So igbo people have this thing called ''Iju ese''. it means to make research about the full profile of your prospective spouse. It is not gender based, so either the man or the woman can do Iju-ese about their potential spouse.

You cannot meet a girl on facebook, and decide that you want to marry her. Your knowledge of each other is not that deep and strong. Even if you want to undergo Iju-ese, you guys dont have any mutual friends that can attest to the morality and suitability of your prospective spouse.

Everything you know about your potential spouse should not be things he/she told you, but something that can be verified by you and other third parties you trust, especially those who have your best interest in their heart (eg family relatives).

This is why I consider referral the best method for meeting a potential spouse. Statistically, such marriage last. The lack of research is how many people unknowingly marry demons, repentant akunna, and folks with dirty past.

You are putting the cart before the horse. before you give someone the tag of fiance/fiancee, you must have undergone series of due process, and Iju-ese is amongst the first (then genotype test, religious compatibility, etc).

A heavily pregnant widow accused of shoplifting has been banished from Ugbema community in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.

It was gathered that community elders reportedly ordered the expulsion of the woman who recently lost her husband.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman had allegedly been stealing small items from shops to feed herself, her young son, and her unborn baby.

Her luck ran out on Saturday, October 10, 2025 when local youths apprehended her and subjected her to public punishment under the scorching sun.

Sources claim that community elders later directed the youths to escort her out of the area as punishment for her actions.

Many residents have condemned the action, stressing that the woman needs assistance, not humiliation, given her condition.
