leadership tussle in the Celestial Church of Christ as Oshoffa’s 20th child, Olatoso, emerges new leader The leadership tussle in the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) Worldwide yesterday took a new turn as Reverend Olatoso Matthew Oshoffa emerged the new spiritual head. Olatoso Oshoffa, the 20th child of the late CCC founder, Samuel Bilewu Joseph Oshoffa, is taking the seat vacated by his elder brother, Emmanuel Mobiyina Oshoffa, following a court order. At a briefing in Lagos yesterday, Olatoso Oshoffa said he had been ordained by God and elders in the church to be the new spiritual head and unify various factions. It would be recalled that an Ilaro High Court in Ogun State had on March 26, 2015, terminated the tenure of Emmanuel Oshoffa, under whom Olatoso served as personal assistant. Besides the CCC not allegedly making progress in 12 years of his elder brother’s reign, Olatoso Oshoffa said the court’s ruling “saddened my heart as the church was not developing in the last 30 years that my father had passed on and my brother also being removed as the pastor of CCC, worldwide.” Explaining the revelation that confirmed his candidacy, he said: “During one of my journeys to France, specifically on the 30th of May 2015, my father appeared to me and said ‘My son, Olatoso, the church has diverted from my calling and I want you to stand up, take up my abandoned work and lead my children.’ “To me, it was a big challenge, even though a confirmation of such had gone forth through several prophesies and revelations since my birth and well even before the appointment of my brother as the pastor of CCC worldwide. “I have met several spiritual leaders in the church, telling them the revelation I received from my father and from God Almighty. A lot of them did prayed about it and confirmed that the revelation is truly from my father and indeed from God. Hence, my acceptance of the leadership nomination to come and unite our church, ensure stability and peace and to build our Celestial Church of Christ worldwide as started by my father and founder.” The 45-year-old new spiritual head disclosed that his appointment and declaration as the “Unification Leader” of CCC was done in Imeko, Ogun State on June 10, 2015 after series of consultations. Oshoffa said the development showed that his siblings were united on his candidacy and ready to support him in the daunting task ahead. He recalled that the age-long crisis in the CCC, since the founder died in 1985, had been foreseen by his late father, and just “a trying time for the CCC”. Olatoso said his emergence as leader, though “a sacrifice” on his path, would restore all the lost glories of the white-garment church. He said his priority would, among others, include uniting the church, ensuring physical and spiritual growth, improving upon welfare of members and workers as well as completion and commissioning of the Imeko cathedral and other infrastructure within five years. http://nigeriacamera.net/leadership-tussle-in-the-celestial-church-of-christ-as-oshoffas-20th-child-olatoso-emerges-new-leader/

Just months after she was almost beaten to death by a mob in Magodo for breaking into a man’s flat with the help of a master key, Yetunde has once again reportedly been disgraced at Yaba where she is currently undergoing training in cosmetic makeup in a bid to hustle to make ends meet. The young lady who has already been branded the bad name-thief, decided to steal from her boss, the lady who teaches her makeup. Her madam had just stocked her shop with iphones, laptops and other gadgets she newly brought into the country. At the close of day, everybody went home, but Yetunde came back later at night with a master key. She gained entrance into the store and took away some Iphones, Ipads and laptops before someone spotted her. She was accosted and later arrested but as usual, she blamed it on the devil and the strange voice she claims she usually hears that urges her to go and steal. The shop owner who was called later rushed to the scene, called in the police who whisked her away. But two days after, Yetunde was released which made the lady upset. She then called in another set of police men who have now re-arrested her. She’s in custody waiting to be charged to court. Her sister, Bose Akilapa who is so upset about her sister’s dilemma, said their mother is behind Yetunde’s misfortune because she once cursed her. Angry Bose is said to have gone to call her mother names asking her to reverse the curse and in-between the argument she tore her mother’s clothes. Oyibo people will say Yetunde is suffering from ‘Kleptomania’. Our people will say it is a spiritual problem. Whatever it is, this young woman needs help and fast! Ghana superstar Asamoah Gyan has stated that John Obi Mikel will ‘definitely’ be switching to United Arab Emirates side Al Ain this summer, with the midfielder having been linked heavily with a transfer away from Chelsea. I heard it this week that he has agreed terms with Al Ain and will most definitely be playing for us next season,” the striker began, “it’s great news for us because Mikel Obi is a very good player and very experienced.Speaking to Metro TV, Gyan has expressed his desire for Mikel to come and join him in Abu Dhabi. “It will be exciting playing with him in the same team, because I believe both of us, with the help of our other colleagues, can do more for the club.” Mikel moved to Stamford Bridge in 2006, and has since become one of the most successful African stars of his generation. Mikel has struggled for first-team football since his mentor Jose Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge, with only six starts in the EPL as the Blues lifted the English championship.. However, his time with the Pensioners looks to be coming to an end, with both Al Ain and Turkish giants Fenerbahce linked with a move for the Super Eagle, according to the Express. The striker’s success in the Middle East, since leaving Premier League Sunderland in 2011 may well encourage Mikel to consider a switch to the UAE. http://nigeriacamera.net/mikel-will-play-at-al-ain-next-season-ghana-star-gyan/

Wife of Nigeria’s president, Hajia Aisha Buhari, on Sunday in Abuja urged Nigerians to embrace Yoga to enhance their physical and mental well-being.Buhari, who spoke at the First International Day of Yoga, organised by the Indian High Commission in Abuja, said, “Yoga is a gift from India to the world”. Aisha who was represented by Mrs Alanyingi Sylva, the wife of the of the former governor of Bayelsa, Timipre Sylva, pointed out that Yoga had been a success story of India. “Her (Aisha’s) message is to thank the Indian High Commission for bringing Yoga and to encourage Nigerians to embrace the initiative of Yoga. “This is because, it (Yoga) is for the well-being of your mind and body. Yoga is a very welcome initiative by the Indian High Commission because it has been around and it has been a source of well-being for the Indian people. “It is a gift from India to the world. They’ve had a success story of Yoga for thousands of years and they are bringing it to Nigeria. “We hope it is going to add to the well-being of Nigerians. Nigerians should do what is physically fit for them to enhance their well-being,” she said. The Indian High Commissioner, Mr Ajjanpur Ghanashyam, said Yoga was a concept designed for the well-being and wellness of humankind. He said: “It tries to put together the body, the mind and the soul with the rest of environment and nature. “The beauty of it is it doesn’t require any money, it doesn’t require equipment; it does not require any kind of financial investment and it helps you. “Basically what it does is to make sure that your bones are fit, the joints of your bones are well-healed and well-oiled. “You also feel more focused when you do your work and much more happy with yourself, with your family, with your environment and with your friends. “So most people think that Yoga is a form of exercise; it is not just an exercise, it is much more than exercise,” he said. Ghanashuam said Yoga had the capacity to increase the oxygen content inside the body to ensure well-being. “It has been proved that children who do Yoga perform better in their examinations. “They are able to hold their minds and focus on to what they are doing by helping their attention span to go up,” he said. The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, whose address was read by Ghanashyam, said India was proud that the UN had taken Yoga as one of the world’s invaluable legacies. “If we really wish to have a stable, stress-free life, we need to have a stable inner self. “The opportunity of stability of inner self comes through the practice of Yoga when we attempt to explore our inner self everyday for a certain period of time.” NAN reports that the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014, declared June 21 of every year as the International Day of Yoga. http://nigeriacamera.net/aisha-buhari-urges-nigerians-to-embrace-yoga/

A 34-year-old man, Solomon Ajisafe, has been arrested by the police for allegedly torturing his girlfriend, Tope Amuda, in the Igbo Olomu, Ikorodu West area of Lagos State. Information learnt that Solomon, together with his mother, a leader in the Oodua People’s Congress, and some hoodlums flogged Amuda with canes for alleged adultery. Our correspondents were told that afterwards, she was taken round the community, before ground pepper was allegedly inserted in her private parts. The incident happened last Sunday at about 7pm on Aminu Toyin Street. A resident, who identified herself only as Adunni, told PUNCH Metro that attempts made by neighbours to stop the torture was rebuffed by the OPC. Adunni said Amuda, a 25-year-old Osun State indigene, lost her mind due to the trauma she suffered. She said, “They did not allow anybody to rescue her. They made jest of her for hours as they took her round the community. I saw her; she was speaking to herself and was incoherent. That was when I discovered that she had lost her mind.” The General Secretary, Igbo Olomu Community Development Association, and Coordinator, Women Arise Initiative in the area, Adebayo Obatungbase, said she reported the matter at the Igbo Olomu Police Division. She said the community was planning to send away Solomon’s mother, whose name was given simply as Mrs. Ajisafe, from the community. She said, “The suspect’s mother calls herself a prophetess, but she is also a member of the OPC. We have decided to send her away from this community.” The Chairman, Igbo Olomu CDA, Michael Adekoya, described the incident as “sheer acts of wickedness.” He said, “The police are trying, but we need special attention from the government. This community has turned to something else. Why would a normal human being insert pepper in a woman’s private parts?” However, Solomon told our correspondents that he only slapped his girlfriend, adding that they had been dating for the past four years without anything to show for the relationship. He said, “I am a hardworking man and I had a son before I met her. We have dated for four years and during that period; there was no child between us. She has been a thorn in my flesh because she always made trouble with my family. “She later fought with my mother and because of that, she decided to pack out of the house. Nine months later, she returned and said she was three months pregnant for me. That was when I beat her. I confessed to the police that I beat her up, but it was only a slap which made her eye to swell.” Solomon’s sister-in-law, Ayomide Ajayi, a nursing mother, who was equally arrested, told PUNCH Metro she was innocent. Ajayi, 27, said, “I don’t know anything about the allegation. You can ask her.” But the victim, Amuda, insisted that Solomon and his family members tortured her. Amuda, who spoke in Yoruba, said, “He and his family members used bottle to insert pepper into my private parts. I am done with this relationship. Let everybody go their separate ways.” A police source told one of our correspondents it was possible Amuda was also flogged with a charm. The source said, “When we picked her from the general hospital, she could barely walk. They really dealt with her and she has been giving us some useful information on their occult operation.” Our correspondents learnt that the Office of the Public Defender had equally shown interest, leading to the arraignment of Solomon and Ayomide before an Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court on three counts of assault. The charges read in part, “That you, Solomon Ajisafe, Ayomide Ajayi and others now at large, on June 14, 2015, at about 7pm on Aminu Toyin Street, Igbo-Olomu, Lagos, in the Ikorodu Magisterial District, did assault one Opeyemi Amuda by beating her with cane all over her body; that you indecently and unlawfully assault her by inserting pepper and a bottle inside her vagina, which caused her bodily harm.” The defendants pleaded not guilty. The magistrate ordered that they be remanded in custody, adding that the case file be forwarded to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, for legal advice. While adjourning the case till July 15, 2015, the magistrate asked the police to take the victim to a rehabilitation centre. http://nigeriacamera.net/boyfriend-inserts-pepper-into-lovers-private-parts-in-ikorodu/

America man who had sex with wife’s dog, feeling she paid too much attention to it arrested An Alabama man allegedly had sex with his wife’s dog Buster because he felt she was paying too much attention to the pet, police said.Jonathan Edward Medley, of Geneva, was charged with animal cruelty after his wife caught him doing the deed with her 2-year-old shih tzu, police told the Dothan Eagle. His wife made the disgusting discovery while spying on Medley for fear he was sleeping with another woman, police said. “She actually thought he was having an affair with another woman and hid a recording device,” Geneva Police Capt. Ricky Morgan told the Eagle. “She learned he was in fact molesting the dog.” Morgan told WTVY Medley was “upset because (his wife) paid more attention to the dog than him.” Buster suffered injuries from the alleged sex that police initially thought might led to his euthanization, but a veterinarian later said Buster is recovering, according to WTVY. Medley, 39, was held on $535 after his arrest Friday. He only faces a misdemeanor charge, as per Alabama law on bestiality. http://nigeriacamera.net/america-man-who-had-sex-with-wifes-dog-feeling-she-paid-too-much-attention-to-it-arrested/

The Oodua Peoples Congress, OPC, has asked the Lagos state publicity secretary of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe, to apologise within seven days for his comments on OPC or incur the wrath of Yoruba gods. The director of media and publicity of the OPC, Yinka Oguntimeyin, said Mr. Igbokwe while speaking with newsmen over OPC’s withdrawal from the pipeline protection contract had described the Yoruba group as “hoodlums and outlaws”. “Why should hoodlums be used in securing pipelines…using OPC is a primitive way of securing pipelines. You don’t give sensitive jobs like pipelines to outlaws,” OPC quoted Igbokwe from PUNCH. OPC said the contract was a duly-signed one between the OPC and NNPC and was supposed to last between March 15 and June 15, 2015. “Igbokwe needs to take a tour to the communities where the pipeline runs through and speak with the residents on their experience since the OPC started watching over the facilities. Our men have brought some sense of safety and security to the people of the areas where these pipelines pass through. “On this note, I wish to say that Mr. Joe Igbokwe withdraws his comments and apologize to the OPC within seven days or risk the wrath of all the deities in Yorubaland. Igbokwe’s latest statement is seen as an insult on the entire Yoruba race and would be punished by Yoruba gods and our ancestors if he fails to apologize within seven days”. “In our land, it is an insult to speak to an Oba in that manner. Even if the Oba makes a mistake, you do not stand in the public gallery to insult him” the group said. OPC said the statement coming from Mr. Igbokwe was not only shocking, but also regrettable. It however said it is not surprised that he would insult and cast aspersions on members of the OPC. “Though it is easy for him and others like him who are benefiting from the struggle to enthrone democracy in our country, he needs to tell us where he was when members of OPC, alongside other activists like Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Dr. Beko Ransome-Kuti and Lagos lawyer, Femi Falana, took on the military after the annulment of the June 12 presidential election. “Igbokwe should tell the world what role he played in the struggle to revalidate the annulment of the election and subsequently enthrone democracy in our country. We need to know where Igbokwe was in 1995 when civil society groups in the country, under the command of NADECCO, organized what was called the ‘mother of all rallies. Where was Igbokwe in 1996 when Olisa Agbakoba led a rally against the military,” OPC asked. The pan Yoruba group said it is on record that most of these activities were led and indeed commanded by members of the OPC. OPC referred Mr. Igbokwe to a judgment of Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court in Abuja, delivered on December 19, 2006, during the detention of Gani Adams and Fredrick Fasehun. “In the judgment, the revered justice ruled that the OPC was not an illegal organization, and ordered that nobody should refer to it as an illegal body. “Aside from this very important ruling on the status of the OPC, we would have expected Igbokwe to know that, as enshrined in the Nigerian constitution, every Nigerian has the right of association and the freedom to associate with one another without molestation. “It is not on record that Igbokwe suffers from memory relapse. But I would like to refresh his memory, hoping that it would do him some good. “Among our members are medical doctors, lawyers and technocrats among others. Also, across Yorubaland, we have initiated and organized more than 18 cultural festivals as part of the efforts to promote Yoruba culture and traditions,” the OPC said. http://nigeriacamera.net/apologize-within-7-days-or-face-yoruba-gods-opc-tells-apcs-spokesperson/

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Emmanuel Babayaro wants the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to strip Vincent Enyeama of his role as captain of the Super Eagles over what he terms as indiscipline. The Lille shot stopper allegedly tore a query letter served to him by the NFF over his criticism of Kaduna State, venue of their Saturday game against Chad which they won 2-0. Enyeama, who has been the Eagles captain since Yobo left the national team after the 2014 world cup, complained of security and the weather in the northern state prior to the game, and also openly criticized the NFF for moving the game to Kaduna as oppose to Abuja, Uyo and Calabar where the Eagles have been playing their games lately. Babayaro in his opinion said if it’s true Enyeama tore the query letter then he should be strip off the captaincy as that singular act is not befitting for a team captain. “The NFF should take the captaincy from him if it’s true he tore the query, as a captain he needs to set good precedence for the young ones and that act is unacceptable as a captain,” he told News24. “No man is bigger than the team not even the captain, England treated John Terry in the same way when he crossed the line, so Enyeama shouldn’t be an exception. http://nigeriacamera.net/babayaro-begs-nff-strip-enyeama-of-captaincy/

A prosecutor of the Kwara State Police Command, Mr. Matthew Ologbon, has informed an Ilorin Magistrate’s Court, presided over by Mr. K.A.Yahyah, that a female National Youth Service Corps member, Miss Yetunde Idowu was raped to death by a 51-year-old man, Abdullahi Tanko, and his gang members. According to the report that Idowu’ corpse was found at the Ilorin GRA. The police prosecutor told the court that on May 23, at about 12pm, the police found Idowu in a pool of blood. Ologbon told the court that investigation by the police revealed that Tanko and his collaborators, now at large, tricked Idowu from her residence to Fate Road, where they raped her to death. He added that Tanko and his gang members raped the deceased inside their car. He said, “After they had raped Idowu, they carried her dead body to a nearby junction. The police located Tanko’s house through the blood traces of the deceased and the suspected killer was arrested. “The mobile phone of the deceased was found with Tanko.” Yahaya ordered that Tanko be remanded in prison, while he adjourned the case till August 10, 2015. http://nigeriacamera.net/killer-gang-who-raped-murdered-female-nysc-corps-member-in-ilorin-kwara-state-arrested/

At the speaker program organized for leaders and leaders to-be, Adeboye preached a sermon titled ‘Not by might”. See excerpts of the message below; ”It takes the Holy Spirit to make the impossible possible. Several years ago, when the Redeemed Christian Church of God was still very small and I mean very small, I told them what God said that presidents will come here to worship but their amen was very weak. ”I moved further to say that God says more than that. God said presidents will be members of the church. They will be ushers but the members then find it difficult to swallow that but mark my words, whenever God speaks, the Holy Spirit sanctioned it. ”Also in our London church which was fewer than us here in Nigeria, I told them that royalties will come to the church and worship; they giggled and said amen. I went further that God said nobody will be in government without our permission and they laughed. On March 28th, 2015, RCCG produced her first Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, a Pastor of parish in Lagos. http://nigeriacamera.net/nigerian-presidents-will-emerge-from-rccg-redeemed-church-adeboye-prophecies/

It may sound naïve, especially for a person who is obviously a partisan, but my concern and alarm have little to do with who won or lost in the National Assembly leadership elections palaver. Easy as this can be lost on the gladiators, we could be collectively sabotaging the poor ordinary people of Nigeria desperate for change. Could this elite which has consistently failed to find its mission and do for its people what their old classmates in schools in the United States and the United Kingdom and elsewhere in the West, have done for their people in Asia and Latin America, unwittingly miss this window built on a change mantra, and betray another generation? It was with this spirit of wondering how easily we chase power, unmindful of purpose that I exclaimed on seeing the political bloodletting in the National Assembly leadership selection. My reaction was, Oh my God, not again! With the process and outcome clearly signalling disunity, lack of discipline and weak goal-setting, and severe goal displacement, the least impact would be challenged implementation of what the people voted for. Oh no! It’s not happening again. Not again in my life time! But it was happening. The sense of déjà vu was not just troubling, and evidently palpable, it had a puzzling force that left you feeling and wondering how this is possible; the way you feel when a 747 or an A380 is tossed around by mere wind in clear air turbulence. The vote for change had run into turbulence at the inauguration of the National Assembly. It was not about who won or who the battle was against. It was about a public brawl and the change agenda. It was about the ordinary people who had persevered so much in the face of underperforming and uncaring governments beholden to special interests and so seemingly unable, or unwilling, to go where less endowed rivals in other parts of the world have gone, and dramatically improved the lot of the people. To drive a change agenda for which the people voted in April, legislative common purpose was a clear imperative. To go to legislative inauguration without party discipline and with a fractious mode and the old ways, of, money and personality politics in top flight, was to betray the voters of this country, and that is what June 9 means to me. Hope has again been annulled and for the third time in my life a costly battle for change has again been hijacked. As 1993 and 1999, so seems to have gone 2015, if the people do not fight back. I was lamenting these things when someone called my attention to an advertised full page opinion by some concerned APC members in the Daily Trust Newspaper of June 9. That advert was so reminiscent of the kinds of advertisements published in 1993/94 by the Concerned Professionals that I did exactly the same thing I did in 1993. In that year, many of us had canvassed a change agenda. The Social Democratic Party and its torch- bearer, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, had come to symbolise that change. Two days after that historic vote, I journeyed to the US to attend a convention. It was at that convention that a Ugandan delegate came up to me, very angry, saying: “You Nigerians, you Nigerians, whenever Africa is set for progress, you drag us back.” I was not sure what he was talking about, but that was how I learnt of the annulment of the June 12 election. I immediately packed my stuff and went up to my room and began writing an OPED piece that would appear under the title, “We Must Say Never Again.” That piece resulted in the founding of the Concerned Professionals. That body acquitted itself well in the struggle against military rule. It was a principle-based struggle. They may have sent policemen to beat us up as we protested and sent assassins after a few like myself but the principle was not lost on them. When Sani Abacha passed and they withdrew under pressure, we erred in thinking our work was done. The politics of the last 16 years that followed left Nigerians so exasperated that they jumped on the Change mantra. So uplifted were they with the outcome that they assumed their world would change dramatically come May 29. Such was the expectations that analysts worried the expectations were unrealistic and bordered on expecting miracles. Then comes June 9. For days before the votes for the National Assembly leaders, I kept saying that for me, it was not about a particular candidate but about a process that shows party discipline and national consensus around an agenda for change. If the process gets fractured, I had warned what will happen will include a return to the old ways of vote buying in which goals of the common good are traded off in the old goal displacement ways, for money and self-interest. Then there is the loss of speed on consensus critical for change legislation. My song was clearly a borrowed verse from the US President, Lyndon Baines Johnson, and Malaysia’s Mahathir Mohammed: It is better for all to be inside the house pissing out, than for some to be outside the house pissing in. It is easy to see it as a simple political game if you miss the cost of these simple games for why Nigeria is poor and our society is marked by much disharmony. You may then analyse the New PDP vs other groups in the All Progressives Congress, or checking certain power blocs. Even many of the actors who presume to be acting in self-interest have embraced a narcissism that has blinded them to their own long term self-interest, as they embrace short term personal gain. Because of this the “only business in town”, politics, manages to do continuous damage to the real sector businesses which give life to a majority of the people. But to the short sighted, it does not matter, this is politics. So, my view was, sort these things out, whether in smoke filled rooms, or in a sanctuary of truth and love for the suffering poor of this endowed society. The signalling from a public brawl that will bruise egos and carve cleavages into the polity and etch animosities into the relationships even in intra-party affairs may create momentary victories but they have a sad way of amounting to pyrrhic victories and delaying the reclaiming of the promise of Nigeria. With mountain high challenges in the economy, trailed by an unemployment time bomb, security problems that go beyond the Boko Haram and kidnappings, and electricity and petroleum sectors, in much need for reforms, even as corruption, failing education and health care make us a tribe of refugees around the planet, now was not the time for politics as usual. I have tired of worrying about raw political power, quest for possessions and quick inclination to predation (The 3Ps) muzzling Purpose, to prevent progress, in Nigeria. June 9 brought it home again. There could be merit in the pocket wars and persons that were the target of breaching the consensus for change on that day, but the consequence will no doubt be progress deferred. The big losers, the people, the small mechanic who needs electric power for a job to earn the next meal, the farmer who remains in subsistence because poor infrastructure locks him out while public officials live like Lords off a wobbly state, to the truth and prescription the citizen typically go away forlorn for they swallow the lies of politics as usual. The only solution for me is people power. The people must say to a political class riding roughshod on their well-being: Enough is enough. People power must come to save the people recovering from the euphoria of a promise of change that seems deferred again. What was the purpose of the vote for change? The purpose is an elite that for one generation failed a people and denied them the progress they deserve and desire, should change their way and bring progress to the greatest number of people. The patience had worn thin. Now, it is the people who must now take back their country anyway they see fit. They cannot watch as Singapore escapes Third World status, South Korea becomes one of the most knowledge-driven high income societies on earth and Brazil goes from potential to a top 10 economy in the world. These countries found a patriotic elite at some point that sacrificed for progress. Since Nigeria has been repeatedly denied such by its elite, the people may have no choice but to rise up and save themselves. There were enough blame for June 9 to go around, from the APC hierarchy whose complicit role was put forward in the advert I referred to in the Daily Trust by some concerned APC members, to the PDP leadership whose business, no doubt, is to make the party in government uncomfortable but which must know that in decent societies a government must be allowed to settle in and not for legislators to collaborate with those across the Isle in ways that can be disruptive. Fortunately, it’s never too late to begin again. by Professor Pat Utomi http://nigeriacamera.net/these-people-have-hijacked-our-change-again/

Shoe making is one of the trades you hardly find women engaged in. Meanwhile, Mrs Bukky Nosirudeen proves to be an exemption. She abandoned the university for the shoe making business in 1990. She speaks on what it takes for a woman to be in a business generally believed to be for men alongside her counterpart, Mr Tony Okere. Mrs Nosirudeen speaks first. How do you feel in a man’s world? It is a challenge to be in the shoe-making industry which is rather dominated by men. I see it as a great opportunity and a challenge, and I believe I can achieve success, I’m happily coping with what men can do. I have the zeal to compete with my male colleagues and excel. What is responsible for lack of artisans? Youths of nowadays don’t have the patience to learn work, but they want quick money. There are some of them who may consent to be trained but you must pay them well on daily basis. There is another category of unemployed youths who desire to earn fabulous amount without any reasonable justification in terms of labour and productivity. That is why for those us in this footwear business we need to train artisans who will be productive to create room for expansion and growth of the business. We want Government to assist us financially to enable us pay artisans in training. I trained for five years, in all aspects footwear production. I know the job, and I can afford to produce alone…which some of my colleagues who lack profound experience and expertise on the job cannot afford due to inadequate training. When it comes to the nitty-gritty of the job they are incompetent to cope. They need hands which they cannot afford because they cannot pay them. That is why the Government has a role to play to fill in the vacuum…. Why can’t you engage youths and train them in shoe-making business? Most of the youths don’t want to work but they want to have money and enjoy. Some want white-kola jobs where they will relax in an air-condition office and work without much stress. But the background of children is very important, and parents have vital role to play to make them responsible and what they desire them to be in life. If you have a 14-year-old daughter, you as a mother or father should be able to introduce her to something to do in life where the white-kola job is not available. To learn work or business is very important as an alternative instead of staying idle at home. These youths roaming the streets were not properly handled and channeled to a particular course by their parents. That is why they are not willing to avail themselves of the available opportunity to be trained. They rather see it as not a worthwhile venture but they don’t know that footwear business is not just a paying profession but life-sustaining work if you like to work hard. How can we curb the dearth of artisans in Nigeria? Artisans need training, not short term, but to be sufficiently trained and be a well grounded professionals who know all aspects of footwear production, and such persons will have craving…and the knack for the job. If such skilled manpower was not gotten on a platter of gold, it can stand the test of time and cannot be toyed with. They cannot afford to abandon what they invested so much in (time and resources), and they can reap the benefits of the job one of which is sustainability in life and other prospects. This piece is particularly meant for people renewing (DL expired) or getting a re-issue (DL missing) of their driving licence. For fresh applicants you just might have to bow to the Nigerian God. Most times in this country of ours things are never what they seem … no thanks to graft. And thus one can sadly often not prepare for a task based simply on laid down guide lines. I pen this thus to give a realistic view of what happens nowadays when one attempts to renew or get a re-Issue of his/her Nigerian Driving License. I do this drawing from my experiences getting a re-issue in 2012 at Osogbo, Osun State and a renewal in 2015 at Mabushi, FCT Abuja. Having good relational skills aside the only two prerequisites you need to attempt this task are 1) Open your head 2) open your computer. Yes, use your brain and familiarize yourself with website of the body in charge. Ensure you understand the guidelines (https://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org/), fulfil all and ask questions where you don’t (google any difficulties-nothing is new under the sun, ask friends who’ve done such before and ask officials if you know any). These things are actually much easier than we think; the process has been refined severally towards perfection that you really don’t need a middleman. Learn to do-it-yourself or you may end up being the frustrated Nigerian who goes abroad to find out there are no maids and that he’s condemned to use a map and his mobile phone to navigate his way around. I applied and got my passport on my own in 2008; for visas and college admission this rule still applies. The Nigerian Driving License costs only N6,350. But due to ignorance a lot of people end up paying almost twice the amount going through middlemen. And yet there is no significant difference in time spent processing. The only actual additional cost doing it yourself is that you may end up giving a little tip here or there (N200, N500) just to get the officials to DO THEIR JOB! Nigeria we hail thee! The process is so automated that “runs” is only possible before the capture stage. Once you’ve reached the capture stage you’re home and dry. *Re-issue 1] I had to get a police report or court affidavit showing my driving license was missing. I chose the courts. The payment for the stamping is suppose to be at the bank into government coffers but trust the corrupt clerk to claim bank confirmation takes weeks and to insist you pay directly to her. 2] Fill the form on the website and pay online or at the bank. Easy; I made payment using my bank debit card and printed out the necessary confirmation. 3] Get the Board of Internal Revenue to give you confirmatory receipt. Not so difficult, just had to wait a little for the staff in question to be on her seat back from whatever duty (official or not) she went for. 4] Get the VIO (Vehicle Inspection officer) to certify you fit for driving. Easy; the guy asked a few Highway Code questions and signed my form expecting me to shake body. I smiled, thanked him and went on my way. 5] Presented myself and necessary forms for capture. Given an appointment date and 30 days after that I picked up the original. Read More >>> http://nigeriacamera.net/how-to-obtain-a-nigerian-driving-licence-without-sweat/

Over the years, women were known more to be the sex that openly described what they are looking for in a partner. Apparently, times have changed and men are letting it be known that it is very hard to find a partner to settle down with. What exactly has changed? Why is that men are finding it hard to find a nice young lady? Women are changing the way they view relationships and have become more dominant over the years. Women are becoming more open about their sexual practices and are not afraid to be as adventurous as their male counterparts. Loyalty, is the most common issue that men are finding when looking for a female to settle down with. Women are starting to flip the switch and playing the game the way men have been doing for years. Women will say from time to time that men are drawn to women who show more skin so they have opted to take that avenue. Yet men are saying that women who show skin are nice to look at but they aren’t the women who they will leave the game for. Is it the fact that women are joining the game why men are finding it hard to find good women? Perhaps one of the reasons is that men are not looking for the right qualities. In many cases it seems as if women have put aside their standards for attention. Men however, often times define a good woman as one who is hardworking but still able to carry out her domestic duties. On the other hand, women are moving towards being dependent and not so dedicated to the domestic duties as they used to be. The problem then occurs because the mindsets have changed with the times. If we are to take a look at social media sites it can be very disgraceful at times to see the way our young ladies are behaving and I ask myself at times what will our future female leaders look like? Our young ladies need to realize that there is more to life than dressing up and getting likes to increase your popularity. Our young ladies are lacking substance and rarity. Everyone looks the same, dresses the same and talks the same. One and two of our young men are starting to realize that they have had enough of the women who are in search of vanity and are looking to bring back women of substance in style. http://nigeriacamera.net/where-have-all-the-good-women-gone/

The nearly four-year rift between Nollywood actresses, Ebube Nwagbo and Anita Joseph, may have ended. It was a public secret that the two actresses were at war over Limpopo singer, Kcee, of the then KC Presh group. The young man didn’t eventually take any of them to the altar but of course, it didn’t stop the ‘beef’ between the two actresses to linger up until recently. Saturday Beats gathered that Anita actually made the first reconciliatory moves by begging Ebube and asking that the both to bury the hatchet and move on. However, in a telephone chat with Saturday Beats, Anita insisted she was never at ‘war’ with Ebube, claiming it was a figment of some people’s imagination. “I couldn’t have gone to ‘beg’ Ebube for any form of forgiveness. How? Where? The truth is that we don’t have any issue. She may not have been my close friend but she is not my enemy either. It was just people that brought up the issue of us having a fight; it never happened. http://nigeriacamera.net/i-didnt-beg-ebube-for-forgiveness-anita-joseph/

Apparently they called it quits back in 2007, about two years after they relocated to Lagos.Despite Peter and Paul’s penchant for fasting and prayers, they have not been going to church for close to a decade, but they insisted the action has not affected their close relationship with God, and is also not a result of arrogance. According to a report, the brothers did try their hands on a couple of churches in their various areas of residence but later put an end to it. ''Each time we attend, other worshipers would not listen to the Pastor’s sermon again. All eyes will just be on us. Instead of praying, some people will even decide to be starring at us. We were not comfortable with that and thought we were distracting a lot of people from serving their God, so we said to ourselves that we should stop going. All men are equal before God, so we don’t encourage people to abandon their primary purpose of being in church because of us.” http://nigeriacamera.net/peter-and-paul-okoye-tell-why-they-have-not-been-to-church-since-2007/

The tragedy that hit the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday was pretty predictable, only that it happened on us much earlier than I expected. I understand that partisans would consider classifying Tuesday’s happenstance as tragic outrageous, but if such persons tarry and get a bit more reflective, they would recall that the Peoples Democratic Party was deprived of just half of what the APC lost earlier this week when AminuTambuwal emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representatives on June 4, 2011. But that marginal loss was enough to signal the beginning of the end of the party’s long reign. How then are we able to predict what could happen when a ruling party does not have the confidence of leaders of the two chambers of the national assembly from the very outset? I think it is tragic, especially for a party which bore so much promise. But the APC had it coming. Hinging his decision not to interfere in the selection of the leaders of the National Assembly on the change mantra on which he was elected, President Muhammadu Buhari had stated in clear terms that he was ready to work with whoever emerges from the two chambers. But events have shown that Buhari was alone in the contemplation that change should indeed transform from a mere election slogan into an action word starting with the party. Some stalwarts of the party apparently calling the tunes for members of the National Working Committee insisted that two people, namely Senator Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila, must emerge as the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives respectively regardless of the feelings of other party members who were interested in the offices. Mock elections that they called went on in spite of the boycott of Senator Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara and their supporters with the desired candidates of the powers that be declared elected. From here, a couple of discomforting things came up about the APC. The first is that a party which came to Nigerians with promises for change betrayed the people by going about the selection of candidates for national offices with such a draconian flavour. While it is okay that a party may want to resolve the multiplicity of aspirations for offices among its members, it is counterproductive for party leaders to maintain that only people of their choice would make it to the offices, in spite of the interests of other eminently qualified people. In the aftermath of the emergence of Saraki and Dogara as Senate President and Speaker House of Representatives respectively, I have heard murmurings of over ambition from shocking quarters including the spokesperson for the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed. But I wonder whether there is really anything so called amongst politicians. It is legitimate for anyone to seek to attain any office that they desire. If the party on whose platform such a person has any contrary idea, it behoves the party to either present a compromise, compelling enough for the aspirant to reconsider or go defeat him in a free and fair contest. If both parties are unable to reach a compromise, it is within the right of such a candidate to pursue his dream. This is more so when Saraki and Dogara only asked for open internal elections instead of the ones they thought were skewed in favour of candidates of some leaders of the party. In any case, wouldn’t the desire of members of the NWC and their sponsors to decide who occupies these positions also amount to over ambition if we were to employ the same standards? Another point suggesting that Saraki and Dogara would have good company if the over-ambitious tag should stick is that in spite of the enormous capital that the duo and others brought to the APC when they left the PDP in 2014, the party, by insisting that none of them was good enough to take the numbers three and four positions in the land, bares its disrespect for justice, fairness and equity. This is in spite of the realisation that no politician makes such sacrifices for the love of God. All politicians make moves which would ultimately further their career and these veterans know this but chose to be self-centred. http://nigeriacamera.net/how-the-apc-shot-itself-in-the-foot/ |
Details have emerged on how former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the five governors who in late 2013 defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) worked against the emergence of Senator Ahmad Lawan as Senate President. Information gathered that Atiku and the five governors were uncomfortable with the rising touted political wizadry of APC national leader, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and decided to “cut him to size.” Two of the former governors – Rabi’u Musa Kwakwanso and Aliyu Wammako (Kano and Sokoto States) were recently elected into the Senate. Kwara State Governor, Ahmed Abdulfatah, is the political protégé of the new Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki. They reportedly used their influence to stop Lawan believed to be Tinubu’s candidate. Information gathered that Wammako had also used his successor, the new governor of Sokoto State, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, to reach out to returning House members to support Hon. Yakubu Dogara in emerging the House of Representatives Speaker. The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has asked his predecessor, Chief Timipre Sylva, to drop his ambition of returning to the Government House in 2016, saying the people of Bayelsa State are wiser. Dickson told the former governor, who is also the leader of the All Progressives Congress in the state, that he could not be governor of Bayelsa State again. He reminded him that his era was the darkest days in the history of the state. Sylva was stopped from contesting for the second term in office in 2011 by the Peoples Democratic Party, allegedly due to pressure from former President Goodluck Jonathan. Sylva, in an interview in Yenagoa last Friday, did not state categorically whether he would run or not for the governorship election that is expected to take place at the end of the year. Sylva, who said the PDP “is dead in Bayelsa” and that the APC would capture the state, however, stressed that his decision to run or not was dependent on his party. During the interview, he had accused Dickson of ruling the state by fear and intimidation. Sylva had said, “Governor Seriake Dickson is ruling the state by fear and intimidation. And when you rule your people by intimidating, then the loyalty is liable to break under any form of stress. “Once you rule a people by fear and not love, it will break. The time for that loyalty to break is now.” But Dickson, in a statement on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, said Sylva’s remarks epitomised those of a man who had lost focus and not in touch with realities on ground. http://nigeriacamera.net/dickson-to-sylva-you-cant-rule-bayelsa-people-again/

The General Superintendent of the Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi has assured Nigerians that President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo will bring about the change they promised Nigerians during their campaigns. Kumuyi, who spoke with journalists at Kaduna Airport weekend after presiding over a revival crusade, said he hinged his optimism on the two men’s past achievements. He said: “With the past records of the President as well as the Vice President, I believe they meant what they said during the campaigns and I want to say they will really focus on the drive to bring the change they actually spoke about and I believe we will see change. ”The emergence of Buhari as President was ordained by God and l urge the President to rule with the fear of God.” Also commenting on how the church in Nigeria can help in combating the endemic corruption, the clergy man noted that corruption is a sin against God and urged religious leaders to teach their members to live a righteous and godly life.According to him, “Anyone in position of government is there by the ordination of God, and so should rule with the fear of God. We should look at whatever mistakes the past government made and see how to sincerely correct those mistakes and not only to dwell on the mistakes but move us forward so that we can have a better country for a new generation of Nigerians.” http://nigeriacamera.net/buharill-deliver-on-campaign-promises-kumuyi/

President of the Yoruba Council of Elders and former Military Governor of the old Western State, Maj.-Gen. Adeyinka Adebayo (retd.), in this interview with TOBI AWORINDE, talks about the war against Boko Haram and other issues You were the Aide-de-Camp to the late Governor General of Nigeria, Sir James Robertson, in 1957. As the first Nigerian to attain such a position, how would you describe the experience? Being the ADC to Robertson was a very good experience. I consider it a great privilege because no Nigerian did it before me. It was a British officer that occupied that position before me. But when the governor general decided to have a Nigerian as ADC, I was lucky to be noticed as a senior Nigerian Army officer in Lagos then. Because of his relationship with our British leaders in the Army, he appointed me. But he didn’t just appoint me like that. We were meeting with the Army officers, British and Nigerian, every Sunday in a social gathering. That was how he got to know me. He got used to me and I got used to him. When the question of appointment came, he decided that he would like to have me. That was how I became the first Nigerian Army officer to be ADC to the British governor general of the country then. It is a good thing that a Nigerian became an aide-de-camp to a British governor general. I got used to him and vice versa. In fact, my first son, Niyi, was born then and he (Robertson) became my son’s godfather during the period. You have a number of pioneer achievements that set you apart from your peers. How often do you get requests from the Federal Government to perform advisory roles? I would say every time and any time. When people know I’m around, they get in touch with me. Either I go to them or they come to me and we discuss generally about the past, the present and what we think of the future. Up till now, it is still going on. I’m used to it. Since the emergence of Boko Haram, has the Federal Government sought your help in trying to tackle insecurity? In 1736 Anton Wilhelm Amo was the first African to teach in a German University, the University of Halle. He was from the Gold Coast, present-day Ghana. In the next days, another German-speaking university is going to write an important page of African history in Europe. The University of Vienna is the oldest university in the German-speaking world. Founded in 1365, the university is celebrating its the 650th anniversary this year. It is one of the largest universities in Europe and also one of the most renowned, especially in the Humanities. The university is associated with 15 Nobel Prize winners. This is the environment in which another African „from the Ghana region of the Republic of Africa“, as he likes to say, is going to enter into history. Adams Bodomo is the Chair professor of African languages and literatures. He is not only the first black person in this position but also the first black scholar in the entire university of Vienna and also the German-speaking- world to hold such a post. His inaugural lecture will be delivered on the 10th of June. The universities in the German-speaking countries would have to explain to themselves and the world how it comes about that they have had no black persons at such a level. Could the prevailing racism be an explanation? After all, these universities have had over the decades a considerable number of African scholars who have distinguished themselves in their studies and attained the highest grades possible. Cameroonian Journalist simon INOU met Professor Bodomo for an exclusive interview before his lecture. Professor Bodomo, you arrived in Austria in 2013. After 2 years in Vienna, can you say that you are already a Viennese? How do you determine who is a Viennese? It is clear I love this city and if I would describe this city in two words I would say it is a complete city in terms of living, jobs, life, interactions… Although there is a relative small African community… Yes, but I think it is a very vibrant community. And my favourite spot is the PROSI shopping mall where Africans buy African foodstuff etc… Next week you are going to hold your inaugural lecture with the title „Exploring global interdisciplinary research trends in the humanities“ What are you going to tell the diverse Austrian and international public? It is important for me to really acknowledge the efforts of the University of Vienna and Austria as a whole to promote African studies in Austria. I will say that not only African languages but also African cultures are a very important part of the humanities and beyond. And we can speak about the interconnectivity of languages. My message will be, not to isolate but to see how interconnected our disciplines are and how to see the humanities as an interdisciplinary field if we would like to understand our world today. You are the very first black scholar from an African country appointed as a chair of a faculty at the university of Vienna after 650 years of its existence. What does this symbol mean to you? At least nine persons have been killed while many were severely injured as the clashes between two cult groups resurfaced in Ijebu Ode township in Ijebu Ode local government area of Ogun state. It was gathered that the two cult groups that have been terrorising the peaceful town of Ijebu Ode are the Aiye and the Eiye groups. The crisis began last Tuesday after the killing of a member of the Aiye group, who is a student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnics, MAPOLY, Ojere in Abeokuta was in Ijebu Ode to visit his sister who got married last Saturday to one Sanwo, who was identified as a former leader of the group. The boy, who is known as Kole was murdered at Paka base around Aiyegun junction in Ijebu Ode last week Tuesday. The development triggered his colleagues to begin to unleash terror on the Eiye cult group. The following day, Wednesday, last week, a member of Eiye group identified as Saheed, who works at the sawmill in Ejirin road, Ijebu Ode as a loader was killed at Olisa street in Ijebu Ode. Similarly, two people were killed on Thursday, throwing the town into palpable fear as sporadic gunshot rented the air for most part of the day. One person was killed around Molipa expressway while another, whose alias is “Ikotun Egbe” was also shot dead at Idogi street, around Italapo area. Both were believed to be members of Eiye cult group Our correspondent gathered from a relative of the deceased that “Ikotun Egbe” has been out of the town for two years and only arrived that Thursday afternoon, hoping to resume as a driver for truck loading company Continental Brewery, Imagbon-Ijebu. The matter got to the peak this week Tuesday when Ijebu Ode became a battle field for the cultists as markets and shops were hurriedly locked up when the boys started shooting sporadically and displaying dangerous weapons while chasing themselves around the town. http://nigeriacamera.net/cult-clash-9-killed-in-one-week-in-ijebu-ode/

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has warned that another ‘Ojukwu’ will go to war if former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, whom it described as an illustrious Igbo son, is prosecuted as being clamoured by the Amnesty International. Amnesty International had on Wednesday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Netherlands to investigate some former and serving Nigerian service chiefs for war crimes. The crimes, according to AI were perpetrated during the fight against Boko Haram in the North-East between March 2011 and 2014. It said in a comprehensive report, entitled, “Stars on their shoulders, blood on their hands: War crimes committed by the Nigerian military,” that no fewer than 8,000 persons were “murdered, starved, suffocated and tortured to death “in the North-East during the period. AI in the report said that it had “compelling evidence” for the investigation of the former and serving Service Chiefs as well as “mid-level and senior-level military commanders.” But in a swift response, National President of Ohanaeze Youth Council, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro , described the report and AI’s call for Ihejirika’s trial as “utter rubbish”. He accused some Northern elements of trying to use the international body to revenge on Southern military top brass, who staked their lives in defense of the territorial integrity of Nigeria. Isiguzoro said “the last insult Ndigbo can take from those who think they are the owners of Nigeria is to allow them touch Gen. Ihejirika, who served his father land meritoriously”. He said “what Ihejirika and other military personnel who staked their lives fighting Boko Haram deserve is commendation and not politically- motivated prosecution”. His words: “Where was amnesty international when Boko Haram fighters were annihilating Christians in Northern Nigeria? Where was Amnesty International when Boko Haram was throwing bombs inside churches, mosques, markets, motor parks, etc and killing innocent Nigerians? What efforts have amnesty international made to bring sponsors of Boko Haram to book? Or will they claim they did not hear when some people threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable should ex- President Goodluck Jonathan win the 2011 presidential election”. Ohanaeze accused Amnesty International of “bias, hypocrisy and playing double standards”, and warned President Buhari to disregard its report “if he wants to lead a united Nigeria”. “Buhari should choose between leading a united Nigeria and supervising the fragmentation of Nigeria”, Ohanaeze fumed. Ohanaeze further said: “They killed Igbo first General, Aguiyi Ironsi and nothing happened but this time around any attempt to touch another Igbo General will be vigorously resisted with our last drop of blood. “Why did Amnesty International close its eyes and seal its lips when youth corps members from the South were being killed in the North after the 2011 presidential election result was announced? Why did amnesty international not call for the prosecution of those who supervised the genocide against Ndigbo before, during and after the civil war?” Ohanaeze said apart from over 1 million Igbo killed during the war, Boko Haram and religious clashes had claimed over 200, 000 Igbos resident in the North with property worth over N2 trillion destroyed. “Why is Amnesty International turning a blind eye to the systematic genocide against Igbos in the North and the gradual annihilation of Middle Belt communities by Fulani cattle rearers? “That power has returned to the North does not mean that other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria will become slaves. Nobody should use amnesty international to intimidate any body unless they have agreed that we are tired of this forced union called Nigeria”, he said. He further said: “We cannot become beggars because Jonathan lost election, and we have no regrets making our choices in the last election. South East and South South are integral parts of Nigeria and cannot be treated as slaves”. The Ohanaeze leader also warned General Theophilus Danjuma (retd.), and noble laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka against their “serial anti-Igbo comments”, saying that “we have been carefully studying these unwarranted attacks and will take a position very soon”. Ohanaeze “said no amount of jealously can stop Ndigbo from succeeding even in deserts because of our Jewish gene which our enemies cannot suppress”. http://nigeriacamera.net/another-ojukwu-will-go-to-war-if-you-touch-ihejirika-ohanaeze-warns/

The BBC journalist who announced to the world that the Queen was dead, ‘just made a mistake’, her family has claimed. Ahmen Khawaja published a ‘breaking news’ alert about the Queen yesterday morning, whilst the BBC was rehearsing what it would do when a senior member of the royal family dies. Her announcement – first that the Queen had been hospitalized, then that she had died – sparked a global media frenzy as broadcasters and newspapers around the world followed the story. The Queen was, in fact, still very much alive and in good health. She was pictured all smiles this morning as she met members of the Women’s Institute and cut their Centenary Celebration Cake. The incident has strained the BBC’s relationship with Buckingham Palace and put a chink in the BBC’s global reputation. But today, a man claiming to be her brother insisted that Miss Khawaja ‘just made a mistake’. He made the comments at their family’s luxury apartment in Knightsbridge, a short walk from Harrods and overlooking Hyde Park. The man also told the Evening Standard that Miss Khawaja wants to remain in the job she loves, despite facing disciplinary action over the error, and her apparent attempt to brush it off as a ‘prank’. Miss Khawaja, 31, works at the BBC’s London headquarters, but was not involved in rehearsal for the royal obituary, or even supposed to be in the room. BBC sources believe she got wind of the run-through and took it seriously. However, that does not tally with her own version of events. The BBC Urdu producer tried to explain the tweets away as a joke by someone who had accessed her Twitter account on her mobile. An investigation is ongoing, and Miss Khawaja is likely to face a disciplinary panel. She could lose her job at BBC Urdu, where she is the producer of a current affairs programme – a job which relies on good news judgement. Today, BBC news staff questioned how one of the organisation’s producers could have made such a mistake in the first place. ‘It would have been fairly obvious [that it was rehearsal], or it should have been fairly obvious, at least,’ a source said. According to an email sent by Jonathan Munro, head of newsgathering, the BBC had drawn down the blinds on the newsroom whilst it went through the rehearsal, and cancelled all BBC tours. However, a tweet from Miss Khawaja’s account said: ‘BREAKING: Queen Elizabeth is being treated at King Edward 7th Hospital in London. Statement due shortly: @BBCWorld.’ Moments later, another tweet said: ‘“Queen Elizabrth [sic] has died”: @BBCWorld.’ By sheer coincidence, the Queen was in hospital at the time having a routine check-up, but Buckingham Palace confirmed that she is in good health. Miss Khawaja quickly deleted the offensive tweet, but it had already sparked headlines around the world. American television network CNN, India’s Hindustan Times, and Bild, the respected German newspaper, all picked up the story, and were forced to backtrack when they realised the tweet had been sent by mistake. But why is the death of the Queen needing to be rehearsed. Is death imminent and knocking at her door?Is she suffering from an incurable illness? all this are questions knowledgeable people need to ask the BBC officials or is there more truth in the woman story than they are making the world to believe http://nigeriacamera.net/alert-bbc-journalist-caught-rehearsing-queen-elizabeth-obituary-stay-tune-for-real-annoucement/
