The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo were in Rome on Saturday as Pope Francis named the Bishop of Ekwulobia, Peter Okpaleke, as a cardinal.

His new name is now His Eminence Peter Cardinal Okpaleke.

Okpaleke was born on 1 March, 1963 is a Nigerian prelate of the Catholic Church who has been Bishop of Ekwulobia since 29 April 2020.

He was appointed Bishop of Ahiara in 2012 and consecrated in 2013, but after the local clergy and laity insisted on an Mbaise bishop instead he was installed as bishop of Ekwulobia.

On 19 February 2018, Pope Francis accepted Okpaleke’s resignation as Bishop of Ahiara.

On 5 March 2020, just over two years after accepting his resignation as Bishop of Ahiara, Pope Francis appointed Okpaleke the Bishop of the Diocese of Ekwulobia, a newly created diocese in Anambra State which formerly had its territory under the jurisdiction of Awka Diocese. Okpaleke was installed there on 29 April 2020.

Pope Francis made him a cardinal on 27 August 2022, assigning him to the rank of cardinal priest with the titular church of Ss. Martiri dell’Uganda a Poggio Ameno.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said that the elections in 2023 will not be about connections, tribe, tribe or religion, but about competence, character and commitment to deliver.

Obi stated this at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association currently holding at the Eko Hotels.

Obi said, “Remember, the election we are going to have next year will not be about tribe, not religion, not connection, not entitlement, but about character, competence, capacity, and commitment to deliver.”

The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, is also present at the event.

The vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kashim Shettima, is also present at the event to represent the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu.

The 2022 NBA AGM is themed “BOLD Transitions” and its General Conference was expected to hold between August 19 to 26, with the opening ceremony happening today.

2023:Tinubu Has Introduced Two Vocabularies To Yoruba Political Dictionary - Obasanjo

‘Emilokan’ and ‘Olule’.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday made a comment while the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The former President joked about Tinubu’s viral statements which became public sensation.

He said:

“We have two vocabularies in the Yoruba dictionary, ‘Emilokan’ and ‘Olule’. These two vocabularies are now popularly used.

Recall that Tinubu had visited the former president at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, on Wednesday and was in company of two former governors of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba and Otunba Gbenga Daniel, billionaire businessman, Femi Otedola, and pioneer national chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande.

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Saturday described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the greatest election rigger in Nigeria.

This came just as the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, said unlike the PDP, the APC had never used the federal might to rig elections in the country.

Speaking at the APC presidential mega rally which held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, Tinubu said Obasanjo should be relegated to the dustbin.

He drew his allusion from a reported statement accredited to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua who stated in 2007 that the election that brought him into power was flawed. The 2007 election was conducted during the administration of ex-President Obasanjo.

A mammoth crowd of party supporters waited for over six hours under the sun for the presidential candidate of the APC, President Muhammadu Buhari, and his entourage.

Dignitaries at the rally were Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, regional vice chairmen across the country, host Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, governors of Ogun (Ibikunle Amosun), Ekiti (Kayode Fayemi), Ondo (Rotimi Akeredolu), Edo (Godwin Obaseki), Osun (Adegboyega Oyetola), Oyo (Abiola Ajimobi) and Kebbi states (Abubakar Bagudu )
