Prince Abubakar Audu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the just concluded Kogi state election which was declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, reportedly died, on Sunday, 22nd November, 2015. Here is a brief biography of the deceased foremost Kogi politician that you need to know.

Prince Abubakar Audu, was the first Executive Governor of Kogi State was born on 27th of  October 1947, to the family of his Royal Highness, the late Pa Audu Oyidi, Orego Atta of Igala Land and the paramount ruler of Ogbonicha-Alloma in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Prince Abubakar Audu (born 1947) was twice the Governor of Kogi state. His first tenure was from January 1992 until November 1993 and the second from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2003.

He began his career as a bank worker, later proceeded to London from 1975-1978 where he studied banking and personnel management, obtaining professional qualification as a certified secretary, and as a Fellow of the Association of International Accountants of London, as well as fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Industrial Administration of Nigeria.

Late Audu’s banking career lasted for a total of 25 years, which he spent with First Bank – formerly known and Standard Bank.

He made history as the first training officer of African descent and also as one of the first black senior management staff of Standard Chartered Bank in London and New York.
In 1991, he was appointed Executive Director of FSB International Bank PLC.

He joined public service in 1986 when we has appointed as Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning in the Old Benue state. He served in this capacity until 1988 when the cabinet was dissolved.

He contested on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC) and won the election held in November, 1991.

He was subsequently sworn in as the first executive governor of Kogi state in January 1992.

In 1998, democracy was again re-introduced and Audu, now with the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), was elected again with over 700,000 votes while his opponent hardly recorded 50% of the vote cast. He was sworn in on 29 May 1999 as the 2nd Executive Governor of Kogi State.

The six-year-old marriage between Sunday Adelakun and his wife Rashida has been dissolved at an Ile-Ife customary court over pride and fornication.

Chief Abioye Olatunbosun, the President of the court said that in his judgment, the marriage should be dissolved but the dowry not refunded.

Rashida, the defendant has been awarded custody of the children and advised to take them to government hospital whenever any of them fell sick.

The President of the court also ordered that the plaintiff should pay N3, 000 every month per child for the children’s upkeep and take full responsibility of their education.

The court advised both parties to give peace a chance and desist from causing trouble henceforth.

The husband, had on Nov 2, urged the court to dissolve the union for alleged fornication, uncooperative attitude, pride and constant fighting.

He told the court that they got married in 2009 and the marriage was blessed with two children namely: Seyi Adelakun, 5, and Imole Adelakun, 11 months.

“My wife is fond of fornication, giving me no rest of mind since we got married and has no courtesy or respect for me and my family.

“I am tired of her, there was a time her boyfriend attacked me. He would have killed me, if not God, to the extent that I was hospitalized.

“If I delay the divorce, she would eventually kill me and marry her concubine, the earlier the better for the safety of my life,” he said.

Good day guys in the house. I just want to use this forum to share my experience with you. I just ended my 1 year+ relationship because of what am about to tell you. The Controller-General of Prisons, Dr. Peter Ekpendu has met with members of the National Association of Nigerian Prisons Service Ration and Gas contractors over their threat to suspend food and gas supply to prison inmates.

The contractors had in a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari said they would stop supplying food to the prisons due to the inability of the Nigerian Prisons Service to settle their outstanding bills amounting to billions of naira.



But a statement by the Prison Service Public Relations Officer, Francis Enobore on Wednesday in Abuja said the contractors during the meeting assured the CG of continued and constant supply of food and gas to prison formations nationwide.

It stated that the association’s  President, Chief Samuel  Sanni expressed confidence in the ability of the prisons management  to quickly come to their rescue and settle the debts owed the contractors.

The NPS management therefore assured prison inmates of constant supply of food and gas.

The statement read in part, “Prison inmates across the country have been reassured of continued and constant supply of food and gas.

“This followed an emergency meeting convened by the Controller-General of Prisons, Dr. Peter Ekpendu with members of the National Association of Nigerian Prisons Service Ration and Gas contractors who had earlier issued a threat to stop food and gas supply to prison inmates.

“At the end of the meeting, the contractors unanimously pledged to an uninterrupted supply of food and gas to all the prisons in the country based on the assurances of the CGP that the Federal Government was giving the issues serious consideration.”

UMUAHIA—OHANEZE Youth Council has called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase to ensure a thorough investigate into the alleged attack on the Deputy Senate President, Dr. Ike Ekweremadu .
In a press statement issued in Umuahia Wednesday, the Council raised the alarm that “the highest Igbo political office holder is being hunted for elimination”.

Signed by the Council’s National President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Secretary, Okwu Nnabuike, the group challenged the Inspector General of Police to fish out those behind the evil plot to kill Ekweremadu.
Warning that killing of the deputy senate president portends danger for the country, OYC said,”should anything happen to Ekweremadu, Nigeria will not remain the same again”.

According to them, any harm on Ekweremadu amounted to a declaration of war against Ndigbo which must be resisted at all cost.
The statement said the Ohaneze Youths were prepared to provide security for the deputy senate president to ensure his safety.
“We are ready to stake our lives to ensure the safety of Ekweremadu. If those who opposed his emergence as Deputy Senate President now want to come after his life they will still fail just as they failed to stop his ascendancy”, the Igbo youths said.
The group also asked the Federal Government to tell Nigerians the real owners of REMITA, the company fingered for the alleged N25 billion fraud in the Treasury Single Account(TSA) controversy.

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Solomon Arase, said police were aware of plans by some politicians in Kogi to clothe thugs in police uniform during the governorship election in Kogi on Saturday.

Arase, who made the disclosure on Tuesday in Lokoja, at a stakeholders’ forum, said that the intention of the perpetrators was to disrupt the election and cause mayhem.

He described the action of those behind the act as “wrong and wasteful investment.”

According to him, measures have been taken to properly identify 12, 000 policemen that will be on duty during the election.
“We intend to dominate security space that day; if you want to test our strength, have a rethink,’’ he said.

Arase said that 6,000 out of the 12, 000 policemen who would be on election duty would be drawn from police formations close to Kogi.

He said that one unit of mobile policemen would be deployed to each of the 21 local government areas in the state ‘’for effective policing’’.

He said that the men and officers will be backed up by armour personnel carriers, vehicles and other security apparatuses, adding that restriction of movement would be strictly enforced.

The police boss also said that police would be supported by the military, Civil Defence Corps, Immigration, Customs and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) to provide effective security during the poll.

He urged people in the state to feel free to come out and vote for candidate of their choice, saying a level playing-ground would be provided for all stakeholders.

On the safety of electoral officials, Arase said that nobody would be allowed to threaten or intimidate them.

He said that Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 8, Mr Lawal Tanko, and three commissioners of police would be deployed to coordinate police activities before, during and after the election.
