Izebe Evbogame, a Dental Student at the University of Benin has emerged winner of the 2020 OFIAR essay competition, organized by the Organisation for Impact and Reform, which is a body dedicated to mobilising for socio-economic and political transformation in Nigeria.

Samuel Irusota, a law graduate emerged second, while Abosede Oyinlola Samson, a 500 level Chemical Engineering Student at Obafemi Awolowo University came third.

The essay competition had 6 general themes centred on improving Nigeria and the participants were at liberty to pick any. "The Nigeria of My Dreams" was the favourite and got the most entries, including the wining entry.

The winner took home N150,000, N100,000 for the 2nd and N50,000 for the 3rd. Seven other participants who completed the top 10 got N20,000 each.

There was also a concurrent photography competition with the same prizes. This was won by Kester Kanayo, Temple Uzoma Maduoma and Favour Obioha.

Sir, it is not abnormal again, the new generation priests started the trend.

Bashing Pentecostal Pastors has become a norm among Nigerians, claiming that they live very flamboyant lives at the expense of their sheeple. Most people at the forefront of this bashing are Christians, mostly Catholics. They never fail to call Pastors "Pastorpreneurs".

Unfortunately, they have refused to remove the log in their eyes before trying to remove the log in other people's eyes. I dare say that Catholic Priest are also very money conscious and very flamboyant. Most of them got into Priesthood to escape poverty, and that's why they struggle so hard to get posted to Cities instead of villages.

Some priests in some churches have decided to be the sole signatory to the Church account and would refuse to give statements of account to the Church if asked, and when they are about to be transferred, they would make sure they take the whole money in the account and make the incoming Priest to start with no funds.
Priests now hardly stay in their Parishes, they are always traveling to one place or the other for programs, because they would get paid. There was a month my Parish Priest said Mass in our parish only 2 times, and the rest Sundays, he invited other priests because he traveled for a Program. And of course the visiting priest would also ask for money.

Catholic Priests are now doing competition for cars, most of them ride expensive cars, I even know of one who a Range Rover 2016 is part of his collection. A priest in Benin boldly stated that he was a car freak on the Alter. I bet that very soon, they would soon start buying their own private jets.

Apart from cars, They also put on expensive clothings and have expensive gadgets. You should hear some stories about priests and your mouth would be wide agape.

As we enter 2018, Catholics should leave Pentecostal Pastors alone and face Priests because they have been taking us for a ride and it would only get worse.

There is a thread on front page where the OP said majority of Pentecostals don't even pay tithe and it's the absolute truth because I'm one of them. When they call for tithes, only few people come out.
If they have been threatening me with fire or thunder, wouldn't I have the Church?

Catholics don't force their members to tithe, so no need to wade into the controversy. But one reason the Pentecostal churches are making more noise over tithing could be that unlike the Catholics that have a unified church ergo, unified wealth; Pentecostal are divided and sectarian. As such they need to raise funding for their individual ministries and the ostentation of their clergy. Tithe is the only lifeline of these mushroom Pentecostal churches that are springing up everywhere like daisies.

The bone of contention is whether Tithing is Biblical.

Not totally true, it is the usual "10% of your income". Some Catholic Churches collect tithes every first and last Sunday of the month.

Many Pentecostal churches don't also force their members to pay tithes. I don't think I've ever paid any tithe since I started attending Pentecostal churches.

Besides the bone of contention is not about forceful payment of tithe, it is about whether tithe is Biblical or not. So any Church that collects tithe is by association part of the Tithe crew that Freeze is bashing.

I have been observing the tithe issue since it started and I have observed that the heat has only been on Pentecostal Churches. For some, they would think that it is only Pentecostal churches that collect tithes, but even The Catholic Church collect tithes.

Why are Catholics silent on this issue and leaving Pentecostals to suffer the heat alone? Why are the Catholic Nairalanders or twitters not saying anything? Why is nobody asking the Pope or Bishops to explain why they collect tithes?

I know this might sound controversial, but it's the truth.

For sometime now, there has been so much controversy on tithes and how MOG enrich themselves with tithes. Many are of the opinion that the tithes should be donated and shared to the less privileged in the society. Having thought about it, I know it would be a bad idea as it would have a more detrimental effect.

Taking the North and Islam as a case study. It's a fact that the North has the highest number of buggers, both Alamjiris and matured people. Having stayed in the North, It is general knowledge that it is because of Zakaah and Sadaqah that has made so many of them very lazy. Some prefer to beg than to work, a poor man knowing fully well he can't even provide for himself would get married to 4 wives. They know that one way or the other, they would not go hungry and would make money because Zakaah and Sadaqah are compulsory.

For those who don't know the meaning of Sadaqah and Zakaah, it is a form of compulsory payment imposed on Muslims by The Quran, to provide for the poor.

If Churches start giving all the tithes to the poor, trust me, the amount of beggers would triple in Nigeria, because now both Christians and Muslims know that they don't have to work, but they would be provided for.

There should be better ways of utilizing the tithes, rather than giving it wholly to the poor.
