Build a real hospital not a makeshift

Don’t be deceived by these men and businesses donating billions of Naira to build a makeshift hospital due to the current pandemic. They are only working hard to protect their cash flow and reduce the impact of Covid-19 on their inventory mostly businesses with perishable goods. The pandemic will have more negative impact on these men than a common man. A simple example is the current oil price which is at $26/barrel and they fully understand that they don’t have the capacity to complete with Saudi Arabia and Russia. Also, they have no say in OPEC.

Education / Re: Is Spending N16M On A 3-Year Ph.D In The UK Worth It? by BriggsBryan: 10:17am On Mar 26, 2020
Please make further research as I fully understand that the average year fees for PhD is £13,500. Therefore, your 3 years fees will be £40,500.

Then, average shared apartment is £350/Month depending on the location. The total estimated rent for 3 years = £12,600.

Utilities, bus-pass and food estimated for 3 years = £18,000.

The total = £71,100 [N34 million]

However, you can do a part-time job of 20 hours/week @ £8.25/hour subject to increase. If you work for 3 years, your estimated income will be = £23,760. Also, the U.K. new immigration system will be friendly to you after your graduation.

If you have got a partner, he/she will bring in additional estimated income of = £43,200 within the 3 years. Also, your dependent children will have access to free education when they clock 5.

My advice: if you have got N16M for education, take a chance and thank me later.

Health / Coronavirus: Africa's Cases Above 1,000; Presidents Defy Own Travel Bans by BriggsBryan: 8:37pm On Mar 21, 2020
Africa's cases above 1,000; presidents defy own travel bans

Lockdowns have begun in Africa as coronavirus cases rise above 1,000, while Nigeria on Saturday announced it is closing airports to all incoming international flights for one month in the continent's most populous country.

Rwanda said all unnecessary movements outside the home are banned for two weeks as of midnight except for essential services such as health care and shopping. The East African nation, which has 17 cases, has told all public and private employees to work from home. Tunisia earlier imposed a lockdown as well.
Meanwhile, two African heads of state appeared to defy their own travel restrictions to attend another president’s inauguration.

Eritrea and Angola announced first cases, meaning 41 of Africa’s 54 countries are now affected. Congo reported its first death; Burkina Faso reported two new ones. Uganda is closing its borders to all but cargo. Ethiopia said all arriving passengers will face mandatory quarantine as of Monday. Somalia said it's lifting its ban on international flights for two days so stranded citizens can come home.

Nigeria's international flight ban came a day after Africa's busiest airport, in Johannesburg, blocked foreigners from disembarking and two major airlines — Ethiopian Airlines and South African Airways — announced sweeping cancellations of international flights.
The announcement came shortly after Nigeria reported its first cases in the capital, Abuja.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said “emergency and essential” flights are exempt from the ban that starts Monday. An adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, said Nigeria also plans to suspend all passenger rail services starting then.
While Angola closed its air, land and sea borders this week, Namibian media showed President Joao Lourenco at Saturday's inauguration of Namibian President Hage Geingob. Also in attendance was President Mokgweetsi Masisi of neighboring Botswana, which this week suspended international travel by all government employees. Namibia has three cases.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa also was there. He announced a national disaster even before his country confirmed its first virus case on Friday. On Saturday, his country announced the first case in the capital, Harare.

Africa now has more than 1,100 cases, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a new update late Saturday afternoon.

Burkina Faso now has the most virus deaths of any country in sub-Saharan Africa. The West African nation has one of the highest caseloads on the continent with 64.

Several government ministers in Burkina Faso have tested positive, including the minister of foreign affairs. On Friday, President Roch Marc Christian Kabore announced the country's two international airports would close for two weeks with the exception for military and cargo.

Burkina Faso is one of Africa’s most fragile states with a growing humanitarian crisis caused by attacks linked to Islamic extremists. More than 130 health centers have closed, affecting more than 1.5 million people, the government and aid groups say.

According to a government response plan seen by The Associated Press, emergency teams aren't trained for a respiratory disease outbreak and don't have appropriate protective gear.

There's also insufficient screening at borders. None of Burkina Faso’s 44 high-flow entry points have the needed personal protective equipment, and only 23% have coronavirus screening devices.
Jerry-Jonas Mbasha, cluster coordinator for the World Health Organization in Burkina Faso, said he was “much worried about what might happen in the next one week, two weeks from now.”

Most people only experience minor flu-like symptoms from the coronavirus and recover within a few weeks, but the virus is highly contagious and can be spread by those who appear well. It can cause severe illness, including pneumonia, in some patients, particularly those with underlying health problems.

More than 275,000 cases have been confirmed globally, including over 11,000 deaths, according to a running tally by Johns Hopkins University. At least 88,000 people have recovered.

In Nigeria, which just three weeks ago announced the first coronavirus case in sub-Saharan Africa, authorities said that first patient, a man who had traveled from Italy, was now fit to go home.

In Kenya, health officials continued to disinfect crowded markets in the capital, Nairobi, trying to stop the virus’ spread.
“It’s for the sake of us, it’s for the sake of the country,” said Simon Kimani, public health council chairman.

Sports / 11 Footballers Who Were Rich Before Football Including Hugo Lloris, Robin Van Pe by BriggsBryan: 9:18am On Mar 18, 2020
Make it to the very top of football and you could be set for life.
A recent survey by the Global Sports Salary Survey found that the average Premier League footballer earns £61,024 a week, which equates to more than £3 million a year.
Footballers’ wages are the subject of much controversy but only a small percentage of aspiring players actually make it, and the hard work they are required to put in deserves some reward.

But not every player had to wait until they reached the professional ranks to be wealthy.
Some, including Hugo Lloris, Gerard Pique and Patrick Bamford, were born into money, and didn’t have to wait until they could splash the cash.

Hugo Lloris
Tottenham Hotspur and France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who was named after the author of The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Victor Hugo, was born into wealth.
His mother Marie is a successful lawyer and his father Luc is an investment banker.
Lloris enjoyed an upper-class childhood in which he had daily tennis lessons.

Robin van Persie
Robin van Persie regularly showcased his creativity on the football pitch, so it should come as no surprise to learn that his parents are both artists.
His father, Bob, is a successful sculptor while his mother, Jose Ras, is a painter and jewellery designer.
The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker decided to pursue a different type of artistry.

Gerard Pique
Gerard Pique has won everything there is to win with Barcelona and is married to Colombian pop star Shakira, but he's no stranger to prosperty.
The Spaniard's dad, Joan, is a lawyer and businessman and his mother, Montserrat, is the director of a hospital in Barcelona.
His grandad, Amador Bernabeu, is a former director at Barcelona.

Patrick Bamford
Former Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford may be playing in the Championship for Leeds United but he had the chance to go to Harvard University in the US.
Bamford is a distant relative of Joseph Bamford, the founder of JCB, and was privately-educated, studying at Nottingham High School.

The 26-year-old achieved 10 GCSEs, including five A*s. He can also play the violin to Grade 7.
Bamford was the kid at school who excelled at everything, wasn’t he?

Mario Gotze
Mario Gotze’s father is renowned professor Jurgen Gotze.
The senior Gotze currently works at Dortmund University of Technology, but in the 1990s he was a member of the computer science department at America’s prestigious Yale University.

It’s been suggested that his father’s money and influence helped Gotze progress through the youth system at Borussia Dortmund.

Andrea Pirlo
Before Andrea Pirlo became a football legend, it was his father who was doing the family name proud.

Pirlo’s father founded a steel company in Brescia in 1982 and the former Juventus midfielder retains a stake in the family business.

Oliver Bierhoff
Former Germany forward Oliver Bierhoff enjoyed a fine career, playing for AC Milan and earning 70 international caps, and he may have developed his work ethic from his father.

Dr Rolf Bierhoff, an energy company chief, ensured that his son didn’t want for much as a child.
However, he also made sure that Bierhoff worked hard on the football pitch after his boy returned home from training with a spotless kit.

The story goes that Dr Bierhoff poured water on grass in their garden before telling Oliver to practise diving headers on the patch after it turned to ice.

Gianluca Vialli
Chelsea hero Gianluca Vialli grew up in a castle that had 60 rooms. Yes, really.

The son of a self-made millionaire, Vialli grew up in the enormous Castello di Belgioioso in Cremona. He still holidays there from time to time.

Will Hughes
Will Hughes attended the same super-posh Repton School in Derbyshire as Jeremy Clarkson, Roald Dahl and Basil Rathbone.

While little else is known about the Watford midfielder’s upbringing, it’s clear that he didn’t go without.

Michael Doughty
Swindon Town midfielder Michael Doughty is the son of the late Nottingham Forest owner Nigel Doughty.

Nigel Doughty’s net worth in 2011 was estimated to be £130 million, making him the 537th wealthiest person in Britain.
The co-chairman and co-founder of a European private equity firm, Nigel put more than £100m into Forest before he passed away in 2012.

Faiq Bolkiah
Introducing Faiq Bolkiah, the world’s richest footballer.
You might never have heard of him, but Bolkiah is the nephew of the Sultan of Brunei - who is worth an estimated $20 billion.

Bolkiah joined Leicester City from Chelsea in 2016 but it’s hard to find any recent news about him, so it’s not exactly clear whether he still plays for the Foxes.
With that kind of wealth, Bolkiah could be anywhere on the planet right now.

Foreign Affairs / Islamic State Supporter Admits Plotting To Bomb St Paul's Cathedral London by BriggsBryan: 2:47pm On Feb 21, 2020

A female supporter of the Islamic State terror group has pleaded guilty to plotting to bomb St Paul's Cathedral and a hotel
.

Safiyya Amira Shaikh, 36, from Hayes, Middlesex, admitted preparation of terrorist acts and dissemination of terrorist publications at a hearing at the Old Bailey.

Shaikh, a Muslim convert, had contacted someone who could prepare explosives and went on a reconnaissance trip to scope out the historic site and a hotel as locations to plant bombs.
She prepared the words of a pledge of allegiance to the group, also known as Isis or Daesh, between August 2019 and October 2019.

She also shared terrorist documents via groups using the Telegram messaging app over the same period.
The facts were not opened in court, but according to a prosecution case summary, Shaikh had stated her main aim was to kill as many people as possible in a suicide attack on St Paul's.

She only confided her plan to two people, the online explosives expert and his wife, unaware that they were undercover officers.

The British defendant was born Michelle Ramsden to a non-Muslim family and converted to Islam in 2007.
She began to follow extremists online and by 2015 had become radicalised, the prosecution alleged.
The defendant, who wore a black robe, spoke quietly as she entered her guilty pleas before Mr Justice Sweeney at the Old Bailey.
Mr Justice Sweeney ordered Shaikh to be remanded in custody until sentencing on 12 May.

Foreign Affairs / Full Details Of New UK Immigration System And how It Benefits Nigerians by BriggsBryan: 9:02pm On Feb 19, 2020
On 19 February 2020, the Government published a policy statement setting out details of the UK’s points-based immigration system.

These new arrangements will take effect from 1 January 2021, once freedom of movement with the European Union (EU) has ended. They treat EU and non-EU citizens equally and aim to attract people who can contribute to the UK’s economy. Irish citizens will continue to be able to enter and live in the UK as they do now.

What is a points-based immigration system?

Under a points-based immigration system points are assigned for specific skills, qualifications, salaries or professions. Visas are then awarded to those who gain enough points.

Will EU citizens need a visa to visit the UK?

EU citizens and other non-visa nationals will not require a visa to enter the UK when visiting the UK for up to 6 months. All migrants looking to enter the UK for other reasons (such as work or study) will need to apply for a visa in advance.

EU citizens, along with citizens of Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the USA, Singapore and South Korea - with biometric passports - will continue to be able to use automatic eGates to cross the UK border.

What is the new skilled worker route?

A new skilled worker visa will prioritise migrants with the highest skill-levels and the most experience. Someone will be able to apply for this visa if they’ve been offered a skilled job in the UK by an approved employer sponsor.

Following recommendations from the MAC, we have lowered the skills threshold for skilled workers to provide employers with added flexibility.

From January 2021, the job will need to be at a required skill level of RQF3 or above (equivalent to A level). They’ll also need to be able to speak English and pass criminality checks. The minimum salary threshold will be reduced to £25,600.

If a person earns less than this - but no less than £20,480 - they may still be able to apply by ‘trading’ points on specific characteristics against their salary. For example, if they have a job offer in a shortage occupation or have a PhD relevant to the job.

What about highly skilled workers?

From January 2021 the global talent route will be opened up to EU citizens. The route has recently been reformed, removing the cap on numbers, increasing the number of endorsing bodies and rebranded to maximise the attractiveness of this offer.

In addition, the route has been expanded to include a new fast-track scheme for top scientists and researchers to come to the UK without a job offer.

In line with the recommendations from the MAC, we will create a broader unsponsored route within the points-based system to run alongside the employer-led system. This will allow a smaller number of the most highly skilled workers to come to the UK without a job offer.

Will there be a low-skilled worker route?

The new immigration system will not include an immigration route specifically for low-skilled workers. This will shift the focus of the UK’s economy away from a reliance on cheap labour from Europe and instead concentrate on investment in technology and automation.

EU citizens resident in the UK by 31 December 2020 can still apply to settle in the UK through the EU Settlement Scheme until June 2021. The Seasonal Workers Pilot scheme will also be expanded from 2,500 to 10,000 places recognising the significant reliance the agricultural sector has on low-skilled temporary workers.

What will change for international students and graduates?

Student visa routes will be opened up to EU citizens. A person will be able to apply for a visa to study in the UK if they have been offered a place on a course, can speak, read, write and understand English and have enough money to support themselves and pay for their course.

A new graduate immigration route will be available to international students who have completed a degree in the UK. They will be able to work, or look for work, in the UK at any skill level for up to 2 years.

Foreign Affairs / Breaking News: New UK Immigration Roles Announced After Brexit by BriggsBryan: 10:35am On Feb 19, 2020
Immigration: No visas for low-skilled workers, government says

The main features will be:
No visas for low-skilled workers - the likes of restaurant, care home and food processing plant staff.

Visitors - from EU or non-EU countries - will be able to come to the UK for six months without a visa, but won't be able to work.

Overseas workers will have to speak English and have the offer of a skilled job with an "approved sponsor".

They'll also need to collect points elsewhere - with certain qualifications, for example - in order to clear the 70-point hurdle.

Low-skilled workers would not get visas under post-Brexit immigration plans unveiled by the government.
It is urging employers to "move away" from relying on "cheap labour" from Europe and invest in retaining staff and developing automation technology.
The Home Office said EU and non-EU citizens coming to the UK would be treated equally after UK-EU free movement ends on 31 December.
Labour said the "hostile environment" will make it hard to attract workers.
But Home Secretary Priti Patel said the new system was about bringing "the brightest and the best" to the UK.

She told BBC Breakfast the government wants to "encourage people with the right talent" and "reduce the levels of people coming to the UK with low skills".
She added that the system would "make sure that we have a high-skilled, highly trained and highly productive economy in the future".
BBC Briefing: Your guide to immigration
How could a UK points-based immigration system work?

How has immigration changed in your area?
The government, which said it was aiming to reduce overall migration to the UK, wants a "points-based" immigration system - as it promised in its election manifesto.
Under the scheme, overseas workers who wanted to come to the UK would have to speak English and have the offer of a skilled job with an "approved sponsor".
They would be awarded 50 points if they fulfil these criteria.

'Adapt and adjust'
In total, immigrants would have to reach 70 points to be able to work in the UK, with points also being awarded for qualifications, the salary on offer and working in a sector with shortages.
But the government said it would not introduce a route for lower-skilled workers, urging businesses to "adapt and adjust" to the end of free movement between EU countries and the UK.
"It is important employers move away from a reliance on the UK's immigration system as an alternative to investment in staff retention, productivity and wider investment in technology and automation," it said.
Instead, it said the 3.2 million EU citizens who have applied to continue staying in the UK could help meet labour market demands.

The government also pointed to a quadrupling of the scheme for seasonal workers in agriculture to 10,000, as well as "youth mobility arrangements", which allow 20,000 young people to come to the UK each year.
While the CBI welcomed some of the proposals, it said some firms would be "left wondering how they will recruit the people needed to run their businesses".
The business lobby group's director general, Carolyn Fairbairn, said: "Firms know that hiring from overseas and investing in the skills of their workforce and new technologies is not an 'either or' choice - both are needed to drive the economy forward."
Speaking to Radio 4's Today programme, Madeleine Sumption, director of the University of Oxford's Migration Observatory, suggested that the transition to the new system could be difficult for employers who have become reliant on low wage workers.
She said: "Some employers will be able to adjust [to the system] maybe by introducing more labour-saving techniques, such as machinery.

"In some cases that won't be feasible and for them the questions are: can they find other sources of workers; will they produce less, or will they go out of business?"
The Royal College of Nursing raised concerns the proposals will "not meet the health and care needs of the population", while Unison assistant general secretary Christina McAnea said the plans "spell absolute disaster for the care sector".

The UK Homecare Association described the lack of provision for low-paid workers in the proposals as "irresponsible", with a spokesman saying they were "dismayed" by the government's decision.
"Cutting off the supply of prospective care workers under a new migration system will pave the way for more people waiting unnecessarily in hospital or going without care," they added.

Meanwhile, National Farmers' Union president Minette Batters raised "serious concerns" about the "failure to recognise British food and farming's needs" in the plans.
And the Food and Drink Federation spoke of concerns about bakers, meat processors and workers making food like cheese and pasta not qualifying under the new system.
The government's proposed immigration system represents a balancing act - broadening the base of skilled labour while restricting the flow of those seeking lower-skilled jobs.

People wanting to come to the UK from outside the EU will find rules are being relaxed, such as scrapping the cap on skilled workers or the drop in minimum salary.
But for EU migrants who are used to moving freely between Britain and the continent, the new regime will be something of a shock.
Visitors can come for six months without a visa, but they won't be able to work, those with skills must have a job offer and clear the 70 points hurdle, and there'll be no work permits for migrants prepared to do menial jobs in restaurants, hotels, care homes and food processing plants.

There is some flexibility in the new structure. But the question is, will it be enough to prevent labour shortages and companies taking their business elsewhere?
Under the new plan, all migrants will only be entitled to access income-related benefits until after indefinite leave to remain is granted, usually after five years.
Currently, EU nationals in the UK can claim benefits if they are "economically active". Non-EU citizens become eligible for benefits when they are granted permanent residence, which usually requires five years of living legally in the UK.

Following recommendations from the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), the salary threshold for skilled workers wanting to come to the UK would be lowered from £30,000 to £25,600.
The independent advisory body argued that lowering the threshold would help recruit teachers and skilled NHS staff.

Unlike the current system, applicants would also be able to trade points.
Those earning less than £25,600, but more than £20,480, could still apply for visas if they had a job in a "specific shortage occupation" or a PhD relevant to the job.

A list of shortage occupations would be kept under review by the MAC, the government said.
Jobs currently on the MAC's Shortage Occupation List include civil engineers, medical practitioners, nurses, psychologists and classical ballet dancers.
Shadow home secretary Diane Abbott said the salary threshold system would "need to have so many exemptions, for the NHS, for social care and many parts of the private sector, that it will be meaningless".
She added: "Ultimately, it will also be very difficult to attract the workers we need at all skill levels while the Tories' hostile environment is in place. It needs to go."
Under the new plan, there would no longer be an overall cap on the number of skilled workers who could come into the UK - one of the areas praised by the CBI.
Following recommendations from MAC, the definition of skilled workers would also be expanded to include those educated at A-level, not just at graduate level, as was previously the case.

But waiting staff roles would be removed from the list of skilled occupations, while new additions would include carpenters, plasterers and childminders.
To study in the UK, overseas students would need the offer of a place at an educational institution, have to know English, and be able to show they can support themselves.

Changes to the system would be implemented through an immigration bill needing approval from MPs and peers to come into force.
Shadow immigration minister Bell Ribeiro-Addy told the BBC's Newsnight: "I feel like people have been duped a bit. We were told this was an Australian style points-based system.

"The Australian system is meant to encourage migration across sectors. I know that they don't want to do that, but why are you calling it one thing when it's another?"
Liberal Democrat home affairs spokeswoman Christine Jardine said the proposals were based on "xenophobia".
Meanwhile, Scotland's first minister and SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said the plans would be "devastating" for the Scottish economy.

She added: "Our demographics mean we need to keep attracting people here - this makes it so much harder.
"Getting power over migration in the Scottish Parliament is now a necessity for our future prosperity."

Sports / Twitter Reacts As Odion Ighalo Makes Man Utd Debut by BriggsBryan: 11:48am On Feb 18, 2020
'Liverpool fans in Nigeria wanted Odion Ighalo to score': Manchester United man makes debut and Twitter reacts
Some things transcend football rivalry.
Whether you thought Odion Ighalo's debut for Manchester United would do that is another matter.
Just over two weeks ago the boyhood United fan sealed a shock loan move to Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scrambled to sign cover for the injured Marcus Rashford.

On Monday, the 30-year-old was thrown on in stoppage time in United's 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, fluffing a late chance to crown his brief debut with a goal after being slipped through by Fred.

In doing so he became the first Nigerian to play for Manchester United and Twitter user @Sonjoe_Kutuh said: "In Nigeria, Liverpool fans, Arsenal fan, Man City fans and Tottenham fans were supporting Ighalo tonight. Our own!!!"
Another replied: "Even the Chelsea fans low key."

Headed goals from Anthony Martial and captain Harry Maguire earned Manchester United their hard-fought win, putting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side back in the hunt for a top-four Premier League finish.
VAR controversy made the headlines once again after two Chelsea efforts were ruled out and England international Maguire escaped sanction for a kick out at Michy Batshuayi.
But it was Ighalo's cameo which stole the headlines for many.

Squawka tweeted: "Odion Ighalo managed as many shots on target in #CHEMUN as the entire Chelsea team combined (1).
Odion Ighalo came on in the 91st minute."
Samuel Luckhurst wrote: "A Chelsea fan just shouted at Ighalo: 'Go back to China'. He turned around and just smiled at the prat."

Ighalo's brief spell on the Stamford Bridge pitch made him the 200th player to feature for Manchester United, and came after just one training session with his new team-mates.
The January signing had been training away from the club's Carrington complex since signing on loan from the Chinese Super League amid fears surrounding the coronavirus.

There is no suggestion he contracted the virus, but following Ighalo's flight in from China the club put measures in place to be certain before allowing him to train alongside his new colleagues.
It makes it all the more remarkable that Ighalo nearly capped his debut with a goal - a 'what if' moment many fans refelcted on at the final whistle.
@TheManUtdWay said: "OH MY! Ighalo was put in on goal and was so close to having a goal for United inside seconds of his debut. What a moment that would've been!"

@JibrilAdeyeye1 replied: "If Odion had scored that goal, Nigeria would have announced tomorrow as a national public holiday."
@RiZzyUTD added: "I would've celebrated like mad if Ighalo scored that. It wasn't to be though."
Ighalo will get another chance when United travel to Club Brugge on Thursday.

The five WhatsApp warnings every user needs to act on right now

Tech boffins have now issued some top advice on how to stay safe and Android and iPhone users should be aware of the warning
WhatsApp has become a prime target for cyber attacks and the spread of malicious malware.
The Facebook-owned service recently announced thatit now has two billion users worldwidewhich makes it the biggest chat app on the planet.
Tech boffins have now issued some top advice on how to stay safe and Android and iPhone users should be aware of the warnings, the Express reports .
Here are some top tips if you are a WhatsApp user.

Set up Two-Step Verification:
Two-step verification adds an additional layer of protection by requiring your six-digit PIN when resetting and verifying your WhatsApp account. This helps prevent your WhatsApp account being accessed in the event of your SIM card being stolen or your phone number compromised.
Setting up two-step verification is simple, and can be found in the ‘Account’ tab within WhatsApp settings.

• Get Your Profile Privacy updated:
It's possible to control what details you share with others on WhatsApp in your personal profile. The app lets you decide who you’d like to share your profile information with – whether that’s everyone, just your contacts, or nobody.
Restrict your Last Seen, Profile Photo, About and Status within WhatsApp’s privacy setting menu.

• Sort Your Group Privacy Settings:
The Group Privacy setting enables you to control who adds you to a WhatsApp group – enabling you to pick and choose which group chats you’d like to be a part of.
Android users urgently warned to delete 17 apps immediately - and they've had 550,000 downloads
WhatsApp will stop working on these iPhones and Android devices next week
To enable it, go to Settings in your app, then tap Account > Privacy > Groups and select one of three options: “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” or “My Contacts Except”. “My Contacts” means only users you have in your address book can add you to groups and “My Contacts Except” provides additional control for who among your contacts can add you to a group.

• Lock your WhatsApp with Touch ID or Face ID:

Add an extra layer of security to their accounts with Touch ID and Face ID for iPhone, and Fingerprint lock for Android.
As with many banking apps, decide whether you would like WhatsApp to automatically lock you out of the app as soon as you close the app, or after various durations of inactivity.
Follow the links to enable Android Fingerprint or Touch ID and Face ID.

• Update the app regularly:
Many updates involve new and improved security features. To ensure your security standard is always top notch, make sure your WhatsApp is updated to the newest version available.
If your phone does not have its auto-update setting turned on, you will need to manually update WhatsApp by going to your phone’s app store, searching for WhatsApp, and tapping ‘update’.
Keep your mobile phone operating system up to date to get the latest security protections from Apple or Google.
Sports / This Is What The UK Newspaper (the Telegraph) Have To Say About Odion Ighalo. by BriggsBryan: 9:16am On Feb 17, 2020

Odion Ighalo's amazing story: From 'dustbin' slum to Theatre of Dreams

In the teeming Lagos slum of Ajegunle, home to a “Dustbin Estate” built on a swamp and bisected by a sewer, there tend to be only two means of escape. Either you find your niche in music, drawing inspiration from the ghetto’s vibrant tribal mix, or you try out as a footballer.

There are abundant reasons why AJ City, as it is dubbed by locals, is today recognised as a cradle of the finest talent in the Nigerian game. When, in 1985, the country’s under-16s became the first African team to win a World Cup, five players hailed from this district. So did Emmanuel Amunike, once a winger for Barcelona under Louis van Gaal. And so, too, does Odion Ighalo, who tonight is expected to complete the road less travelled by making his debut for Manchester United.
They had almost forgotten about Ighalo in Ajegunle. He had already announced his retirement from international football, bowing out as top scorer in last year’s Africa Cup of Nations, while a club career that had most recently taken him to Changshun and Shanghai signalled a gentle slide towards the margins. That was until United, more out of desperation for a striker than planning, called his agents to secure a last-gasp emergency loan deal. Plucked from exotic obscurity at the age of 30, Ighalo today finds his face plastered all over the streets of his home city.
Oluwashina Okeleji has known Ighalo since he was 16, when he was still toiling for local Nigerian sides and chasing the all-important move to Europe. He is as astonished by the latest turn of events as anybody. “This is quite a remarkable story,” says Okeleji, who was also brought up in Ajegunle and is now an expert on African football. “Everyone thought, when he left for China, he was done and dusted. But if you go around Lagos, lots of signs are being put up for viewing centres for United’s game against Chelsea. The selling point is Ighalo’s debut. People want to see this.”
Outside Nigeria, the reflex reaction to Ighalo’s hasty arrival at Old Trafford has been to depict it as a panic buy, a damning reflection of United’s diminished market power. The two weeks that he had to spend training away from the main squad, due to coronavirus precautions enforced after his journey from Shanghai, have sharpened the image of a player on the outside looking in.

It is, in every sense, a myopic perspective. For all its intractable complexities, Nigeria is a land of 206 million people and potentially the Premier League’s greatest untapped market. Up to 80 million are estimated to be regular followers of its matches, most congregating in vast viewing spaces to replicate the stadium feel. For a club as commercially acquisitive as United, Ighalo’s addition could be seen not so much as an act of last resort but as a priceless opportunity.

Since the Premier League’s inception in 1992, players from 40 countries have represented United, but none from the world’s seventh most-populous nation. The club claimed in 2006 to have signed papers with John Obi Mikel, before the midfielder controversially announced he was joining Chelsea. Capturing Ighalo, albeit in the autumn of his career, corrects a conspicuous missing link.

“Every year there are about 100 Nigerian kids dreaming of playing in the Premier League, but they all know that there’s no direct access,” Okeleji explains. “So, they do everything to be snaffled by a club in Europe, and then use it as a springboard to England. Aiyegbeni Yakubu and Celestine Babayaro both succeeded, but no one has left a huge mark since Nwankwo Kanu. All those who supported Arsenal because of Kanu have changed to being United fans overnight. With Ighalo going to United, there are others who will be motivated and inspired by his journey.”

Last November, Ighalo, a profoundly devout man, made the mistake of tweeting a picture of himself on an ostentatious armchair, with the caption: “Favour over labour.” Many Nigerians excoriated him for the remark, taking this impression of entitlement as a sign of indolence, arguing that if he had never laboured, then favour could never find him. Ighalo, though, has had the last word in spectacular style, profiting from the type of coup not even divine providence could have conjured.

Through life, Ighalo has been anything but egocentric. “When I first saw him as a teenager, I could tell that he had a chance,” Okeleji explains. “Where we grew up, if you take the wrong path you could end up doing drugs, attacking people, selling fake Armani bags in the middle of the road. But he came from a strong family, with older brothers to protect him from these dangers. He and his twin sister were the last born, and he left the ghetto very early.

“He had trials in Portugal and eventually ended up at Lyn Oslo. The moment he arrived in Norway, he told his mum he was cold. Still, his attitude was that he couldn’t go home empty-handed, that he couldn’t go back to the life he was living before he left for Europe.”
The Norwegian connection proved another propitious circumstance in steering him towards United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remembered him from his two seasons in Oslo, while Ighalo’s agents had also dealt with the manager’s long-standing representative, Jim Solbakken. For all that Ighalo has scarcely concealed his euphoria at securing such a move, his off-field activities suggest an unbreakable attachment to his native land.

At Udinese, he spoke of his resolve to build a place in Nigeria in which the destitute still had a chance to thrive, and he has made good on that promise by creating an orphanage in his name in Lagos. The project, on which he has spent £1 million so far, can accommodate up to 40 children, taking orphaned babies and pledging to look after them until they turn 18.

When Ighalo, who, despite his fortune has no permanent base outside Lagos, turned up last Christmas to inspect the premises, he was venerated, followed through the front door by a brass band.
The happiness of his improbable United switch is tempered, however, by the loss of his sister Mary, who died in December aged just 43 after collapsing at her home. It is her name that will be stitched on his red boots against Chelsea tonight, alongside the Nigerian flag. Health / Nigeria: UK, Nigeria Launch £10m Partnership To Tackle Threat Of Drug Resistance by BriggsBryan: 11:06am On Feb 15, 2020
Nigeria: UK, Nigeria Launch £10m Partnership to Tackle Threat of Drug Resistance

The UK Government has formally launches a £10.7million partnership with Nigeria aimed at tackling drug resistance through improving public health surveillance systems, upgrading laboratory equipment, and training technicians and scientists.
Representatives from Nigeria’s Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Environment celebrated this new collaboration at a reception hosted by the UK’s High Commissioner.

The partnership is part of The Fleming Fund, a £265 million programme by UK Aid to tackle the growing threat of drug resistance – referred to as antimicrobial resistance (AMR) – in low and middle-income countries around the world.
AMR occurs when bacteria survive exposure to antibiotics that would normally kill them. Researchers estimate some 700,000 people die each year from these drug resistant infections. It is believed that if the current trends continue, drug resistance could claim up to 10 million lives a year and cost £85 trillion by 2050.
Fundamental changes in the way antibiotics are consumed and manufactured around the world is needed to manage this risk. More comprehensive data is also needed to better understand how resistance develops and how drugs are used around the world.
The Fleming Fund, managed by the UK Department of Health and Social Care in partnership with Mott MacDonald, the Fleming Fund Grant Management Agent targets the core of these issues by improving surveillance of antimicrobial resistance and drug use in humans and animals.

The Fund also supports laboratory infrastructure development, global technical expertise advancement in AMR, and encourages appropriate use of antibiotics in humans, animals and the environment.
In Nigeria, the Fleming Fund has appointed DAI to support Nigeria’s surveillance system, in partnership with the Nigerian AMR coordination committee and other key partners.
Investments and activities in Nigeria to date include: The appointment of 10 professional fellows who are receiving training on specific skills including data management, microbiology, epidemiology and biosafety to help tackle AMR; investment in 18 laboratories across the country.

Commenting on the announcement, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Catriona Laing CB, said: “Today’s announcement is a further demonstration of the UK’s commitment to working with Nigeria to help tackle global issues. Antimicrobial resistance is already killing hundreds of thousands of people across the world each year.

The UK’s Fleming Fund will help support the development of critical disease surveillance infrastructure, drive innovation, and build greater scientific links between the UK and Nigeria; to help protect Nigerians against this growing health threat.
The Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu said: “At the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, our core mandate is to prevent, detect, and control diseases of public health relevance.

This includes threats such as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). With support from the UK government through the Fleming Fund; we are improving our laboratory capacity, surveillance of AMR and use of data in Nigeria, using a One Health approach.
This partnership is beneficial and extends beyond AMR. It is helping to strengthen One Health collaboration in Nigeria, enabling prompt diagnosis of infectious diseases and advancing the health security of Nigerians.”

West Africa Regional Lead, Fleming Fund Management Agent, Mott MacDonald, Janine Mitchell, said: “It has been a wonderful experience to work alongside officials from the Government of Nigeria, who have been so engaged with the Fleming Fund and the design of this grant.

With support through our partners, we hope this will eventually allow the Government of Nigeria to improve its understanding of the AMR problem and to prepare appropriate strategies to tackle it.”

Manchester City: Predicting 10 things that will happen after their European ban
By Kobe Tong
Manchester City have been banned from European competitions for the next two seasons.
The Citizens were found to have breached Financial Fair Play rules and will therefore be absent from the Champions League or Europa League for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 campaigns.
However, there is one huge caveat surrounding the news and it's the fact that City have confirmed in a statement that they will appeal the resolution in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
But hold that thought. Here at GIVEMESPORT, we've decided to dust off our crystal ball and try to imagine how the world of football would look if City's two-year ban from Europe is truly upheld.
Such is the unpredictable nature of football that there's no way of telling for sure, but here are the 10 things that we think will happen on the assumption the Citizens fail in their attempts to appeal:

1. MAN CITY CRASH OUT AGAINST REAL MADRID
You could argue that City's ban will give them an extra fire to win their first Champions League title in their final attempt for three years, but we're convinced it will only add more and more pressure.
Combine that with the fact City are playing against Zinedine Zidane's Real - a combination that has won the competition every single time time - and you have yourself a recipe for disaster.
We're predicting them to lose comfortably at the Bernabeu, maybe 3-1 or something similar, and bow out of the competition in front of their own fans with a brave, albeit insufficient, 1-0 win.

2. LEROY SANE LEAVES THIS SUMMER
Some supporters are getting ahead of themselves by suggesting they'll be a mass exodus at the Etihad Stadium, but only a select few players will see this as the right point to leave.
Sane is the one we can be almost certain about. The German was linked to Bayern Munich all summer long and now any doubts in his mind can be dispelled by the prospect of two years away from Europe.
You can expect the Citizens to mount little in the way of a defence and they'll welcome the hefty transfer fee, probably in the region of £90-100million, with open arms to help cover their fine.

3. PEP GUARDIOLA WILL LEAVE... IN 2021
As much as rival fans like to think Guardiola will jump ship this summer, the Catalan is pretty loyal when it comes to contracts and he even floated the idea of signing a new deal in November.
So, yes, it looks as though expulsion from the Champions League will encourage Guardiola to leave, but we feel confident that he'll see out his contract just like he did at Bayern Munich.
Plus, there's more than enough incentive going into the 2020/21 campaign as he'll look to dethrone Liverpool for a third league title without having to deal with European fixture congestion.

4. SO WILL SERGIO AGUERO
Speaking of people who are out of contract in 2021, there's also Aguero and UEFA's ruling has probably sorted out the landscape of his City future so he doesn't have to.
At 32 years old, it makes sense for the Argentine to throw the kitchen sink at the Champions League one last time this season and then see out his contract with a victory-lap campaign akin to David Silva's.
Aguero has previously admitted that a move to boyhood club Independiente would become his next priority, but don't rule out an Atletico Madrid reunion if he's still feeling fresh in Europe.

5. JOSE MOURINHO WILL SNEAK INTO THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

Sorry Sheffield United, as much as we'd love to see the Blades playing against Real Madrid and Barcelona in mid-week, we believe that Tottenham Hotspur could benefit the most here.
It seems inevitable that City will finish in the top four and consequently, the team in fifth will also be bumped up to the Champions League and Mourinho will be waiting in the wings to pounce.
They'll move above Chris Wilder's men if they win their game in hand and if anybody can sneak their way through the backdoor into Europe's premier competition, you just know it's the 'Special One'.

6. SHEFFIELD UNITED WILL QUALIFY FOR EUROPE
But fear not Blades fans, news of City's ban has almost certainly confirmed a dream spot in the Europa League just one year after leaping up from the Championship. You love to see it.

7. EVERTON QUALIFY FOR THE EUROPA LEAGUE
City's ban also has an impact on qualification for the Champions League's little brother and especially as we're predicting Guardiola's men to overcome Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup final.
That means that as low as eighth place in the Premier League could qualify for Europe and we're expecting Everton to maintain their current trajectory to play on the continent.

8. BIDDING WAR ENSUES FOR KEVIN DE BRUYNE
Europe's biggest clubs are going to make the Etihad Stadium their shop window in the absence of Champions League football and the club's star man De Bruyne will be the headline attraction.
Real Madrid and Juventus could launch bids if they can't buy Paul Pogba; Barcelona might dip into potential Philippe Coutinho funds and Paris Saint-Germain may chance their arm if Neymar leaves.
However, we think De Bruyne will be encouraged by the extra season under Guardiola that we're predicting and bask in being the number one at a club as he heads towards his thirties.

9. LIVERPOOL STILL WIN THE 2020/21 PREMIER LEAGUE
You would think that City would become secret favourites for next year's Premier League without the burden of playing in Europe. Just like Antonio Conte's Chelsea of 2016/17, if you will.
There's just one problem: Liverpool are objectively the greatest team in Premier League history.
As a result, we're predicting a genuinely close title race unlike this season, but that Jurgen Klopp will be so hellbent on retaining the trophy that Liverpool will still have the edge come May 2021.

10. KEY PLAYERS STAY FOR THE LONG RUN
It's not going to be all doom and gloom for City, so expect some of their younger players who are getting both decent money and game time to persist through two years in the wilderness.
Raheem Sterling should rightfully see himself as City's star man in the waiting, so should stick it out and it makes sense for the likes of Ederson, Aymeric Laporte and Rodri to follow suit.
Plus, more inevitable departures like Fernandinho and Silva, as well as a possible drop in transfer activity, should see Phil Foden finally given the first-team opportunities he deserves.

POTENTIAL DETERRENT FOR OTHER CLUBS
It's not all bad for City... but it isn't great either.
If City are indeed found to have been grossly negligent in the face of FFP rules, then this harsh verdict must be seen as a positive for the sport.
And regardless of whether our 10 predictions come true or not, there are bound to be enough negative consequences to ensure other European clubs try to avoid the same fate.

Sports / Manchester City To Appeal 2-year UEFA Competition Ban For FFP Violations by BriggsBryan: 11:43pm On Feb 14, 2020
MANCHESTER CITY WILL appeal UEFA's decision to ban the club for two seasons from European competition -- including the Champions League -- after the governing body found them guilty of breaching financial fair play rules.

UEFA announced on Friday that the reigning Premier League champions will be excluded from the Champions League for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns and have also been fined €30 million ($33 million) for "overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts" and failing "to cooperate in the investigation," according to findings by the UEFA Adjudicatory Chamber.

In response, City said they were "disappointed but not surprised" by the ruling and gave notice of their intention to lodge an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Sources have told ESPN that City believe UEFA's process has been flawed and that they remain confident they will be cleared of any wrongdoing once their appeal is heard by an independent body. Sources have told ESPN that, until then, the club will go about their business "as usual."

A UEFA statement issued on Friday night partly read: "The Adjudicatory Chamber, having considered all the evidence, has found that Manchester City Football Club committed serious breaches of the UEFA Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations by overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012 and 2016.
"The Adjudicatory Chamber has also found that in breach of the regulations the Club failed to cooperate in the investigation of this case by the [chamber's Club Financial Control Body].

"The Adjudicatory Chamber has imposed disciplinary measures on Manchester City Football Club directing that it shall be excluded from participation in UEFA club competitions in the next two seasons [ie. the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons] and pay a fine of €30 million."
City, who face Real Madrid in the last-16 of this season's competition, issued their own statement shortly afterward to declare their anger at how the case has been handled by Europe's governing body.
"Manchester City is disappointed but not surprised by today's announcement by the UEFA Adjudicatory Chamber," the team statement said. "The club has always anticipated the ultimate need to seek out an independent body and process to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence in support of its position.

"In December 2018, the UEFA Chief Investigator publicly previewed the outcome and sanction he intended to be delivered to Manchester City, before any investigation had even begun. The subsequent flawed and consistently leaked UEFA process he oversaw has meant that there was little doubt in the result that he would deliver.
"The club has formally complained to the UEFA Disciplinary body, a complaint which was validated by a CAS ruling.

"Simply put, this is a case initiated by UEFA, prosecuted by UEFA and judged by UEFA. With this prejudicial process now over, the club will pursue an impartial judgment as quickly as possible and will therefore, in the first instance, commence proceedings with the Court of Arbitration for Sport at the earliest opportunity."

Sports / Chelsea Manager Frank Lampard Delivers Verdict On Man Utd Signing Bruno Fernande by BriggsBryan: 8:04pm On Feb 14, 2020
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard delivers verdict on Man Utd signing Bruno Fernandes
Frank Lampard believes the signing of Bruno Fernandes has significantly strengthened Manchester United’s hopes of gatecrashing the top four.
The Portugal international, following months of protracted negotiations, finally signed for United last month after Ed Woodward struck a £46.6 million deal with Sporting Lisbon.
Fernandes made an eye-catching debut during a goalless draw with Wolves a fortnight ago and has spent the winter break getting to know his teammates during a warm weather training camp in Marbella.
The 25-year-old is likely to start at the heart of United’s midfield when Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday and Lampard acknowledged his side must be wary of the threat Fernandes will bring.
He told Sky Sports: ‘I think they are strong anyway and will be stronger because they’ve done good business.
‘I think Fernandes is a top player, he scores goals, I know all about his record and that.
‘We have to take that into account and he will be wanting to make his mark on the Premier League in general. I think they are a top team.
‘Again they are gunning for the top four the size of club they are. We won’t be under any illusions, it’s going to be a tough game but we have to trust in ourselves, be confident at home, play well and try and win the game.’
After failing to make a single signing during the January window Chelsea, meanwhile, took a significant step towards a summer rebuild by confirming a deal for Ajax winger Hakim Ziyech on Thursday.
The Morocco international winger will officially become a Chelsea player in the summer and Lampard is hopeful the club will make further additions, although ensuring a top four finish remains his primary focus.
He added: ‘I think first we have to worry about where we are at trying to come in top four is priority, we are always on the lookout working together to see how we improve and those improvements could be needed in he summer but have to make sure they are the right ones.’

This University Produces The Most Billionaires

As of 2019, Harvard University has housed more self-made billionaires than any other institution in the entire world. A collective 51 attendees have gone on to secure a combined net worth of $377 billion. Stanford University (34 billionaires), Harvard Business School ((20 billionaires), Columbia University (16 billionaires) and The University of Southern California (14 billionaires) round out the top five.

Fudan and Peking University-which are both located in China and Moscow State University in Russia are the only intuitions outside of the US to crack the top ten.
Despite conventional wisdom, the greater share of self-made billionaires did not study economics during their college careers but are instead holders of Bachelor’s degrees in the fields of Arts and Science.

Master’s degrees in Business Administration (MBA), and Master and Doctorate degrees in Science were the next most popular choices with 148, 94 and 38 billionaires pursuing them respectively. A modest 31% of self-made entrepreneurs hold more than one degree.
“A small number have three degrees to their name, while just 3 out of over 800 have managed to find the time to pursue four degrees, such as hedge fund manager Cliff Asness, who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with dual degrees, before completing an MBA and a Doctorate from the University of Chicago, Frobisher explained. “However, it turns out that you don’t necessarily need to go to university at all to be successful.

It should be noted that 40 of the most affluent individuals in the world have never attended a university and 62 entrepreneurs belonging to this same demographic dropped out before they received a diploma. These self-made magnates began their respective organizations right out of high school. Ralph Lauren, Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson, and Bill Gates are some of the more renowned members of this elite club.
