Computers / Smile And Spectranet Modems Are Being Hacked by brandmaster: 5:36pm On Apr 25, 2019
Since the beginning of the month, popular 4G networks Smile and Spectranet have encountered a major data breach which left most of their modems hacked. Smile claimed the issue has been resolved but users keep facing the same issue.

This issue started on April 20, 2019 when most smile subscribers noticed their modem name suddenly changed to jihatsu, when you sign on this, it takes you to a page asking
It’s quite sad both companies haven’t issued a press release, some of the worries are as follows: is there is a breach of data? is there network connections secured? Is there a chance that users information leaked or been infiltrated by these hackers.
Right now the permanent solution is taking the modem to their office as resetting the modem doesn’t fix the problem.

@OP, if you cannot upload pictures, then kindly delete this thread.

One thing I have learnt over the years, you don't just post people's pictures online without their permission. Plus there are better ways to ask for that,

Interesting15:
pictures.

Will seek permission before posting

Nice! I have declined twice the bid to hold thus huddle cos I have so much on me. From work to attending to kids, so if I have my saturdays free, I had better sleep or prepare clients reports.

Oh nice would be nice to see you at the next one

AtoningBlood15:

Hope you know that from May, connects will now be charged at15 cents per connect. Hope you got the email today.

Yes I am.aware though it will make the site harder for new freelancers but every top freelancer understand that it's a welcome development as you get a better chance to getting a job and everyone will bid will sense now. Since I have joined upwork I have never exhausted my connect the max I use is 30

Even in the mail upwork said it is not an upwork official meeting, so they don't need to send their representative. It's okay if they create such meetings for upwork freelancers to meet. It is not held in Nigeria one, freelancers meet in their countries/States all over the world and send upwork pictures/report.

Why do you think they treat Nigerians like second class citizons? I don't believe this, even guys from these countries you mentioned have their own issues with upwork, even on getting their profile approved.

I have no issues with their 20% service fees, even after the deductions I still earn more than times 3 of what I used to earn while in a telecom company.

They have their bills to pay too, so charging for connects is no big deal, if i spend $10 on connects monthly and I get even if it's one contract, it is better than traveling from East to Lagos for interview without winning the job.

I share one of my jobs with my sister earning 30k a month, she is getting almost ×2 of the 30k from me monthly. Her joy when I asked her to join me eeeeh, or whenever she receives alert, the prayer she will start praying eeeeh, hmmmm. I can't speak bad of upwork, never. I registered her but she isn't getting any offer, I get offers easiy and have all it takes by God's grace, so I just decided to assist her by training her to do a little of what I do.

There is no very good system on earth.

I think one thing everyone should learn is the act of gratitude. One of my student that was earning 60,000 per month, until I introduced her to upwork now earns a minimum of $1200 per month sometimes she earns $1500 per month, she had to tell her sister to quit her job of 40,000 to work for her on a salary of 80,000 .
I understand it's easy to feel used but the one thing I usually tell people is nobody will use you until you give them the permission.

Did anyone from Upwork company attend? If not, then too bad.

Upwork makes a lot of money from freelancers. In the 10 years I have been on that platform, I cannot count how much they have made from me, starting from the 8.75% fee up to now that they charge 20%. But yet, they still treat Nigerians like second class freelancers. Why is it that Nigerians are not allowed to register freely on their platforms? Are freelancers from Eastern Europe and Asia better than us? I think not.

It would have been good to ask them some salient questions, but that is if anyone from the company attended.

one thing I have learnt over the years is never to bite the hand that fed me, You said Upwork has made a lot of money from you, forgetting that they actually provide you an avenue to make more money that you could never have made in Nigeria. Yes I know its harder to get in the platform these days, some Nigerians have spoilt the platform for us, This same issue is been experienced by other users all over th world. Plus trust me its in your interest that they dont let every one register. Imagine 2000 people bidding for one job?
I quite agreee that the charges is high at 20% but trust me in some months I earn more than some bank managers after deducting their charges.

Upwork Huddle is a gathering of Upwork Freelancers in Nigeria. Guess what? I was lucky to organise it.
I am a top rated freelancer in Nigeria, I currently have 97% ratings on upwork. I have been on Upwork for over 7 years since the days of Odesk and Elance.
I have the opportunity to mentor and train hundreds of people on how to effectively use Upwork and looking back I thank God I already have students that have made over $20,000 $5,000, $1,000 and below from Upwork. This is one of my greatest testimonies. Some of my mentees have quitted their full-time jobs to face freelancing.
However, I was contacted by Upwork to host a Upwork huddle in Nigeria and it was a nice time meeting with other fellow Upwork freelancers in Nigeria. We had the time to discuss how to take Upwork freelancing to the next level in Nigeria and One of the take-home points was collaboration and joint wealth creation.
we had over 20 people in attendance and It was a lovely experience

Now I have to quickly Address this fast , most people make the mistake of having a generic proposal for their application. If you copy and paste there is a tendency your applications will not be considered, the way to do this is easy, apply for every job individually as a single project , so that the person will know you read the requirements. Eg if someone say I need a website developer to design a church website for me instead of focusing on your skills and saying what you've done before. It make sense if you focus on the job and how you plan to help out.
You may start like this. I am a professional website developer with ten years experience , I can work with HTML,CSS, PHP and I can also use different content management systems .
Being a passionate Christian myself , and Haven worked in the church all my life it will be a good opportunity to serve the Lord and also help in spreading the gospel to other parts of the world by designing a besboke website with the following functionalities (you have successfully captured his or her heart that you are passionate about God's work);
1. I will make it mobile optimized to make sure every one can visit the website from their mobile devices
2. It will be fast and user friendly
3. I will create a donation page for easy offering and tithe payment online
4. I will create an events page to make it easy to list all the events for the year.
5. I will build a robust back end that will be able to meet all your needs

After listing all this , there's no way the person won't call you for the job also freelancing is a skill that you need to learn , another thing that kill many people is they either under bid or over bid make sure you always go through the client payment history before you bid . For example someone that in their payment history the highest they ever paid was $4 per hour to a programmer and you want to do data entry and you are bidding $7 per hour that's a waste of your time .

Once you understand these basic facts it makes your bidding procesa easy

Nteogwuija:
I have most of those skills mentioned apart from programming and designs. Problem is I have applied for lots of jobs on Upwork but haven't gotten any. What could be the issue please?

Once you have equip yourself with all the necessary skills , the next step is to focus on the one or two freelance site , I will advise you to try and see which one works for you.
There is freelancer.com ,there is upwork and Fiverr

There are other ones too but these are the biggest but as a starter focus on one .

So my focus is upwork.com .

A little history about Upwork , I lt used to be Elance back in the days , it's a freelancing site that offers various job opportunities from website design, digital marketing , data entry , commeynt creation etc
The list is endless.

Before creating a profile is so easy but these days they have put in measures to cut off a lot of random people . So on order to get into the site you need to be well equipped with the right skills. So make sure you have all the necessary skills before registering. I can put you through how to achieve this in a few weeks .

Don't be in a rush to create a profile if it takes you a week no problem. But make sure you fill it to best standard .

Truth is, the kind of skills you want to learn will be dependent on you. Ask your self what you want to do, forst go to the freelancing site , see all the opportunities available , then ask yourself which can I do? Then start developing skills on it. Like I said if you go online and google you can get any skills you want, udemy isn't the only option

Ajet001:

Thanks for this sir,
What skills will you suggest one to learn?
Your tutelage is required.

Besides , the last time I checked out udemy the courses over there sells for $12.99.

Welcome ajet001 and timtim007
So before you even think of registering as a Freelancer , if you don't have the necessary skills , you first need to build a good number of skills , some or this can be done within a week , a month or few months and some can even be combined and you will learn then within a short period.

Every skills I have is self taught, I developed everything from trial and error , I am a very inquisitive person and I have this passion to learn more this has pushed me beyond what you can imagine.

So to develop the skills for free there are a couple of sites to visit , all it will cost you is time and data. Like I always say , if your visit to Facebook and other social media is not giving you money you are only making money for other people. Every time you visit social media someone is making money , there only person not making is you.
1. Facebook is making money from adverts
2. Your mobile operatorr is making money from your data that you are using to watch videos and the content creators are a also making money. So it's time to wise up and invest that time in making money too.

So the excuse I always hear is I don't have money for data. If you don't invest in yourself who will

So here are the sites

1. Udemy
2. Edx
3. Coursera
4. Openlearning
5. Microsoft Academy
6. Google free online turorial sites
There's no skill you want that you won't learn online for.free.

I have met a lot of people without the required skills trying hard to makes money online , sorry unfortunately your efforts will mostly go in vain. Even for people like us with over 15 top skills the hustle isn't easy talkless of people with one small skill like data entry. Your chances of making real money is pretty slim. So my first advice before you even think of registering on any freelancer site is get the skills.

1. Develop skills - the higher your skills the better your chances of making money. I will share some of the skills I have
1. Social media manager
2. SEO
3. Content development
4. Customer service skills
5. Website design
6. Email marketing
7. Email handling
8. Virtual assistance
9. Data entry
10 web research
11. Blogging
12. Graphics design
13. Sales
,14. Transcribing
15 online research
16. Testing
17 programming
18. Digital marketing
These are the ones I can remember I will keep updating this list.

Now you see these already gave me leverage than someone with just a data entry skill

Disclaimer
1. I am not selling ebooks
2. It is not another get rich quick scheme be
3. I am not selling accounts
4. It is a do it yourself thing
5. I Cannot guarantee you will make a dime. Your earning power lies in your hand but I will teach you everything you need to know to start earning.
6. I am looking for a few people to coach and mentor. Please note I can't mentor everybody.

I started freelancing since 2013 back in the days of elance.com . I didn't make a single dollar until after 4 months of trying different methods on Elance , like they say the hardest part is getting your first deal once you do everything else works.

I have made as high as $4000 from a single client and as low as $5 from other clients. I don't believe there is anything called Nigerian or foreign Account , I use my real name. I don't for once feel my country of birth has impacted on my earnings. I believe I am good at what I do and that will always earn me good money. Once you give out value, value will always come to you.
I can confidently say I have made thousands of dollars from freelancing. Please I am not here to prove anything cos I won't share my account details neither will I share my Upwork account. I am here for knowledge sharing.

So let's go straight to the point. There is nothing I will explain here that you wouldn't have already read on one of the posts here. But somehow you still have lots of questions running through your mind.
You can't seems to figure your head on how to get things done. How to send a killer proposal , how to create an amazing profile that will get approved. You are the reason why I created this tread. Sit back relax and let's enjoy the ride
