Phones / Nokia Wins Patent Suit Against HTC, About To Ban One Mini In UK by buntercos(m): 9:30pm On Dec 03, 2013 |
HTC just can't catch a break these days. The company has been in rough financial shape for a while now, despite churning out stellar products like the HTC One. One of the company's biggest threats is Nokia, which coincidentally has one of the biggest patent portfolios in the mobile space. The Finish company has won a patent lawsuit against HTC where Justice Arnold of the England and Wales High Court has ordered an injunction against the Tainawese manufacturer's products, which are in violation of Nokia's EP0998024 patent on "modular structure for a transmitter and a mobile station". HTC's argument is that the technology is part of the Qualcomm chips the company uses and should be covered in a deal between Nokia and Qualcomm in the US. But to no avail as the judge has issued the injunction, which has been delayed until Friday so as to give time HTC to appeal. If that does not happen Nokia could file to ban HTC One sales in the UK. HTC's One mini has already fallen victim to Nokia and will be banned from selling starting December 6. HTC has evoked examples such as Apple, BlackBerry, Google, LG, Samsung and Sony, which all infringe on said patent, but that wasn't enough to save its case. Nokia had achieved a sales ban against the One smartphone line in the UK before, forcing HTC to change the radios and microphones inside the One. Nokia also won against HTC regarding its wireless patents , battery-saving patent in Germany, the list goes on. |

Sports / USA '94 - When Eagles Nearly Ruled The World Can It Happend Again? by buntercos(m): 7:20pm On Dec 03, 2013 |
Would Nigeria have won the World Cup in 1994 had they gone past eventual finalists Italy in a Round of 16 clash? However, what was not in question was that Nigeria were only two minutes away from reaching the quarterfinals of the 1994 World Cup, before Italy drew level and went on to beat the Super Eagles 2-1. Indecision in the Nigeria defence let in Roberto Baggio to bring Italy back from the dead courtesy of an 88th equaliser after Emmanuel Amuneke had given Nigeria a 25th minute lead. “It took something out of us psychologically,” said Finidi of the goal. And in extra time, it was Baggio who again who proved the difference as he fired the winner in the 102nd minute from the penalty spot. “The World Cup begins now, not just for myself but for Italy,” hailed a relieved Baggio. Italy will then go all the way to reach the final, where they lost to Brazil on penalties. For Nigeria, it was a case of what could have been. And 19 years after, their outing in the US still remains the highlight of their World Cup participation. The Super Eagles had won a second Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia in 1994 and so expectations were very high when they took on the world a few months later in the USA. And they got off to a flying start with a 3-0 thrashing of Bulgaria in the opening game with goals from Rashidi Yekini, Daniel Amokachi and Emmanuel Amuneke. Argentina, led by skipper Diego Maradona, exploited the slack defending of the Eagles in their next game to run away 2-1 winners, but not before Samson Siasia conjured a sublime goal. Nigeria then beat Greece 2-0 to finish top of their group ahead of Bulgaria and Argentina. Naive defending and the fact that Yekini, the team’s leading scorer in the qualifiers, struggled on this stage combined to cut short Nigeria’s flight at their debut World Cup. But they were daring when going forward with Finidi George dashing down the right wing and Emmanuel Amuneke on the left to provide service for Yekini, Amokachi and Siasia. It was an attacking brand of football that won them ‘The most entertaining team of the World Cup’, that many, many years later many are still wondering what would have been had they not let themselves down in the dying minutes against Italy. |
Education / ASUU : Presidency Blasts ASUU by buntercos(m): 8:45am On Dec 03, 2013 |
The Federal Government said at the weekend that its decision to sack the striking lecturers was informed by the stance of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to get its demand in one fell swoop. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, told reporters in Abuja that it was wrong “for a party to a dispute to come to the table with an “all or none” mentality”. Okupe regretted that ASUU leadership has remained recalcitrant, despite President Goodluck Jonathan’s strenous commitment to the resolution of the crisis which he said informed his involvement in the last meeting with the striking lecturers, even as the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) slammed the government for threatening the lecturers with sack. “In our present case, coming to negotiations as ASUU has done with this mindset, betrays a lack of understanding on the part of the body’s leadership that the nation and the government are a continuum. “Having said that, Nigerians expected that the direct involvement of President Goodluck Jonathan who sat for 13 hours in the meeting was the high mark of the crisis, which ought to have provided the final resolution to the crisis. “The meeting with President Jonathan ended with a definite agreement and resolutions acceptable to the ASUU leadership. “The leadership of ASUU was expected to consult with its members nationwide and report back to government within one week, and call off the strike, all other things being equal. “The ASUU leadership rather than take its responsibility seriously, wasted seven days before scheduling a meeting. When the meeting eventually held the leadership decided to thwart and undemocratically override the expressed will of majority of its chapters to call off the strike. This action is contrary to established practice and procedure of any democratic labour institution, which ASUU is expected to be. “The ASUU leadership refused to accede to the wishes of 42 of its 61 chapters nationwide, who voted in favour of the agreement with the President and the calling off of the strike; but in a surprise volte face presented government again with a new set of demands and considerations outside the terms agreed at the presidential intervention. “This is why we make bold to state that there is absolutely nothing dictatorial, draconian or undemocratic in the order by the Federal Government for striking lecturers to return to work or face dismissal. You may wish to recall that on August 5, 1981, Ronald Reagan then American President, sacked 11, 345 Air Traffic Controllers after a two-day . Reagan took the decision after the striking workers turned down an 11 per cent wage increase he had offered them. Here in Nigeria, our labour laws contain sufficient provisions that give the right to hire and fire to the employer. |
Religion / ‘all Catholics Will Go To Hell Because They Worship Satan’ – Chris Okotie by buntercos(m): 7:43am On Dec 02, 2013 |
is according to . Nigeria’s controversial preacher and former presidential candidate, Chris Okotie, told his congregation last Sunday, that: ”All Catholics in the world will go to hell because they worship Satan and are led by an Anti-Christ Pope who is a friend to the devil,” - Fifty-five year old Okotie, while preaching in his Household of God Church in Ikeja area of Lagos, said the Catholic church is “a counterfeit church set up by Satan” and that Catholics “bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus’ body.” Okotie told a stunned congregation: They are not Christians and have never been. They don’t know Jesus. They believe that when they eat bread on Sundays, they are eating the body of Jesus. It’s ritual. The pope is an Anti-Christ and the Catholic church will soon declare for Satan. This is the end of times,” He said Pope Francis is an Anti-Christ who does the job of the devil and that time is fast approaching when the Catholic church will pledge allegiance to Satan. He advised members of his church to come to the rescue of Catholics and evangelise them. This, he said, was not out of disrespect but out of respect for the word of God. He said those who know the truth should bring it to those who do not know it in the Catholic Church. Okotie said one of the Catholic most revered Popes, Pope John Paul 11, surrendered the Catholic Church to Mary, the earthly mother of Jesus Christ, instead of Jesus himself. He said even the current Pope Francis has also done same. He said Catholics are not Christians and do not worship the same Christ that he preaches in his church, at least the one spoken about in the Bible. Okotie said he did not write the Bible but it was clear to him that those in the Catholic church were lost and were heading to hell fire. “They don’t believe in heaven. They believe in purgatory, the purgatory that they invented,” Okotie said. “That church, the Catholic church has been there for Satan and at the right time, they will declare for Satan,”Okotie said. Okotie who has been married twice and divorced also twice said a beauty pageant will take place in his church next Sunday to select the most beautiful woman in his church. He also said his yearly “Grace programme” where he makes donations to charity organisations will also take place next Sunday. The once rock star turned celebrity preacher and politician has been controversial for years. He once said it was the devil who told him for the first time that he was going to be a preacher. He also said Nigeria’s famous preacher Prophet T.B. Joshua is the son of the devil and his followers will go straight to hell. In recent years, he has been saying that God has anointed him to be Nigeria’s president. That prophecy has not come to pass in two presidential elections that he participated in |
Sports / Chelsea Youngster Kenneth Omeruo Is One To Watch At The World Cup by buntercos(m): 11:25pm On Dec 01, 2013 |
When Kenneth Omeruo returned to Chelsea training after Nigeria qualified for the World Cup on November 16, David Luiz walked over to the youngster, shook his hand and said: “Well done, welcome to Brazil.’’ This week’s group-stage draw will further focus the minds of those heading to the 2014 World Cup. Luiz’s compatriots, Oscar, Ramires and Willian, also congratulated the 20-year-old centre-half. So did the other players. Omeruo has yet to make his debut for Chelsea but is popular amongst the players and is highly regarded enough by Jose Mourinho to have a shirt, No 59, and a place in training. Omeruo is being talked of as one of the potential young stars of the tournament. He has had a remarkable year, winning his first cap in January against Cape Verde, winning the Africa Cup of Nations, playing in the Confederations Cup in Brazil and guaranteeing a return with that qualifying success in a rainy Calabar and his 15th cap. "I’ve been dreaming of playing in the World Cup," said Omeruo. "Playing in the Confederations Cup gave us the desire that we had to be in the World Cup. I’m really looking forward to the draw. If we get England, we will have to prepare our minds right. "At Chelsea, we are really focused on the club but sometimes Jose makes fun. In a training session last week, I made a wrong pass. ‘If you do that in the World Cup, Nigeria is out!’ Jose said. We were laughing. It’s quite quiet now about the World Cup between the players but after the draw, it will get noisy. "I talked to Luiz about the World Cup. He speaks good English and he’s a really nice guy. Before the last game (the win over Ethiopia), Luiz and the other Brazilians were making fun of us: ‘Are you are going to qualify?!’ It’s nice. When I came back, Luiz said: ‘Well done, welcome to Brazil.’ They all said nice things. "It was great when we qualified. Everyone was so happy. It was like when we won the Nations Cup, it was crazy. Everyone was on the street. We couldn’t fail the fans. We had to qualify for them. When I was injured (a shoulder injury picked up against Spain during the Confederations Cup) I got messages and tweets from fans saying how much they missed me. The coach Stephen Keshi called me to find out how I was doing, to let me know I was still part of the team. I was eager to come back and play." This will be the Super Eagles’ fifth World Cup and a nation of 160 million backs them passionately. "When I was young, and Nigeria won, I would join everyone running in the streets of Abuja, the capital where I grew up. My dad is a plumber and my mum has a small restaurant. We always watched Nigeria’s games. From when I was a young age, my mum always said: ‘One day you’re going to wear the national team jersey.’ It’s happened. The Africa Nations was in Abuja which made my mother very happy. She didn’t miss anything. She closed the restaurant, and everyone came to the games, always wishing me good luck." He was too young to remember Nigeria’s greatest side which reached the round of 16 at USA 94 and France 98. "People always talk about the 94 team. Michael Emenalo (Chelsea’s technical director) was in the team. The coach now, Stephen Keshi, was the captain then. When he addresses us, he says that he sees the character of that 94 side in us now. It means a lot. "There were times when there was no unity in the national team. In 2010, the country was really disappointed with the outcome." The president Goodluck Jonathan was so angered by the team’s performance in South Africa that he briefly banned them. "Now the atmosphere is really good. We work together. Now if you see us, everyone jokes with each other. We have a character Azubuike (Egwuekwe), a centre-back who plays in Nigeria (for Warri Wolves). He is the character, very loud and jokey. He makes fun of even the coaches when they are not paying attention. We won the Nations Cup, the Under-17s won the World Cup (in November) and we’ve qualified for Brazil. We just have to improve on that and make an impression in the World Cup." He’s come a long way. "I grew up playing in the streets of Abuja. We’re a football family. My father used to be a goalkeeper locally, not serious. My older brother plays. My younger brother will be going to Standard Liege for a trial. A coach of a boys’ club came to our house, talked to my parents and said: ‘Your son is playing with me’. I played barefoot in matches until I was 10. In 2009, I went to Anderlecht for two months, came back, and then Standard Liege sent for me. "I was playing at Standard Liege in the reserves, then played in the Under-20 World Cup and got a call that Chelsea were interested. Emenalo was the one that called. I couldn’t believe it. Chelsea! I watched Chelsea growing up. I liked Mikel and I used to hear about Celestine Babayaro. When Chelsea win in Nigeria, people celebrate like it’s the country winning. Chelsea are more popular than Manchester United in Nigeria. United are the second. "In some places they actually fight after Chelsea against Manchester United games. You also see the bikers who do the transportation ride around with the flags of Chelsea and Man U. That’s how much they love football in Nigeria. "When I got signed by Chelsea I was loaned directly to Den Haag to improve my game. Their fans are passionate. Every player has a song the fans sing to boost you. The Den Haag fans shout my name and sing: ‘He’s here, he’s there, he’s every f****** where’." Omeruo played right-back to cover for injuries but “centre-back is my best position”. Mourinho clearly rates him. "The way he talks about me, and says ‘Kenneth, my friend’, gave me the impression he actually likes me. After the Nations Cup when he came in, Mikel told me Jose asked after me. So I was happy that he recognizes me. "In Nigeria everyone says: ‘He’s the Special One! The Special One!’ Coming close you really know why he’s special. The players respect him. He knows how to handle the players, how to talk to us. The training is the best. At first it was difficult to cope but now I’m used to it. Before the West Ham game, he knew what pattern West Ham were going to play. We were the other team, playing like West Ham were going to play, and everything Jose spoke about in training happened in the game. I got to respect him even more because of that. "The players are nice people. Michael Essien is really nice to me. Ashley Cole always encourages me. Every tackle I win you always hear him say: ‘Well done Kenneth’. Ash tells me: ‘It’s going to be your time soon and you have to grab the opportunity when it comes’. John Terry is good, talking to us. He’s huge, strong. As a young player when I watch the older ones, putting so much effort into training, I tell myself I have to do more. "I have to be really focused in training. Each striker is a talent. If you have not conceded a goal for five minutes, you think you are good enough to play anywhere. It’s tough playing against Fernando Torres. You have to be strong and make sure he doesn’t beat you. These are great players I used to watch when I was in Belgium. It feels good to play with them. Samuel Eto’o is so big in Africa. I was really happy when I got to meet Eto’o and Essien." Omeruo nodded at the mention of the kinship between African footballers seen with the continent’s support of Ghana in the knock-out stages of 2010. "We give all the support to all the other African countries. In the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia, when Ghana were out, their coaches and players came to us and said: ‘You are the ones left now, make us proud’." Omeruo hopes to make his country, his continent and Chelsea proud.

Sports / Lamps Hails Mikel's Efforts by buntercos(m): 8:09pm On Nov 25, 2013 |
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has credited his impressive performance at the weekend to the adequate defensive cover provided by Nigeria's John Mikel Obi. Lampard scored twice as the Blues recorded a 3-0 win over his boyhood club, West Ham. While Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho haa spoken glowingly about his attacking players like Oscar and Samuel Eto'o, the England international has singled out Mikel for praise. "It was enjoyable, because from the first minute we were on it," Lampard told Chelsea TV. "We haven’t done it well enough away from home this season and having lost some silly points in the last two games we were very up for it. It was a very complete performance, we caused them loads of problems. "Obi in there is a great guarantee behind you. It certainly gives me a few more opportunities to get forward." |
Sports / We Showed Italy Too Much Respect Regrets Keshi by buntercos(m): 7:22pm On Nov 19, 2013 |
Nigeria would have beaten four-time world champions Italy on Monday but showed them too much respect, according to coach Stephen Keshi. Monday night’s friendly at Craven Cottage ended in a thrilling 2-2 draw. “Maybe, we had too much of respect for them, but am sure if by chance we meet at the World Cup, we will put up a better performance,” Keshi looking back at the game. He therefore demanded more work and focus from his players in the lead-up to next year’s World Cup in Brazil. “It’s time to go back and work hard for our various clubsides and stay healthy, because that will form the basis for invitation when we resume next year,” he said. “The truth is that not everybody here will go to the World Cup, but that is how football goes, so those who want to be part of the team must remain fit and play regularly for their clubsides.” England-based stars like Mikel Obi, Shola Ameobi and Victor Moses have since rejoined their clubs. Keshi and other team officials are expected back in Nigeria on Thursday morning, as they will depart London Wednesday night via Heathrow Airport for Lagos. Keshi is expected to start preparations for the 2014 CHAN early December, with only home- based professionals. The event holds in January in South Africa.

Phones / Nokia Android Prototype Reportedly Is Still Into Production by buntercos(m): 9:59pm On Sep 20, 2013 |
Last week the New York Times revealed that Nokia has indeed worked on an Android smartphone as an alternative to the Microsoft partnership prior to the acquisition announcement. As it turns out, the Finns haven't completely scraped the Android project and are still working on an Android smartphone. The report comes from a Weibo account CTechnology, which has generally been a reputable source of leaks from China. we are mentioning China, because this where Nokia has based the R&D of its Android smartphoneр dubbed "Mountain View", more specifically in the Beijing offices of the company. In fact, the project is so ahead in its development that Foxconn has made and delivered a cool 10,000 "Mountain View" prototype units to date. Moreover, there are still more development that's going around the prototype and Foxconn is continuing its manufacturing. According to the report, the project will continue to live on at least until November. Then, Nokia shareholders are bound to approve or denounce Microsoft's acquisition offer. As for the "Mountain View" prototype itself, Nokia has based it on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 8225Q chip with the sole intention of the Android smartphone to be affordable. No more information regarding further specifications is available at this point. We wouldn't be surprised if we some of these prototypes leak when, and if, the project gets cancelled. The Microsoft and Nokia deal, however, is likely to pass and the company's Android initiative is likely to go bite the dust by the end of the year. Here's hoping we at least get to see how the "Mountain View" prototype looks like if the project really does go south.

TV/Movies / Melvin Rubs The Ladies by buntercos(m): 3:30am On Aug 13, 2013 |
Hmmm, what do we have here? It is Melvin getting his hands all over the ladies of The Chase. Could it be that the Nigerian male model is looking into a career in massage therapy as a backup plan or was he just feeling generous this evening? Either way the Ruby ladies definitely did not mind having the Nigerian work his magic hands all over them. First it was Cleo that got the royal treatment from the Nigerian. As she splayed herself on the bed, Melvin took hold of her feet and gave her a soothing foot rub. After that his attention was shifted to his country mate Beverly who was treated to a relaxing back massage. All the Nigerian girl had to do was lay down and enjoy as Melvin worked the kinks out of her back. After that the Ruby fellow climbed on top of Dillish and proceeded to work those magic fingers on her. The pretty Ruby lady lay on her stomach with her bright pink dress pulled down to her waist and her bra off as Melvin poured a bit of soothing oil on her back and then rubbed her down. He also gave her a foot rub too. Such lucky girls, seriously! It seems like every second of the day one of the boys is fawning over the girls and you can tell that they love the attention; as they always lap it up like kittens with bowls of milk. Must be nice!

Phones / The LG G2 Is Finally Official With A 5.2-inch Screen, Snapdragon 800 by buntercos(m): 5:28pm On Aug 07, 2013 |
Abandoning the Optimus branding for its highest-end devices, today LG finally announced their latest flagship - the LG G2. At 5.2-inches, the LG G2 has a slightly bigger screen than the current crop of high-end smartphones. The resolution however, is the same at 1920 x 1080 px. The screen is a IPS unit with a brightness rating of 450nits. The LG G2 display uses something called Graphic RAM (GRAM) to reduce power consumption up to 26% when displaying a still image. LG claims this increases the expected overall battery life by up to 10%. What's particularly striking about the phone is ultra-slim bezel and the lack of any hardware keys on the front (or sides, for that matter) The only hardware key is actually positioned on the back. It's actually a combo of several buttons in one. That's the power/ sleep key dead center along with the volume keys. The volume keys also double as shortcuts for the camera and Quick Memo feature. The reason behind the decision to position this key here is to make handling extra large smartphones easier and less prone to dropping. The LG G2 is based around a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. According to Qualcomm's CEO, who appeared in stage today, the G2 is the first phone to launch on a world-wide scale with this top-shelf processor. The storage capacity is set at either 16GB or 32GB. Supposedly, there is a microSD slot as well, but it seems that will only be available in certain markets and the units LG brought to NYC didn't have such a thing. The 13MP camera is on par with the rest of the top notch hardware. It's got optical image stabilization (OIS) and can record FullHD 1080p videos in up to 60fps. LG has also worked hard on the quality of audio output. The phone can reproduce Hi-Fi 24 bit/192kHz. LG has also collaborated with the Vienna Boy's Choir to freshen up the available sounds and ringtones on the device. The LG G2 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. As customary for Android flagships, the LG G2 offers several proprietary features to differentiate. You can double tap on the screen to wake it up and tap again to turn it back off. The phone will readily auto answer a call when you pick it up to your ear. There is an innovative Guest mode to secure the privacy of your data when friends want to check out your new smartphone or when you hand down your phone to your kid. Finally, you can get rid of a currently active app and minimize it by a three-finger swipe across the screen. Speaking of multi-tasking, the G2 can store your app progress in up to three different apps. The screenshotting feature can capture a whole webpage or a long email, not just the content in your viewport. The LG G2 also has an Infrared port that can be used to remotely control home entertainment devices by learning from their conventional remotes. Connectivity-wise, the LG G2 makes use of the latest generation LTE-A connectivity (up to 150Mbps), as well as dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. For power backup, the LG G2 relies on a 3,000mAh Li-Po battery. LG G2 will be available in black or white and will launch to over 130 carriers in the next eight weeks starting in South Korea, followed by North America, Europe and other key markets. Source..

Sports / Chelsea 2 - Internazionale 0 by buntercos(m): 3:55am On Aug 02, 2013 |
The Blues impressed again under Jose Mourinho, making it four wins from four so far this preseason The Blues booked a spot in the International Champions Cup semifinal on Sunday by beating Inter Milan in Indianapolis tonight. Their next opponent will now be Inter's closest rivals, as AC Milan beat Valencia 2-0 to get the tournament underway. It was a sloppy start to the game, with the first ten minutes or so highlighted more by poor passes and ugly first touches than anything worth watching. That all changed 13 minutes in though, as Victor Moses took possession deep in Chelsea territory, ran the length of the pitch with the ball, and picked out Oscar who curled it into the net. Just like that, Chelsea were in the lead. Chelsea got a fortunate call int the 27th minute, as Romelu Lukaku left a beautiful ball in the path of a full speed Victor Moses. The Inter defense had no choice but to foul, and the referee incorrectly ruled that Moses was inside the box when the foul occurred. One Eden Hazard penalty later, it was 2-0 Chelsea. The rest of the first half was pretty quiet, with Branbearpig's yellow card being the only real item of note. Jose made some changes at the half, bringing on Mark Schwarzer , Michael Essien , and Juan Mata for Petr Cech, Victor Moses, and Oscar. Inter found the back of the net just minutes into the half, but it was correctly waved off for offside. Fifty eight minutes in, Inter was down to ten after Campagnaro was correctly sent off for an absolutely awful challenge on John Terry. The official probably stopped play too early there, as the ball had fallen to Chelsea for a two on one break. In a real game, that would have irritated me. Tonight, I just don't care. David Luiz and Demba Ba came on immediately after the red card, with Romelu Lukaku and Gary Cahill making way. Cesar Azpilicueta and John Obi Mikel replaced Branislav Ivanovic and Marco van Ginkel several minutes later, with Chelsea still comfortably controlling most of the play. Chelsea used the remainder of their bench in the 73rd minute, bringing on Fernando Torres and Ryan Bertrand for Ashley Cole and Eden Hazard. Twenty minute later, the referee blew the 2-0 victory to a close. Here are a few quick thoughts in the immediate aftermath of this one: Marco van Ginkel covers an awful lot of ground. It's hard not to be impressed by what we saw from him tonight, even if he's still not fully in sync with his teammates. Inter tried to run a high line tonight, and Victor Moses looked absolutely fantastic in tearing it apart. He's a real weapon when used correctly, and I trust Jose Mourinho to get the best out of him far more than I did the last guy in charge. Chelsea with Oscar is far more fun to watch than Chelsea without Oscar. Michael Essien looked awfully good this evening, moving fairly well for an old guy. Indiana used to be prime Bison country though, so he probably felt right at home. The spacing between the defensive line and the band of three was perfect tonight, something that's not surprising given the new man in charge. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see massive improvement in the midfield this season just based on more competent management, as the space between the lines has been an issue for most of the past two years. The Mikel/Essien pivot could be a lot of fun to watch, as Mikel actually looked comfortable enough with his partner that he often ventured into the attack. He's going to score a goal this season, just watch. As much as the name of Inter Milan has been associated with quality recently, this team didn't look like they're going to be very good this season based on what we saw tonight. It was certainly a much better opponent than any of the three in Asia, but I wouldn't get too worked up about dominating a work in progress.

Sports / Chelsea 2 Inter Milan 0 by buntercos(m): 3:40am On Aug 02, 2013 |
Summary The Blues will play AC Milan with a place in the Guinness International Champions Cup at stake, after a comfortable 2-0 win over their city rivals Inter in Indianapolis. Two goals inside the opening half- hour, an Oscar stunner followed by an Eden Hazard penalty, put us in control of the match, and when our opponents were reduced to 10 men after the break the Italians were always up against it. While winning matches is always imperative, even during pre- season, Jose Mourinho will have been pleased he was able to give those players who took part in the Confederations Cup some much- needed minutes on the pitch, while also managing the rest of the squad carefully. Team news Mourinho opted to select a strong, experienced back four in front of Petr Cech , with John Terry skippering the team alongside Gary Cahill. The full-back spots were taken by Branislav Ivanovic and Ashley Cole . In midfield, youngster Marco van Ginkel partnered Ramires , with the width provided by Victor Moses and Eden Hazard. Oscar was the only one of the six players involved at the Confederations Cup to start the game, operating in a central role behind lone striker Romelu Lukaku. First half Having comfortably won all three matches on our tour of Asia, the game against Inter presented our first serious test of pre-season. It was the Blues, however, who threatened first, and we were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty inside three minutes when Oscar was brought down by Andrea Ranocchia following good work by both Hazard and Lukaku. It took until the 10th minute for Inter to go close, and we breathed a huge collective sigh of relief as Fredy Guarin's well-hit volley flew inches past Cech's right-hand post. Two minutes later, though, it was Chelsea who took the lead, and the deadlock was broken with a goal of the highest quality. As an Inter move broke down deep inside our half we broke at speed through Moses, who was allowed to advance to the edge of the penalty area. With options to his left and right in the form of Oscar and Lukaku, the Nigerian opted for the former, who curled an exquisite strike beyond Samir Handanovic into the top corner. Oscar only returned to training earlier this week following his summer break, but he looked as lively as any other player on the pitch during the opening exchanges. Chelsea had certainly started the brighter of the two sides, particularly from an attacking point of view, but the Inter threat remained, and Cech was forced into a brilliant save to deny Rodrigo Palacio in the 20th minute after his shot deflected towards goal off the leg of Van Ginkel. Five minutes later Oscar had a good opportunity to double our advantage - and his own personal tally - when he raced on to a wonderful pass by Hazard, but with Handanovic advancing off his line, the Brazilian opted for the lob and put too much weight on his strike. Within three minutes, however, it was 2-0, but the second goal came amid controversial circumstances. As Moses picked the ball up and drove towards goal, he was clearly fouled by Alvaro Pereira, and the referee showed no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot, much to the frustration of the Inter players, who argued the incident had taken place outside the box. Replays appeared to show that there was some justification in their complaints, but with the decision already made, Hazard strode forward and calmly sent Handanovic the wrong way with his second penalty in as many games. In truth, we'd clearly benefited from what was a poor decision, but Walter Mazzarri's side could have no complaints about their two-goal deficit, with the Blues in total control during the opening 45 minutes. The Serie A outfit were struggling to live with the pace and movement of Moses, Oscar and Hazard, while at the other end, Terry and Cahill were seldom troubled. Second half As anticipated, Mourinho reshuffled his pack at the break, with Mark Schwarzer replacing Cech in goal, while Michael Essien and Juan Mata were also introduced to the action, at the expense of Moses and Oscar. The changes to personnel meant Van Ginkel was now partnered by Essien in midfield, with Ramires moving out to play wide on the right and Mata taking up a central role. The second half began in a similar manner to how the first ended, with the Blues enjoying plenty of possession and knocking the ball around confidently. Hazard went close with a fizzing effort, before Lukaku crashed a strike against the foot of the post from a tight angle as we looked to put the game to bed. Inter's task was made all the more difficult just before the hour mark when they were reduced to ten men, Hugo Campagnaro the player seeing red for a nasty foul on Terry as the two challenged for the ball in the middle of the park. Mourinho made two more changes soon after, with David Luiz replacing Cahill and Lukaku making way for Demba Ba, as he attempted to give each player the necessary game time. As the clock ticked down, our one- man advantage was allowing us to control the pace of the game, with Inter tiring as they attempted to win back possession. Ryan Bertrand and Fernando Torres , the last of our substitutes, entered the action with 18 minutes left to play, with the Spaniard playing as the focal point of our attack and Ba shifting out wide on the left. Torres went close shortly after coming on but was unable to get enough power behind his strike, while Ba tested Handanovic with a powerful strike from long-range late on. The damage had been done before the break, however, and it's the Blues who will now face AC Milan in New Jersey on Sunday. Phones / Sony Announces Android 4.3 Update Whitelist by buntercos(m): 5:32pm On Jul 25, 2013 |
Sony has just published the list of devices that will be getting the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update that was announced yesterday. On the smartphone side, the company will be bringing the latest Jelly Bean version to the Xperia Z , Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia SP and Xperia Z Ultra . The only tablet that is confirmed to get treated to the latest Android release at this point is the Xperia Tablet Z . Sony is currently seeding the Jelly Bean 4.2 update for the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL. Starting from early August, the Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z will get Android 4.2 as well. Some older Xperia phones running Android 4.1 are still under examination. There's a possibility that at least some of them will be updated straight to Android 4.3, but no names have been confirmed yet. Additionally, Sony acknowledges that its updates haven't been "as succinct or as timely as you might’ve expected." The company's developers have now changed their workflow to assure that future updates arrive faster. The whole procedure is detailed in a lengthy and educational blog post , in case you are interested. |
Phones / Android 4.3 Unveiled With Improved Multi- User Support by buntercos(m): 6:15pm On Jul 24, 2013 |
Android 4.3 has officially been announced – it's been in the wild on Google Play Edition devices for a while, but the unveiling was put off for today. So, what's new? Well, 4.3 is a minor upgrade so it brings minor improvements and refines the user experience, rather than delivering game-changing features. Multi-user support was introduced in 4.2 and it's updated in 4.3 with the new restricted profiles. A restricted profile can limit what content and apps can be used – even limit in-app stuff like what levels of a game can be played. The suite of stock apps has been updated - Hangouts now officially replaces Talk and Keep is available out of the box. The Drive, Chrome and Maps applications have been revamped too. The way Android handles notifications has been changed too. For one, you can view your notification history. Also, third party apps have access to notifications, which will help smart watches and apps that sync notifications across devices. There are plenty of changes under the hood too. OpenGL ES 3.0 is now supported (Google presented impressive improvements in 3D game graphics) and the graphics stack should be faster overall. For games, Google unveiled the Google Play Games app, which lets you keep track of what your friends are playing and a leader board of achievements in the game. The "master key" exploit has been incorporated into Android 4.3, of course. Bluetooth 4.0 with Low Energy mode (low power usage and longer range for low-bandwidth accessories like those fitness tracking gadgets) is now supported in stock Android. Before, each maker had to roll its own drivers. Also for Bluetooth, AVRCP 1.3 is supported, meaning the phone can stream metadata about the currently playing song to the wireless speakers (or your car's stereo). Wi-Fi can be kept on at all times to determine your position, even when you toggle it off. A new hardware-based encryption for DRM has been added so content providers will be more willing to stream high-quality content. A new Netflix app is among the first to make use of this and streams 1080p video (it's now available in the Play Store). An Android 4.3 update will be available on Nexus devices from the Galaxy Nexus up (4, 7, 10, you name it). Google Play devices - Galaxy S4 and Nexus One Google Play Edition will get the update soon too. |

Sports / Isaiah Brown Confirms That He Has Officially Joined Chelsea by buntercos(m): 1:03am On Jul 20, 2013 |
West Bromwich Albion youth product Isaiah Brown has officially joined Chelsea, though he's actually been here for a few weeks. espite training at Chelsea for a few weeks, and playing a couple U21 friendlies in the United States, there was still a little bit of doubt about West Bromwich Albion youth product Isaiah Brown's move to West London. Until today, that is. This evening, he shared an official confirmation of his move on his personal Twitter account: After there has been a lot of talk about my future, I can now official say I am a Chelsea Fc player!!!! Dreams do come true. Brown has been a Chelsea supporter since childhood, so this move will really be a dream come true for him. Unfortunately, we don't yet know how much Chelsea will have to pay West Brom in compensation, but it's nice to have an official confirmation of this controversial move. The move was always almost- certain to be completed, due to the recently-enacted Elite Player Performance Plan regulations, which has simplified the transfer of Academy players within England, though in a way which has made many smaller academies unhappy. Either way, it's glad to finally get something official on this deal, and that Izzy Brown has been able to make his dream move to Chelsea. We only have to wait for the decision of compensation now, if one is to be forthcoming at all. |

Sports / Obuh Resigns by buntercos(m): 2:07pm On Jul 05, 2013 |
Obuh, who led the team to a second round exit at the Fifa Under-20 World Cup in Turkey, said he need handed in his letter to the NFF on Thursday morning. "I went in to the office on Thursday and handed my resignation letter to the NFF General Secretary," Obuh told KickOffNigeria.com . "I need some time off to think about my future and spend time with my family." Obuh has spent the last six years coaching Nigerian cadets, with one spell at Under-17 and two as Under-20 coach. He guided the Under-17 team to the final of the World Cup where they were surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Switzerland. He was rewarded with the Under-20 job, and won the African title in his first spell in charge, but saw his side knocked out in the quarterfinal of the World Cup. Two years later, the team looked a poor shadow of that side despite having returnees from that triumphant team. When they lost in the round of 16 to Uruguay, the handwriting was in the wall for Obuh, who eventually decided to throw in the towel. The former Sharks coach will now meet with NFF officials next week to work out payment schedule for his outstanding wages and allowances.
