly after the birth of baby 2. So my advice is whether or not you are breastfeeding just tell oga to keep firing without caution since you want it, don't worry if it will happen it will happen....and of course put it in prayers. Lol. Different strokes for Different folks. Thanks a lot for these reassuring words. Much appreciated. Sending love and light to you and your family. |

PLEASE my lovely and thoughtful fellow Nairalanders kindly resist the urge to SPAM this post with your opinion about child birth. I understand you and your frustration. I know some people are childless and want to frustrate others and some simple do not believe in having children and I simple respect that.
This post is strictly for people who believe in child birth. Let us benefit from a positive forum as Nigerians. Mumsnet and many other forums discuss these topics in a very healthy and loving manner. And they are mostly white people.
Thank you for understanding. |

Thank you. Will give it a little more time ,if it doesn't happen will have to do that. frozen70: Just make up your mind and stop breast feeding that's the only solution
Then keep lots of goodies and provision incase she needs food at midnight
Then start wearing bra 24hrs once the fluid does not get sucked, it will withdraw but you may experience slight pains because of the withdrawal |

Yes, I want to stop breastfeeding but baby refuses to stop .She is eating a bit of solids but major feed is breast milk day and night. I want to have another baby but it is not happening and I think it is because I am breastfeeding.
I know people have been lucky getting pregnant while breastfeeding, but has anyone who had no luck tried anything extraordinary to get pregnant while breastfeeding ? |

Show us Tanfirin oh, that will be lovely. Eulalia: Yes dear.
I used to buy it a lot but these days I dont get to see it much in my area. And the ones I see are usually exposed to air by those Hawking it. At supermarket, I won't get enough to quench my hunger for it cos it will be so small and expensive. So i bought 1paint corn and milled it. I make it at home now and eat it to my satisfaction. I can't seem to have enough of it. So sweeeeet.
Ah tanfirin too is very easy. Mix corn and fried groundnut, ginger and pepper and grind dry. Then add sugar and little water then press together to mould. Its been long though but those are the basic ingredients for tanfili aka dankwa.
Primary school days things.
Thanks. |

Oh,that is a good one. So basically , dried corn( used for popcorn) blend it to powder form and that is cornmeal powder. Eulalia: I didn't use branded cornmeal. I bought dry corn and took it to the millers and milled it. |
Food › Re: Lagos Island Snack Recipes Needed by Boliboli760(op): 1:16pm On Jul 16, 2020 |
What cornmeal powder brand did you use? You can share the pics here or did you make your corn meal yourself? Eulalia: * When it is cooled, add the remaining half cup cornmeal you set aside and knead until smooth. As shown below
* Take a little portion and roll in between your palm, you can also roll it on a flat table to get a longer shape.Repeat this process for the remaining dough.
* Now heat up some vegetable oil until hot and fry the rods shaped dough until it hardens.
*Remove the cornsticks and place on sieve lines with paper towels, to remove excess oil.Leave to cool and ENJOY . |
