Celebrities › Re: Afeez Owo: My Tribal Marks Got Me Insulted, I Tried Using Sandpaper To Remove... by Born2Breed(f): 11:10am On Jun 09, 2018 |
Kayus4real: One noticeable feature of popular Nollywood actor , Afeez Abiodun popularly known as Afeez Owo are the tribal marks on his face . While some might argue that he would have been more handsome without them , the actor begs to differ as he told Saturday Beats that he had to face reality and accept what his parents created on his face .
He opened up that initially as a young boy , he disliked the marks and went to the extent of using sandpaper to get rid of them all to no avail simply because he was always taunted by bus conductors .
Owo added that he would never allow anyone inflict such scars on the face of his children.
“ I am very comfortable with my tribal marks now and if anything ever wipes them off my face, I would feel bare or naked and my fans would not recognise me . While I was growing up in Surulere, there were a lot of times I was teased by people because of my tribal marks . They abused me so much but I did not care; today my tribal mark is my trademark. There was a time people teased me so much that I attempted to use sandpaper to wipe them off especially when bus conductors insulted me about it. They always picked on me and called me various names but I thank God for who I am today. I am also glad I did not get rid of the tribal marks . There is no insult anyone can dish out to me over my tribal marks that would hurt my feelings . Although I like my tribal marks , I can never allow anyone to give my children tribal marks , ” he said .
The thespian went down memory lane with Saturday Beats as he spoke about how his parents did not support his career and he had to sponsor his education when he was in primary school . “ When I started my acting career, it was rough and tough . The first challenge I faced was from my parents who felt I did not know what I was doing with my life . I lived with them in Oyo State and they felt that I ought to go to school to study . They weren’ t pleased with me , so they backed off and I had to finance my education from Primary 5 till I got to Form 5 . When I got to Lagos, I had to fend for myself as well . I got a little place on Randle Avenue , Surulere and whenever I was going for rehearsals , I trekked from my house in Surulere to Saka Tinubu , Victoria Island . I never knew that I would become someone in life . I just went with hope and I had it in mind that if I passed out while trekking either to the venue or back home , then so be it. I got a breakthrough in 1998 and two years later , I produced my first movie , ” Afeez Owo said .
http://punchng.com/i-tried-using-sandpaper-to-get-rid-of-my-tribal-marks-afeez-owo/ Tribal marks was our identity as Africans, although it's archaic now. How many people with his type of tribal marks were sold into slavery? I am very sure none. |
Politics › Re: MKO Abiola: Why Buhari’s Declaration Doesn’t Impress Yorubas – Adebanjo by Born2Breed(f): 11:08am On Jun 09, 2018 |
6Ebisco: A chieftain of Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo says he and other leaders are not impressed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s declaration that June 12 will henceforth replace May 29 as Nigeria’s Democracy Day in honour of the late Chief Moshood Abiola.
He also stated that they were also not excited about the conferment of the award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic, GCFR, on the late businessman.
The elder statesman said this in a chat with Punch.
He said: “But if he (Buhari) has now done it because the presidential election is coming, well, he cannot bamboozle anybody with that. What we are saying is that if he wants to honour the memory of Abiola and June 12, he should implement what June 12 stands for, which is good governance and democracy.
“He should restructure the country before the elections to show his genuineness and not just be playing to the gallery. This is because all that June 12 stands for is democracy and good governance. It is not about people being killed right, left and centre and pretending that you don’t know what is happening.
“It is not people being killed every day and after three months, you now wake up and say you are beefing up security. People have been complaining about the awkwardness of the lopsided appointments of heads of security agencies since you came into office, but it was not until now that the vice president (Prof. Yemi Osinbajo) said, “Oh yes, we are going to review it” – because election is approaching.
“We are no fools in this country. He should know that many of us have not got cattle brain, we are well educated and we know what we want. Nobody can come and bamboozle us because elections are coming. It is just like he said in 2015 that he was a born-again democrat. Now, he has shown us that he is a dictator. We are not moved by it. It is a welcome idea and yes, it is a thing that ought to have been done. But that he is now doing it because elections are coming, I am not excited by that at all.”

Politics › Re: Ochereome Nnanna: "Yorubas Are Sophisticated Morons"- Vanguard Editorial Chairma by Born2Breed(f): 10:07am On Jun 09, 2018 |
contactwale: Mr. Ochereome Nnanna, Chairman Editorial Board of the Vanguard newspapers, has described the Yorubas as "sophisticated morons".
Nnanna made this assertion in his reply to a post on Facebook.
Areh Sunday, a journalist and an aide to Delta State Governor, while reacting to President Muhammadu Buhari's declaration of June 12 as Democracy day on Thursday had gone to his Facebook page to express his disappointment in Yorubas for falling for the antics of the government of the day.
He posted: "I use to think the South-West was very sophisticated. I was wrong. They are the most gullible. They fall for every poisoned carrot dangled before them"
Reacting to the post, Nnanna wrote: "Sophisticated morons, more like"
This comment would not have elicited any reaction from me but for the fact that it was coming from the Chairman of the editorial board of one of the reputable newspaper houses in the country. A man of his status is expected to conduct himself in a respectful and responsible manner consistent with his function as an opinion-molder in the society.
Each and every newspaper is incomplete without the editorial section. They (editorials) are believed to be the heart and soul of newspapers. They display the values and policies of a newspaper and influence policy decisions.
A member of editorial board is expected to be matured, experienced, intelligent and well-informed. He must rise above politics, tribal and religion partisanship. An editorial member should be able to explain all the aspect of any issue in relating with past events, presents scenario and future prospectus. This is not the case with Nnanna as seen in this circumstance.
If this is the opinion of the Chairman of the editorial board of a national newspaper about Yorubas therefore, one should not be surprised about the view and news policies of Vanguard newspapers about the race.
It is my hope that Vanguard newspapers will caution Nnanna and apologise to the Yorubas for the embarrassment he has caused them.

CastedDude: This is very shameful. Nigeria’s U-20 women national team players were forced to pack themselves in a bus and lap themselves after a two hour training in Abuja. The players are in camp in the FCT preparing ahead of the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women World Cup in August in France.
According to disappointing reports, world cup bound players said to be 30 in number are packed in a 14 passenger bus to and fro from their training ground for three months now.
The 14 seater bus was donated in 2007 by former Ondo state governor, late Olusegun Agagu. Now, eleven years after, the bus is still in action.
Football lovers and journalists are calling on the Nigeria Football Federation to acquire new buses for the women national team and save the country from the embarrassment.

fabinfos: President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday stated that he was robbed of the presidency three times after defeating his opponents.
He said this on Thursday when he hosted Nigerian artistes and Youth organisations to breaking of fast at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He, however, observed that the Nigerian constitution has provided him the opportunity to work diligently towards uplifting the quality of life of all Nigerians irrespective of their socio-political backgrounds.
Buhari pledged that his administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at creating an enabling environment for the youth to progress in different human endeavours.
“We are trying very hard to normalize situation in the country for you. I’m very pleased with the position of our constitution.
“No matter how good you are, you don’t have more than two terms and no matter how bad you are you can hardly last more than the first term. So, this generosity of the constitution I respect very much.
“It gives me the opportunity to round up having been a governor, minister, head of state in uniform and then going to the Supreme Court three times to complain about my being rigged out”, he said.
President Buhari also pledged that his administration would continue to encourage the youth to pursue their careers in meaningful disciplines to enable them become not only self-sustaining but also employers of labour in the society.
“I will continue to dedicate my time to make sure that Nigerians are enlightened on the importance of voter education because this is vital for good governance,” he added.

It was just a matter of time before Benin fell into the hands of the British. They should have been reasonable.
What angers me most is the priceless artefacts that took.
Truth be told, they'd probably be heavily under-appreciated if they remained here.
The Benin Bronze head is most likely famous because it was stolen and not for its beauty and finesse The plan was already laid down and no matter how reasonable,Benin Kingdom would have been invaded under the pretext of something else. From Jaja of Opobo, Nana of Koko....to Ghana, they were all deposed and exiled. It was a grand plan. |
