@ROSSIKE. Archeological evidence, drawings and the close study of the Egyptian mummies showed that the original Egyptians did not look exactly as the Africans of the sub Sahara. They belonged to a race of their own. Besides the oldest human remains were found around the rift valley of east Africa as opposed to your claim that Africans originated from the north. The Egyptian race and the sub Saharan race of Africa are not the same. The Moses mentioned in the bible who lead the Israelites may have the same resemblance in race with the Egyptians, and that was why he was easily hidden as a young boy among the natives of the Egypt. Therefore you should not use the Egyptians to explain the history of the ''pure'' blacks of Africa which are the focus of this discussion. I am not feeling inferior to other races of the world, but am just in search of the truth of whats wrong with Africans and why they are behind.

@hackney. funny dude grin grin grin

ROSSIKE, to make my comment short, if the point you are trying to make is, Africa taught the Europeans civilization including reading and writing, how would you explain the fact the TEACHER EVENTUALLY BECAME AN ILLITERATE AND HAD TO BE MADE LITERATE BY THE STUDENT HE TAUGHT?

It's my bedtime now. See you later.

At first I thought you had a real question, which is why I asked you to read your history. Instead you keep coming back to repeat the same superficial nonsense. You two are probably one and the same. You are either a white supremacist hiding in a Nigerian forum - curse on both your houses, may you burn from the heat of a million thunders!!!

Even worse, if you are African I cry for the day you were born. Why? The implication of your suffer-head induced vomit is that you and your generations have no hope even if you have a million years to work at it. Know what that means? It means that you might as well light a keg of gun powder and sit on it right now. That way you 'll save your generations yet unborn from this "genetic curse" and the rest of us from having to read/listen to this kind of unbelievable misuse of bandwidth.

Point of correction, I am not white. I am charcoal black like you. But the difference between us is you chose not to ask this question cos you don't want to accept your failures and research on it. Only the revelation of a divine curse on Africans will properly explain the mystery surrounding our stagnancy in development.

You expect Africa to transform into a Europe or America in 50 years of independence, after 500 centuries of slavery and colonisation?

What do you mean by 50 years of independence? Did Africans start existing after independence? For God's sake they were there thousands of years before the colonial masters came. What were they doing before then? If Africans weren't weak, slavery wouldn't have happened.

It is happening. You are just too blind to see it. Could your grandparents read and write? Where did they live? Not in a hut or shack? Where do YOU live?  Did your grandparents see electricity before they turned 50? Your life is ten times better than your grandparents' lives ever was. THAT is PROGRESS.
Who brought in the western education and the electricity you mentioned? Isn't it the colonial masters you are blaming for your failures. Without that interaction with the Europeans I don't think Africa would have been what it is today in terms of literacy level the little progress they have made.

What do you say about India, Bangladesh etc? You do realise that several black African nations havce a higher standard of living than many nations in Asia? Some scholars actually state that Asia as a whole is poorer than Africa. India for instance has 500 million illiterates. Do you think they are sitting somewhere blaiming their ''genes'' for that? Nope. Only colonised slaves with nothing better to do do that.

India only has a problem of population explosion. Their economy is much more better at least.

Ancient Egypt was a black African civilization later overrun by Greeks and Arabs intera alia. Further south, the pyramids and temples of Sudan are thousands of years older than the oldest building in Europe.

You need to read more, learn more about African history and even current affairs before coming here to embarass yourself.

Ok. Accepted cos I wasn't a history student.

I think brownteeth, is indeed making alot of sense, and I dont think is about inferiority complex. From Africa to the carribean the story is the same;corruption, poor leadership, nepotism, tribalism and so on, but we are quick to blame the white man for our woes,as if africa was the only continent to be colonised. The problems currently plaguing the black race as previously highlighted is evident in other races but they have been able to still experience some form of technological advancement.

Imagine Haiti which gained independence in 1804, after over 200 years is still a poor country, infact haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. What is indeed wrong with the black race?
Please tell them again.

hackney:

I personally think its genetic.
That is the only explanation for all the black nations irrespective of location being poor,
corrupt and totally dilapidated despite several centuries of opportunities to get out of the waste bin.

To the point that even black communities in world class 1st world economies are still
chaotic, impoverished and basically a 3rd world microcosm.

This abominable genetic anomaly kicks in when blacks exist in groups but is recessive in singular
existence ; that is why individuals excel in any societies but in groups as small as 10 they cant
even select a team leader.

If you doubt it, try it.
monkeys.
On point, except the part in bold grin

That is why you need to read your history first. Nobody tied anybody's hands. It was always a babaric world, AND STILL IS - though well hidden.

As for Africa being the cradle of human civilization - 1) Humans originated in Africa - that is not in dispute; 2) While those who dominated world affairs in the last 400 years or so attributed the source of human civilization to the Sumerians, archaeology is increasingly showing that all these things were already taking place on the African continent way before these other civilizations. The more they dig under Egyptian soils the blacker the origin of Egypt becomes.

Behind the change in dominance of world affairs are shifts in the environment, technology & population, among others, but has nothing to do with any gene. The way I see it, Africa lost its grip on world affairs between 1000 B.C. to 500 B.C. leading to a mass dislocation and isolation of the mother continent from much of the rest of the world. It seems to me that the population moved deeper into the continent for that reason as well as the expansion of the Sahara desert. All these cut Africa off from the heights to which the new powers took our existing civilization - by which I mean the explosion in the art of writing and the expansion of knowledge it generated. Africa was also difficult to penetrate from the outside, so the world power could not directly  incorporate much of the continent into the affaris of the day. Still Africans interacted on the periphery and we traveled far and wide (including a much later slave trade), but deep parts of the continent remained immune to other global developments. By the time the domination of world affairs shifted to the British we had so fought and divided the continent into so many tiny groups, and our technology on a continental scale was rudimentary.

The Anglo-American world powers conducted not only physical war on Africa with their superior technology. They went back home and basically told their people that those on the continent were lower humans, and perhaps animals - the brainwashing was outlandish much like the tabloids of today, but back then they were accepted as facts. They embarked on the most cruel global act of genocide and enslavement the world had ever seen in the middle passage. They carted away resources at will, but left a little bit of education behind. Worst of all when they "left", power was transfered to those least capable.

What am I saying? That Africa's problem is that of leadership, not gene - one that arose out of the devious plans of the colonial masters before they left our shores. They have never really left, they merely appointed administrators for us - much like the way world powers of centuries past put in place vicoreys to do their bidding. In our case it is more pernicious because these vicoreys are sons of the soil, and pretend to be our true leaders.

My 2 cents.

Am sorry. All you mentioned above cannot be the reason that explains African's backwardness. The foreign powers inflicted some damage to the African continent, but I expect the Africans to have overcome the infliction and reposition themselves back on their feet by now. But it isn't happening despite the fact that the colonial masters have left us to manage our affairs for decades now.

You also mentioned that Africa lost it's grip on world affairs between 1000BC and 500BC. We have seen powerful empires lose their power and influence on the world, but not to the extent that abject poverty and illiteracy took over as in the case of Africa.

Talking about the civilization aspect, I can only remember the Egyptians and north Africa as the spearheads of civilization. I don't know about sub Sahara and southern Africa as part of the early civilization to generally say Africa as a whole ushered in civilization.

AjanleKoko:

You're right. It's a question of maturity. The Africans experienced a setback by way of slavery and colonization, and it has left a permanent impact on our collective psyche. With time, the mindset and reasoning will evolve, and we'll somehow be able to pull ourselves out of the hole we're in today.

Ajanlekoko, slavery and colonization cannot be an excuse why Africa is so behind. And I repeat, SLAVERY IS NOT AN EXCUSE. Europe experienced a worse situation in the form of disastrous disease outbreaks and frequent wars which includes the more famous WW1 and WW2. But if you go to Europe today, it would seem like the never had a dark past. Africans have been sleeping for too long with no sign of real progress when the ought to have woken up a long time time ago. My brother something is wrong somewhere.

ROSSIKE:

Oh God not another fool with a raging inferiority complex.

Please just take your slave, self-hating, colonised self back into the wretched hole you crawled out of and stop disturbing our peace.

Waste of space.

Sharap goat head. You must be the real fool who can't differentiate an open question from an opinion.

koruji:

You need to go read your history b/4 asking this kind of "superficial" questions. You will discover that many of what is called civilization today came out of Africa.

While it is true that our continent has been depressed for a long time, there is nothing like a "black gene in africa that prevents them from advancing". Go educate yourself and understand that dominance of world affairs has moved from one place to the other over millenia, but the current world powers visited a unique combinatiion of intellectual, psychological and physical cruelty on the mother continent - one result is an epidemic of self-hate.

Educate yourself, liberate your mind and help the next generation of Africans so that we can return to past glory.

Africa brought civilization to the world But why didn't they retain it for themselves in the long run? And what were they doing when the dominance of world affairs moved from one place to the other over the millennia and the current world powers visiting a unique combination of intellectual, psychological and physical cruelty on the mother continent as you said? Who tied their hands?

Omenani:

I really hate Africans with an inferiority complex. It is actually appalling. I think Africans who have this view should be culled from our population. That would keep them from passing their idiotic DNA into the next generation.

I asked a question. So Why should it arrive at inferiority complex? What if there is truth in the question? You will make a better contribution if you disprove the question I asked.

@rokiatu. Must I say ''some'' or ''most'' to make you satisfied? Your statement about generalizing doesn't make sense at all to me cos I expect you to do the mathematics yourself and figure out the numbers. I must not tell you ''some'' or ''most''. Am aware It was generalized myself, but I expected everyone to think independently and fix the figures. haba!!

As you read through people complaints here, you wouldnt fail to notice that some people fall for their partner's pranks or tricks without knowing it and coming back to their senses on time. The victims assume all will be fine while their mischevous partners continue to make a big fool out of them. So the question is, who falls for deception easily between guys and girls? Let me use the local slang ''MUGU'' for you guys to understand better.

Well, I think the girls are more of the mugus than the guys. Though am not sure sha. You guys should prove or disprove.
Politics / Is Nigeria Not Doomed Forever? by Brownteeth(m): 1:55pm On Dec 02, 2010
Most of you guys here believe that Nigeria will change for the better in the near future, but no one has been able to say how the change will take effect or what will bring about the change. You guys base your hopes on electing a viable president who will take Nigeria to the promised height. But don't you guys think electing the messiah president is only a partial short term solution? For instance you guys consider Pat Utomi as someone sane enough to steer Nigeria. If he is given the mandate how sure are we that the 90% selfish and corrupt political office holders spread across the senate, house of reps and beyond will allow him make some tough critical decisions which may not benefit them? Even if he succeeds in making some tough decisions, it is likely that his successor may return the situation to business as usual. This shows that the best answer to move this country forward is to press the RESET button and restructure the system of Nigeria's government to introduce a stricter check and balance in the system. Nothing will ever move with the current system of things. It's really beyond conducting a free and fair election. Nigeria copied America's system of government rather than fashioning out her own system to suit the nature of the Nigerian people. Besides I wonder why Nigeria didn't copy the part that prevents the American politicans from having free acess to public funds. I don't see Nigeria pressing the RESET button anytime soon, therefore it appears Nigeria will be doomed till probably an asteroid from space puts a total end to everything. Do you disagree?
