Foremost Nigerian philanthropist and chairman of Oranto Oil, Prince Arthur Eze has come under severe criticisms over his comments against the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi’s chances of winning the 2023 poll.

Eze had during the 2022 Ofala festival of his brother, Igwe Robert Eze, who is the traditional ruler of Ukpo kingdom, said that he had advised Obi to withdraw from the race as he was incapable of winning.

But supporters and non-supporters of Obi have descended on Eze, saying that his support for the LP candidates amounts to less, especially as he has never supported a winning candidate in a presidential election, or even been able to produce a governor in his home state, despite several attempts and huge financial donations.

Many of Obi’s supporters who wrote on social media berated Eze.

Harrison Madubueze wrote: “Someone who killed his own brother cannot boast to be a warrior.”

Meanwhile, former publicity secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh has advised Eze to steer clear of politics to avoid infamy.

Metuh who mimicked Eze, referred to him as “My dear Princh”, while insisting that people should focus on their candidate and leave Obi alone.

He said: “Some of us are now non-partisan and will no longer make public comments on our political choices but then, we are not expected to make certain categorical statements.

‘For indeed, no man is God and no man should attempt to play the Almighty role.

“God has blessed you for decades, you have acquired untold riches and unimaginable wealth.  Calm down and do not allow political punditry to lead you to infamy and public opprobrium.

“Let all the mini Amadioha’s in our land  campaign for their candidates and leave that poor man alone.”

He recounted that similarly, Anambra power brokers had stood against him in previous elections he contested, but he won.

Metuh said Obi has been accused severally of not having structure, not having crowd, but he has disappointed them all, adding that only God knows who the next winner would be.

Gumi had accused Christians in the military’s counter-insurgency/banditry campaign of being responsible for the killing of bandits.

With less than 2 months to the 2023 general elections, popular Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has told his congregation to vote for those who will not fight bandits if elected into office.

What Gumi told his congregation: In a sermon, the controversial Islamic cleric urged Nigerians to vote for leaders who would negotiate with bandits when elected into office.

Who Gumi asks his people to vote: Describing bandits as “our people,” Gumi said Nigeria’s next set of leaders should negotiate and give bandits what they want for peace to reign.

What he said: “Don’t vote for those who will fight bandits. The fighters (bandits) are our people. So please vote for those who, after attaining power, will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) so as to give them what they want for peace to reign,” he said.

States affected by Banditry: Bandits have been ravaging some Northern States like Yobe, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, and Taraba.

They have abducted and killed some persons while collecting ransom worth millions of naira.

Who is Sheikh Gumi: Gumi is a prominent, yet controversial, Muslim cleric acting as a self-appointed middleman between bandits and the government. Gumi is the eldest son to late Shaykh Abubakar Gumi. He was born in Kano state. He came from a geneanalogy of islamic scholars with his father being the first Grand Khadi of the old Northern Region.

Before now Sheik Gumi, who rose to the rank of a captain as a doctor in the medical corps of the Nigerian Army, had accused Christians in the military’s counter-insurgency/banditry campaign of being responsible for the killing of bandits. It was a remark with the potential, if not the clear aim, to set off a sectarian war in the military. For quite a while, indeed, Sheik Gumi had come under sharp criticisms from Nigerians who view his mediatory role of appeasement as overtly conciliatory and accommodating of the outlaw activities of the terrorists.

Presiding pastor of Livingspring Chapel International, Femi Emmanuel has taken a swipe at General Overseers of Megachurches in Nigeria for failing to mobilise members to join politics. 

Speaking recently during a sermon, Emmanuel told the congregation to stop praying to God to deliver Nigeria as this prayer has already been answered.

He stated that the Christian community is required to arise en masse and utilise its huge population to control the political wards in the country rather than pray only. 

According to him, there are churches with 30, 000 and 40, 000 parishes in Nigeria alone and these can take charge of political wards across the country which is just 10, 000.

He described the current 1999 constitution as “a fraud, a jihadist constitution, an oligarchy constitution” which places everybody in the country under one tribe. 

The cleric further said Nigeria is not a nation but rather a fusion of many nations forced to stay together with the help of a constitution which he said should be changed.

He, however, clarified that while he doesn't want the country to be divided, each autonomous unit should be allowed to rule its regions and control their resources. 

He said: “We have prayed enough, God has also answered our prayers. We will still be praying but the church of Nigeria has prayed and God has answered our prayers.

“You ask me how? He answered our prayers by giving us large followership. Megachurches in Nigeria are not available anywhere in the world. 

“No church like Redeemed, Winners, Mountain of Fire, Chosen, Christ Embassy, Deeper Life in the world. Redeemed alone has over 40, 000 parishes, Winners alone has over 30, 000. There are only 10, 000 wards in Nigeria where decisions of those who rule this country are made. 

“It's not just deliver Nigeria, deliver Nigeria, it should be God wake up your church. Talk to your General Overseers, the church community is an imprisoned community, our General Overseers have imprisoned us, they must release us, mobilise us, encourage us to go to the grassroots. 

“I was in politics before, I have campaigned, been voted for, I was a deputy speaker of a state, I know how it works. It's not just prayers, we have prayed and God has answered our prayers. The answer is that he had given us people. Next to God's power is political power and political power is people-given, what else do we want him to do for us? Do you want God to come from heaven and be casting votes?

“The seven excos in each ward determines who becomes president. We can't change Nigeria except we change the National Assembly. This evil law is called Constitution, this is the Jihadist constitution, this is an Oligarchy constitution, this is a constitution that puts the whole of the country under one tribe.

“This constitution cannot allow you to go and it cannot change until you change the men at the national assembly, the men at the national assembly will not change until you select new people that will replace them so the church must wake up, not only church, patriotic Nigerians must wake up and you don't win on social media, you go to the grassroots.

“We must attend ward meetings and put our good people there. It is people at the ward that are called delegates, delegates are the ones who will select who will be the president, governor, senator. 

“If you are not there and you sit on the fence, if you pray from now till tomorrow, it is a prayer in vain. The church must wake up. 

“This country must be restructured, was must go back to true federalism, Nigeria was a negotiated country, it is not one country, it is a country of many nations, how come one ethnic group dominates everybody? It will not happen again.

“This year, God will deliver this country. Our constitution is a fraud, very unfair, very unkind, no equity, the whole of us will be under one ethnic group and if it was one that wanted progress, it would have been a different thing, these ones are repressing us.

“That evil called Nigerian system will change. Let them come and arrest me, I will be saying it. Change your prayer mode from 'Lord save Nigeria' to 'Lord wake up Christians' there are only 10, 000 wards and I just mentioned some churches that have thousands of parishes, parishes that are docile, that are asleep, you are in the majority but you are asleep, minority us dominating you, changing the law. 

“In our church, we don't pray God should save Nigeria, Nigeria is not a nation, that's the first law we told ourselves, it is not one nation, this country is many nations tied together by force, we must agree how we want to be one, we are not saying we want to divide but let everyone rule himself at their own pace and let's meet at the centre. 

“Let's be like USA, New York and New Jersey, they are side by side, yet they have different laws, constitution, policemen, that's what it should be, not someone dictating from Abuja and slowing down our education, economy, military and making Nigeria unsafe. This evil system die today!

“I don't know why God took me to politics 1990/91, what I saw in politics, I cannot see it from the pulpit, that's why I don't blame our daddies, they can't see it. 

“Pastors say: 'Let's pray' do you pray until they cut your neck, you pray until they abduct all your children? No, we have prayed enough, we'll still be praying, time for action. God opened my eyes and I know Nigerians will not be free until we send away these evil politicians, they must be replaced and our Constitution must be rewritten.”

Sanwo-Olu picks PVC, charges residents to get voter cards

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged residents of voting age to pick up their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), from the various Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices in their localities.

Sanwo-Olu made the appeal on Monday when he stopped by at INEC office in the Sura area of Lagos Island Local Government Area to pick up his reprinted PVC.

He was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and some of his cabinet members.

The governor, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), a few months ago redesignated his location and updated his details.

He had moved his polling unit from Ikoyi to Lagos Island, ahead of next year’s governorship election.

Sanwo-Olu reminded the people that it was only when they collect their PVCs that they would be able to exercise their franchise during the next year’s general elections.

”Today, INEC officially started the collection of PVCs and because I did a redesignation of my address of where I was and where I am now, I had to move my polling unit.

”I am here to demonstrate to all our citizens that I have complied. I have come to pick up my reprinted voter’s card and I want to enjoin everyone to use this opportunity to go out and pick their PVCs.

”I have collected mine and you can see that I am at the INEC office here, and it is peaceful. Within two minutes they sorted it out and I signed to collect my own. So my advice is for all of us that still have our PVCs uncollected to please come out and do the rightful thing.

”It is only with this that you can participate in next year’s election. I wish all of us the very best and as we go into this exercise, I hope that it is something that is worth it very seriously as another civic responsibility,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu said that he was confident that the residents would do the right thing by re-electing him during the governorship poll, based on his administration’s performance during the first term.

”We will win because we believe Lagosians will do the right thing. And it is also because we believe that we have earned it; we have worked very hard and will continue to do that.

”We will continue to do our very best to ensure that we earn the trust and the commitment of our people,” he said.

A poultry farmer, has lamented the loss he has suffered as a result of flood in Bayelsa State.

He shared videos of the dead birds on his Twitter handle on Thursday saying that he lost 3,897 birds because there was no way to bring in food or medicine for the birds due to the flood.

He wrote, “This is my farm in Bayelsa State. The state has been cut off. No way to bring in feeds, nor medics. We are fighting both flood and birdflu at the same time. As of yesterday, I lost 3,897 birds. My heart is failing me. Totally depressed.”
