The police have detained Senator Ademola Adeleke, the lawmaker representing Osun west senatorial district.

This is not a good time for Ademola Adeleke who is still fighting Oyetola in court for the claim of the governorship seat in Osun.

According to the information received by NIGERIA NEWS, Nigerian police (local authorities) have arrested and detained the current senator for the issued of certificate forgery that has been won in the court of law.

He was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2018 governorship election in Osun state.

The information was part of the statements by the Adeleke PDP camp on Monday in Osun, said the Senator had honoured an invitation at the force headquarters in Abuja before he was detained.

“We alert the public, diplomatic and democracy community worldwide that the Nigerian Police has arrested and detained Senator Ademola Adeleke on old trumped up charges of certificate and testimonial forgery,” the statement read.

“This is after the school principal and school authority have through affidavits denied any forgery and owned up to the school testimonial issued to Senator Adeleke.

“Senator Adeleke had this morning honoured police invitation at the force headquarters, Abuja. He arrived at the force headquarters at 9am and was not attended to until later this afternoon when he was informed of fresh charges of testimonial forgery. The distinguished Senator was taken to Maitama Police station with plan to arraign him tomorrow at an undisclosed Magistrate court.”

The statement said Adeleke is being victimised over his “pursuit of the retrieval of the governorship mandate freely conferred on him by the people of Osun state”.

The Senator had been declared duly elected by the election tribunal but Gboyega Oyetola, the incumbent governor, filed an appeal.

The appeal court has reserved judgement in the case.

Adeleke’s campaign organisation also accused the police of working for Oyetola and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Yet, the police in connivance with the appellants have decided to unjustly incarcerate and raised trumped up charges which have been clarified by relevant authorities,” the statement read.

“The principal of the secondary school attended by Senator Adeleke testified through affidavit before Bwari High Court that the school indeed issued the testimonial. WAEC equally testified that the Senator sat for the examination. For the Police to revive this old clarified issue confirms political vendetta.

“We call for urgent intervention of well meaning Nigerians to stop this emerging rape of democracy. The case for which the Police is acting is subjudice. It is sad to note that the Police appears to have become a tool in the hands of enemies of rule of law.”

The apex Igbo socio-political organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo on Monday accused some state governors and elites of being responsible for the spate of insecurity in the country.

Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Chuks Ibegbu, said the elites, governors and corrupt system in the country have made the youths employed, hence, the high level of insecurity.

In a statement he signed and forwarded to DAILY POST, Ibegbu called on governors to account for the heavy sum allotted for security votes in the face of security facing the country.

According to Ibegbu, “We blamed insecurity on the ruling elites and the corruption in the system which has made our unemployed youths to turn into hoodlums and now revenging on the uncaring society.

“As long as our ruling elites and uncaring government officials fail to take care of the people, so long will everybody be a victim of the incubus they created.

“The wind they sowed has turned into a whirlwind. They now run to the rail from Abuja to Kaduna and avoid the roads.

“But in the East, there is no functional rail the elites travel along so they must use the dangerous East-West road or the comatose Enugu – Port Harcourt highway.

“This is the situation our elites and government officials have created for us all.

“The only solution is good governance and sincere leadership. Where is the security votes politicians corner for themselves? Some Governors take one billion Naira as security votes without securing anybody.

“They go with a platoon of security men as some of our elites do to leaving the people at the mercy of armed robbers, ritualists, assassins and kidnappers.”

This informed the decision and directive to ban the use of motorcycles within the hinterland particularly around the Forests where the armed bandits, criminals and kidnappers hibernate and all around where troops are conducting operations alongside other security agencies.

While this may cause some inconveniences to some law abiding citizens in the area, the need to use all means possible to stop the dastardly activities of these bandits across the North West part of Nigeria needs no emphasis.

Managing Director of the nation National Theatre based in Lagos state gave up today after a road accident which took many lives.

A report received by Nigeria News Today suggests that Stella was coming from an official assignment when she had an accident at Sagamu in Lagos when her official car rammed into another vehicle at IJebu-Ode Expressway.

Abiodun Abe, the Director in charge of Business Development at the NT, confirmed the development to the media on Tuesday.

A source at the National Theatre, Mr Abiodun Abe made this known to newsmen on Tuesday regarding the death of Dr Stella Oyedeopo who died on Easter Monday

He said he and the Public Relations Officer of the NT, Steve Ogundele, and other management staff were taking the corpse of the deceased to Ilorin, her hometown.

The earlier reports by the NIGERIA NEWS that a lecturer committed suicide in the university premises has received a reaction from the management of one of the oldest universities in Nigeria.

The school says the lecturer who died in his room did not commit suicide but called to glory and there was no iota of truth that did man named, Mr Aminu Zubair set fire on his own body at the front of his office.

The statement was made known by Mr. Olatunji Oladejo who is the current University of Ibadan Director of Communication today being Saturday that the young lecturer died in a fire outbreak in his house and not that he set fire on his self NIGERIA NEWS can report

According to the university Director fire would have razed the whole building down and the adjacent ones but for the sake of quick assistance from the Fire Service close to the deceased residence.

“He was a staff in the Department of Mathematics and had resigned before the ugly incident happened.

“It wasn’t a suicide attempt as he was caught up in the inferno at Philipson Road, where he resides, and couldn’t escape.

“If not for our Fire Service men, who got there at the right time the whole building would have been engulfed in fire completely.

“It was only that particular room that was badly affected, he could not get out and he died out of suffocation from the fumes of the fire.

“He worked in the Department of Mathematics before his exit; he was a lecturer but had resigned and was no more in the service of the University of Ibadan.

“However, he was given a place on compassionate grounds pending the time he would move out.

“There are documents that he had resigned; he was no longer in the service of the university before the ugly incident, which is quite unfortunate.

“The management commiserates with the family on the unfortunate death of Mr. Zubair,” Oladejo stated.

In a telephone interview with NAN, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State command, SP Olugbenga Fadeyi, said the police was not aware of the incident.

We early report about recruitment in one of the petroleum agency DPR, well, it seems the Senate has taken it upon themselves to investigate the recruitment scandal and probably bring to book the people responsible for such scandal.

DPR recruitment scandal is not the first of such in Nigeria agency, recalls the NNPC recruitment scandal, the Abba Moro immigration recruitment scandal and many of such we have reported here at NIGERIA NEWS at one point or the other.



The Senate Committee on Petroleum Upstream has requested the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, to submit a comprehensive list of workers recently employed by the agency.

The Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Tayo Alasoadura made this known when the agency appeared before it for budget defence.

The committee asked the agency to provide names of those recruited, their states of origin and other details, to enable it determine if the process met Federal Character requirements or not.

It further sought to know why the agency’s overhead cost went down by 50 per cent in the 2019 budget.

The committee also requested for an explicit and detailed presentation of the agency’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR, and how it is being utilised, as the figures are not contained in the budget proposal.

It further demanded to know fixed salaries of workers in the agency.

Responding, DPR Director, Mordecai Ladan assured the committee that all requested documents would be made available.

He added that there is nothing to worry about, as the federal character provision and other criteria were used in the recruitment process.

While confirming that the agency recruited over 500 workers, he said necessary procedures were followed in the recruitment.

“When we wanted to recruit, we informed all relevant committees in the National Assembly.

“Advertisements came out in November 2018, although there were things that needed to be sorted out and that made the process to last for six months and over 700, 000 people applied.



“The interview was conducted after one year. Meanwhile, Federal Character Commission was involved in the process and every state was taken care of in the recruitment, catchment areas were also used,” he said.

On why the overhead cost for 2019 budget was reduced by 50 per cent, the director said it was based on request from the Budget Office.

“The budget office asked us to reduce the expenditure,” he said.

Mr Ladan noted that the agency had a total budget of N39.33 billion, with N681 million as capital expenditure, N592.90 million overhead cost and N38.06 billion as personnel cost.

Residents of Shinkai Village in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State have fled their homes following an alleged threat to raze down the village over the alleged killing of a soldier.

According to Malam Labaran Abdu, the leader of the community, armed men in military uniform stormed the village on Sunday, March 24, 2019, and alleged that one of their men was killed in the suburb of Shinkai and his rifle taken away.

“The community leaders in Shinkai told the armed men that they knew nothing about the incident, but they threatened that they will wipe off the village if the killers and the stolen rifle were not produced within three days,” Abdul told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Tuesday.

“As a result of the threat, residents of Shinkai and surrounding villages have crossed over to Awe, Tunga, Terkura and Lafiya in the neighbouring Nassarawa State to take refuge,” he said.

Labaran said that the incident the armed men claimed had led to the death of their member took place about 15 kilometre away from Shinkai, and wondered why the people of Shinkai should be made to bear the burden.

Reacting to the incident, Mr Simon Dogari, Taraba information commissioner, told NAN that he had received reports that there was tension in Shinkai village after a clash between herdsmen and some armed men believed to be soldiers from “Operation Whirl stroke”, who were on special patrol from neighboring Benue State.

He said that the report had claimed that there was a clash between the two groups which left ‘one man with uniform dead”.
Dogari, however, wondered why the suspected military personnel, whose operational area was Benue, had crossed into Taraba and clashed with herdsmen.

He said that a Special Adviser to Governor Darius Ishaku, and the Chairman of Wukari Local Government Area, have been asked to investigate the issue and report back.

The Commissioner appealed to the people of Shinkai and its environs to remain calm as the state government was working round the clock to nip the problem in the bud.

Similarly, Mr Bala Dan-Abu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Taraba on media, who described the death of the military man as unfortunate, urged the authorities to follow due process in redressing the issue.

“Two wrongs cannot make a right; instead of attacking the village, thorough investigation should be carried out to identity the suspected killers.”

He called for calm among all concerned, saying that all hands were on deck toward resolving the matter through dialogue.
Efforts to speak with the Police authorities in Taraba proved abortive, but a senior official of the command said that the matter was being investigated.

March 28th, 2019 has been set aside as the new date for the governorship election rerun in Adamawa state according to the information made available to newsmen by INEC.

Kassim Gaidam, who is the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), made this known to NIGERIA NEWS on Tuesday in the state capital, he emphasized the decision to conduct the election on March 28th was from the Commission hierarchy in Abuja since it was not possible to have conducted the election on March 23rd originally set as a result of a court order which has been lifted today being Tuesday.



He said the commission in the state had put measures in place to avoid what happened in Kano especially to repeat itself in Adamawa as INEC had made plan possible to only allow those who have PVC into polling stations and only accredited observers will also be allowed in the areas where elections are to be supplemented

The supplementary gubernatorial election in the state will take place in 44 polling units in 14 local government areas.

The rerun election in Adamawa state is expected to be conducted around 14 LGAs in 44 polling units

The election failed to hold on March 23 because of a court order

The commission decided to set a new date when a court set aside the injunction on Tuesday morning and thereby prompting the INEC to set the new date for the Adamawa supplementary elections

Following the governorship election on March 9 in Adamawa State, the candidate of the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD), Rev Eric Theman, went to the court to allege omission of the MRDD logo from the ballot paper, and urged the court to annul the election and stop the rerun announced for 44 units in 24 LGAs where voting was cancelled.

The injunction has been lifted and INEC is free to conduct the rerun in the 44 polling units in the state on March 28th, though the court as again set aside March 27th to hear the application of another political party in the state to cancel the whole governorship election, the party is citing that there Logo was not found in the ballot papers meant for election as the reason.

The Adamawa State High Court has barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting the supplementary governorship election scheduled for the state on March, 23.


The state High Court, presided in Yola by Justice Abdulaziz Waziri, granted an interim injuction by one of the governorship candidates stopping INEC from conducting the supplementary polls in the 44 polling units where voting during the March 9 governorship election was cancelled

The governorship candidate of the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRRD), Rev Eric Theman, had filed for the injunction on the premise of non-inclusion of his party logo for the governorship election.


The election had been declared inconclusive by INEC after it collated results from the 21 LGAs of the state and found that the margin of lead between the two leading parties, PDP and APC, was lower than the number of registered voters in polling units where voting was cancelled.

The PDP had polled 367,471 votes as against APC’s 334,995; giving a difference of 32,467; less than the 40,948 registered voters in the 44 polling units where voting was cancelled.

The commission announced Tuesday that it would conduct a supplementary election on March 23 in the affected polling units, a proposal the High Court has now put on hold.

If not re-appointed, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, might vacate his position for one of his deputies, Aishah Ahmad, a top banker in the country’s financial institution.

Ahmad is among eight likely candidates on queue to take over the apex bank’s top job from Emefiele. The other eminent Nigerians being thought fit for the job include Professor Soji Adelaja, Mohammed Dikwa, Bismarck Rewane, Umaru Abdul Mutallab, Obadiah Mailafia, Bello Maccido, Adesola Adeduntan and Herbert Wigwe.

Recall that Emefiele’s job came under threat when the then-presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar faulted him for the slow growth of Nigeria’s economy, stating he’s not the man to lead Nigeria’s highest financial institution.

The probability of Emefiele returning is also low since no CBN Governor has served two terms since Joseph Sanusi.

Role of CBN Governor in the economy
The CBN Governor is expected to advise the president on both fiscal and monetary policies from time to time. Aside from this, the CBN Act, 2007, states that the Governor is expected to formulate, for the approval of the Board, general rules and any subsequent amendments thereto, providing for:


The safekeeping of the common seal of the bank
The safekeeping of the assets of the bank and of valuables entrusted to the bank
The safekeeping of stocks of unissued or redeemed currency and the preparation, safe custody and destruction of plates and paper for the printing of currency notes and disc for the minting of coins
The protection of banknotes and coins in transit
The conditions under which any Zonal Controller, Branch Controller or Currency Officer may be appointed; and
The conditions governing discounts and advances
The exercise of dual control and general security throughout the bank; and
Such additional arrangement which may be made to ensure the efficient working of the bank, through proper observance of security and the accuracy of the accounts of the bank.
Likely criteria
Not far from the basics; to occupy the apex seat, professional background, regional consideration, and international exposure are considered in the selection of the Central Bank job.

According to a report on The Sun, the market always reacts to the final selection, which makes the background and track record of the appointed individual significant. Also, the appointee is expected to be globally respected by the International markets with foreign educational background.

Meanwhile, in the case of Nigeria, the position of the Central Bank governor has always been zoned between the North and South.

President Buhari’s radar
Aishah Ahmad’s name is reportedly on President Buhari’s table, with reasons not disclosed, but according to Newsonbanks, an online medium, the President is considering Ahmad for the CBN job as Emefiele’s term expires in June.

“it is not yet clear if there are strong economic reasons for this, considering emefiele’s sterling performance in stabilising the naira in the winds of the economic turbulence, hellish recession and sluggish recovery that have plagued president buhari’s years in office.”

In the report, it was stated that a source in the Presidency said

“the president is being pressured to submit her name to the senate immediately before or after the election and ensure that it is considered and approved before the end of may.”

Aishah Ahmad, 42, is the youngest member of the CBN Board and oversees the Financial Systems Stability Directorate of the apex bank. She replaced Dr Sarah Alade who retired in March 2017. If the Senate approves her nomination, she will be the youngest and the first female CBN Governor in Nigeria and the first female to hold the position in Africa.



Other eligible candidates
Aside Ahmad, eight others are currently being scrutinised and assessed for the job. These include Professor Soji Adelaja, an economist and Distinguished Professor at Michigan State University (MSU), USA; Mohammed Kyari Dikwa, a PhD holder in Accounting and Finance, whose success in coordinating the TSA and the blockage of billions for the government through PICA was said to have endeared him to the President.

Bismarck Rewane, a financial analyst and the Managing Director of Financial Derivatives Company; Umaru Abdul Mutallab, former CEO of UBA and ex-Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria and Obadiah Mailafia, a former CBN deputy governor in charge of monetary policy, foreign exchange operations, investment management, research, statistics, and cooperation with international institutions.

The rest are Bello Maccido, the Chairman of FBN Merchant Bank; Adesola Adeduntan, Managing Director/CEO, First Bank of Nigeria Limited and Herbert Wigwe, Group Managing Director/CEO, Access Bank Plc.

The Senior Pastor of the Champions Royal Assembly Prophet Joshua Iginla and his wife have ended their marriage based on infidelity on both sides.

The leader of the Abuja-based church announced this during the church’s March 3 Sunday service.



According to him, his now former wife had cheated on him and failed to turn a new leaf which he could no longer bear.

He also admitted to cheating on his wife which resulted in a child, just as she had a child for another man during the period the marriage lasted.

The clergyman also lamented how some of his colleagues and “sons in ministry” turned his marriage into an object of ridicule.

This is as he pleaded with his children to forgive him for the divorce as he wants to be free from the pressures caused by the marriage.
