The Greek Symbol “Lambda”

Lambda was selected as a symbol by the Gay Activists Alliance of New York in the 1950s and was declared the international symbol for gay and lesbian rights by the International Gay Rights Congress in 1974. It’s unclear how exactly lambda was adopted by the LGBT community or what it actually means but some popular theories include: the charged energy of the gay and lesbian rights movement (since lambda symbolizes “energy” in chemistry and physics), the Roman interpretation meaning “the light of knowledge shining into the darkness of ignorance,” or “the notion of being on different wavelengths when it comes to sex and sexuality.” There’s also this idea kicking around that lambda appeared on the shields of Spartan and/or Theban warriors in ancient Greece. The Thebes version is more popular because, as legend has it, the city-state organized the Theban Army from groups of idealized lovers, which made them exceptionally fierce and dedicated soldiers–though eventually the army was completely decimated by King Philip II, the father of Alexander the Great. Lending credence to this theory is the fact that the 1962 version of “300” depicted soldiers with lambdas on their shields. I never saw the 2006 version so someone else will have to confirm or deny the perpetuity of lambda in that whole situation.

Mavin Boss, Don Jazzy was not happy about Olamide’s reaction to Reekado Banks winning the Next Rated Award. This was after Olamide stepped on stage to slam HipTv for not giving the award to his protege Lil Kesh.
Don Jazzy gave a lengthy speech on why he doesn’t like Awards in the first instance then concluded by saying that if Olamide wanted the car given to Reekado Banks he can come and pick it as he already promised the Katapot singer a car.

Reports have been swirling about Nick Gordon’s alleged abusive relationship with Bobbi Kristina Brown ever since police launched a criminal investigation into Gordon over suspicions that he attacked Bobbi shortly before she was found face down in her bathtub last month. Now details have emerged about Gordon’s alleged attack.

As previously reported, sources say that friends of the couple knew their relationship was violent and rumor has it that Gordon attacked Bobbi around an hour before the near-drowning incident that has left her in a coma. Police launched an investigation into Gordon’s involvement in Bobbi’s condition after they found injuries on her body.

According to WSB-TV Atlanta, the injuries that police found were on Bobbi’s face and mouth. Police are also investigating suspected drugs in Bobbi’s Roswell, Georgia, home.

Although the news is damaging to Gordon, the police investigation isn’t over and there’s no report of evidence being found to prove that Gordon did attack his girlfriend. However, considering that Gordon previously threatened the Houston family with violence, he’s already coming into the investigation with a tarnished image.

Portuguese footballer Eusebio, widely acknowledged as one of the game’s greatest ever players, has died aged 71.
Eusebio da Silva Ferreira was born in Mozambique before moving to Lisbon in his late teens to join Benfica from his local club.
On the international stage, Eusebio made his name as a fearsome striker for Portugal at the 1966 World Cup, where he was the top-scorer with nine goals, helping his adopted country finish third. 
He won the European Cup with Benfica in 1962 and was named European Footballer of the Year in 1965.
Nicknamed the Black Panther in Portugal, across his career, Eusebio scored 733 goals in 745 competitive games.
The Portuguese sports daily A'Bola said Eusebio had died of a cardiac arrest in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A spokesman for Benfica has confirmed of the death but did not provide any details.
"It's a very sad day for all of us," the spokesperson said.
He had been in poor health for some time and was taken to hospital during Euro 2012 after suffering a heart scare in Poland.
Benfica fans will now be offered the chance to pay their final respects to the player at the Estadio da Luz later on Sunday.
"Eusebio's body will be brought to the stadium later today and all fans will be able to say goodbye," the spokesman said.

Chelsea's Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho said that Eusebio would be amongst the greats if he was playing in the current era, calling him a “landmark for football”.
“He was one of the great figures of Portugal,” Mourinho told Portuguese state broadcaster RTP
“Eusebio stands for Portugal and the Portuguese, he was a very important person. We all know what he means for football and especially for Portuguese football. Eusebio was an important landmark for football, in terms of values, principles and feeling even after finishing his career.
“Eusebio was from a completely different generation and if you tried to make parallels with football today, he would be at the level of what are the greatest footballers. Today if he was 20 or 30 it would be an amazing thing.”
