I think the new spiel about people piling on Zahra is absurd because as far as I can see the responses have been focused on their arguments and not personal in nature for the most part.

But just to clear the air with regard to why I (I'm not speaking for anyone else) won't engage with Treadway or Gerard - it's simply because I consider them unfit to engage.

One of them a few pages ago was calling people here apes unprovoked. Nobody insulted him or anything. The other one manages to weave potshots at Muslims into every post. I made the decision not to engage either one for any reason since then.

I'm happy to debate and disagree however strongly but I'll not speak with people whose baseline is disrespect or bigotry and contribute to this place becoming an online beer parlor.

Did you mean parlour ?

It's classic 'whataboutery' when people (often our own people) say that we should speak more about a country we left ages ago, rather than a country we live in, pay taxes in, and in most cases, are citizens of.

I have already voted via the post for change. I came to this country on the back of a Labour government student visa policy, and I'm happy to pay more taxes to get public services back to the way it was in 2010. In 2010, I could see my GP in a day.

Was I now? And postings in plural? Really?
I wonder what your contribution to that treasury bills thread was? I mean , if I had the time to search your posts , will I find an opinion different than any you now hold?

Please post that screenshot again so everyone can see what we are referring to and what the "shylock " is? I was holding off buying a piece of land till it was a distress sale. That was the "shylock". Lol

Sorry ,dude, I have a fiduciary responsibility to my mother to get the most bang for her buck. I make no apologies for that.

Sorry. You are being extremely hypocritical, and it’s not nice.

Just a few years ago, you saw a piece of land. In Nigeria . You wanted to buy for your mother. You had the money. The sellers wanted to sell. Your mother was happy to buy. You instructed your mother to hold fire and not buy. But wait for that same land to become a ‘distress sale’ so that the sellers will be forced to drop the price.

What does ‘distress sale’ mean?

You wanted the sellers’ children to be sent home from school for school fees, then the ‘distressed’ sellers will sell the land to you for peanuts.

You wanted the sellers to be in an accident, no money for hospital bills. Become distressed. Then sell the land to you for cheap, in their desperation.

That, my friend is not bang for buck. That, is Shylock and not nice, I dare say it’s wicked.

You even openly expressed happiness that Nigéria is in recession, because (by implication), desperate poor people will be forced to sell things on the cheap, so that you can lap it all up.

Yet, the same you will be pontificating and creating an image of uprightness.

I’m sorry. It’s not right. You can’t be a Shylock in Nigeria, and be a Lover of the poor in the UK. Can you?

The "no" was in reference to your response that implies that you didn't/don't call out or campaign against the injustices in the Nigerian immigration system. Given how passionate you are when it comes to UK policies , I would have thought that you would have a similar record ,or at least concern, when you lived in Nigeria.

If past postings on Nairaland are anything to go by, this person was almost the equivalent of the modern day Shylock.
But well, people can change sha.

Bonkers. Does this affect the birthright citizenship of a child born in this scenario to a Nigerian mother and non Nigerian father?

I have heard that the Nigerian visa is one of the most difficult to obtain. Even Bill Gates was previously denied, allegedly, on the grounds that he might overstay undecided

@missjekyll, I hope you were/are as passionate about calling out the cruel, unequal and anti-immigrant policies in the Nigerian immigration system, and that your present passion isn't due to another UK-induced Damascene conversion.

Who??
Somebody that less than 4 years ago was sitting pretty, waiting for fellow Nigerians to get into distress (maybe Ill health or starvation or no school fees or hospital bills).

Somebody that was waiting for hardworking Nigerians to get into distress so that they can sell their property below market value, to her to accumulate wealth? Nein Nein!

I really hope there has been a Damascene conversion.

What SAAS platform is that, please?
I am seriously considering learning some SAAS administration.

Awwwww, you noticed. Yes , I did change. It's been 4 years and I ve now fully grown into my skin.
Personal growth is awesome and I recommend it to everyone.

If your Buy to let bought with hardearned money is used to push the price of houses ,push up rent, worsen urban drift because young people cannot buy houses. Literally delay people's lives because they cannot get married, have kids because no space? Then I will support a heavy tax on it as a deterrent.
Some things should not be run like businesses. Housing is one of them, health is another.

It doesn't even grow the economy because nobody is doing business just buying up houses and tying up money for decades. It's the small small taxes from millions of tiny transactions that keep the economy ticking over.

Problem is, there is a very very thin line between hypocrisy & ‘I have changed’
I can imagine the uproar that will come from you, if the Nigeria government decides to impose a 70-80% tax on every single naira you have (or will) earn in profit from the Treasury Bills you purchased back in the day.
Remember those landed property you purchased? if the Enugu or Anambra or Ekiti or Ebonyi state government decides to impose an 80% tax and increase the ground rent by 150% will you applaud them?

By the way, how dare you buy lands with your money when lots of your neighbours can’t afford to buy a 20sqM plot? How dare you buy treasury bills with your hard earned money and make profits from it when mama Nkiru at Ochanja market cannot afford to buy food? How dare you buy an extra shoe with your hard earned money when papa Akinlade next door cannot afford N1,000 for typhoid & malaria test ?

Since you have changed, maybe it’s a good time to sell all that you have purchased with your hard earned money, give your state government (in nigeria) the money to distribute to people who don’t own their houses or who have no clothes or who cannot afford hospital bills.

I ll support 2 times whatever they are proposing. Millennials like me and Gen z cannot afford even 1 house and you have 2? Tax it till the pips squeak. It's a basic human need not a business opportunity

Missjekyll, you’ve really changed oh…
It’s amazing what the UK can do to someone.
A few years ago, the same you - on another thread was happy with recession (in Nigeria) because it allows you to use small money to purchase massive pieces of land. You were happy with recession because it allows you to accumulate money that you would otherwise not have accumulated.
Yet in the UK, you have now become an advocate of the poor.

I wonder what will happen if every single profit you make on your T.Bills is taxed at the same rate you are wishing for people with 2 houses to be taxed.

Is it a crime to own property? If the source of income is legit, genuine and moral? Why should Miss B be vexed that Ms C saved money, denied herself some luxuries, invested the money and purchased a Buy-to-let house?

I really want to understand the reasoning.

E be like say for where you dey, Jeremy Corbyn dey play.

Maybe you wish for the UK to become a 100% socialist economy?

Where sports is concerned, I go where the science leads me and at the moment , the IOC and world Athletics do not exclude trans women once they have been on hormonal treatment.

I note how you cringed 😬 at the thought of your teenage daughter being paired up in a room /bunk for a 3 night school trip with a ‘Jennifer’ who (untill last week was Johnie), and who still have a 7inch ‘Amu’ between the legs. You are happy that it’s all good, since ‘Jennifer’s testosterone level has been medically reduced to below 11mg/ml, not minding that ‘Jennifer’ still gets rock 🪨 hard erections. You are cool with your 14/16 year old daughter sharing a room with that person. Issorai.

If the extent of your ‘science’ is that low testosterone makes a man a woman, and high testosterone makes a woman a man then all I can say is… I sorry sorry oh….(in Femi Kuti’s voice).
You ‘follow the science’ yet you don’t know about X & Y chromosomes? You follow the science and yet, you don’t know about 🧬 genes? You follow the science? Which science Biko?

Why not? So long as she is in same weightclass and doesnt have more than the normal level of testosterone in women.

These restroom arguments are giving me a bit of a headache. What is with the restroom? Lol

I find your last point a bit vacuous

Anyone is free to describe themselves the way they see fit. No one knows you more than yourself. Why would that bother me so long as its not being done to further a crime?

Wow!!!!!
Are you for real?
So weight & testosterone level is what make ms a woman a woman.

Is this what leftist wokeism has done to you? (Well, it’s you that described yourself in that way above, not me).

Restroom: Because that is where we take off our clothes totally in the locker room before we move into the bath cubicles. Missjekyll is happy to take off all her clothes in the female locker room, in the presence of a human with huge muscles, Big, long fat d*ck who self-identifies as a woman.

Missjekyll is happy for her 16 year old female daughter to sleep on the same room (possibly share a bunk bed on a school trip) with ‘Jennifer’ (who was untill last week, Johnie and still have a 7inch d*ck) but has self-transitioned into a ‘girl’

So, according to your argument, testosterone level validates sex/gender? So if we pump Beth England, Nikita Parris, Samantha Keir, Betty Meads, Earps etc with enough testosterone, taking their testosterone levels to above 12.8mg/l then we can put them to play against Vinícius Jnr, Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Jordan Pickford and Cole Palmer etc

If we pump Coco Gauf and Swiatek with 14mg/ml of testosterone, then missjekyll will chuck them on the court with Djokovic, Nadal and Alcaraz (Afterall they have the same weight and similar testosterone levels).

As someone mentioned, I think you are just chasing clout with this your line of argument, I will be shocked to my bone marrows if you actually sincerely believe in your heart of hearts what you wrote up there.

Wow… just wow!!!!

I will ignore the fact that (for effect), you decided to have to use a prefix to describe who you are. Imagine, you. A whole you. You had to put ‘Cis’ in front of the word before it portrays who you really are.
Tyson Fury just lost a match the other day.
Deontay Wilder lost a match the other day too.

If those 2 above decide to ‘transition’ and declare themselves as women. Will you allow your daughter to get in the ring with them?

If you have a teenage daughter (Elsa) in year 9 or 10.
And then Jason in Year 11 decides to ‘transition’ into a Jennifer (using the Scotland model) you will be happy to have Elsa & ‘Jennifer’ compete against each other in football? Or in Judo? Or Rugby?

You will be happy for your daughter to share a hostel room (on an overnight school trip) with ‘Jennifer’? You will be happy for your teenage daughter to share the changing room, shower room and lockers with ‘Jennifer’?

On another note, I may now have to put ‘cis’ in front of my race, to differentiate between myself (a cis-Black man) and Mr Adjoa (a trans-black man) who was assigned White at Birth but has transitioned into a Black man.

It is called Post-study for a reason.
You need to finish your studies first. completely. kpatakpata. Then your school will forward your details to the home office that you have sucessfully completed your course. Then you can apply for the Graduate visa, aka PSW

Perhaps anti immigration is the wrong choice of words, I should have maybe said strict immigration policies. In any case I have had a look at their immigration policy and as far as I can see their proposed solutions are very similar to what the other polities are proffering. See below:

https://www.reformparty.uk/immigration

You need to also remember that we are all different and are at different stages of our life journey. What might appear important to you might rank low in my list of priorities. I will very gladly vote Labour but I’m strongly against their proposed VAT on independent school tuition fees, Education is not taxed anywhere in Europe but due to Brexit, labour is now stealthy trying to impose tax on education. I will rather spoil my ballot paper than vote for that policy, I also have a young female child and I cannot vote a party that refuses to pledge to protect safe spaces for women and girls.

I have not made up my mind on which party to vote but Labour is definitely out of the question for me, based on the issues I have highlighted. I know Starmer will be our next PM with or without my vote, however I’m not prepared to aid that process. I’m also in Scotland and have the additional dilemma of SNP but those ones have completely lost their sense of direction and it’s now a case of the blind leading the blind.

If you feel dubious about Starmer (and UK Labour Party) unable to define what/who a woman is. If you feel dubious that a leading figure of a party thinks that a woman can have a p*nis. I understand your dilemma, having Nicola Sturgeon and Flynn and etc as leaders. Even Kate Forbes that somehow stood by what she believed in now is confused.
You start considering some of these things and you end up thinking... perhaps the Tories are not as scum as labour voters potray them.

After reading the warnings about the issues Nigerian students are going through in the UK at the moment is it advisable to go to the UK, it's the biggest opportunity I have recieved.

My current financial situation is such that I don't even have the Visa fees and NHS fees due to exchange rate, can anyone advice or assist me.

You were promised by the Government? Which government? The outgoing UK Conservative UK Government? The incoming UK Labour Government or the high performing Nigeria APC Government?

If you are able to provide an answer to my question, hand on heart I promise I will advice/assist you.

You can still watch in on catch up. It will tell you a lot about those two men.

Junior Doctors in the NHS are asking for a 35% pay rise.
Starmer: We will negotiate with them.

Really? What EXACTLY will you do differently?

On Immigration (legal immigration ohh):
Guess what the shocker was? Starmer accused Rishi of being THE MOST LIBERAL PRIME MINISTER. It means Starmer is not happy with the Care visas and Student/dependant visas that the Tories (read: Boris Johnson) introduced after Covid.

If Starmer described Rishi as THE MOST LIBERAL PM (and i am quoting Starmer verbatim, I ask anyone doubting to fact-check me) when it comes to Legal Migration, that means the Tories are the party of choice for LEGAL migrants. No?

As I have said Benefits are [largely] for the less privileged, if your company pays annual bonus to it's staff as a form of company benefit, if you want to assume that everybody working in that company are less privileged, you're welcome.

There is no harm (or shame) in accepting that you somehow conflate the term ’Benefits’ with ‘Universal Credit’.

There is no shame in admitting that you have been enlightened about the FACT that ‘Benefits’ are not for the ‘less privileged’.

Take the knowledge. Use it. Or store it.
And when you (eventually) qualify for benefits (such as 30-hour ‘free’ school hours) for your 2-year old, utilize. It takes nothing away from you, and it’s not because you haven’t set your ambitions (and aspirations) high enough. It’s because that is your entitlement.

Thank you.

It’s a misconception to assume that the term ‘benefits’ is for poor and underprivileged people. Far from it!
30 hour childcare is definitely not for ‘people who want to receive rather than give’.
Refusing to receive the benefits that rightly belongs to you is like refusing a £200 John Lewis voucher from your landlord (on the anniversary of your annual rent contract renewal). Oga landlord is already screwing you badly (with rent hikes etc). You now refuse the ‘gift’ from the landlord, because you believe gifts from landlord is only for underprivileged people?
Nah… not at all.

To me there’s no point claiming child benefit if your income is above the £80K threshold (previously £60K) as you would need to repay everything through self assessment at the end of the tax year. However, if the wife/husband is a stay at home parent, they can still get national insurance credits for a minimum of 12 years depending on how many children you have. A lot of people claim child benefit to protect their pension credits but opt out of actually receiving the weekly payments to avoid self assessment.

Another reason why the argument by @Viruses isn’t factual.

For those that have been clamouring for benefits/public funds, this is a wake up call. Even when you become a citizen, you might not still get it. Benefits are for the less privileged in the society. People taking advantage of it make themselves less privileged, do you want to do the same or take control of your finances? The earlier you remove your mind, the better.

When it comes to giving and receiving, I'd rather be on the giving end than the receiving end.

The bolded is CATEGORICALLY untrue.
‘People taking advantage of benefits make themselves less privileged’ Really? That’s bunkum mate.

Do you know the salary of an Associate Professor? Senior Lecturer? Postdoctoral Researcher?
Do you know that the salary of a Band 8a nurse or radiolograher or Biomedical scientist is less than 50k pa?

Are these folks above ‘less privileged’??

Your assumption appear to conflate BENEFITS with UNIVERSAL CREDIT.

So in your postulation, Tax Credits (as mentioned by Lexusgs430 and Zahrah29 is for ‘less privileged’?

a) if you're able to buy it any post office no problem. But if you can't get it, there's a guy standing in NHC that sells it. You may end up paying extra £3 on each item.

b) only One self addressed envelope ✉️ is enough for the family. They will put your collection slips in the same envelope which will be use to send your passport with wife own.

c) other thing to sort out is printing the application form, appointment slip, payment slip, going with photocopy of your passport, NIN.
Lastly after Una don finish the capturing, make sure U take photo of the collection slip because they won't give you the hard copy.

Enjoy the comedy film tomorrow and feel the heat from 9ja. Mak sure U reach there before 9am so U don't chop breakfast

This UK ehnnn e get as e be.

You are happy that 15 year old white teenage murderers were put in jail for life, yet the same you is arguing that a brown teenage terrorist (of the same age) was ‘only just a baby’.

You find people who are so engrossed in their echo chamber that anything outside of their set of beliefs means the other person is wrong.
You find people who are so engrossed in reading the Guardian that even if the Telegraph, or the Daily Mail says we are in 2024, they will not believe, because it’s the Daily mail, that said so.

I honestly think it’s hypocritical.
