The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for its dedication and support in bursting a high profile Business E-mail Compromise, BEC, fraud in Dallas, Texas, which led to the arrest and eventual conviction of a Nigerian, Amechi Colvis Amuegbunam. It acknowledged that the “intelligence obtained by the EFCC and provided to the FBI via Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty” was instrumental in identifying the BEC scheme and Amuegbunam’s specific role. “The Dallas field Office, Legal Attaché Office, and both the FBI’s Criminal and Cyber Divisions are extremely appreciative of the EFCC as a joint partner in the pursuit of global justice for the many victims of these BEC related crimes”. Amuegbunam, 30, who was on a student visa in the US was sentenced to 46months imprisonment and ordered to pay $615, 555.12 in restitution for his role in BEC scheme that caused $3.7million loss to US companies. The convict and other individuals were said to have between November 2013 and August 2015 sent fraudulent emails to companies in the Northern District of Texas and elsewhere containing misrepresentations that caused the companies to wire transfer funds as instructed on a pdf document that was attached to the email.

Investigation into the crime followed reports by two companies in the Dallas Fort Worth area to the FBI Dallas Office that they had received targeted spear phishing emails allegedly from a top executive at a company authorising the company’s accounting department to make financial transfers for the company, a source that was traced to Amuegbunam. After complying with the spear-phishing email instructions to transfer funds, the companies became victims of the BEC scheme.

PTAD commences payment Friday



Succour has come the way of police officers who served in the defunct Biafran Police during the 30 months Nigeria Civil war as President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the payment of pension to the police officers who were granted presidential pardon in 2000.

The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) Wednesday announced that about 162 of such retired police officers and 57 Next of Kin of those who have died will be paid their pension benefits in the first phase of the payment with effect from Friday, October 20, 2017 in Enugu.

A statement from the management of PTAD said after their pardon, a verification exercise was conducted for them by the defunct Police Pension office and recently by PTAD and the Police Service Commission.



The statement reads: “The general public would recall that Nigeria witnessed an ugly civil war between July, 1967 and January, 1970 and as a result of that unfortunate period in our history, some members of the Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police and paramilitary officers who took part with the Secessionist were dismissed from the service.

“The dismissal of those officers was commuted to retirement in the year 2000 through a Presidential Amnesty granted on 29th May, 2000 by the Administration of the then President, Olusegun Obasanjo.

“A verification exercise was conducted for the pardoned officers by the defunct Police Pension Office and recently PTAD on one hand and the Police Service Commission on the other.

“Despite the Presidential pardon and verification of these officers, many of them remained unpaid years after the pardon. However, the present administration under the able leadership of President, Muhammadu Buhari has graciously given approval for the payment of pension entitlements to these officers and their Next of Kin.

PTAD is commencing the payment of pension benefits to the retired war affected police officers on Friday October 20, 2017 in Enugu. 162 officers will be payrolled and 57 Next of Kin who have also not been paid their death benefits will be paid in the first batch.

Nnamdi Kanu is only complicating issues for himself and he may remain a fugitive or in hiding for a long while. His lawyers and family members have declared him missing, arrested or killed, so he can't appear or move freely like every man for a long time or he will be arrested, his lawyers will be charged or arrested for lying to the court, hiding his clients to evade justice and professional misconduct.
Any way you looked at it Kanu is smoking himself. When he fails to appear tomorrow, he will be declared wanted dead or alive, those that stood for his bail will forfeit their funds and also loose their integrity in law and stiffer punishment may be melted on them. He is a goner.

Bad one for PDP

Another crisis looms in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, this time in Anambra state, as some aggrieved members, in large numbers, Monday, abandoned the party’s Governorship flag-off in Onitsha to hold a parallel rally in Awka, Anambra state capital in rejection of Chief Oseloka Obaze as the PDP candidate for the November election.

The mammoth crowd of aggrieved PDP members who rallied at the Ekwueme Square, Awka, threatened to support the candidate of another party if the leadership of the PDP does not, within five days, withdraw the candidacy of Obaze and replace him with any of the other governorship aspirants of the party.


The Awka rally had mainstream PDP grassroots leaders from across the 326 electoral wards in the 21 local governments of the state, who control the major structures of the party, in addition to the party’s polling center agents across the state.

The aggrieved members, chanting anti-Obaze songs insisted that he is still a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and cannot be imposed on the PDP as a flag bearer.

They also rejected the sidelining and relegation of what they described as original members of the party and the imposition of “outsiders” on the party.

The protesting members, in their songs, also rejected former Governor Peter Obi of Anambra state, who is widely known to be Obaze’s political godfather.

They accused him of being a “meddlesome interloper” in the affairs of the PDP.

They also protested against what they described as “undemocratic stance of the national leadership of the party on the process leading to the emergence of Obaze as flag-bearer.

Speaking at the rally, the factional leader of the aggrieved PDP members in Anambra, Prince Ken Emeakayi told the gathering that “Obaze is not a registered member of the PDP and cannot be the candidate of the party.”

He said both “Obaze and Obi are not of the PDP but APGA and as such cannot represent the PDP.”

“Henry Oseloka Obaze is not a bonafide member of the PDP. He is not a registered member of the PDP. I am the PDP chairman in Anambra state and I have checked the register of all our members and his name is not there.

“We are the original members of the PDP and we cannot allow total outsiders to hijack our great party. We therefore give our national leadership five days ultimatum to do what is right.

“We give them five days to withdraw the name of Henry Oseloka Obaze as a candidate of our party and replace him with any of the other contestants who are all bonafide members of the PDP.

“If they fail to do so in the next five days, we the members of the PDP will take the bold step.

“If they refuse to do what is right in the next five days, we will move ahead enmasse to lend our full support to a candidate of any other party of our choice.” Emeakeyi said amidst cheers from the crowd, who continued to chant anti-Obaze and anti-Obi songs.

Other leaders who spoke at the rally include, the former PDP Presidential coordinator in the state, Chief Okey Ezenwa who decried relegation of real members of the party and the imposition of Obaze as PDP flagbearer, stating that there is no way bona-fide members of the party can accept such aberration.

The latest split in the PDP spells doom for the party ahead of the November 18, 2017 Anambra governorship election as the development may lead to transfer of thousands of votes to another party.
