Stability for the few elite, and misery for the rest.... Yep, you may called that a good thing, but I don't as I focus at the little people, not the elephant in this issue.

I am not talking about benefits that accrue to the "elite". I am talking about the stability from a decline in the probability of a major geopolitical war. This is primarily due to the decline in Statism and the embrace of multilateral trade. The simple fact is, countries are unlikely to go to war if their economic interest are intertwined. Everyone has benefited from this relative stability.

There's no denying that there are geopolitical flash points and little people suffer from misery. Go back through the last century and you would realize that this is simply not going to change - even though the players might change.

If you believe the above then NEVER look down on the actions of the few who do not want to be controlled/robbed of their natural resources by these hypocrite states.

Feel free to be emotional in your judgement on what is moral or not - It wouldn't really change reality. Economic/military/resource dominance is not really an emotional issue. When countries find something to be in their national interest, they fight for it, even if it is at the expense of other countries.

Nigeria did it with Biafra
UK --> Flaklands war with Argentina
Russia -->> Gerogia and Crimea
China --->> South China sea

There are no emotions between states, only National interest.

Again, let us all thank Russia who brings some kind of stability to this nonsense intent of world domination by the US.
Russia, China, North Korea, Venezuela, Iran, Cuba etc are the real champion state of this world, who won't bow down to the US.

What stability does Russia bring into the equation?

Isn't Russia pursuing military domination in the Baltics?

You think China actually owns South China sea? Aren't they simply pursuing Islands that are in their own national interest at the expense of Philippines and co?

And you talk about "bowing" to the US, can you point out what those countries - besides China- have to show for it in terms of economic prosperity in the last 50 years?

Venezuela has the largest oil reserve in the world - yet they are so broke that the country ran short of toilet papers.

Even China's economic growth only happened through accession into the WTO and its trade with the United States.

If you look at a list of countries by gdp per capita (a measure of economic prosperity) , the top 50 have close economic ties with the United States. Do you seriously want your country to be more like Cuba (that doesn't bow to the US) or more like Japan (that bows to the US)?

History has shown over and over and over again that it is better to have a beneficial relationship with the USA than to simply antagonise it, just so you can look like a champ on the world stage.

MrBrownJay1:

Just because they make foolish people believe that ww1/ww2 are the only wars that happened, doesn't mean you should also follow this foolish way of thinking.
There has been countless of useless wars/invasion, killing million of innocent people, just because of the foolishness of these countries who think they can control the world.

Try to help?! What kind of help is that?! And what king of country doesn't realize for more than 60yrs that they have failed, thus changed their policies?! The US and its allies are directly responsible for all the wars, due to their greed for oil.

You are right - the US has been involved in every major conflict since the end of WWII.

What you - and many others- refuse to acknowledge however is that the world has actually experienced some stability post WWII, mostly due to the world order that was put in place by the United States.

This world order prioritises cooperation through multilateral trade. By lowering trade barriers, countries have an economic incentive to ensure that sources of hostilities are properly managed - and economics, rather than ideology, dominate bilateral relationships. For example, the establishment of the European Union, saw to it that the probability of European countries going to war against each other is effectively close to zero.

That is not to say there haven't been hostilities - the notion of a wholly peaceful world, is itself a mythological nonsense. National interest - a loosely defined term for the quest for economic, military or resource domination - makes a wholly peaceful world impossible. You may call it greed, but that is life. People/countries act in their own interest at the expense of others - even if millions of "innocent people" die in the process.

Finally - History has shown that an isolationist US policy is far more likely to lead to war than ensure peace. It would be very naive, for example to think that lack of US presence in the middle east, Europe or south china sea would bring about peace. It would simply lead to other actors filling the void to pursue their own national interest at the expense of others.

Isn't that precisely what Russia is doing in Syria as well?

Foreign Affairs / Re: Each Tomahawk Missile Costs About $ 1 Million by bookface: 6:11pm On Apr 09, 2017
Besides, the money does not really leave the US

for example,

US government buys missiles from Raytheon:

----> Raytheon pays taxes to US goverment
-----> Raytheon employs people, pays their salary ----> those people pay taxes to US government
----->Raytheon pays whatever profit is left to shareholders ----> Shareholders pay taxes to US government

US government is not really losing. grin

It's actually Trump that is the hypocrite here. Obama was very calculated. If Russia get involved in this matter as e dey hot so, it fit end in World War III o. To worsen the whole thing, Trump banned Syrians from entering US and now he don dey fire catapult into their territory like say he cares. Just negodu sad sad sad sad
Syria didn't even attack US sef. I just hope that crazy Assad or Putin no go fire chemical weapon into US in retaliation.

The truth is that Trump is a hyper-egomaniac and does things most times to show everybody say he be the boss. The first day I listened to Trump on TV, I saw a guy with a dangerous level of ego and ignorance.

Putin is also egomaniac.

What you don't understand is this - Russia is only good at posturing. Putin is not willing to go to war unless Russia itself comes under threat, or if it's a fight that he knows Russia can win e.g Ukraine and Georgia.

When Turkey shot down Russian jet, what happened? A lot of noise, a lot of posturing - move ships around, missile defence.. and nothing! -
The Israel went into Syria with impunity and what happened? A lot of noise, a lot of warning - nothing.

Similarly, in this case, Russia will posture, maybe move a few warships around, but what Putin is really afraid of is someone who is willing to call his bluff. Trump has shown that he is willing to call anybody's bluff.

Let's say tomorrow, there's another chemical weapons attack in Syria, and Trump sends in another wave of missiles, what do you really think Putin will do? Strike American ships? Nope, the dude is not stupid! There will only be more noise, more posturing. He might even do something to negatively affect US interest somewhere else, but he is not going to go to war. War cost money, and it cost lives and the outcome is unpredictable, you don't start one unless you are fighting somewhere with inferior capabilities. Putin knows this. Russia has significant miliatry capabilities, but he knows that at best those capabilities are on par with US...or in reality, inferior to the US.

But Putin is good at spotting weaknesses. He knew that Obama doesn't have guts to take military action, so he did whatever he liked...but Trump, on the other hand is totally unpredictable.

What is actually funny is that Hilary may have been much better for Russia than Trump. Simply because Hilary is predictable and she's likely to be more cautious. Trump on the other hand is emotional.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Putin Considers US Attack In Syria Aggression Against Sovereign State - UPDATES by bookface: 9:57am On Apr 09, 2017
The airstrikes is mostly about delivering a political message, both internally and externally.

Internally.

Donald Trump is desperate to stamp his authority as President and commander-in-chief, after the failure of his immigration ban and Obamacare repeal. Additionally, the internal investigation to his Russian links are definitely hampering his presidency, which has seen his approval ratings drop to the lowest, compared with all past US president.

Externally

First message was to Syria:

Dear Syrian government,

You may have Russia's backing, but because we are Americans, we don't give a F**K. Our government is no longer the Obama's administration who dithers and ponders. We intend to punish you every time you use Chemical or Biological weapons against your citizens. You have three options
a) You can either fight us (which will be a very foolish thing to do, considering that we are Americans)
b) You can sue us, we don't care
c) You can stop gassing your own people to death

Yours Sincerely,
Donald J Trump

Second Message was to Russia:

Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin,

See what i have done? It means i really don't care what your interests are in Syria. You disrespected OBAMA because you considered him to be weak. Don't make that same mistake with me. I will act. I have more tomahawks on each US warship than what your S300s and S400s can stop. And i know that you are not foolish enough to attack an American vessel ust because of Syria. If i can strike Assad's because Assad gassed his own people to death, imagine what i would do if you attack an American vessel and that leads to the deaths of American service men.

I am ready to negotiate on the best approach to Syria, but it is important that you take me seriously.

Your's brotherly,
Donald J Trump.

Third message was to North Korea

You fat Bastard,

I wasn't joking when i said i would act unilaterally to stop you.

Yours,
Donald.

Fourth message was to China

Dear Xi,

I hope you enjoyed your dinner grin . See what i have just done? I took unilateral military step against a country backed by Russia. This is a very similar situation to North Korea. Guess what i mean when i said "If China dosen't help, US will act alone". I wasn't bluffing.

Respectfully,
Donald.

Fifth message was to Iran

Dear Ayotollahs,

When it was Obama, you acted with impunity, knowing fully well that that he is too weak to respond militarily. Guess what? There's a new Sherriff in town.

I dare you to repeat the same mistake you did, by taking US servicemen hostage on international waters and then broadcasting the video. I will very much like to start the biggest fire that you have ever seen.

Donald J Trump (MAGA)

Yes, I recognised the fact that protecting depositors should be a major priority when dealing with a distressed bank but at the same time, government should put in more regulations to protect investors as well. If investors keep losing their investments like the case of bankPHB, confidence in the banking sector will be eroded and eventually, nobody will be willing to invest in the sector again.

Look at the case of HAH above, he lost 500,000 units of bankPHB shares. That's a big loss by any standard. Personally, I still believe Amcon should have offered some little shares as compensations to the original owners of the bank.

No, it is not the government's responsibility to protect shareholders. That's the job of the board, which you the shareholders elected.

The job of the government is to protect debtholders - starting from depositors and ending with bondholders.

As a shareholder, you are a part owner of a business, and you accept the risk that the business may one day go burst, so it is your responsibility to find out as much information as possible about the business before buying into it.

The problem with Nigeria is that most people don't do much financial analysis before buying shares. This is not investing, it's pure gambling.

Your senators and house of rep members take home well over 30 million naira on a monthly basis.

More than 3/4 of the police force take home less than 100,000 monthly.

You don't see where the problem is?

You expect the Police to serve you with their lives, but you don't do much to see to it that the best men are recruited and properly taken care of!

How many of you have written to your senator/house of rep member demanding for better living wage and working conditions for the men in uniform?

They have to eat too! Their kids have to go to school too! If you want them to serve you better, they must be properly taken care of too!

The answer is this -- cut the pay to the National Assembly idiots who really don't do anything - then spend more money to rebuild the Nigerian Police - to attract, train and retain talents .

Hiking duties to stimulate local production is just nonsense.

What local production of anti-malaria drugs or anti-bacterial drugs will meet the needs of 180 million people?

Taxing consumption at a time of rising prices is simply idiotic. It will bring more hardship on the people. Our existing industries simply do not have the means to increase capacity at a rate that will meet demand without price increases.

This government is absolutely incompetent and completely clueless. Adeosun should resign.

greenpasture:

Lol. With my first child at 29, that's kind of difficult. I wish it were true though * sigh*

But here is a background into how conditional cash transfers work. Incidentally it isn't new; Ameachi test drove this in Rivers state a couple of years back.

But here is how BVN simplifies the financial pre-qualification; it's very very simple.

The aim of the FGN's CCT ( conditional cash transfer) is as follows.
1. Reflate the economy in a non inflationary way
2. Drive financial inclusion
3. Embed social impact using pre conditions of children's inoculation.

I state this because I will refer to one of these points again below.

How it works; A single view of all bank account holders is obtained through BVN historical average of bank lodgements/account positions. A simple database script triggers social entitlement status showing the poorest of bank account holders, while address/location triggers state by state entitlements. Final verification may include physical visits ( this last part also creates employment opportunities under the program)

Not everyone has a bank account? Sure. See my point 2. Above.

BVN is an important capability in any financial status profiling. Especially for CCT's and other social entitlement programs.

Reflating an economy with high inflation? Makes you wonder where these so called policy makers are getting their economics degree from.

Typically, you reflate an economy with a certain degree of deflation - e.g Japan

This types of spending proposed by the federal government has a cost - Typically Nigerians will pay for it either

a) Through increased taxation (which the government is not doing)
b) Fiscal austerity (which the government is not doing)
b) Increased deficit spending
c) Higher inflation

You need to start making deals that undercut him.

a) Whenever he sends you to a job, get to know who is who within the business. Tell them that you could do the work for 30% less than what your company is charging them. You can offer additional incentives like discounts for referral, training for staff, software updates etc.

b) Get as many of his business contacts as possible - and build a network as big as you can

c) Once your network is big enough and you are sure that his clients are willing to do business with you directly, resign your job

d) Set up your own company and compete with him for his customers.

You need to show him why you deserve to be treated better. Don't just sit back and moan as a victim, remember it is a dog eat dog world. Nobody likes you! You are the brains behind his business and you deserve a lot more than what he is currently giving you.
