I'm not in any support of any political party. But I believe that this correct government is in the right direction by fishing out those that loot the country's money. It's when all the money looted have been recovered that you will start seeing the progress they have made so far

Politics › The Strong Men Behind Buhari (Photos) by braimeddy(op): 8:12am On Jan 09, 2016
As one who presides over the most populous country in Africa, President Muhammadu Buhari is no doubt an influential man. It is not out of place that millions of people within and outside the country might want to get his attention for one favour or the other. Expectedly, not many people will get that needed access to him.

There are, however, a few individuals who are very close to the President and, hence, wield huge influence in their own rights. These are apart from members of his immediate family that consists of the First Lady (sorry, the President’s wife), Hajia Aisha Buhari, and the children.

As far as the Buhari Presidency is concerned, one of the men that can be said to be very close to the President so far is Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who currently supervises the nation’s economy. Osinbajo is always at the service of the President. He represents him very often both within and outside the country. The relationship between the two top government officials so far is very cordial. In fact, I don’t think Osinbajo’s loyalty to the President is to be questioned.

Another man that is very close to the President is his Chief of Staff, Abba Kyari. The closeness may be due to the position he currently occupies, but the lesson must not be lost that something must have qualified him for that appointment.

Since his assumption of office, Kyari, who has a trademark of always wearing white ‘agbada’ and wine cap, has not been far from the President. He is in charge of arranging the President’s day-to-day activities. Despite that Kyari’s office is a bit far from the President’s (about 200metres), the COS can trek that distance to and fro more than six times in a day either to consult with Buhari or attend one meeting or the other.

While making his way to the President’s office or back to his office, he will pass through the corridor of the Briefing Room, where journalists always hang out to search for scoops. No matter how busy he is, he will pause a bit to crack jokes with the reporters and quickly leave as fast as possible. Kyari is no doubt one of the President’s men. There is no way those who wield influence in the Villa for now will be identified without mentioning Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State. I can even state without fear of contradiction that he is so far the most frequent state governor in the Villa. If he is not visiting the President, El-Rufai will be consulting with Vice President Osinbajo. I am aware that he was instrumental to some of the appointments so far made by the President. He wields big influence that is not commensurate to his small stature.

Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State also wields enormous influence in the Villa. He is also a regular visitor, coming closely behind El-Rufai. Most times, after consulting with Buhari, Oshiomhole will brief State House correspondents. His interviews had always been focusing on how officials of the last administration allegedly stole the nation blind.

Since the wind of change that blew through the Villa during the last presidential election, many other things have changed. The change permeated through the seat of power from who occupies the President’s seat to ministers and even Villa guests. The hitherto known faces have given way for the new ones.

By the time Buhari inaugurated his cabinet, most of his 36 ministers are those who are entering the Villa for the first time. A few of them who had been here before had either done so because of the public offices they occupied before or because they belonged to the then-ruling Peoples Democratic Party before they parted ways with others under that green-white-red umbrella.

There is, however, someone in the present cabinet that keeps reminding us of one of the ministers that served under former President Goodluck Jonathan. That person is the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun. She keeps reminding us of Jonathan’s Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson.

Both ladies look alike in stature, and also in the way they walk and talk (with foreign accent). Incidentally, both of them are Yoruba ladies, though from different states. While Johnson is from Ondo State, Adeosun is from Ogun State.

Unlike her predecessor in office, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, whose trademark is her headgear that she places delicately on her head as if it will fall down with a slight push, Adeosun rarely tie headgears. In fact, I heard her telling one of her female colleagues recently that she resorted to holding her headgear after many failed attempts to tie it correctly. The female minister collected the headgear from her, carefully folded it and placed it on her (Adeosun’s ) shoulder. Those who specialise in tying headgears for fees may find a good business in her.

Since their inauguration, Adeosun had the first opportunity to address State House correspondents on Tuesday, albeit, briefly. It was at the press conference addressed by the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, shortly after a closed-door meeting she had with Buhari. The lot fell on Adeosun to introduce Lagarde to journalists at the Briefing Room of the Council Chamber.

The following day, however, she had more time to spend with reporters. She had the opportunity of briefing journalists of the outcome of the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Buhari. The venue was the same. She was introduced by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
In my opinion, these are the prominent people mentioned above that can really make "CHANGE" to take its effectiveness.

Just compare the thread u created and the other thread you will see a lot of differences. If I were a mod I've no option that to move the other op's thread to fp instead of urs even tho u created the thread first. You can clearly see that urs doesn't have source of where u got the link from and the other thread have more pix dan urs. So try to understand why d mod prefer d other thread than yours.

Crime › Truck Driver Crushes Traders To Death, Flees (Photo) by braimeddy(op): 7:32am On Jan 08, 2016
https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/accident-scene.jpg
Scene of the accident
No fewer than three traders were killed on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after a truck crashed into a van loaded with pepper.

We learnt that the van with number plate, ZUR901XA, was conveying the traders inward Lagos State when the truck rammed into it in the Warewa area of Ogun State, killing the three traders on the spot.

The driver of the van was said to have been injured in the crash which happened around 3am on Wednesday while the truck driver fled the scene.

It was gathered that the remains of the deceased, whose names had yet to be ascertained, were later taken away by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Command, while the van’s driver was rushed to a hospital.

An eyewitness, Seye Adeleke, said he saw three bodies on the road, adding that the driver of the van was unconscious.

He said, “I was coming from Ibadan around 5am when I saw pepper on the road. Three lifeless bodies were also lying on the road. A man I met there said they were traders and that they were crushed by a truck. The van driver was bleeding profusely.”

A member of a vigilance group in the area, who identified himself only as Bayo, said he was close to the expressway when he heard the sound of the crash. He said the truck driver waited for a moment, but sped off before he could cross to the side of the road where the accident occurred.

“I shone torch to get the truck’s number plate, but I did not succeed. All the four passengers in that van were males. Only the driver is alive and he was seriously injured. Some FRSC officials later came to pack their corpses and take the driver to a hospital,” he said.

The Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC, H.U. Omeje, confirmed the accident and urged motorists to be cautious while driving.

He said, “At about 3.30am, our men got information of a crash involving a Mitsubishi pickup with number plate, ZUR 901 XA. Four people were involved. Three died instantly while the only survivor sustained injuries.”

Crime › B’haram: US Donates $11m Armoured Carriers To Military(photos) by braimeddy(op): 8:15pm On Jan 07, 2016
https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/The-resisitant-Vehicles.-Credit-Sodiq-Adelakun.jpg
As part of efforts to defeat Boko Haram, the United States on Thursday donated 24 Mine-Resistant Armor-Protected vehicles valued at $11 million to the military.

The U.S. government donated the armored vehicles through the Excess Defense Articles Programme, according to a statement from the US embassy Information Office, adding that Nigeria is in the process of receiving an additional eight MRAPs valued at approximately $7.4 million.

It stated that the military arranged for transportation from the port to Lagos.

“These vehicles provide increased protection from improvised explosive devices, roadside bombs, and small arms fire, while offering more maneuverability and better fuel economy than other types of armoured personnel carriers,” the statement quoted the U.S. Defense Attaché to Nigeria, Col. Patrick Doyle, as saying.

The embassy said the Excess Defense Articles Programme was designed to transfer excess military equipment from the US to foreign governments or international organizations to help with modernization of partner nation military capabilities.

Through a similar programme, the U.S. Government said it  donated to the Nigerian Navy the NNS Okpabana in 2014 and NNS Thunder in 2012, stressing that the two ships had bolstered maritime security in Nigeria.

It read, “Today’s equipment donation represents part of the continuing U.S. commitment to Nigeria and its neighbours to counter Boko Haram’s senseless acts of terror and promote regional security.

“The United States provides advisors, intelligence, training, logistical support, and equipment to our African partners as they work to defeat Boko Haram.”

The US said it would continue working with its partners in the region to identify new opportunities to restore order in the Lake Chad Basin region.

Politics › Probe Me, Soyinka Dares EFCC by braimeddy(op): 8:04pm On Jan 07, 2016
https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Prof.-Wole-Soyinka.jpg

Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka has dared anti-corruption agencies in the country to probe him over an allegation by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, that N82m was spent to host him by former governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Soyinka’s reaction came on the heels of an allegation by the Rivers State Government, which said on Wednesday that it would demand a refund of an alleged N82m purportedly expended on the 80th birthday dinner in honour of the Nobel Laureate by Amaechi.

The government, which spoke through the Commissioner for Information, Austin Tam-George, said it would take time for the legal process to be completed since “they were financial crimes.”

In a statement titled, “Those who flounder in the sewage of corruption,” the Nobel Laureate on Thursday described the allegation as a distraction and a sign of insecurity on the part of Wike.

Tam-George had said, “I will seek the permission of the governor to formally write Professor Wole Soyinka, a known supporter of Amaechi if he received part of the N82m spent on a three-hour dinner hosted in his honour by the Amaechi administration.

“If he agrees that he received such funds, then he will be compelled to refund same to the coffers of Rivers State.  Presently, we have presented these details to the police for investigation and prosecution.”

But Soyinka said, “I have learnt of some unsavory statements by the insecure incumbent of the Rivers State government Lodge. These included a loose invitation to anti-crime agencies to investigate the potential crime of being honoured through any occasion.

“The descent to this present level of abominable distractions makes one truly despair. It is one that even I did not envisage when I warned – ‘Corruption strikes back!’ Whether it brings honour or dishonour to the nation is another matter – I am saddened, but indifferent. EFCC and company – over to you! You all know where I live.

“The unprecedented call by this governor is prescient of a warning I recounted in my recent pamphlet publication, ‘The republic of liars’, and was taken from my address to an anti-corruption global conference that took place in Tunisia two years ago.

“Those words were, ‘Corruption strikes back’. In this ongoing instance, that expression translates most vividly as those who are neck deep in the sewage of corruption ensure that they splatter sewage in all possible and improbable directions.”

Describing Wike as “Wikeleaks”, Soyinka, who threw his weight behind the governor’s call for a probe into the money for the dinner in his honour, however, added that he was sad about the descent of the Rivers helmsman into an ‘abominable’ level of distraction.

He said, “I do however fully support the ‘Wikeleaks’ call for multi-directional probes. I recommend further that he involve the services of INTERPOL to guarantee its extension to all international organisations and governments to whom I owe uncountable events of recognition – including birthday luncheons, dinners, cultural receptions and events of real, fictitious, or simply opportunistic flavoring – to which I have submitted myself.”

Reacting, Amaechi dared Wike to go to court instead of peddling lies against him and Soyinka.

Amaechi, who is now the minister of transportation, spoke through his media office, on Wednesday.

He said it was unfortunate that Wike could peddle lies against him and the Nobel Laureate in order to “criminalise legitimate government transactions”.

The statement by Amaechi’s media office said, “Since Wike is blind to his responsibilities as the Governor of Rivers State and has insisted on attacking the person and clean reputation of Amaechi as his one and only project, then let him go to court to prove his allegations and stop the nefarious insinuations.”

Crime › Gunmen Kill 15 Farmers, Burn Houses In Nasarawa by braimeddy(op): 8:01pm On Jan 04, 2016
https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Fulani.jpg

No fewer than fifteen Agatu farmers were killed by unidentified gunmen in Udeni Ruwa district, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nararawa state, while five others drowned.

It was learnt that the suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded two settlements in Udeni Ruwa district of the state on Sunday night, setting houses on fire.

But, the Police Public Relation Officer, Nasarawa state command, ASP Ismaila Numan Umaru, who confirmed the incident to The PUNCH in a telephone interview in Lafia, the state capital, said seven people were killed and many houses were burned during the attack.

According to him, the attack on Agatu farmers was a reprisal attack by the Fulani herdsmen following a report that three of their men got missing in the area when they took their cows for grazing.

He said, “There was a report that three of the Fulani herdsmen, who took their cows for grazing on Agatu farm land got missing while another body of the victims was discovered.”

The police image maker, however, added that the command had already deployed its men in the area to avoid further breakdown of law and order.

Celebrities › I Don’t Smoke ‘igbo’, Davido’s Lover Insists by braimeddy(op):
https://www.punchng.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Sophia.jpg
Sophia, in a series of Tweets, has responded to Davido’s release of a medical report indicating that there was cannabis in Imade’s system, saying they were all excuses to take Imade from her.

She explained that she had been invited to a meeting where the cannabis claim was made.

She said, “On September 15, David’s dad invited us for a meeting that had in attendance two of his friends and Coco (his daughter).

“In that meeting, David’s dad apologised for the way I was treated in Coco’s residence and said the reason the baby was taken was because medical tests detected marijuana in Imade’s system and he needed to protect her from me and David.

“I couldn’t understand that because I don’t smoke marijuana and I objected at that meeting, but I was told to stay calm.

“After the meeting, his dad requested I leave my seven-month-old baby with him and told me I could come around to check her anytime. He also promised to pay me some upkeep and provide me with a car.

“I had to accept because I felt they had good intentions and since I could come to check my baby anytime, it was okay by me.

“They kept to their promise of the upkeep, but not the car. I didn’t bother since I could afford one. All that matter was my baby.

“Cannabis was never found in my system; it was a concocted lie to steal away my baby. I don’t smoke; I have never smoked weed let alone smoke while breastfeeding.”

Politics › We Demand Neutral INEC Officials For Bayelsa Rerun – Lawyers by braimeddy(op): 12:21pm On Jan 04, 2016
The Independent National Electoral Commission will fail neutrality test if it allows its officials, who conducted the December 5 inconclusive election in Bayelsa State to coordinate the rerun on January 9, lawyers have said,

The lawyers, who conducted a “legal clinic” on the Bayelsa election with civil society organisations, noted that their findings showed that the current composition of INEC in Bayelsa would not guarantee a free and fair rerun.

The report of the clinic, released in Yenagoa on Sunday, was signed by the General Counsel, Legal Clinic for Development and Democracy, Mr. B.B. Bamigboye.

The lawyers specifically urged the commission to redeploy its Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Mr. Baritor Kpagi, and other principal officers, alleging that they were no longer neutral as required by the Electoral Act.

The group noted that the candidates of the frontline political parties, Chief Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, and Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party, had publicly disputed the results in local government areas they allegedly lost.

It said in spite of the dispute, INEC declared winners in seven out of the eight LGAs, but allegedly aligned with the PDP to cancel the results in Southern Ijaw, citing widespread violence.

The group added that while the APC and a group of observers opposed the reason for the cancellation of the election, the PDP had continued to defend the INEC officials responsible for the cancellation.

The LCDD also recalled that the REC allegedly issued a statement claiming he was offered money to rig the election and that his life was under threat.

He said though the party that offered the REC money had been a subject of speculation, INEC leadership had yet to uphold the neutrality contained in its enabling statute following a plethora of petitions, allegations and counter-allegations involving its officials.

He said the electoral law required INEC to redeploy politically-exposed officials and to detail new personnel to conduct the supplementary election in Southern Ijaw and other units across the state.

It added, “While the Electoral Act does not confer locus standi on voters in election tribunal, the right to vote and be voted for is now under threat due to INEC’s inability to demonstrate commitment to neutrality.

“When we juxtapose the foregoing facts with Section 28 of the Electoral Act, 2010, we must of necessity demand a reasonable degree of legal rectitude from INEC.”

Quoting Section 18, sub-section 28 of the Electoral Act, Bamigboye stated, “(1) All staff appointed by the commission taking part in the conduct of an election shall affirm or swear before the High Court, an oath of neutrality as in the Second Schedule to this Act.

“(2) All Electoral Officers, Presiding Officers, Returning Officers and all staff appointed by the Commission taking part in the conduct of an election shall affirm or swear an oath of loyalty and neutrality indicating that they would not accept bribe or gratification from any person, and shall perform their functions and duties impartially and in the interest of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without fear or favour.”

He stated that based on admittance of the REC, the neutrality of INEC in Bayelsa was legally questionable.”

Carrie is another case of dispute, however her documentation seems to be in order enough to give her the title of world’s oldest person between January 11th 1988 and February 14th 1991.

3. Sarah Knauss

Sarah Knauss, was the oldest person to have ever lived in America. She died 33 hours before the year 2000. Sarah Knauss lived her entire life in Pennsylvania. She was born in a small coal-mining town called Hollywood. That’s right folks, Hollywood, the other Hollywood.

2. Tane Ikai

The top 10 oldest people in the world include Tane Ikain, Tane who is Japan’s oldest female on record ever. She is also the oldest undisputed person since the Koseki system in 1879. He suffered the stroke around two times before death at age of around 166.

1. Lucy Hannah

Lucy Hannah was an American super centenarian, that’s right another American. But I can’t help it, she’s fourth on the list due to age. Hannah is the oldest African American to have ever lived and the oldest American at the time of her death. She is also, strangely, the oldest person to have never held the title of oldest LIVING person because she coincided with Jeanne Calment.

This is the main reason we have to be safety cautious during this harmattan period. Most drivers are so reckless. But I wondered what must have caused this kind of huge flame. God have mercy and spare the life of the driver.

May God not let us to be a victim of such incidence and may we all live to see the year 2016. Click like if you believe and have faith.
