Education / Outrage As Chinese Museum's 'racist' Exhibits Compare Africans To Animals by bossanmayor(m): 6:19pm On Oct 12, 2017
A Chinese museum has touched the nerves of Africans online after a video was posted online showing a seemingly racist exhibition where Africans were displayed alongside wild animals.

The video, originally uploaded on Instagram by a Nigerian Edward E. Duke, showed Chinese art lovers admiring the exhibits at the Hubei Provincial Museum in Wuhan ahead of the national Golden Week holiday.

The exhibits include a photograph of a roaring lion next to an African man with the same expression; a pensive monkey next to another man; elephants and giraffes next to African children among others.

According to a local destination blog Shangaiist, the ‘This is Africa’ exhibition which started September 28 belongs to Chinese photographer Yu Huiping to “give visitors a sense of ‘primitive life’ in Africa through the interplay of humans, animals and nature.”

The photographer, who is the the vice-president of Hubei Photographers Association, is reported to be a lover of Africa and its wildlife. He titled the exhibits in question with the Chinese idiom: outward appearance follows inner reality.

The original video which was deleted after it was posted by one of the supposed visitors to the museum had the caption: “首都博物馆 the capital museum in Wuhan, China put pictures of a particular race next to wild animals why? Are they the only race to have impoverished looking.”

This follows a week of backlash of a Facebook advert by Dove showing a black model turning white after using their body wash. A screenshot of the ad went viral and several people took to twitter to criticise the beauty brand.

Dove apologised for the ad saying the image “missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully”.

The black model in the ad said it was taken out of context because the campaign was “supposed to be about all skin types deserving gentleness”.

Getting stuck in a traffic jam can be one of the most frustrating parts of travelling around a busy city.
Now engineers in China, the world's most populated country, have come up with a way to overcome the problem of getting around in traffic.
Designs for a new elevated bus has been unveiled at a tech expo in China, which will apparently be able to carry 1,200 passengers over the top of cars and let traffic to pass underneath it.

Education / The Richest 1% Of People Own Nearly Half Of The World's Wealth [how Come?] by bossanmayor(m): 10:59pm On Aug 15, 2015
Wealth amassed by the richest 1% will overtake
the amount owned by the rest of the people in
the world, according to a study by charity group
Oxfam.
The richest 1% of people will see their share of
global wealth increase to more than 50% in
2016 at the current rate of growth.
Their wealth increased from 44% in 2009 to
48% last year, said the group.
Oxfam’s report warns that the “explosion in
inequality” is holding back the fight against
global poverty.
Winnie Byanyima, executive director of Oxfam
International asked whether people really
wanted to live in a world where the 1% own
more than the rest of the people combined.
“The scale of global inequality is quite simply
staggering and despite the issues shooting up
the global agenda, the gap between the richest
and the rest is widening fast,” she said in a
statement on Monday ahead of the annual
World Economic Forum in Davos.
Of the remaining 52% of global wealth, almost
46% is owned by the rest of the richest fifth of
the world’s population, Oxfam said.
The remaining population account for just 5.5%
of global wealth and their average wealth was
$3,851 (£2,544) per adult in 2014, reports the
BBC.
That compares to an average wealth of $2.7m
per adult for the elite 1%.
Ofxam said it will push for urgent action to
stem the “rising tide of inequality”, starting
with a crackdown on tax evasion by companies.
The study comes just a day before US
President Barack Obama’s State of the Union
address, in which he is expected to call for tax
increases on the wealthy to help the middle
class.
In October, a report from banking giant Credit
Suisse also said that the richest 1% of people
own nearly half of the world’s wealth.Wealth amassed by the richest 1% will overtake

Attention everyone, a new bomb just dropped in
the rap world. Lil Wayne has finished a book in
which the rapper tells it all! He’s now trying to
sell its "Tell-All Book" to several publishing
companies, and a source revealed that in a
portion of the book, Wayne admits the
unmentionable: his girlfriend slept with Drake .
According to the report, Wayne returns to the
time he was locked up in prison. While his
protégé Drake often visited him, it was during a
visit that Drake confessed to Wayne that he had
slept with his girlfriend. But the story is a bit
more complex than that. Drake had explained
that he has slept with her before she met
Wayne! In addition, Drake had "advised" his
mentor Wayne to "” stay away from her ”.
It’s a blow to Wayne, who had spotted Drake at
the time he wasn’t famous and even had him
signed on his YMCMB label before he became
the star he is today. It seems that the rumor of
"woman thief" that Drake has is proved, after
all, who never heard the phrase "Love your girl
or Drake wil l"? Maybe Lil Wayne should have
been suspicious of the man who was singing "I
Can Take Your Girl".
Here's what Lil Wayne said "This is the type of
shit that a man never wants to find out when
he's locked up. Or, maybe so, cause only God
knows what I would have done if I wasn't
locked up right now, " Wayne writes. He also
added that his girlfriend told him that her and
Drake hooked up the day before she met
Wayne, but he didn't find out until Drake told
him during the prison visit. "As a man, honestly,
that shit hurt ... and not because it was Drake,
it could have been any man. It would've hurt
the same ," Wayne wrote.
Not surprisingly, the book publishers interested
in a package, which means you could read it
soon and completely!
