Taking care of ur dogs teath

Are u unable to hug ur dog because he has a bad breath? Does ur dog also droll while eaten his kibble? Then it could mean ur dog has a dental disease.

Dental disease rearly ocur and when it does it happens mostly to dogs above 3 years.

dental diseases, including include halitosis (bad breath) and gingivitis (gum disease) and they are caused by tartar accumulation.

All dogs can develop dental tartar, but small breed dogs are particularly predisposed.

Be sure to inspect ur dogs teeth and gums on a regular basis just as u do with his or her skin and haircoat.

Here’s the key to getting a good look. don’t try to pry ur dogs jaws open lest u would engage in a wrestling match

Rather do it with the mouth remaining closed, simply pull those flabby lips up, down, and then back (as if he is smiling) to get a good view of the gums and teeth. Look for tartar accumulation (brown colored material that’s adhered to the teeth) redness or swelling of the gums, and broken or loose teeth.

If ur dog does develop significant tartar and gingivitis, he’ll need a thorough dental cleaning. Should such significant abnormalities be found, ur vet will discuss antibiotic therapy and the pros and cons of removing the affected teeth versus a root canal procedure.

The best way to prevent tartar buildup is to brush ur dogs teeth atleast twice a month. Ask ur vet or someone experienced to teach u that physically cos i cant explain that here or u watch on YouTube.

What else to do aside from brushing? There are some dental chews, additives u can add to ur dogs water. They are meant for the health of teeth and gums. There are also some dry food specially formulated that can help prevent tartar buildup like Purina.

However, nothing beats regular brushing.

Part of ur dogs annual physical examination performed by ur vet should include careful inspection of the teeth and gums. Early identification and treatment of dental disease goes a long way in preventing serious consequences.

loss of appetite in your dog is a serious sign that something is wrong. It’s unusual for a dog to refuse more than one or two meals and this can indicate anything from depression to disease. Sometimes a stressful situation or an upset stomach can be to blame, but these things are often resolved within a day. If more than 48 hours go by with your dog still refusing to eat, take them to the vet immediately.

Loss of appetite in dogs can be caused by the following

Change of meal, illness, vaccination, injury in the mouth or other body parts, pains in the body, Parasitic infestation, depression, anxiety, like Worms etc. The symptoms in ur case could be worm infestation it could also be other forms of illness.

Signs that ur dog has lost its appetite may include the following:

Eating less than usual

Refusing to eat at all

Not eating treats

Trying to eat, but not being able to finish a meal

Weight loss

Lack of energy

Vomiting

Treatment of Loss Of Appetite In Dogs

If your dog is having difficulty eating, there are a few thing you can try at home to tempt them. You can try changing the food that you’re giving your dog in case there is something in it that your dog has decided it doesn’t like any more or that is causing an upset stomach.

You can also try to warm the food a little or soften dried food by adding water to see if that makes it easier to eat and digest. Some dogs will respond to hand feeding when they’re feeling under the weather.

There are also appetite boosting drugs that can be used to try to encourage your dog to eat.

U should deworm ur dogs regularly with an approximate dewormer .

Dental problems can also make ur dogs not not eat.
When they are growing teeth it would surely affect t their appetite.

viral infections such as distemper and parvo virus can make ur dogs loss of appetite.

Brucellosis in dogs

There are many risk associated with mating of dogs and as a responsible breeder u shoulder not skip testing.

Let me talk about one of the risk

Brucellosis

This is a dangerous Disease

Brucellosis is a contagious disease caused by the bacterium Brucella canis. It is a major cause of infertility in dogs. It can also be transmitted from dogs to humans.

In dogs, one of the sign of brucellosis is abortion during pregnancy. Other signs include stillbirths, inability to conceive. Sometimes infected dogs may not show any symptoms.

symptoms in humans vary. They range from infertility or serious cardiac or neurological problems. Etc

In dogs, the bacteria tend to attack the reproductive organs but can also migrate to the eyes, spinal column, liver, spleen, and lymph nodes.

The main mode of transmission of brucellosis is by direct contact with infected body fluids, such as semen, vaginal secretions, and urine.

Brucellosis affects female and male dogs in specific ways:

Females: Symptom in the female dog is infertility, with 75 percent of cases resulting in late-term abortion (45–55 days of gestation). And then inability to conceive.

Males: In the early phase of infection, the testes will be enlarged and painful. As the infection progresses, the testes become firm and shrunken. Infected males will become sterile due to testicular damage causing anti-sperm antibody formation.
Infected males may also develop prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland), with symptoms of difficulty urinating and defecating.

Non-reproductive symptoms in both sexes can include lethargy, weight loss, and exercise intolerance.

This is a disease is zoonotic disease.(its a dieses capable of spreading from animals to humans)

Before u pay for stud service make sure his tested atleast annually, and bitches must be tested prior to each breeding.

Most human cases of brucellosis are caused by consuming unpasteurized dairy products or undercooked meat, it is possible for humans to get this disease from dogs also. People who have had direct contact with an aborted litter can be infected.

De hydration and Overheating in dogs

Dehydration and over heating could be serious if left untreated. Recognising early warning signs is important to the health of ur dog

Dehydration

This is a process where body fluids is excessively lost. Dehydration involves the loss of water and depletion of electrolytes, which include some essential minerals. It could be caused by illness or lack of availability of water.

Signs of a dehydrated dog include sunken eyes, dry mouth, gums and nose.

Poor skin elasticity is another dehydration symptom, which u can test by gently pulling up on the skin at the back of ur dog’s neck. If the skin doesn’t immediately spring back to its normal position, ur dog may be dehydrated.

The longer it takes for the skin to return to its normal position, the more severe the dehydration.

Another test u can perform at home is called capillary refill time. Press ur finger against ur dog's gums until they turn white, then remove it. If the gums don’t regain color immediately, ur dog could be dehydrated.

Since untreated dehydration can lead to organ failure and death, seek immediate vet attention if dehydration is suspected.

Depending on the severity, ur vet may suggest water with electrolyte products. In extreme cases, intravenous fluids will be administered to replenish ur dog's fluids.

Overheating

Heat-related dog conditions can also become life-threatening without immediate treatment.

Overheated dogs can suffer heat exhaustion, heat stroke or sudden death from cardiac arrhythmias.

Panting, followed by disorientation and fast, noisy breathing could signal overheating. Other possible signs: Collapsing or convulsing, bright red or blue gums, vomiting and diarrhea.

Plz when ur travelling long distance with ur dog in the car watch out for over heating. Dont walk ur dog under hot sun. These situations can make a dog become dangerously hot, u should watch ur dog closely for overheating signs.

If you suspect ur dog is overheated, wet him with cool water before heading to the vet.

ur vet may apply alcohol to the ears, foot pads and groin to safely lower the temperature, as well as administer cool IV fluids.

For serious overheating, ur dog may need a breathing tube and artificial ventilation.

Simple precautions can ward off dehydration and overheating.

To help prevent dehydration, offer dogs water at least once every two hours. Avoid keeping them in hot cages. Let their houses be well ventilated. Avoid walking them under the sun like i said ealier.

help ur dog beat the heat by encouraging resting and drinking at his leisure.

Giving multivitamin in dogs during pregnancy.

Just the way pregnant mothers whether they eat right or not they always go for anti natal care and the doc usually prescribe some routine drugs for them because food alone cant meet up with the extra demand thats how i feel it should for dogs as well. We all knw too that dogs usually loss appetite in some stage of there pregnancy so giving multivitamin would help their system greatly in times when they dont eat especially dogs with large litters dogs with large litters.

Another factor is this, how many Nigerians can actually afford a high quality meal for third dogs? How many can consistently afford a good quality feed of 20k? Lets not pretend about this. So its best u support ur bitch with a good multivitamin.

However some multivitamin can have negative effects on pregnant bitches so u av to be sure to get the right one.

When they become pregnant there are other vitamins and minerals that need to be upped to fill the need for healthy pups and mum. For example, folic acid and iron.

Multivitamins for dogs are the ideal way for bitches to get that extra boost. Pups need vitamins for their growth and development, these all must come from mom. If mom isn't healthy, why would the puppies be?

Due to her increased metabolism, she needs the additional vitamins, minerals that work directly for the purpose of having healthy puppies.

When a bitch is giving good multivitamin and food pups are just healthier. Their immune systems is usually better. Some multivitamin like bitch pills helps greatly in lactation and also help post child birth to aid the bitch recover.

Keeping ur dogs Paws healthy

dogs spend so much time running, jumping, fetching and generally mostly outside so u expect their paws to be dirty and needs care as well.

The paw are made up of skin, bone, tendons, ligaments, blood supply, and tissue.

If u av an a parlour dog and u never walk that dog on hot streets, they are going to av blister when u eventually start it so its important to introduce ur dogs to this.

During the hot seasons exercise ur dogs to avoid pad blistering in the future.

To avoid damages during cold weather u also av to take ur dogs out on walks.

Paws allow dogs to move around comfortably on land and in the water.

Water dogs, such as retrievers, have webbing between toes to help them swim better in the water.

Snow breeds like the St. Bernard and the Newfoundland have large paws with greater surface that allow them to walk steadily and with ease on cold and icy terrain for those that live abroad, but i learnt there use to be snow in Jos is that true?

If damage occurs to one paw, a dog can still get around, but it will limp. Damage more than one paw and the dog is severely handicapped.

To keep those very important paws in top shape, u could check inspect ur dog's paws every time come back from a walk or exercise sessions. Make sure they've not picked up a stick, thorn, and also check in between the toes.

However, if ur dog suddenly starts limping, u should examine ur dog’s paws immediately. Look between toes, on the top of the foot and between the pads on the bottom of the feet.

us ur dog spend time licking his feet? If so, this could be a warning sign. U need to investigate the source of the irritant to determine if there is a particular reason or location of the dog’s attention to its feet.

If ur dogs is susceptible to contact allergies to certain grasses, washing off the dog’s feet after being outside is a good idea.

Biting and chewing or licking can be a sign of inhalant allergies and the dog needs to be checked by a vet

Excessive licking can damage the tissues further and can also delay healing. So it's a good idea to always check the status of ur dog's paws if anything seems out of the ordinary. If you notice that ur dog has a minor cut on his paw, wash the foot with an antiseptic soap and apply a topical antibiotic cream.

What may appear to be a small wound on the surface actually may be a tendon laceration.

It's not unusual for dogs to have cracked or dry pads. If dogs spend a lot of time on rough surfaces such as concrete they will eventually have thickened pads.

In this case the best thing to do is rub Vitamin E cream into the pad just like u would if you have sand paper hands make sure to rub it well so the dog would not lick it off.

When it comes to a dog's nails and how often they need to be trimmed, it depends on the dog's activities. In general, the nails need to be trimmed monthly so that the tip of the nail (length) is roughly aligned with the plane of the pad on the toe.

As a responsible dog owner or lover u should download Telegram from Play store and join the group now.

I hope u dont want to miss us? We dnt wana say goodbye to u as well cos thats the saddest word.
