Didn't know this, thanks although I notice it's not from Govt website. That said, my driving instructors never had a problem with me driving with my 9ja licence to meet-up with them for mock tests, I guess they're weren't informed as well.

If I may ask.
Your route was?
Nigeria Licence - (Driving Test) - Full UK Licence?

You never applied for, and obtained a UK provisional licence?

Hello,

I need your advice as an international student. A few weeks ago, I applied for a provisional license, and as part of the verification process, I was asked to send my BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) card along with the application. I have received my provisional driver's license, but I still haven't received my BRP card. Despite my efforts to contact both Royal Mail and DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency), I haven't received any helpful information.

Could you please advise me on how to resolve this issue? What is the process for applying for a replacement BRP card or what steps do I need to take?

Did you send a self-addressed, signed for/special delivery for the return of your BRP?

Don’t worry too much. Your BRP may not have been lost. Just be patient, small.

Good morning everyone.
Please I need urgent answers to these question.
My boyfriend who has a visitor visa to Uk was denied boarding by Royal air maroc official because his return ticket is from Turkish airline.
As per policies, I want to be believe all airlines are independent and royal air has no business with his return ticket.
I am so pained, frustrated and confused.
What can I do?

Ask your boyfriend to tell you the real reason(s) he was denied boarding.
Airlines will only want to see if he has a valid visa/entry clearance for his final destination. E no concern Air Maroc which airline him wan use for him return trip.

Well, at least from my personal experience.

My questions plenty small

1) please which of these app is the best app for preparing for the driving test

2) if i invite a friend from nigeria for my graduation and he elopes what will happen?

3) how exactly does the gov know the right amount of tax to debit from our salary monthly?
I know its very easy to determine how much tax one is to pay monthly provided ones annual income is known.
But what about someone who just started a job and the monthly income is not static, and such person has not even used a year yet. How then did the gov know exactly the right amount that they are debiting monthly?

4) if someone works two job, will the two wages be taxed separately or the taxes for the two jobs will be taken from the wage of one of the jobs

5) i noticed that most jobs ask for driver license and even if your role does not concern care they still put DL license as requirements why? Does project manager want to be going shopping for CEO ni?

6) i know that the requirement for COS is proof of english, someone was telling me that companies here in uk dont like accepting transcript or waiver from your uni in nigeria that it is either ielts or ecctis verification.

And this got me confused, afterall the company should know that i scaled through english test before even being accepted to run a masters degree in uk, so why cant they use my nigerian bsc transcript or uk msc transcript or CAS as proof of english proficiency, why must it be ecctis rating or ielts, or could the person who told me this info be blatantly wrong?

2. When you invite a friend from Nigeria for your graduation, they are assessed on the merit of their application (and risked-assessed based on that). The UK is very unlikely going to issue a visa to your friend who is capable of ‘elopes’. (I think your use of the word is improper in this context, but that na talk for another day). It is the reason why your friend who is single, earning less than £50 per month, owns no businesses and with zero history of international travel is likely to be denied in the first place.

3. Ever heard the word estimate / forecast? They will use a forecast and deduct. End of tax year, if they deducted too much, they refund you. If they deducted too little, they send you later to pay the balance.

4. Ever heard of HMRC Starter checklist?
See page 2 of the checklist. I have attached a screenshot for you to see.

5. It’s not exactly true to say ‘most jobs ask for DL’. Maybe most of the jobs for which you are qualified and looking for are asking for DL. If they do, it’s because it’s required.
A Project Manager working for HS2 (for example) may be required to travel to site where public transport is not readily available.

What can one do if TLS returns passport without decision mail from UKVI? Passport is yet to be received.

Decision email is usually pretty standard, doesn’t tell you whether or not visa has been issued.

What is important is whether or not there is visa vignette in the passport.

Wait and receive the passport. The real decision will be there.

You are trying to sound smart but you are not. Pre-approved CC go through the same requirements as AMEX. If you are pre-approved on other CC, most definitely you will be approved on AMEX.

The only issue most people get declined is if they try to play smart by quoting income more than they are getting or usual errors of not being visible or have any credit history but you are making it look as if we are deceiving them into clicking the referral links to get them deliberately declined while we get rewarded ...nonsense.

I got referred from here and only makes sense I give back and help others.

Ordinarily, I will leave you to bask in your ITK. Problem is, a lot of people who seek to get good recommendations & advise on this thread could be misled, by you.

To every newcomer wanting to apply for a Credit Card (if you must):
Instead of jumping and clicking on referral links straight up, please use online tools to check cards that you are pre-approved for. These checks do not leave any ‘hard’ footprints on your credit file. And like I mentioned previously, once you have a ‘pre-approved’ status for a card & you apply, you are 99.99999999% sure of getting approved.
The online tools also show you % likelihood of getting other cards.
My advice:
On the flipside, a first timer simply jumping on a referral link (because of the glamour of Avios points) could get rejected, leaves a hard search on their credit history and makes it MORE difficult to get credit facilities.

Neat trick: if AFTER using the online tools and you are ‘pre-approved’ for AMEX, then, you are free to now come back here and click on bigtt76 (and others’) referral link.

I choose to ignore that bit where you resorted to insults. Afterall, I am a grown up, and can only vouch for myself that I am. Don’t know about you.

Don't mind that one. Referral links work exactly as you've described it. The pre-approved mentioned still depends on having good score which is not different from the AMEX. You get approved based on your situation

Surprises me the sort of comprehension some people have.
Someone used a referral link, and applied for AmEX credit card. And was rejected. That someone is advised to go for pre-approved cards to be near certain of eligibility before applying, rather than blindly clicking on referral links and getting rejected.
If that is not a good advise, then I don’t know what is.

But well comprehension is hard.

Overthinker:
Good evening people, is it advisable for a family of 4 to relocate with their kids instantly or should they leave the kids back at first and come over to get to know about life here? people talk about school commitments and how both parents can't attend that and also work, dropping of kids at school and picking them also. Is it something that can be managed or do they take their time before the kids come join them

Several factors to consider.
Ages if the children.
Visa type (you didn’t mention if both parents are working or will be working. Or if there is a student visa involved.

If you are on a workwr visa, you need to consider if it’s an A-list sponsor or just some mediocre sponsor who will ‘bring you’ to the UK and then decide to put you an a queue for training and not pay you for >1 month.

Do you have plenty plenty money to spend should things not go on as expected within your 1st 3 months (for any reason)?

Etc….

Curious about this, What interest does a referral link proffer ?. you get a referral point bonus only if the person gets approved. and they also get points as well.

Also, if they apply themselves, they get fewer points viz applying with a referral, so how does it not benefit both parties ?.

Context bro. Context.
If you had taken time to read the original post, and what I was responding to, you would have understood.

‘Also, if they apply themselves, they get fewer points…’ while that sounds right, the crux of my message was: Do not just jump on the bandwagon & use a referral link to apply for a credit card. If you apply , and you are refused, it damages your credit records/scores.

If you had read more, you would have seen where I suggested that newbies should use comparison websites to see cards that they are Pre-approved to get. 99.9999999% of the time, pre approval means acceptance.

@ bigtt76 & Solumtoya,
Please guys, with Experian score of 872 will I be approved for Amex? I tried to check my eligibility on Amex site but it didn't allow me input my Nigerian address. I have been here for 5 months. On the electoral register already but no DD for any expenses yet.

Calm. Down.
Why do you badly need a credit card?
Scroll through the thread. You will see links of comparison sites that allow you to enter your details and check your eligibility. These sites can actually show you the cards that you have been pre-approved for. Apply for one of those pre-approved ones. Then begin the journey. Small small.
For now, you may want to ignore people dropping their referral links (I mean, ignore the referral links, not the people). Trust me, those referral links are for their own interests, not yours (in the first instance).

You didn't make any mistake ..... Tier 2 allows you to work and be paid immediately. It’s just that currently the situation on ground has been abused and has several issues.

I know one or two carer who worked and were paid for day 1 and were paid by end of month so this fault is your employer because on Facebook you see some going for months with no shifts of stories here and there from employer

I know someone 5 months now... only 2 hours a week shift ...that can'teven cover food not to talk of rent . So even with best planning . How can someone have planned for that

Imagine. 5 Months!!!!
Do you know what will happen if that person comes on this thread to seek help?
Some very helpful individual will come and say…
“ you mean you came to the UK without having enough money to take of yourself for 7 months..” Bla bla bla…

And the person(s) will even go the whole distance of blaming the victim for not having enough buffer or planning well.

Do not allow some very sanctimonious humans on this thread to gaslight you.
You did nothing wrong. You did not make any mistake. You trusted the process. You believed that the anyhowness in Nigeria remains in Nigeria. Never in your wildest imagination did you think that in the UK, an employer will delay your pay for over a month, for any reason.

It’s the company that sponsored you that is the problem, not you.

It was not a mistake. Maybe a learning curve, but definitely not a mistake. There are bullies everywhere, even on this thread. They may want to gaslight & bully you, using different kinds of words and sometimes outrightly disparaging statements and phrases. Give them no heed.

justwise:

You mean you came to the UK with only one month rent money?

Call him to get some money, family, friends etc .. while you keep applying for job here.

Speak to your landlord/agent etc to see if you are allowed to defer on your rent.

Ask your employer to help you with some money for the rent while they take it off your pay when you start working.

I agree 100% with @Solumtoya that this response is 'Privileged Opinion'. It is possible there is some sense in what Justwise was saying, but the way it was put across is just not wise (my opinion).

Granted, Justwise has done some fantastic work on nairaland but sometines his responses (like this one) is'nt fair. I think Justwise conflated the financial requirements for STUDENTS (Tier-4) with that of workers (Tier-2).

As someone who has worked (as admin) in a firm that issues CoS, I know for a fact that we have the choice of either selecting that we will make maintenance funds available to the worker we are sponsoring, or we could tick NO. In the latter scenario, the worker is responsible for keeping their PoF in a bank for 28 days to show that they have money. There is a reason why the maintenance PoF for WORK visa is different from STUDENT visa. This is because for WORK visa, the worker is expected to be paid (IN FULL) from date of commencement of 'Work' (I put work in " " here becasue onboarding/induction/training is considered as Work.

It makes sense for a student arriving to have some 'buffer' of more than a month (well, that would already have been submitted in PoF anyway). But for a worker, 1 month is enough, as the worker is expected to receive their first salary not more than 1 month of arrival... This is common sense.

References:
https://www.gov.uk/health-care-worker-visa/how-much-it-costs

The first screenshot is part of the CoS application for a worker where the sponsoring company is agreeing that maintenance funds will be available for the worker. In this screenshot, we ticked YES. It means the worker is not expected to show any PoF.
If we ticked NO, then the conditions in the second screenshot must be met by the worker.

Someone was given a positive STi result by the GP and referred to sexual health clinic

Gets there and says she just can’t figure out how that was possible. Been married for some years and haven’t been anywhere, fairly certain Oga wasn’t playing away match. Requested for repeat test. Well, result from sexual health came back negative for all STis

I would think carefully…
There is no such thing given by the Lab (or GP) as STI-positive.

The lab (GP) result will clearly state what is the causal organism. Infact the labs may state the method and or equipment used to arrive at that result.

Additionally, it doesn’t take someone’s husband to play away match to get a UTI - a UTI can be an STI.

Finally, the You said the person is ‘fairly certain’ Oga has not played at Old Trafford. That leaves the slight possibility that Oga may have played in a Sunday league team.
….. I would be cautious in going down the legal route. I would demand explanation from the GP. I would make sure I clearly get a ‘sorry we made a mistake’ or at least I get a non-reasonable explanation before I sue.

We are doing a massive decluttering of our house.
We have 3 Large Ghana-must-Go bags containing our used clothes . These clothes still have a lot of life in them- some are still with tags...
I have put them in 3 Ghana must go baggs, and each of them weigh 25Kg.

If I want to ship them to Nigeria (It will be useful for Internally displaced persons in my state). Does anyone have any recommendations? Shipping them to Abuja?

Long story but the work was assumed poorly done. So extension was sought and granted. But the catch was we didn't realise that extension would be for a longer period past the visa validity.

The school then change the status to part-time from fulltime.

Probably not an ‘assumption’.
Probably work was really poorly & haphazardly done.

Advice to students: When you are on Tier-4 visa, your school work should be the main thing. Any other side ‘hustle’ should be secondary.

I cum in peace.
