Politics / It Is Extremely Painful That I Cannot Pay Salaries - Aregbesola by BrAkingNews: 10:28am On Jun 23, 2015

It is extremely painful that I cannot pay salaries - Aregbesola

The governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola has expressed his sadness and pain over his inability to pay his workers their monthly salaries for about seven months now.

While delivering a Ramadan Lecture at the Women Development Centre, Abuja yesterday June 22nd, Aregbesola said his administration borrowed N25billion from banks to support the federal allocations to pay salaries but that the banks have since stopped lending the state money.

"It is extremely painful that I cannot pay salary. It is painful that I have to be in this condition. I am not helpless because I have Allah and the people with me. And whoever has Allah and the people has everything. I didn’t envisage that 400,000 barrels of crude oil would be stolen daily. But the whipping boys must be the governors and I am the ‘Chief’ of the whipping boys,” he said.

He added that the state’s wage bill was N3.5 billion monthly and that his administration has found it difficult to pay due to the dwindling allocation in spite of increase in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N900 million to N8 billion annually.

Politics / MEND Threatens To Resume Militant Activities In Protest Of NASS Members Huge Sal by BrAkingNews: 5:22pm On Jun 22, 2015

MEND threatens to resume militant activities in protest of NASS members huge salaries/allowances

The Movement of the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, has threatened to resume militant activities if members of the National Assembly receive any outrageous allowances. Spokesman of the group Jomo Gbomo said this while speaking to newsmen yesterday June 21st.

“These wicked individuals appropriate to themselves huge and absurd salaries and allowances at the expense of the millions of hapless Nigerians, who have not been paid for months, their salaries, pensions and other benefits they deserve.

The Niger Delta region, where the bulk of revenue that sustains the nation comes from, continues to suffer neglect, environmental degradation and lack, made worse by the very corrupt and visionless past government of Goodluck Jonathan and his cronies, some of who still shamelessly parade themselves on national television and other media platforms as ‘Niger Delta Activists’.

Nigerians refuse to tolerate this ostentatious lifestyle of our lawmakers, whose main objective, it seems, is to enrich themselves and carelessly spend scarce resources. The Niger Delta people refuse to pamper and cater for the needs of these thieving Assembly rogues to their detriment. If the lawmakers refuse to make the necessary adjustments needed to accompany the needs of the masses and the Niger Delta region, it may lead to the resumption of hostilities.”he said

Politics / Saraki’s Election Is Unacceptable, Says Abdulsalami Panel by BrAkingNews: 2:06pm On Jun 17, 2015

With the General Abdulsalami Abubakar-led National Peace Committee declaring that Senate President Bukola Saraki’s and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu’s elections are “unacceptable”, the bitter row sparked by the exercise may just have attained a different dimension.

The committee faulted the process that led to the election of the key principal officers of the Senate in a new statement signed by the Convener, Bishop Hassan Mathew Kukah.

“The story of the process leading to the elections of the principal officers in that august body last week is well-known to all Nigerians. Given the maturity, track record and experience of the body, we wonder why a routine process has turned into an ugly, selfish dogfight.

“This is unacceptable to Nigerians. It neither dignified the Senate nor does it honour what Nigerians voted for.”

The National Peace Committee 2015 played a pivotal role in ensuring peaceful elections. The group facilitated a peace pact between former President Goodluck Jonathan and his then challenger President Muhammadu Buhari to douse the tension in the land ahead of the crucial general elections.

The group also spearheaded the post-election peace management.

Saraki was elected by less than 60 of the 109 senators on June 9, with minority Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members behind him. The Deputy Senate President is a member of the PDP.

The committee said it was important for the highest legislative body to uphold moral authority and value.

It said: “We must have all arms on deck so that we can quickly rout Boko Haram, restore law and order and proceed with the much-desired change of cleansing the Augean stable and delivering quality services to the Nigerian people.

"It is not the way to thank God for what he has done to those who were lucky to be elected to that high office, nor does it honour what He has done to our country.”

Gov. Ambode to provide 20 new rural roads in each LGA every year

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, yesterday, said his administration is committed to provide 20 new rural roads every year in each Local Government, as well as the development of communities across the state.

Ambode, said this during a meeting with members of the Neighbourhood Watch and Community Development Committees, CDCs, at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.

Ambode, who was represented at the event by his Deputy, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, said his administration's policy is to give back government to the communities.

He also appreciated the contributions of the Neighbourhood Watch members to the maintenance of law and order in the communities, adding that there was the need for the Neighbourhood to embark on self appraisal in order to ensure that the members live up to the expectations.

The Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Watch, Alhaji Akeem Sanni commended the state government for always recognizing the Watchers. He said that whatever the members lack in terms of equipment would be channelled to the governor.

Politics / APC And Their Shameful Start As A New Ruling Party by BrAkingNews: 11:36am On Jun 10, 2015

APC and Their Shameful Start as A New Ruling Party

The emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Reps has, undoubtedly, altered political calculations within the All Progressives Congress.

Although the duo are members of the APC, their party showed preference for Senator Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila – for the two top positions for stability in the National Assembly.

Obviously, the decision of the two to defy the party underscored a deep rift among the leading figures within the ruling party. This was perhaps aptly shown by the reactions of party leaders after the emergence of both men through the support of secret PDP agents.

Members of the party’s National Working Committee held an emergency meeting after which they issued a statement rejecting Saraki and Dogara as the leaders of the National Assembly.

As written by John Elechenu, the party threatened sanctions against all its members involved in the process which produced the two in defiance of its directives.

Specifically, the party, in the statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said, “The APC leadership is meeting in a bid to re-establish discipline in the party and to mete out the necessary sanctions to all those involved in what is nothing but a monumental act of indiscipline and betrayal aimed at subjecting the party to ridicule and create obstacles for the new administration.”

A few minutes after the APC statement, President Muhammadu Buhari and a former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, issued separate statements commending the elections.

Buhari, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Femi Adesina, restated his earlier stance that he did not have any preferred candidates for the Senate and the House of Representatives leadership positions and that he was willing to work with whoever the lawmakers elected.

Atiku on his part congratulated the newly elected leaders. He said in a statement by his Media Office that, “Irrespective of the political mix through which the presiding officers emerged, the 8th National Assembly should never lose focus of its role as a partner in progress with other arms of government especially the executive arm.”

With conflicting signals coming from leading figures of the party, there is little doubt that the APC will be faced with some, if not most of the problems, which marked the latter days of the former ruling Peoples Democratic Party.

The party leadership is faced with the grim reality of trying to “enforce discipline” within its fold. This, in itself, is potentially a volatile road to travel if not properly handled.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, expressed delight about the turn of events in the National Assembly.

According to him, the seed sown by the APC in the House of Representatives in 2011, with the election of Aminu Tambuwal as Speaker, against the wishes of the PDP has grown into a very big tree, the fruit of which the APC is now generously reaping from.

He however said, “The reality today is that we all need each other to move forward. The new Senate President will benefit from the experience of Ekweremadu who has been the DSP for eight years and vice versa. I believe Nigeria and Nigerians will be the better for it.”

How the APC resolves this and other challenges which they will definitely be confronted with in the coming days, weeks, and months, will define the party’s character and future.

Where is the change?

The Three Major Areas I Will Concentrate On – Buhari

My administration will concentrate on three major areas on assumption of office; that is insecurity, the economy/unemployment and corruption. We will ensure we nip insecurity in bud.

“The Nigeria Army could not do small thing, they have to bring in South African mercenaries to enable them record the recent gains in the North East.”

These were the words of President-elect Muhammadu Buhari, while playing host to the national executive council of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on Monday.

Speaking on governance, Buhari said his administration would make sure every Nigerian lives within his honest earnings, adding that “a situation where people live above their earnings will not be tolerated.”
APC holds forum on policy direction for new government
Ahead of the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) central government in the country, the roadmap for the policy direction of the Buhari administration would be unveiled during a two-day policy dialogue to be held in Abuja on Wednesday and Thursday.
The policy dialogue, with theme, 'Implementing Change: From Vision to Reality', is being organised by the Policy, Research and Strategy Directorate of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

Briefing journalists in Abuja, the deputy head of the directorate and former minister of youth and sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the president-elect would declare the dialogue open while the vice-president-elect, Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), would chair it.

Former British PM, Mr. Tony Blair, is the keynote speaker at the dialogue where input to the roadmap for the actualisation of the policies of the incoming administration would be made by experts.

Abdullahi identified the core areas of focus in the two-day dialogue to include the economy, governance, job creation and security in line with the APC manifesto.

Politics / Asari Dokubo Threatens President-elect General Buhari Again by BrAkingNews: 11:20am On May 19, 2015

Asari Dokubo threatens President-Elect General Buhari again

Following the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election, leader of the militia group, Niger Delta People Salvation Front, Asari Dokubo, has declared that his group is ready to commence its bloody armed struggle against the Nigerian state.

Asari on several occasion in the recent past promised to make Nigeria ungovernable if Jonathan, an Ijaw man from the Niger Delta, was not voted for a 2nd term by Nigerians. Nigerians rejected him!

Speaking on Sunday at the Major Isaac Adaka Boro’s Memorial event, the militant said the restraining order the Jonathan’s administration had on the armed struggle for self determination of the Niger Delta people has been voided with the emergence of the Muhammadu Buhari government.

He said a new phase in the struggle will soon be unveiled, but that militants will wait for the new government to “draw the first blood.”

“Yes, a new government begins in Nigeria and a next phase of our struggle shall begin also,” he said. “Jonathan Goodluck Presidency was like a restraining order now that restraint is lifted. However, we will watch and wait, let them draw the first blood and we shall determine our best way forward. Truly Nigeria will never be the same again the future is pregnant.”

He said the posturing of the incoming Buhari-led administration suggests that it will extinguish whatever is left of the Niger Delta struggle. He added he is ready to die in war or in prison if the in-coming government attempts to trifle with the struggle for self-determination of the oil-producing region or treat it as a conquered region.

“Should Buhari whom like pharaoh has determined in his heart to turn desolate the Niger Delta region, draw the first blood by undermining certain interest of the region then begin the systemic arrest, maiming and murder our comrades, continue the confiscation of our rights to self-determination and treat the region as a conquered region, then it may be honourable for some of us to die in prison or in the field of war as nobody is afraid of him,” Mr. Dokubo said.

Asari took a swipe at other Niger Delta militants that have declared their readiness to work with in-coming government describing them as “petty penny merchants” and “field slaves” who have fled the battlefield.

He further called on Niger Delta youth to resist any attempt to treat the region as a defeated region.

“Let it be known that we were not defeated,” he said. “It was Jonathan and his party that lost an election. We as a people, indeed the Niger Delta region alongside the Igbos were never defeated. We collectively rejected the born to rule and supremacist agenda which some of our brothers as field slaves and taskmasters supported yet their number shows that they are of little consequence, we must however not take them for granted.”

He also took a swipe at Jonathan, saying the president is merely a beneficiary of the Niger Delta struggle but not a part of the struggle and thus cannot understand the real intent of the struggle, which, he said is to secede from Nigeria which he described as “a false and forced colonial union.”

“He, Jonathan Goodluck, was never in the struggle. He was not a product of the struggle but an establishment beneficiary of our struggle. Our struggle is not and never about becoming the president. It was not about being awarded oil licenses and mouth-watering contracts. It was not about massive infrastructural development of the Niger Delta Region. It was not about high scale appointments, employment and empowerment. It was never about interventionist programmes and projects.

“Our struggle indeed is about our collective freedom from a false and forced colonial union that has remained divided and un-integrated. It is about our being conferred a slave status and seen as a conquered people who must exist at the mercy of the overloads and supremacist class using our own brothers as taskmasters against us in a Nigerian union."

But the same Asari amassed wealth from the multi-billion naira pipeline contract awarded to ex-militants by the Jonathan administration as part of the amnesty deal.

Yes, I have married another but it is not a replacement for Clara - Oshiomhole

Speaking during his Thanksgiving Mass held in Auchi yesterday Sunday May 17th, Governor Adams Oshiomhole said his new wife is not a model as widely speculated in the media. He also said Iara is not a replacement for his late wife, Clara Oshiomhole. What he said below...

"When I read newspaper stories and they say that Comrade has married a ‘top model’ I’m like maybe it’s another person. The lady that God has directed to my path and heart to marry is not and was not a model. Of course, she looks beautiful and I understand that is why people assume that this kind of a lady must be a model but of course, she is a model in my heart and we hope and pray that we will be models in the heart of our God and I think that is the most important thing”.

"I ask you to please continue to pray for us. It is not easy. I lost my first wife and it is not possible to replace her. Yes, I have married another but it is not a replacement. You cannot replace a wife especially one you married when you were young and you were anonymous. Nobody knew you from anywhere, you had nothing, no car, no house; now, that you can never replace but I understand that under the Catholic doctrine I am entitled to have another wife which is what I am trying to do."

"Thank you for your prayers, support and blessings that you have always showered on me and the one you conveyed this morning on me and my new wife and we ask for more and more prayers that this marriage will be my last and that God will help us, to unite us and bond us together with the blood of Jesus”

Politics / Boko Haram Had Information Of Itinerary Of Military – Survivor by BrAkingNews: 11:55am On May 12, 2015
One of the survivors of Boko Haram insurgency Zahra Umoru says the terrorists were receiving the information of the movements of the military.

Boko Haram Had Information Of Itinerary Of Military – Survivor

The girl was abducted in November and rescued recently with other women and children from Sambisa forest.

The teenager was speaking with the journalists of TheCable at Malkohi, one of the camps for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yola, Adamawa state.

She said Boko Haram terrorists kept moving hostages from one place to the other.

Umoru narrates: “When they captured us, we were taken to a house in Gwoza.

“When they heard soldiers were in Madagali, they took us to Peta where we lived under trees.

“We don’t know how Boko Haram gets its information, but they always know when the soldiers are coming. If there’s something like that, they just tell us to pack our things and run.

“The night we left Gwoza, we just finished cooking, but we were not allowed to eat the food; we were just packed and left.”

Several other Boko Haram victims proved this information.

They said they were relocated from one village to another, one bush to the other, town to town, based on the itinerary of the Nigerian army.

Meanwhile, it is uncertain if the insurgents receive its information from news reports and comments released by the Defence Headquarters or they have some insiders in the army.

Earlier in April, when the military was commencing the operation in Sambisa forest, Mike Omeri, coordinator of the national information centre, informed the journalists.

He said that the government was dedicated to liberating the girls.

About two weeks later, the army said in another comment that its soldiers were still present in Sambisa to rescue the girls.

Borno senator Ali Ndume has said that Nigerian army rescued about 1000 women and children in the North East.

After the postponement of the general elections for six weeks troops achieved success in the war against insurgency. The most of the captured areas were liberated.

The mass kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls who were writing science exams at a boarding school in the town of Chibok a year ago brought Boko Haram to the attention of the world and caused international outrage.

The terrorists kidnaped a hundreds more in their campaign across northeastern Nigeria.

Politics / How Elected Senators Can Sustain Democracy - David Mark by BrAkingNews: 11:44am On May 12, 2015
Senate President, David Mark, has tasked the incoming members of the house of assembly to sustain democracy in the country by shunning the advances of governors.

Mark, using President Jonathan’s management of the 2015 general elections asked politicians to put the interest of Nigeria above theirs.

Mark also warned the lawmakers that executive interference from state governors will come which they should in all their power resist.

Mark was speaking at a five-day induction for the new legislators at the International Conference Centre, ICC, Abuja. Mark also urged politicians to resist the urge to visit election tribunals when such situations were avoidable.

Mark was quoted by Nigerian Pilot saying: “As I said at the induction of (the) federal legislators, real credit must go to Nigerians, and especially President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for overseeing transparent and credible elections and for promoting a political culture of tolerance.

“The President’s gesture of congratulating the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and conceding defeat, even before the final results were announced, is exemplary. He has demonstrated patriotism, political maturity; but more importantly, as a statesman, he has put Nigeria on the world map of the league of mature democracies.

“This must be a lesson to all politicians that our first loyalty is, and must be to the state. It is also imperative to state that President Jonathan has not gone to any election tribunal. I enjoin politicians to imbibe this example.

“For the first time in our democratic history, a ruling party is handing over to an opposition party. This is a clear indication that our democracy is growing.

Mark also urged the lawmakers-elect to guarantee equality and basic freedom. he also urged the senate to empower ordinary people and resolve disagreements through peaceful dialogue.

READ ALSO: EU Explains Why STRONG Opposition Will Be In APC’s Best Interest

Mark also used the present assembly as an example for the incoming assembly to follow. He said the present assembly “has achieved institutional stability” which should be the hallmark for the new elected assembly to follow.

Mark also praised the legislature in Nigeria which he said for the last 16 years has “stood on the side of the people and intervened at the most critical moments to salvage the system from imminent collapse.

“At the national level, the Legislature has continued to assert its independence and resist executive interference. Thus, the Legislature has achieved institutional stability and transformed from being a ‘mere rubber stamp’ of executive decisions and policy initiatives into an institution that now enjoys a reasonable degree of legitimacy and respect.

“We are not quite where we want to be though. But can we say the same of state legislatures? If I may tell all of you here, the general impression is that the state legislatures have remained an appendage of the government houses or governors. I recall that when the first constitutional amendment was done, the state assemblies did not have the political courage to muster enough votes for their financial autonomy.

“For example, as lawmakers, you must avoid holding your sessions in the council chambers of the Government Houses. It is ignoble to use the Mace outside the chamber or borrow a Local Government Legislative Council Mace to conduct your affairs or resort to self-help by using your Mace to perpetuate violence.

Mark said all state assemblies must conduct their sitting in line with the constitutional requirements and added that all state legislators mustn’t abuse their powers to impeach speakers, executive governors or their deputies.

Mark also discussed impeachment processes which he says should not be abused.

“Impeachment is not designed for a few days exercise. Where it has become the last resort, it must be painstakingly conducted within the hallowed chamber of the parliament in accordance to the extant rules of the House and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is not to say that there should be no collaboration between the executive and the state legislatures on matters of public good,” he added.

The senator said lawmakers must in a way that promotes electoral democracy by shunning violence.

Mark concluded his message by saying; “as I have called for synergy between state assemblies and the National Assembly, I wish to emphasise that a strong partnership is also required between the executive and the legislature in order for Nigeria to achieve its developmental goals, increase transparency and accountability and curb corruption.”

Politics / Fayose Drops Bombshell: PDP Chairman Mu’azu Met Tinubu by BrAkingNews: 10:02am On May 12, 2015

Fayose Drops Bombshell: PDP Chairman Mu’azu met Tinubu

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has claimed the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, was not totally committed to the party during the elections, claiming that Mu’azu even had a secret meeting with APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

In his words, “Shortly before my election, he (Mu’azu) was to see me and I waited for him in his house for about five hours and then he came out to say he was sorry and that we should give him space. He said the Yoruba people should give him some space because he was expecting someone who did not want to see any Yoruba man.

“I left his house but kept a tab on him. His house is like a ring road and I came back to find out who had come to see him and the person was Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. That is the truth.

"When I returned to his house, he told me that I should not be annoyed that it was Tinubu that came to visit him. I was worried because the Ekiti election was just five days away and I almost lost my breath.”
Fayose stated this during a programme on Channels TV titled, View from the Top, on Monday.

He stressed that Mu’azu was not committed to PDP as he was often absent when the party needed him.

But he admitted that Muhammadu Buhari won the presidential election because Nigeria wanted a change.

He, however, argued that Buhari garnered a majority of the votes in the North because the people of the North felt it was their turn to rule and President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the South, should not have been in power because the late President Umaru Yar’Adua did not complete his tenure.

Fayose said despite Buhari’s massive northern support, the PDP should have been able to get more than 10 per cent of the total votes cast in Bauchi State.

He wondered why PDP failed to get up to 10% of the votes in Bauchi State despite the PDP having a sitting governor, a minister and the national chairman as indigenes of the state.

He said, “The day the presidential election held, the chairman was not in the country. On the day the names of our candidates were to be submitted to INEC, our chairman was in Lagos, on his way to Singapore.

“I was with President Jonathan on that day and I told him to call him. The President did not know that Mu’azu was in Lagos on his way to Singapore. Even when he travelled recently, he said he had a problem with his left hand and wanted to travel abroad for treatment.

“However, he called some people and told them that he had deceived the President. You must be consistent in character. I am saying everything on camera; let him come out to deny these allegations. I don’t want to be in a PDP where we have betrayers of all sorts.”

But Mu’azu has denied ever meeting Tinubu. He further advised Fayose to concentrate on governance and leave him alone. The PDP chairman, who considered Fayose as a younger brother, said he was not interested in exchanging words with him in the media.

Politics / I Know My Ministers And I Will Be Persecuted- Jonathan by BrAkingNews: 2:35pm On May 11, 2015

I Know My Ministers and I Will Be Persecuted- Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan has given an insight into the fate that awaits him and his ministers after May 29, saying he believes they will be persecuted.

He stated on Sunday during a thanksgiving and farewell service organised in his honour at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Abuja that the persecution would happen because of the “ hard decisions” his administration took while in office.

Jonathan told the congregation that he understood clearly that “ hard decisions” had their own cost and was therefore ready to pay any price for them

He said that experience had shown him that people would at a time desert anybody who took “hard decisions” like he did while in office.

Jonathan added that he had always believed that more of his friends would desert him after May 29.

The President recalled the story of the last ruler of apartheid South Africa, Frederik de Klerk, who was divorced by his wife for accepting to abolish minority rule in the country, and said jokingly that he hoped his wife, Patience, would not also divorce him after the end of his tenure on May 29.

Beaming with smiles, Mrs. Jonathan, who on March 16 declared that she was not ready to feed her husband in prison, replied with a shout of “Nooooo.”

Her response was greeted with a loud applause by congregation members.

The President said, “I believe there are reasons for everything. Some hard decisions have their own cost; and there is no doubt about that.

“That I have run the government this way that stabilised certain things, the electoral process and other things that brought stability to this country. They are very costly decisions which I must be ready to pay for.

“Some people come to me and say this or that person, is he not your friend that benefitted? Is it not your government that this person benefitted from? But this is what the person is saying.

“But I used to say that worse statements will come. If you take certain decisions, you should know that those close to you will even abandon you at some point.

“And I tell them that more of my so-called friends will disappear. When de Klerk took the decision to abolish minority rule in South Africa, even his wife divorced him. I hope my wife will not divorce me. But that is the only decision that has made South Africa to be a global player now. If they still have minority rule, by this time, nobody will be talking about them.

“If you take certain decisions, it might be good for many but it might affect others differently. So, for ministers and aides who served with me, I sympathise with them because they will be persecuted. They must be ready for persecution.

“Quoting Tai Solarin, may your ways be rough, I say to my ministers, I wish you what I wish myself. They will have hard times, we will all have hard times. Our ways will be rough.”

Jonathan however said he was happy that ordinary Nigerians appreciated what he did and that, according to him, is most important.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday gave an insight into the fate that awaits him under the government of the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, saying he and ministers as well as other aides who served under him would be persecuted.

He said he and his ministers would have hard times because of some critical decisions they took while in office.

Saying that hard decisions have their own cost, Jonathan said he was ready to pay for some of the costly decisions he took while in charge of the country.

He spoke at a thanksgiving and farewell service organised in his honour at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa in Abuja.

Jonathan who was accompanied by his wife, said considering what God had done in his life, he wished he could dance like the biblical King David but he kept missing his steps whenever he made attempts.

He said only a few Nigerians within his age bracket were as lucky as he is because he had not suffered any lack, not because he is hardworking but by the grace of God.

He said after reflecting on the benefits which included the scholarships he enjoyed in school and the various political offices he had occupied, he should be able to do anything in the interest of the country, including paying the supreme price.

Jonathan said, “I want to thank God for what he has done for me and my family. I wish to dance more than David, if I tried to dance, I missed my steps."

Politics / PDP Members Defecting To APC Will Return With Empty Stomachs-pres.jonathan by BrAkingNews: 10:58am On May 01, 2015

PDP members defecting to APC will return with empty stomachs-Pres.Jonathan

President Jonathan has said all those who have defected to APC will come back with empty stomachs.Speaking at the handover of reports by the Presidential Campaign Organisation, he said

“These people who are running – some of them are already carpet-crossing, they will come back with empty stomachs because they (APC) would touch the primary members of their party before they would look at you, the peripheral. They know you are coming because you think there is food. Before it will get to you, the food will be gone. So let us be committed to PDP”,

On the elections,he said

“If you look at the result, the difference is two point something million votes. If you look at areas where it appears that the PDP scored so low, PDP cannot get that kind of result. But the elections are over, the country remains. It is not as if Jonathan alone made the sacrifice; it is all of us. I just made the pronouncement. Some people here paid more sacrifice than I did.”

As the president continued his words of consolation to party members, national coordinator and chief financier of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), Chief Ifeanyi Uba, and former minister of finance, Senator Nenadi Usman, were betrayed by their emotions and broke down in tears.

Uba wept profusely and uncontrollably to the extent that he had to be taken outside before the event ended. He was thought to have invested huge personal resources and time in the re-election bid of the president.
Consoling party members, Jonathan said,

“I know how some of you are already being persecuted. I know how much was involved. The key thing is that as a party we must continue to unite and work hard so that, as we go into the subsequent elections in 2019, PDP would be able to come up stronger. Even in the interest of the nation, we need PDP.

“Though we have lost the presidential, National Assembly and governorship elections massively in the northern part of the country, PDP is still the dominant party. Let us not judge PDP by the result of the presidential election. Our duty is to go back and identify those areas. PDP is still the most organised party that nobody owns.
“I encourage members of our party to remain and not be disillusioned just because we lost the presidential election and decide to go to where things will feed their stomachs or something. It is not easy; I have been here for over five years and you can hardly satisfy 50 per cent of those who worked for you.”

Politics / Prophet Has A Message For Obasanjo, Buhari, Tinubu, Fayose by BrAkingNews: 9:31am On May 01, 2015

Prophet Has A Message for Obasanjo, Buhari, Tinubu, Fayose

Prophet Tibetan is one of the few Nigerian prophets who boldly predicted that Goodluck Jonathan would be defeated by General Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential election. He has come out with fresh sets of prophecies, one is that Nigerians should thank Baba Olusegun Obasanjo, Bola Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi, etc for their efforts in salvaging Nigeria from the claws of bad leadership.

He has some words for Buhari and a serious message for Governor Ayo Fayose. Details below:
Buhari will not die in office:
Buhari will not die in office. God prolonged the life of King Hezekiah in the Bible and this is Buhari’s portion. He won’t die in office. He has a job to do. There is no time to waste. Mr. President-elect should hit the ground running on his first day in office because he already has the template of what he wants to do to liberate Nigeria since 2003. Remember I told the world in my Prediction 2015 book that General Buhari is not chosen by God but by the people of Nigeria to liberate them and since he is the one the people want, God answered their prayer by giving him the leadership of the country. Buhari should run the affairs of Nigeria without fear or favor because he has a limited time to do this work.
Obasanjo, Tinubu, Amaechi, Nyako deserve kudos:
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and former President Olusegun Obasanjo are heroes who saved Nigeria and Nigerians from death. They are the Gideons of our time and their role in liberating Nigeria from problem is noted before God. God is happy with Tinubu, Obasanjo, Rochas Okorocha, Amaechi and Murtala Nyako, the former Governor of Adamawa state. Nigerians should give kudos to them for their heroic act.
Is there anything Buhari should do before moving into the Aso Rock presidential villa?
Yes, if General Buhari want to run his term successfully and does not want the fate of late President Umar Yar’Adua to befall him, he must make a complete and total cleansing of Aso Rock Villa before he moves in. Between now and when he would be sworn in, General Buhari must not step into Aso Rock Villa for any meeting either in the day or in the night.

And after he is sworn in on May 29, he must ensure that America, Britain and Germany help him snoop around the entire Aso Rock vicinity to detect anything that might have been planted in there for him. An entirely new security measure should be put in place to ensure the total security and safety of the new landlord. Until then, the General could run his own “White House” from anywhere but Aso Rock.

Will Ekiti State Governor still be impeached?
The Lord does not do mistake with his words, Ayo Fayose has just nine months to stay on that seat after which he will be going to jail. I don’t really have much to say on this. I have told you what the Lord will do on December 20 when I was launching my prediction book in Nigeria. Ayo Fayose will not see the end of 2015 as Ekiti State Governor.

Boko Haram Allegedly Heading to South Africa to Bomb Them For Killing Nigerians

The dreaded Boko Haram insurgents has been spotted in Zimbabwe in transit to South Africa, according to reports by UK-based news outlet ZimEye, citing Zimbabwe’s national intelligence agency.

According to the Zimbabwean news website, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) issued an intelligence report, warning that the Islamist militant group is in Zimbabwe en route to neighbouring South Africa.

ZimEye added that the South African intelligence service has alerted police officers in Zimbabwe’s Matebeleland region about Boko Haram’s intentions to infiltrate South Africa.

Other Zimbabwean media outlets have picked up the story. One outlet, Harare24, claims, “Officers were yesterday called for duty at around 9pm and are now temporarily stationed at selected police stations where they camp.”

iHarare reports that police spokespersons have not responded to a request for clarification on the original ZimEye report, and official statements from the government of Zimbabwe regarding Boko Haram’s potential presence in Zimbabwe do not appear to exist.

The Matebeleland region borders South Africa, where the jihadist group may seek to “carry out revenge attacks for the ill-treatment of several Nigerian nationals in the ongoing xenophobic attacks” that have left seven people dead and displaced thousands more from their homes, notes the news website.

Boko Haram released propaganda this month threatening to kill South Africans in retribution for the wave of xenophobic violence affecting Nigerians and others in that nation, though it was believed that Boko Haram members would find and kill South Africans in the areas where they operate: Northeast Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon.

Boko Haram reportedly released a video nearly two weeks ago urging South Africa to end the xenophobic attacks taking place within its borders.

Zimbabwe’s online news outlet iHarare reports that in the video, which has not yet been verified as authentic, Boko Haram warned that it would execute all South Africans in Nigeria, Chad, Niger, and other surrounding countries if the government of South Africa failed to contain the situation.

Politics / PDP Leaders Conspired With APC To Sack Jonathan – Senator by BrAkingNews: 1:25pm On Apr 30, 2015

PDP Leaders Conspired with APC to Sack Jonathan – Senator

Senator Suleiman Adoke, the PDP member representing Nasarawa South in the senate, has claimed that ranking members of the PDP at the federal and state levels actively connived with the APC leadership to ensure victory for the party in the last general elections, including the presidency.

Senator Adoke who spoke with journalists in Abuja, described it as an institutional conspiracy, adding that the high level of betrayal suffered by Jonathan was unprecedented.

He said, “I maintain that there is a complete institutional conspiracy to shift the government from the PDP to the APC at all cost. Virtually everybody participated in this movement across the political parties."

He said all who contested election on the ticket of PDP, on March 28, suffered same fate with Jonathan.
The senator explained that everybody including non politicians were involved in the movement to get the PDP out of power at all cost, hence no one complained about the issue of faulty card readers and other flaws recorded on the day of the election.
“Infact ranking PDP stalwarts participated in this grand design to effect a change in governance. Even when the ordinary people knew the election was not fair, they looked the other way because everybody was united to make sure that PDP was out of government.

“That can happen in the life of any country where people had enough of a particular ruling party and desperately needed a change without minding how the change would come.

“In my own opinion, this is what happened in Nigeria. We just pray that it is for good.”

Adoke claimed that he was winning his election up to the midnight of Sunday, March 29, and only waiting for the announcement which did not come until Monday evening.

“Let me say categorically that I lost the election due to the active collaboration of the PDP agents, that is what made it very sad.

"My best friends, who I appointed as my agent at the collation centres all sold out. Today they can not look at me in the face, some of them had even run away. It was a massive conspiracy to get me out of office.

“One of my friends is riding the car that I bought for my mother. His case is that of a betrayal that I will never forget in my life. The degree of conspiracy that I encountered was such that cannot adequately addressed by any court of law.”

Politics / President Jonathan, Sambo, Others To Pocket N3.24billion by BrAkingNews: 9:32am On Apr 29, 2015

President Jonathan, Sambo, Others To Pocket N3.24billion

President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice-president Namadi Sambo, non-returning federal lawmakers, ministers and presidential aides will collect N3.24bn as severance allowances, investigation has revealed.

Nigerians have cried out against the huge amount: “We suggest a drastic cut in the amount. Political office holders do not necessarily serve Nigeria more and better than school teachers, lecturers, judges, health workers et cetra, who take home modest gratituities and pensions after 35 years of service.”

Jonathan, who will hand over to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, on May 29, is entitled to 300% of his annual basic salary...

The President’s annual basic salary is put at N3,514,705 and therefore his severance allowance will be N10,544,115 after May 29.
The severance allowance is without prejudice to his other constitutional entitlements as a former head of government.

According to Punch findings, the severance allowances are contained in the Remuneration Package that was put together by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

Similarly, Vice-President Sambo, who leaves office the same day as Jonathan, is also entitled to 300% of his annual basic salary put at N3, 031,572.50. This means that his severance allowance after May 29 is N9, 094,717.50.
For having held the office of vice- president, Sambo also has some constitutional entitlements and perks.

About 76 senators are not returning to the National Assembly either because they did not stand for election or because they lost their bids to return. They are however entitled to N462,019,200 at the expiration of their tenure on June 5.

Like Jonathan and Sambo, they are entitled to 300% of their annual basic salaries as severance allowances. This amounts to N6,079,200 per senator.

In the House of Representatives, about 290 members are not returning to the 8th National Assembly to be proclaimed into existence by Buhari on June 5.

Each of the members is entitled to N5, 955,637.50 as severance allowance. This means that the 290 members will be paid N1, 727,134,875.

The ministers, on the other hand, will be collecting a total of N253,967,212.5. There are 42 ministers in Jonathan’s cabinet. Thirty one of them are senior ministers and 11 are ministers of state.

Each of the senior ministers is entitled to N6,079,200 severance allowance while each of the ministers of state will receive N5,872,740.

This means that collectively, the senior ministers will get N188,455,200 at the expiration of their tenure on May 29 while collectively, the ministers of state will be collecting N65,512,012.5.

The aides to the President comprising special advisers, senior special assistants and special assistants will get N775,207,125.

There are 23 of them who work with the president as special advisers. Apart from this number, however, there are several others estimated at 110 who work with the vice-president, the First Lady and special advisers that are designated either as senior special assistants or special assistants to the President.

This means that there are about 133 aides to the president and each of them is entitled to 300% of their annual basic salary which amounts to N5,828,625.

The Nigerian democracy has been identified as one of the costliest in the world as a result of a large number of political office holders.

Some experts, for instance, think that a cabinet made up of 42 ministers is too large. Only 37 ministers are envisage by the constitution from each of the states and the FCT.

Senate and Reps is also another burden. Why can't we have just Senate since we States Assembly?

“This is a country where civil servants who served the country for 35 years are queuing to death for pensions that mostly remain unpaid. There are no serious countries in the world where public officials earn what ours take not to talk of the sickening retirement benefits they ask for.”

Politics / Jonathan's God-father, E.K Clark, Has Been Abandoned In Abuja by BrAkingNews: 9:23am On Apr 29, 2015

Jonathan's god-father, E.K Clark, has been abandoned in Abuja

Soon after President Olusegun Obasanjo made Goodluck Jonathan what he became between 2007 till date, he was hijacked by Ijaws as a regional president and they made sure he had no time for OBJ.

Now, the loss of last month’s presidential re-election effort by Jonathan has continued to rubbish most of those who had hijacked him, including the desertion of the once bubbling Abuja residence of his god-father, Chief Edwin Clark, located in the expensive Asokoro district of the FCT, Abuja.

The home once had a security force of about 12 soldiers, civil defence officers and the police...

In the past, politicians who were looking for appointments or favours of the now-humbled PDP, thronged the place to seek the approval of the self-appointed leader of the Ijaw tribe.

Apart from soliciting favours, some of the politicians visited Clark to report those they considered to be moles within the Presidency and the PDP at both national and state levels to him in the hope he could use such information to their benefit.

However, since the President’s defeat by General Muhammad Buhari of the APC, the politicians have all disappeared from the presence of the once influential man.

When visited on Sunday, the house has become a ghost of its past. Most security men have been recalled by their bosses, who have concluded that with Jonathan’s defeat, there is no need to attach them to a political hanger-on who should never have had them in the first place.

Clark is presently in London where he is hoping to recover from the shock of Jonathan's defeat by Buhari. He had sworn many times that Jonathan would be re-elected.

No Work, Schools Shutdown In Ekiti, As Fayose Calls On Okada Riders, Drivers To Help Defend His Mandate

Pupils in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital, were sent back home Monday morning and civil servants stayed away from the State Secretariat for fear of being caught in a potential outbreak of violence following the call by Governor Ayodele Fayose to Okada riders and drivers to rise up and help him protect his mandate.

Nineteen lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress have initiated impeachment proceedings against him and have requested the state chief judge to raise a panel to probe the governor.

A resident of the city, who asked not to be named for fear of his safety, told PremiumTimes that although vehicular movements were not restricted in Ado-Ekiti, there were minimal commercial activities in the town as a large group of Mr Fayose’s supporters from three transport unions in the states gathered at the House of Assembly Complex in anticipation that the APC lawmakers would attempt to meet there.

“I took my children to school this morning and I was told to take them back home. In fact, I saw about six teachers at the gate of a public school close to my children’s school sending pupils home,” he said.

“Most of the ministries are very close to the House of Assembly Complex; most of the civil servants did not come to work because of the tension. I’ve called several civil servants working there and they said there was no life along the secretariat road. They told me that they fear that violence might occur and that it is better they stay at home,” he added.

The transporters were responding to calls by Mr Fayose on the state-owned television station, Ekiti State Television for Okada riders and drivers to mobilise and defend the mandate they gave the governor.

“My mandate is your mandate and you must defend it,” said Mr Fayose in a live broadcast on Ekiti State Television on Sunday.
