Nairaland / General / Ofcom Sanctions Loveworld Limited Over Harmful Claims About Covid-19 by BrandAfriq: 6:59am On May 19, 2020
Ofcom has today imposed a sanction on Loveworld Limited, which broadcasts the religious television channel Loveworld, after a news programme and a live sermon included potentially harmful claims about Covid-19.

Our investigation found that a report on Loveworld News included unsubstantiated claims that 5G was the cause of the pandemic, and that this was the subject of a ‘global cover-up’. Another report during the programme suggested hydroxychloroquine as a ‘cure’ for Covid-19, without acknowledging that its effectiveness and safety as a treatment was clinically unproven, or making clear that it has potentially serious side effects.

A sermon broadcast on Your Loveworld also included unsubstantiated claims linking the pandemic to 5G technology, as well as claims which cast serious doubt on the necessity for lockdown measures and the motives behind official health advice on Covid-19, including in relation to vaccination.

Nairaland / General / Fallout Of Covid-19 Will Still Be With Us Till 2021-steve Babaeko by BrandAfriq: 11:35am On Apr 23, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic might be shaking the world right now but that has still not stopped farmers from seeing how they can feed the nation in the ugly situation even though many are trying to ensure that they keep to tabs with various ways of hygiene so as not to contact the coronavirus.

One of Nigeria’s big name in the advertising world, Steve Babaeko, is not just doing well as a brand mogul but also as a farmer who is ensuring that his farm is one of many that can support the growth of the Nigerian food space through its farms.

Steve was placed on the hot sit by Corporate Farmers International TV, where he gave some insights into his farm and the Nigerian food security at large especially during this pandemic times.

Read excerpts below;

What prompt your decision of investing in the Agricultural Sector in Nigeria?

By 2050 Nigeria based on projections will become the 3rd most populated country in the world behind China and India. Our people need to eat and someone needs to work hard to provide the food. No nation is truly independent until she’s able to feed herself.

Tell Nigerians about your Farm, Babaeko Farms in Kogi State

#Babaekofarms is an initial 50 hectares farm project in Kogi stae, that’s focused primarily on growing and processing of oil palm. Our concept is to overlay tech on best agric practices to further boost productivity. We have @CorpFarmersTV as our technical partner.

What is your opinion about Nigeria Food Security System?

The Government is just beginning to move the needle but there’s a lot more to be done. There’s been interruption of farming activities in the Northeast, farmers/herders clashes in the south hasn’t helped food security either. Time to urgently make up 4 the shortfall is now!

Do you now think the Government is doing enough on Food Security in Nigeria?

The new policies re farming and agric are steps in the right direction + Border closure too. I believe Govt can do a lot more. We need to lower the average age of farmers in Nigeria. Make farming cool so younger people can embrace agric. The youths have novel ideas we can tap.

Politics / The World Now Depends On Farmers For Survival-akin Alabi by BrandAfriq: 10:25am On Apr 23, 2020
The global COVID-19 pandemic has really let countries thinking as they all continue to seek support from each other for survival and with situation like this, one cannot throw away agriculture (FOOD), as we all need to survive during this challenging period.

Seeking to see how the government and the youths can work to bring about the needed change in the Agric spheres, brandafriq.com had an exclusive interview with Agricultural Business Coach and co-founder Corporate Farmers TV international, Akin Alabi, who took his time to share some insights on how things can work for the food sector.
Read excerpts below;

As Nigeria struggles through the COVID-19 pandemic, how do you think farmers can survive this period?

It’s a difficult situation thou. But we must ensure to keep our Farmers (Rural& Urban) Safe & most importantly create awareness about the pandemic and what they need to do to stay safe.

At periods like this, everyone depends on food and considering the lockdown, how can government help farmers achieve better produce?

The only way Government can support any Farmer is to provides farm inputs to continue Production. Farm Production is CRITICAL at this time because the whole world now depend on the Farmer for Survival.

Now how readily are these farm lands available for farmers knowing that they have to go through a lot of process before they can even get land from the government?

Well for Farm Lands, it varies either you buy off to use or you lease. But Lands are always available for Farmers who are ready. It’s just going thru the process with the Ministry of Agric and it will be allocated. The most important part is.

That takes us to Agricultural Funding, a youth that wants to go into poultry, piggery and other livestock, do you think he can go through the various government challenges just to get funds/loan?

Absolutely No government or Bank will loan you. What he/ she needs to do is to start small with little capital via PERSONAL savings. It’s not necessarily starting Big. Gradually with Continuity the Business will grow & can apply for more funds to upscale.

The economic situation we find ourselves today as youths is not encouraging, making ends meet, takes time, how do we save, buy half plot of land even and start even poultry?

Well there are lots of initiatives that is encouraging youth in Nigeria such as Nigerian Youth Connect To Work initiative by Cellulant, the Tony Elumelu Foundation. This platform & others are created to support Youth #Startup especially those interested in.
