You certainly can't labor a 3gig ram phone with such workload and expect it to perform optimally. Am sure you have other RAM hungry apps installed on the device too.

Why not get a 6gig RAM device & lock the whatsapp application to memory?
That should fix it

The whatsapp is running on dual mode
The Instagram is running on Dual mode with at least 5 accounts on each
Facebook is running on dual mode
Twitter on dual app mode too with at least 3 accounts on each


And they are all active

Thing is on a normal day, WhatsApp itself also needs to be reworked.

I can't really blame MIUI entirely. Many other ppl handling WhatsApp TV do complain about this issue of WhatsApp misbehaving.

Have you tried logging in your WA on higher end devices?
Do they perform the same way? Or better than how your Redmi handles it?

It crashed totally on my tecno then.. Crashed finally!

But I've been using redmi since..

1. The 500 contacts are either stored in your phone's memory or Google contacts. You only give whatsapp permission to access it.

2. When 200 people view your post, the picture or video in that post is stored in a temporary folder in their phone, how does that make your phone hang?

3. Being in over 2 million groups has no effect on the app itself.

Surely whatsapp can't be heavier than snapchat, Facebook or Instagram.
