You must be unique as a writer. Let your content be unique. |
And there are so many sources where you can obtain your information such as in the news media. |
Never ever compromise on your content when writing a book. |
Your content is key. It's the king! |
This means that whatever information or facts you will use in the book must be double-checked before you publish the book. |
This is because political issues are delicate and must be handled with care. |
Having a collection of books you've written is important. It will boost your sales. |
Yes don't be a flash in the pan. Be a force to reckon with. Be a force to identify with who will produce many fruits and stick around for a long time to come. Yes you can! |
Launching your writing career in a strong way matters. Don't be a flash in the pan. |
All4good:No you didn't answer the question. You simply avoided the question. Have you ever seen a white man use a Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo name? Have you ever seen this happen before? You didn't answer this. You avoided it. The examples you gave are white people adopting white names and this was not the focus of my earlier post. Not everybody can adopt a name or a white name. I'm not saying some people are not doing so. If at all as a Nigerian you want to hide your identity and use a pen name, why don't you use a native name that belongs to your cultural heritage? If some whites are using pen names, they use white names. If Nigerians want to adopt a pen name, instead of using or adopting Nigerian names, they adopt foreign white names. Why can't you use your cultural name or even if it's not your cultural name, use any other Nigerian name? Eg a Yoruba writer adopting an Hausa name or vice versa, if you want to hide your identity. Has this happened before? So the fact that some people are doing something doesn't mean it's good for everybody. It doesn't mean you should advise every dick and harry to do it. Majority of authors don't adopt Pen names except those who are writing many books on different genres or are writing very classified or politically expository content. Like George Orwell - Animal Farm. And mind you, with my over 15 years of professional experience editing books for both Nigerians, Africans and whites alike, I can confidently tell you that many Nigerians who adopted white names for their books didn't go far with it. They simply couldn't sustain it because at the moment it's expensive in the long run to maintain a pen name especially if you're already known to some extent with your own name. Mind you also, in the course of my editing career, I've met white writers who later regretted adopting a pen name. They wished they had stuck to their real names, but it was already too late to do this and changing back to their real names would mean a lot of confusion, expenses and waste of decades of years in the process. So all that glitters is not gold. I'm talking from experience. Many years of experience. My focus here is that Nigerian writers or African writers can make it in any genre they want even by using their own names as long as they package their books well and promote it massively. Yes they can make it without necessarily having to be forced to adopt a white man's name. That's my focus. |
Femolacaster:Alright, nice to know. Thanks. |
Maintain your cultural heritage. |
This means that you have to be sure of anything you put out in the book. |
Pls this is definitely not a good advice. It's harmful to women. Pls people should look for her username on Instagram or anywhere she is and report her so that she can be banned. This type of woman will break homes and destroy men's destinies. |
Writing a political book involves a lot of things. First you have to ensure you get your facts right. |
All4good:No, such advice is not meant for everybody. Not everyone must use an English name or pen name. It's better to use your own name. Things have changed and are changing worldwide. People respect Nigerian writers worldwide so you don't have to change your name to a white man's name. It's like selling your identity and birthright. Why can't a white man change his name to a Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa name? Have you ever seen this happen before? So why should you change your name and abandon your cultural heritage? Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Chimamanda Adichie and many other Nigerian writers used their real names and even whites respect them so much and want to learn from them. Promote your book well and people will surely buy it all over the world. Don't look for shortcuts or get rich quick syndrome. Wait for your time just as Chimamanda waited for her time and when it's your time you will go round the whole world and people will read and buy your book worldwide. It depends on what works for the person. We don't advise anyone to use a pen name. We have several years of professional experience and from experience, most Nigerians that used pen names couldn't sustain it because it's difficult to maintain and promote when you have a double identity. A lot of other strong reasons against it but I won't be able to write everything here. |

You too can write a book. |
There are so many opportunities to make good money in Nigeria. It's only that people don't know them or fail to take action. Many Nigerians instead of investing their money in publishing a book for example, they invested in the fraudulent MMM ponzi scheme which collapsed and they could not retrieve their money running into several billions of naira. Because many Nigerians are simply greedy and like to cut corners. When you introduce a genuine business or idea they can invest in and make money over a long period of time, they would not listen but would put their money in fraudulent ventures because they want quick and greedy returns. Nothing good comes easy. No genuine business can be done anywhere all over the world within a very short period of time and make you billions of naira. Genuine business takes time and efforts to build. Publish a book today. Invest your money in book publishing. It's a very lucrative and genuine business you can do and if you don't know how to write and publish your own books, we'll coach you or write and publish it for you. BookEditor:Yes very true. The youths need to take up this challenge and write books on Buhari's government. A lot of money is waiting to be made here. You can contribute to politics by writing books even without necessarily going into government to take up a post. |
It's not writing 10 or 20 books that matters, it's making money with them in your own lifetime. Not writing for your children to be the ones to enjoy the fruits when you're gone. Learn to make money with your books even while you're still alive. Then your children can continue doing so later on. |
