Dino Melaye Sparks Controversy After Tweet Endorsing Idris Wada

By Beauty Ehimhen

The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye, has created a frenzy on Twitter by openly declaring the incumbent governor of Kogi State and a gubernatorial aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Captain Idris Wada as the better candidate for the forthcoming Kogi governorship election.

Senator Dino who is a member of the All Progressive Congress, APC, clearly stated that his party candidate in the state Prince Abubakar Audu can not be compared to the Governor. In his tweet, “In all fairness, you can’t compare Wada with Abubakar Audu. Under Wada, Kogi has made much more progress!”, Dino said.

Dino, known for his controversial stance once accused a national leader of the governing All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, of plotting to have him removed from the Senate for supporting Bukola Saraki to emerge as the Senate President.

As at the time of filing this report the tweet has been deleted but not before it was munched by some Nigerian Twitter users as seen below.

Politics / Buhari Not Carrying Us Along In Appointment Of Ministers – APC Chieftains Lament by BrosPeter: 9:41pm On Sep 04, 2015
A National Working Committee, NWC, member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has disclosed that the party leadership is not being carried along in the appointments so far made by President Muhammadu Buhari, warning of dire consequences that can trigger.

Speaking with ThisDay, the previous night, the NWC member regretted that, “We read in the newspapers like every other Nigerian that President Muhammadu Buhari promised to appoint his ministers this month of September. But we, the leaders of the party are in the dark over the process; the president is not talking to us”.

The party bigwig however warned that the President may have difficulty getting his ministers confirmed by the Senate if leaders of the party are not carried along.

“I am sure the president knows the huge political implications of not carrying leaders of our party along in his ongoing efforts to appoint his ministers. I can tell you confidently that the ministerial list will not pass through the Senate,” the APC source added.

Also speaking with the national daily, erstwhile governor in one of the northern states, now senator categorically noted that: “the president would be signing the death warrant of the APC if he chooses not to carry the party along in his appointment of ministers.

Meanwhile, a source in the presidency noted that though President Buhari once indicated his desire to solely appoint his ministers, that position has since changed, stressing that: “I was in a meeting recently when governors and leaders of the APC met with the president and he promised to carry them along in the process.”

The source further told the newspaper that even though the governors and other party leaders would be allowed to nominate their candidates, “the nomination will finally be cleared by the president because there are many members of the APC who worked against the party during the last general election.’’

During the campaign, you talked about your 100 days covenant while answering a question in Chatham House, London. Recently, Your Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity said it was your party that made the covenant with Nigerians, not you. While we were about to recover from that shocker, your party’s national publicity secretary came on air to say, the party never made such promise. Since all we have been hearing is probe, probe, probe. To be taken seriously, we would like you to probe yourself and your party, the APC on the campaign promises fraud. Charity they say begins at home. So, physician, heal thyself first.

“The change the APC was talking about meant two different things. The APC in the North saw change as an opportunity to return power to the region while those in the South-West were looking for genuine social change. At the end, the North just used the South-West to get into Aso Rock and now we are regretting it.”

Politics / Abuja, Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa To Receive Free Pre-paid Meters by BrosPeter: 8:13am On Aug 31, 2015
The Management of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has disclosed its plan to distribute 500,000 pre-paid meters to electricity consumers in three states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

A statement by the Head, Public Relations and Media, Ahmed Shekarau said, Dr. Balami Halidu Arhyel, Head, Client Relationship, AEDC, disclosed this when he led a delegation from the company to the Nasarawa State Assembly Committee on Works and Transport in Lafia.

Dr. Arhyel said that the meters would be distributed to the customers free, pointing out that the measure was to ensure transparent and fair billing of consumers.

He said that the distribution of the meters would reduce complaints by electricity consumers on estimated billing, and contribute to the overall development of the country.

He told the committee that the meeting was to honour its invitation for discussions on complaints over estimated billing and other matters made by electricity consumers in the state.

“The company will soon distribute 500,000 Pre-Paid Meters (PPM) free of charge to electricity consumers in Kogi, Niger, Nasarawa and the FCT.

“I want to assure you of the company’s readiness to ensure transparent and fair billing and improved services to our customers,” he said.

Dr. Arhyel said the company had acquired and installed 19 new transformers of different capacities, 140 feeder pillar units, 120 high tension poles and 54 low tension poles in Nasarawa state.

He said that other items were 26,000 metres of aluminum conductors, 30 fiber ladders, 600 metres of cable and 8 drums of transformer oil.

The team leader said that the company did all to ensure adequate and constant power supply across the state.

Federal Government is expected to pay N30 Billion out of N117 Billion estimated cost of the bridge.

This same government has already borrowed N420 billion for rebuilding of infrastructures in Northeast Nigeria ravaged by Bokoharam even when the war has not ended.

This is shameful, where are the SS/SE supporters of Buhari, the rationale behind the decision needs to be explained.

Politics / Obasanjo Is A Liar, An Economic Illiterate – Soyinka by BrosPeter: 12:07pm On Aug 29, 2015
Obasanjo is a liar, an economic illiterate – Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, on Friday described former president Olusegun Obasanjo as one who should not be taken seriously.

He said the former president is as a liar and that he has no respect for him.

The Nobel laureate stated this in Lagos at an event tagged “An Evening With Soyinka”, which was organised by Telecommunication company, Globacom, in his honour.

Reacting to a question on what Obasanjo said about him recently, Soyinka noted that Obasanjo has a right to his opinion, stressing however that Obasanjo is liar, and been described as ‘economic illiterate’.

Politics / We’ve Committed $2.2m To Second Niger Bridge – NSIA by BrosPeter: 11:51am On Aug 29, 2015
The Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority has put its total commitment to the construction of the Second Niger Bridge at $2.21m (N435.4m).

The project is structured as a Public Private Partnership and will be constructed and operated on a design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis.

It is expected that the bridge would be constructed and delivered in 48 months. When completed, the bridge and adjacent roads will have six lanes with three in each direction.

The project was initially estimated to cost N108bn excluding duties and Value Added Tax, (if duties and VAT are included, the project cost is N117.9bn).

The agency, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Abuja, said as part of measures aimed at ensuring the effective implementation of the project, it had assembled a team of Nigerian and international advisers with proven capabilities and global experience in PPP infrastructure projects to ensure the project get first-class advisory services.

These consultants, it added, were engaged through a rigorous and competitive procurement process.

Giving a breakdown of the amount spent, the statement said a total of $247,586 was spent on the due diligence phase and $1.96m on the project development phase.

The statement reads in part, “To date, NSIA has spent a total of $2.21m on consultancy services on the two phases of the project – $247,586 on the due diligence phase; and $1.96m on the project development phase.

“These services have included work in the following areas: legal, financial, technical and engineering and environmental and social impact advisory, provided by various credible and well-recognised Nigerian and international professional services firms.

It said to date, total consultancy cost had been less than one per cent of the estimated project cost.

“Whilst there is no standardised benchmark for transaction fees, the European Investment Bank’s Economic and Financial Report No. 3 of 2005 indicates that, on the average, the level of transaction cost for the procurement phase of PPP projects is over 10 per cent of the capital value of the relevant project in Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, and the United Kingdom.”

It wasn't just a fight against kidnappers, but a show of force against the militants in view of their increasing activities, this is why a helicopter gunship was used. Increased militancy will be met with increased fire-power.

Boko haram have become bolder recently we'd also like to see this show of force on the terrorist.

Don't be dull. So, criminals should be left to keep breeding abi because the are from where you're from? If they become big like boko haram, is it not you and your family that would suffer their wrath? Think clearly.

Why are they not bombing kidnappers in APC states? The reason is obvious, we didn't vote them, these are reprisal attacks by the North for Jonathans fight with boko haram.
Why are they not using same enthusiasm to fight boko haram? Why have boko haram suddenly become a force again?

Of course. The militants attacked a police station killing two policemen, and then looted the weapons in the whole armoury yet you want police action to be used against militants?

Please be honest.

So the best thing is to bomb them? Where in the world do Airforce bomb kidnappers? Why are they not bombing Ogun state?

This is retaliation because we didn't vote APC, this would only increase militancy. Lets watch where this ends.

This govt is dead on arrival, maybe this was why God didn't want Buhari to govern us, this almajiri president is a disaster waiting to happen.
