Is Jesus the Archangel Michael?

▪ Put simply, the answer is yes. The custom of being called by more than one name is common in many cultures. The same situation occurs with names in the Bible. For example, the patriarch Jacob is also named Israel. (Genesis 35:10) The apostle Peter is named in five different ways—Symeon, Simon, Peter, Cephas, and Simon Peter. (Matthew 10:2; 16:16; John 1:42; Acts 15:7, 14)

How can we be sure that Michael is another name for Jesus? Consider the following Scriptural evidence.

The Bible contains five references to the mighty spirit creature Michael. Three occurrences are in the book of Daniel. At Daniel 10:13, 21, we read that a dispatched angel is rescued by Michael, who is called “one of the foremost princes” and “the prince of you people.” Next, at Daniel 12:1, we learn that in the time of the end, “Michael will stand up, the great prince who is standing in behalf of the sons of your people.”

A further mention of Michael occurs at Revelation 12:7, which describes “Michael and his angels” as fighting a vital war that results in the ousting of Satan the Devil and his wicked angels from heaven.
Notice that in each of the above-mentioned cases, Michael is portrayed as a warrior angel battling for and protecting God’s people, even confronting Jehovah’s greatest enemy, Satan.
Jude verse 9 calls Michael “the archangel.” The prefix “arch” means “principal” or “chief,” and the word “archangel” is never used in the plural form in the Bible. The only other verse in which an archangel is mentioned is at 1 Thessalonians 4:16, where Paul describes the resurrected Jesus, saying: “The Lord [Jesus] himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet.” So Jesus Christ himself is here identified as the archangel, or chief angel.

In view of the foregoing, what can we conclude? Jesus Christ is Michael the archangel. Both names—Michael (meaning “Who Is Like God?”) and Jesus (meaning “Jehovah Is Salvation”)—focus attention on his role as the leading advocate of God’s sovereignty. Philippians 2:9 states: “God exalted him [the glorified Jesus] to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name.”

It is important to note that the human birth of Jesus was not the beginning of his life. Before Jesus was born, Mary was visited by an angel who told her that she would conceive a child by means of holy spirit and that she should name the child Jesus. (Luke 1:31) During his ministry, Jesus often spoke of his prehuman existence.—John 3:13; 8:23, 58.

So Michael the archangel is Jesus in his prehuman existence. After his resurrection and return to heaven, Jesus resumed his service as Michael, the chief angel, “to the glory of God the Father.”—Philippians 2:11.

First, the fact that the Lord Jesus descends "with an archangel's voice" does not automatically mean that it is his own voice spoken of. This passage simply says that an archangel's voice will accompany the Lord's descent from heaven, in the same manner that the bailiff's voice "All rise!" accompanies the judge's entrance into the courtroom.

Second, Hebrews 1:5 says, "For example, to which of the angels did he [God] ever say: 'You are my son; I, today, I have become your father'?" . The answer to the question is, of course, "none."

Thus, if God never called an angel his Son, then Michael--who is an angel--cannot be the Son. The fact that Michael is an archangel does not change anything, as he is still an angel by nature. An archangel is simply a "higher order" of angel, but an angel nonetheless; "arch-" simply means "ruling" or "high ranking."

God creates angels, then he creates higher angels, but they all worship at the feet of Christ!

When God brings His firstborn into the world, He says, ‘Let all God's angels worship Him.’ In speaking of the angels He says, ‘He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire.’ But about the Son He says, ‘Your throne, O God, will last forever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.’”

The hierarchy of heavenly beings is made clear in this passage—angels worship Jesus who, as God, is alone worthy of worship. No angel is ever worshiped in Scripture; therefore, Jesus cannot be Michael or any other angel. The angels are called sons of God (Genesis 6:2-4; Job 1:6; 2:1; 38:7), but Jesus is THE Son of God (Hebrews 1:8; Matthew 4:3-6).

I don't see how much more Russia could go in terms of arm sales to Syria. Russia moving its battle ships to the Mediterranean sea does not imply that Russia will strike American warships in the event that America strikes at Syria. The gesture is mostly symbolic to the Assad regime that he is not alone. The ships are also ready to convey thousands of Russians currently living in Syria back to Russia in the event of a major escalation.

I have said several times, Russia can scream and shout, but they wouldn't risk complete damnation for anyone, much especially for a war torn Syria.

Obama's decision to seek congress approval is a wise one, although a risky calculation. If Congress approves, then he gets all the domestic legitimacy he requires for a strike - he wouldn't give an @rse what Russians think or say - American public have approved and that's all that matters to him. If he gets shot down at Congress, his image and reputation both domestic and internationally, will be badly tarnished. The goodwill he earned on foreign policy in his first term will be reduced to nothing and his party will struggle at the next elections.

1) The biggest chunk of America's debt is owned by, guess who? The US federal government! The US Federal Reserve, U.S. government's military retirement fund, U.S. government's civilian employee retirement fund and the social security trust fund are the biggest holder's of America's debts! Overall, US entities, owns up to 66% of overall US debts!

2) The Chinese do not use the dollar - the Chinese use the Chinese yuan! Your argument of the Chinese dumping the dollar makes very little sense in this respect. If the Chinese refuse to use the dollar, what are they gonna trade with? Bearing in mind that the US is their second largest trading partner!

3) Russia's economy is actually in crumbles! The Russian economy has recorded its sixth straight quarter of declining economic growth. A year and half ago, Russian GDP growth was above 5%; now it’s barely above 1%, and the worst appears yet to come. The economy is well dependent on the price of oil staying high....of course, this is not guaranteed, and if as you argued, the US really wanted to sabotage Russia's economy, it will simply begin to export shale oil and gas to countries like Poland and the European union! US could simply kill Russia's economic influence in Europe!

4) Following from the last point, if US is interested in sabotaging Russia's economy, Obama would not have signed an agreement that allows Russia to ascend into the World Trading Organisation!

The US military might is unquestionably the biggest and the fiercest in the world - its ability to deploy and have its forces within the zone of action within few days, is unrivaled. Russians come a distant second and China isn't even on the list of the big boys - although it must be said that what they lack in technology and modern weaponry, they make up for in economic strength and numbers.

Russia is NOT on the same level with the United States. The former Soviet Union fielded a military strength that matches the West in everything from bombers, to subs to rocket technology. The Soviet Union was an equal match with the United States, Russia however is NOT! When the Soviet Union collapsed, the military complex was practically shut down. Russia still has its nuclear deterrence, but its technology is well outdated. Who would have thought that Russia couldn't manage to produce its own drones and needed to purchase one from Israel? Or that Russia needed to purchase mistral warships from the french? - The Soviet Union built everything at home, from the tiniest bullets to the biggest rockets.

That said, i don't think Russia and the US will likely ever face off against each other. The stakes are just too high! The old Soviet Union's doctrine was to build everything at home, from bombers to bullets, after its collapse, several of its industries and subcontractors were shut down, the military complex went from about 2000 companies to less than 900. The US on the other hand has been feeding it's military complex with billions of tax payer's money for more than 2 decades. It has fought and learnt from several conflicts over the years, Russia only had two - the first in Chechnya, the second in Georgia.

While Russia won the conflict in Georgia, its Army displayed several military shortcomings that are reflective of Russia's poor standing as a military superpower. Russian forces entering South Ossetia lacked even basic intelligence regarding Georgian artillery positions and troop deployments, which led several of their leading units into costly ambushes. In one surprise attack, the 58th Army's senior commander, Gen. Anatoly Khrulyev, was badly wounded and had to be evacuated.

In a desperate effort to get information, the Russians sent an electronic reconnaissance version of the Tupolev Tu-22M Backfire bomber over the battlefield and it got shot down. In all, Russia lost four planes, including three Sukhoi Su-25 attack fighters to unexpectedly effective Georgian air defenses. Some Russian commanders reported using cellphones to communicate with their units when their own radios failed.

Russia's arsenal is full of Soviet era machines! The US has had its arsenal reformed and transformed with superior military technology over the years, it will take several decades for Russia to catch up - which explains why Putin is shitting in his pants and plans to rearm the Russian military over the next 10 years. Google up DARPA projects and see what American military planners are up to, those guys are badass!

Yakhont, Sunborn and Iskander...

I think it is super idiotic thinking that America does not have "answers" to the Yakhont, Sunborn or Iskander! Dude, America fought head to head with imperial Japan during the world war - deployed and used the the first nuclear weapon! The U2 spy plane - the first of its kind and an aircraft that was several decades ahead of its time - was developed and built under a year. America's nighthawk was developed and flown for 10 years before anyone got a whiff of it! If you really think a couple of missiles is what keeps these people up at night, then you shouldn't be putting up an argument on this thread! Either these missiles are probably not a significant threat or those guys at Lockheed Martin already have a solution for it.

It just doesn't make any sense. If God has said you will die in x years, then it should make sense that nothing will stop you from dying before year x. ---- so again, to you religious psychopaths who are afraid of death, how exactly does one die before their time?

I wonder how long it will take for some Christians to realize that death is not really the worst thing to happen to someone. Trillions of people have come before you and Trillions more will come after you, so it wouldn't matter if you pray from dawn to dusk, death is an obligation that you MUST one day fulfill ....and last time i checked, that good' ol chariot of fire has not been seen on earth since the days of Elijah, so yes, brother, you shall likely die!

If you do not want to die, then do something worthwhile with your life while you still can - your name will stay forever on people's mind and it will cross from one generation to another - Praying to God to lengthen then number of your days, just so you can enjoy more nollywood movies/time out with families only goes so far. In the end, it wouldn't matter if you died at 33 or your died at 100 - you would only have had 67 more years to account for!

Donmams: Despite these inadequacies of the christian belief, i wonder why most christians refuse to accept criticism of their faith's inadequacies by other religions. Perhaps it will serve christians well to dig deeper into the message of islam. Christians should not fall into the stereotype that has been built by the West that Islam is a religion of terror.
