CrimeNigerian Student Faces Jail Time, Deportation Over Threat To Bomb UK University by BrownEnvelop(op): 12:29pm On Nov 24, 2023
A 26-year-old Nigerian masters student, Somtochukwu Okwuoha faces jail and deportation after a jury found him guilty of making t+rrorist threats against Dundee University.

According to the BBC, the International Energy Student claimed he had enlisted a terrorist group — Isis— to help bomb the university and told staff he planned to target the city in a chemical attack.

Okwuoha was found guilty of seven charges and was remanded in custody.
He is due to be sentenced next month. Sheriff William Wood will also consider the Crown’s motion for an order to deport Okwuoha to Nigeria.

A trial heard that Okwuoha told university staff he planned to carry out mass m¥rder on the Dundee University campus. Eyewitnesses told the court how
Okwuoha claimed he had a military background and was capable of making bombs and unleashing a deadly virus on the city.

One of the witnesses, Keith Mackle, 58, now retired director of student services, told Perth Sheriff Court he became aware of “serious concerns” in the autumn of 2021. He said staff members received emails making t+rrorist threats

One said: “Expect a massive b%mb explosion at the University of Dundee. I have contacted Isis t+rrorists to plant bombs on campus. I can assure you staff and students will die in great numbers. 9/11 will be a joke compared to what will happen. Blood will spill and flesh will be scattered.”

Also, accommodation officer Shane Taylor told the court Okwuoha accused him of being r+cist and said he planned to wipe out Scottish people as revenge.

Okwuoha, a prisoner at Perth, was found guilty of threatening to murder staff at the university and commit t+rrorist crime between December 2021 and June 2022.

He was found guilty of threatening to commit mass murder, using biological weapons, revealing staff details to international authorities, and claiming to have planted bombs. He was also found guilty of threatening to behead police officers and detonate bombs he had planted at Dundee University.

PoliticsTinubu’s Government Inherited Dead Economy – Soludo by BrownEnvelop(op): 1:18am On Nov 24, 2023
Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State says the adminsitration of President Bola Tinubu inherited a dead economy.

Soludo stated this while commenting the current naira-dollar exchange during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) said part of the problem was that that the apex bank was illegally printing money in total violation of the 2007 Act governing the finacial institution.

Charles Soludo said, “We must realize where we were coming from. We sat here in this country and saw the monetary authorities literally printing money. And to prevent us from getting to where we are today, that was why we had an explicit clause that prevented the Central Bank from landing recklessly, granting ways and means to the federal government.

“We explicitly put into the law that you can’t grant the federal government more than 5% of the previous year’s actual revenue. And that so granted must be retired by the end of the year in which it was granted. And when the federal government fails to retire, the central bank is forbidden by that law from further advancing ways and means. That was the law 2007 act of the Central Bank.

“But we sat all of us Nigerians watching the CBN illegally and brazenly violating that act year on year and kept on printing money. That is when advance money is not backed by nothing; you just credit the federal government with trillions N 4 trillion, N10 trillion, N15 trillion and we kept going.

“I said it before. This particular government inherited a dead economy from a micro economic point of view, this government inherited a dead horse that was seen standing but people didn’t know that it was dead. I think it’s important for Nigerians to understand this.”

Speaking while advancing negotiations concerning a multi-billion dollar infrastructure finance facility from the Islamic Development Bank in Saudi Arabia earlier in the month, Tinubu said his administration inherited serious liabilities from his predecessors.

He said Nigeria has serious deficits in port and power infrastructure, as well as agro-allied facilities.

SportsVincent Enyeama: How Sunday Oliseh’s Decision To Strip Goalkeeper Of Captaincy by BrownEnvelop(op): 10:31pm On Nov 23, 2023
Vincent Enyeama has opened up on his time with the Super Eagles, claiming he was treated like ‘used material’.

Two years after helping the team to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations title, Nigeria was met with surprising news as he announced his retirement from international football.

He was the Super Eagles’ most-capped player at the time, having made 101 appearances for the national team.

Since he hung up his boots, successive coaches have struggled to get the best pair of hands to man the goalpost. Following his recent comments, Nigerian Street takes a look at the events that led to Enyeama’s retirement.

Sunday Oliseh strips Enyeama of captaincy
During his eight-month reign as the Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh decided to strip Enyeama of the captaincy, claiming the goalkeeper was already considering retirement.

The incident came while Nigeria was camped in Belgium for friendly matches against DR Congo and Cameroon.

Enyeama had arrived late to the camp having just participated in his mother’s burial. Oliseh had claimed the shot-stopper was given a special welcome and was treated to a good reception.

He told ESPN at the time:

“We were very happy to see him. He had just buried his mum and to be honest, I didn’t even expect him to be in camp. I thought he would call and say he was staying back to deal with family issues.

“We are Africans and we know that in times like this, a lot of family stuff comes up, and for someone like him, it would be even harder. So he could have been excused if he had stayed back.”

Oliseh, Enyeama involved in row

At the post-match dinner, the coach was said to have blasted the players, citing poor training and saying they lacked fire and hunger.
Oliseh then announced that going forward, Ahmed Musa – who had been acting in Enyeama’s absence – would be the new skipper.
Enyeama is said to have protested the decision and demanded an explanation, but instead, he was shown the door by the head coach:
“I told him that this was not the right time. That we could discuss it later. But he kept insisting loudly that he wanted to talk,” Oliseh said in 2015.
“So I told him we could either leave the hall for him, or he would have to leave. When he continued, I opened the door and asked him to leave. Some of the other players, Musa, [Emmanuel] Emenike, [John Obi] Mikel, and [Ogenyi] Onazi were holding him and asking him to calm down. You can confirm from any of them.”

Amaju Pinnick wades in on Enyeama

The then-NFF president, Amaju Pinnick was said to have called the coach to try and resolve the issue by allowing Enyeama to remain with the team.

However, the coach would not budge on his decision to strip him of the captaincy.

“On three separate occasions when we talked, including before the Tanzania game, he kept talking about retirement. That was when I made up my mind to appoint a captain I could count on for the long run,” Oliseh explained.

Enyeama announced his retirement
On October 8 that year, Enyeama took to Instagram to announce that he had retired from international football, much to the surprise of Nigerian fans.

“I have fought a good fight for more than 13 years. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith. I am out of the team.”

SportsBrazil Faces Points Deduction After Violence Rocked Argentina Match In World Cup by BrownEnvelop(op): 9:43pm On Nov 23, 2023
The FIFA disciplinary committee is reportedly set to open an investigation into the ugly scenes that marred Brazil’s game against Argentina on November 22.

The two South American heavyweights met in a 2026 World Cup qualifier match at the Maracana Stadium. Brazilian police were spotted hitting fans with batons after a fight broke out just before kick-off.

Argentina players and Brazil captain, Marquinhos headed over to the stands in an attempt to defuse the situation. Lionel Messi was then seen ordering his side to leave the pitch until order was restored.

A video doing the rounds on social media showed how ghastly the fracas was, with a couple of fans requiring immediate medical attention.

After the game, Messi led the criticism, calling for authorities to do better in protecting the fans. “This can’t be tolerated. It’s insane and it needs to end now.”

FIFA’s code of conduct on security
FIFA President, Gianni Infantino echoed the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner’s sentiments through an official statement on Instagram.

“There is no place for violence in football, on and off the field. Without exception, fans, players and staff have to be safe and secure to enjoy football.”

PoliticsSoludo Keeps Mum As Top Management Staff Fight Over Anambra’s IGR by BrownEnvelop(op): 9:27pm On Nov 23, 2023
Anambra State Internal Revenue Services, AIRS, is the body charged with collecting internal revenues for the State.

For a state that has over 100 markets in Onitsha alone, 20 major international markets across the state, an industrial city in Nnewi and several semi-urban centres that can boast of appreciable economic activities, it is not a surprise that the agency responsible for revenue collection reeks in cash.

But top management staff of AIRS, have been enmeshed in a fight over revenues in the state and its collection. The fight however is principally between the Executive Chairman of AIRS, Chief Greg Ezeilo and the Executive Director of Operations in the agency, Dr. Christian Madubuko.

It was gathered that the bone of contention is who controls the internally generated revenue of the state.

Soludo had upon his swearing in charged the AIRS on increased generation of revenue. The governor gave the agency a target of growing the state’s internally generated revenue to N10 billion monthly.

The charge had then led to a revenue drive by the agency, which later led to a backlash on the governor, as people complained of being suffocated with taxes.

Though this was happening under Dr Richard Maddiebo as executive chairman, the agency later reformed its operation, such that it abolished collection of cash, opting for electronic payment.

A source within the agency, pleading for anonymity, said Madiebbo was bitter that despite the open confrontation and feud in the agency, Soludo failed to wade into the matter to call Madubuko to order.

His exit ushered in Chief Greg Ezeilo as the New Chairman and Executive Director. He was also in the system previously, and said to be grounded. His entry, however, created another round of feud between him and Madubuko, leading to his attempt to cut Madubuko to size.

It gathered that as part of the strategy, Ezeilo created a new office, UHBET Centre and assigned Madubuko an office in the complex while also changing his job description from being in charge of field operations to New Businesses Development, Motor Licensing, Road Taxes and overseeing the UHBET Computer-Based Testing Facility (CBT). This did not go down well with Madubuko, who ignored him and continued with his role as operations manager, leading staff to the field for enforcement.

Our source stated that: “The main reason for such insistence to remain in the field was because of the money involved. If you know how much is in the field, you will know why Madubuko insists on being in the field.

“On the other hand, the Executive Director himself also goes to the field. He has an eye in the field, and he does not want Madubuko with his overbearing influence to continue to pry into his affairs. There’s a whole lot of games going on there.”

Meanwhile, in an internal memo, which came in the form of a query, which Ezeilo issued to Madubuko, he accused him of several wrongdoings, including insubordination, usurpation of power, and converting of some of the agency’s operational vehicles for his personal use.

CrimeI Only Beat My Wife To Correct Her, Man Tells Court by BrownEnvelop(op): 9:49pm On Nov 21, 2023
A father of four, Lukman Soladoye, on Tuesday, appeared before a Shari’a court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna for beating his wife, Kemi Soladoye, and their four children.

Soladoye said he beat his wife and children to correct them when they were wrong adding that he loves his family and wanted the best for them.

Earlier, the complainant through her counsel B. A Tanko said she had wanted a divorce due to the incessant assault but later changed her mind and settled with her husband.

She prayed court to caution the defendant to stop physically abusing her and their children.

The judge Malam Isiyaku Abdulrahman asked the defendant if he would promise to stop beating his wife and children and the defendant said he would stop beating the wife not children.

“If your wife does anything wrong to you, talk to her about it and show your displeasure; you are not supposed to beat your wife.

“As for your children, beating is not the only way to correct a child; always show love and affection to your children, pray for them and advise them,” the judge advised.

The judge said the court would continue to monitor the defendant’s behavior and asked the complainant to report to the court if the defendant assaulted her again.

PoliticsLagos Deputy Gov: I Never Received N2bn To Purchase Rechargable Fans; Only 2mill by BrownEnvelop(op): 9:41pm On Nov 21, 2023
The deputy governor of Lagos state, Obafemi Hamzat, has denied reports that his office got N2 billion to purchase rechargeable fans, rechargeable lights and fridges.

Hamzat in a memo addressed to the Director General of the Public Procurement Agency, said the approval for the project was N2m. He also claimed that his wife got N2.5m each for her monthly outreach to indigents and empowerment programmes as against the N30m captured by the agency.

The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his deputy, Hamzat, have come under fire after reports of them approving N7.5 million to replace liquid fragrance in Sanwo-Olu’s office and N2bn to purchase rechargeable fans for the office of Hamzatsurfaced online.

Refuting the report, Hamzat in a memo signed by Director, of Finance and Account, Tola Ekemode on behalf of the Permanent Secretary in the office of the deputy governor, said the report by the agency was untrue, mischievous, fake and unfounded.

“It is important to state that truly, the office did get approval and awarded the provision of supply items (rechargeable fans, rechargeable lights and fridges) for the sum of =N=2,017,840 (Two Million, Seventeen Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty Naira) as against the =N=2,017,840,000 (Two Billion, Seventeen Million, Eight Hundred and Forty Thousand Naira as reported by Doherty in his purported letter.

In addition, the report that the office through the Wife of the Deputy Governor spent =N=30,000,000 monthly for outreach to indigents is inaccurate as the amount stated covered the whole year. It is =N=2,500,000 per month. Same for the Empowerment programme by the Wife of the Deputy Governor which also =N=2,500,000 per month as against =N=30,000,000 monthly reported” the memo read

He called on the agency to take immediate action to take prompt action in addressing the issue by giving the general public a true account of what was approved.

“The Office of the Deputy Governor wishes to state in unequivocal terms, for your immediate action and the attention of millions of readers that the report is untrue, mischievous, fake and unfounded.

We are compelled to write this letter due to the inaccuracies it conveyed; as the story was completely different and not a true reflection of what we have in our records. Also, we would not allow some individual(s) and journalists with mischievous inclination to bring the personality and name of the Deputy Governor, his wife and the office to disrepute”

Health500 NYSC Corps Members Rally Against Open Defecation In Oyo State by BrownEnvelop(op):
In commemoration of this year’s World Toilet Day, about 500 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), on Saturday, staged a rally in Ibadan against rampant Open Defecation in Oyo.

Adorning Hypo Toilet Cleaner crested vests on their khaki trouser, the corps members walked from the NYSC Secretariat, Agodi Gate through Total Garden, Mokola and the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, campaigning against open defecation to passersby and commuters.

While speaking against open defecation, the corps members spoke on the imperativeness of personal hygiene, having houses built with toilets and against indiscriminate waste disposal.

Speaking, representative of the NYSC Oyo Coordinator, Mr Onanuga Ibrahim bemoaned that he lived in a place where people dumped their waste indiscriminately.

He added that he observed that there were several houses in Ibadan without toilets, many people sharing toilets, apart from others defecating in open spaces, nearby bushes, pathways, or streams.

Another corps member, Mr Ishola Jamiu said he observed that some who do not have toilets in their houses simply defecate in polythene nylon, bags and dump them on medians or in waste drums.

Addressing the corps members, Area Marketing Manager, Hypo Toilet Cleaner, South-West region, Mr Buchi Maduka tasked them to step down the campaign against open defecation and importance of personal and community hygiene in their various Places of Primary Assignment (PPA).

Noting that Oyo and South-West States boast of the highest prevalence of open defecation, Maduka said the target is to end open defecation in Oyo and promote safe hygiene.

He assured that that sensitisation against open defecation will continue to resonate in markets, and schools.

Maduka also spoke of commitment of his company to building and renovating toilets brought to its notice by the corps members, in a programme tagged, ‘Toilet Rescue’.

PoliticsNnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer Accuses FG Of ‘double National Offense’ Against IPOB Leader by BrownEnvelop(op): 8:35pm On Nov 21, 2023
Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has accused the Nigerian Government of committing “double offense” over the agitator’s arrest.

Ejimakor said detaining Kanu after subjecting him to extraordinary rendition from Kenya is a double offense.

The special counsel explained that such offense can’t stand.

Posting on X, he recalled how Nigerians lost their visa-free travel to the United Kingdom due to the botched rendition of Umaru Dikko in 1984.

According to Ejimakor: “In 1984, Nigerians lost their visa-free travel to the UK because of the botched rendition of Umaru Dikko & it was the rendition of MAZI NNAMDI KANU that got Benin Republic to protect IGBOHO.

“Detaining MNK after renditioning him is a double national offense that should not stand. ”

Kanu has been locked up by the Department of State Services, DSS, since he was arrested and renditioned from Kenya in 2021.

Despite court judgments ordering his release, the DSS has refused to grant him freedom.

plaindealer:
Drug prices increased above the inflation rate all over the world, but you don't think it should be increased in Nigeria.

Do you people really think Nigeria is above or immune to global inflation and price increases?

I bet you want the government to subsidize that too,,

Jokers,,
This is just trying to be clever by half. The companies manufacturing these drugs have left the shores of Nigeria, as such these drugs are meant to be imported. With the scarcity of fx right now, there's no way the price would be cheap
