RomanceOoni Of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi To Marry New Wife, Meet Ronke Ademiluyi by businessline(op): 10:12am On Feb 22, 2016
The Ooni of Ife is about to make a big decision that is likely to affect his promise to his ONE & ONLY wife, Adebisi Adebukola.Sources in the know claim that the King gave Bukola his words a long time ago but sadly, she couldn’t conceive. Her condition reportedly forced the king into the hands of Ronke Ademiluyi, an Ife-born fashionista.

Though, those close to the new Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, have come out to deny, in its entirety, the rumour that Ooni has a new wife. They claimed Kabiyesi has only one wife Olori Adebisi Adebukola, which is the mother of his only daughter. One Princess Ronke Ademiluyi was mentioned as the new wife. We however gathered that due to Kabiyesi’s busy schedule, there is a woman behind the running of things as far as his businesses are concerned but happens not to be Olori Bukky.

It was also revealed that Olori Bukky lives in Ibadan and not Ile-Ife. Meanwhile, another source hinted that though Olori Bukky seems not to be the official Olori, but decided to be operating in that capacity.

How Olori Adebukola Pushed Ooni Of Ife Into Ronke Olumiluyi’s Arms

While Oba Ogunwusi’s alleged decision to take Ronke as his Queen may seem a legitimate step in full exercise of his right to marry at will as an African monarch, it also reveals among other things, that things are not so smooth between him and his incumbent queen, Olori Adebisi Adebukola.

It would be recalled that it took the new royal family quite a while to reveal the identity of the queen of the 51st Ooni of Ile Ife. Investigations revealed that, Olori Adebukola, had to seize her destiny in her hands and make a daring decision to reveal her own identity when it became glaring to her that her husband, Oba Ogunwusi was reluctant to identify her as his Queen-bride.

Adebukola allegedly incited the ire of her husband by alienating his lovechild from a previous romance, Adeola. Oba Ogunwusi allegedly had Adeola at the age of 19, through his first love. Now 21, Princess Adeola, a University College London (UCL) Masters degree student, is currently navigating the folds of royalty and filial love to reignite an enduring spark with her monarch father.

Adeola Aanuoluwapo OgunwusiOoni of Ife’s daughter & wife, Bukola

But Adebukola feels threatened by her husband’s relationship with his love child, according to very close sources to the family.

Ooni Ogunwusi knew there was no love lost between his wife and his lovechild and this sad reality, according to a very close source to the king, deeply hurt him. He felt it wouldn’t be too ambitious of him to expect that Adebukola, his only wife, loved and appreciated his lovechild, Adeola, since she is every bit, a part of him but that would never be possible with Adebukola.

Further intrigues at the home front urged the king to seek fulfillment and love in the arms of another woman, Ronke to be precise.

CrimeNigerian Sex Worker Die In Aberdeen, left Son.pls Check Her Photo If You Know Her by businessline(op): 8:29am On Feb 18, 2016
JESSICA McGraa was found dead on Friday and it has emerged she was on a working trip to Scotland from her home in London where she left her son.A MAN is due in court today over the death of a sex worker in Aberdeen as her troubled lifestyle was laid bare.

Jessica McGraa was found dead at a flat in the city’s Union Terrace on Friday.

It emerged today that the 36-year-old left her young son at her home in London to sell sex in the city on a two-day trip.

A close friend told the Scottish Sun: “I thought she was a dancer in clubs – I had no idea what was really going on. But it doesn’t change my opinion of her.

“Jessica was an amazing woman and if that’s how she chose to make a living then that was her choice.”

The mum charged up to £220-an-hour as she offered punters the “ultimate girlfriend experience” in cities across the UK.

Nigeria-born Jessica also used aliases including ‘Ebony Bianca’ and ‘Kelly West’ on escorts sites such as Adult Work.

She described herself as “classic, stylish, naughty, Hot, sexy” and took bookings from men, women and couples.

Topless photos on her profile page had her face blurred out.

She wrote: “My face is covered to protrect myself as I’m ultra discreet.

“I have a regular job and a private life. Do be polite when you call.”

Her site also stated she made stops in Dundee, Edinburgh and Inverness.

Her body was found two days after she last logged on to Adult Work. Her page stated she was “currently on tour” in Aberdeen for two days.

On the flip side, Jessica’s own social media sites showed that she was a devoted mum describing her son as “the love of my life”.

And in one 2014 post, she wrote: “None of us will die unfulfilled.

“We all shall make a formidable impact in this world.”

Last night, a relative in London said they were too upset to talk about her death.

She said: “We know what has happened. You need to speak to the police. It is still very difficult for us.”

A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection with Jessica’s death.

He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today.

CrimeLord Chosen Church Pastor Jailed For 30 Years In Tanzania For Drug Case by businessline(op): 9:12am On Nov 13, 2015
Lord Chosen Church Pastor Chukwudi Okechukwu who preached in Tanzania handed 30-year jail sentence for smuggling of cocaine worth 15million dollar
A Nigerian pastor who preached in Tanzania under auspices of his Lord Chosen Church has been handed a 30-year jail sentence after being convicted of smuggling cocaine worth Sh3.1 billion.

Mr Chukwudi Okechukwu was jailed along with compatriot Paul Ikechukwu, South African Stan Hycent and Pakistani Shoaib Mohammad Ayazi over the same offence. High Court Judge Amir Mruma has also ordered the accused to pay Sh9 billion in fines.
Anti-narcotics police believe that the preacher is one of the top members of a drug syndicate operating in Tanzania, Nigeria and South Africa.

He and his three accomplices were hiding in a mansion in Dar es Salaam’s Kuduchi Mtongani suburbs when the police surrounded the house and arrested them.

Anti-narcotics police had received information about foreigners who were planning to smuggle into the country a huge quantity of cocaine and store it in a house in Kunduchi Mtongani.

A surveillance team was deployed to keep an eye on the mansion that the the preacher and his accomplices had rented.

Led by head of Anti-Drugs Unit (ADU) Godfrey Nzowa, the police knocked on the front gate in their bid to arrest the suspected drug dealers.

Their arrest was dramatic. Soon after the police knocked on the gate and introduced themselves, the four suspects started running around the house in apparent fear and panic.

There was a cat-and-mouse chase drama inside the compound as the police tried to get hold of one of the suspects as he was attempting to jump over the fence. Three suspects were arrested inside the house.

Pastor Okechukwu was the only suspect who managed to jump over the wall but was arrested after a dramatic chase by the police.

Upon searching the house, anti-drugs police seized 81 packets of drugs which were later confirmed by the chief government chemist to be cocaine hydrochloride.

Pastor Okechukwu first came to Tanzania in January 2011, two months before his arrest, on an evangelical mission under the umbrella of his Lord Chosen Church of Nigeria.

However, intelligence report show he had came to Tanzania some years back and had made a name for himself as a pastor at his Kinondoni Biafra church and won many followers.

Yesterday, Mr Nzowa described their jailing as “another great achievement” in Tanzania’s efforts to fight drug trafficking.

“Unlike a gun or pistol which kills people instantly, drugs are killing the young generation slowly. If we are not aggressive in fighting the illicit trade we may find ourselves losing the young generation,” he said, adding that drug business was a threat to national security especially when foreigners are left to operate in the country.

The jailing of the Nigerian pastor and his accomplices brought to three the number of high profile drug cases that have ben heard and determined by the High Court in the space of three months. Early in September, the same court sentenced to 20 years a young Tanzanian Fred William Chonde to 20 years in jail after it found him guilty of possessing 180kg worth Sh 5.2 billion and ordered him to pay a Sh 15 billion fine.

Again, last month the court sentenced businessman Kadiria Saidi Kimaro who attempted to smuggle 91 heroin capsules that he had swallowed, through Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA), to 20 years in jail. He was also ordered to pay Sh122 million in fine.

The speed with which the Judiciary hears and determined the drug cases has renewed hopes by anti-drugs campaigners who had accused courts of mishandling drug cases. There has been a concern that the way court handled drug trafficking cases might make it easy for the covicts to later secure freedom or bail in what could be viewed as disregard of the law.

Corruption and influence peddling by highly placed individuals have been cited as one factor that frustrates the war against traffickers.

However, the judiciary has repeatedly defended itself over the accusations, saying shoddy police investigations and poor prosecution was highly to blame for the situation.

SportsSwansea City Vs Arsenal Kick Off 2:00 by businessline(op): 2:45pm On Oct 31, 2015
Arsene Wenger’s men have not tasted victory in their last three league meetings with the Swans and are without several key men for the trip to the Liberty Stadium

Swansea City manager Garry Monk believes his side can approach their Premier League clash with an injury-hit Arsenal with confidence after bringing a dismal run of form to an end last weekend.
Monk’s men welcome second-placed Arsenal to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday having come from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 last time out.

Prior to that victory at Villa Park, Swansea had gone six-straight games in all competitions without a win, with Monk reportedly under pressure as a result of that streak.

But now the Welsh club have the chance to build on the defeat of Villa against an Arsenal team winless in their last three league meetings against Swansea.

Arsenal, who are level on points with leaders Manchester City, saw hopes of ending their disappointing run versus Swansea dented by injuries to Theo Walcott (calf) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (hamstring) in Tuesday’s 3-0 League Cup loss to Sheffield Wednesday.

That duo will be out until after the next international break in November, according to manager Arsene Wenger, and they join a host of players on the sidelines.

Danny Welbeck (knee), Jack Wilshere (ankle), Aaron Ramsey (hamstring) and goalkeeper David Ospina (shoulder) are all out, along with Tomas Rosicky (knee), and Mikel Arteta (ankle).

Wenger is now left with limited options on the right flank, with the Frenchman left to choose between Joel Campbell and Alex Iwobi, although Santi Cazorla could be moved from central midfield.

CelebritiesDon’t Have Sex For Fun Of It, Eva Alordiah Advises Ladies by businessline(op): 10:35am On Oct 31, 2015
Eva Alordiah’s album was scheduled to be released on Thursday, 1st of October 2015. Many of her fans were disappointed when that day came and it didn’t happen.

While she’s keeping her fans waiting for the promised album that seems to be taking her forever she’s busy doing other thing which seems to be giving her some kicks – dishing out relationship tips on her blog! In one of her recent post she advises ladies not to have sex with someone who isn’t committed to them
“From my heart wrenching, deprecating experiences, I can give you a hundred reasons why you shouldn’t even have sex with someone who isn’t committed to you in the first place but who am I to make that decision for you? Sometimes, I look back in time on a guy from past and I see how I could have benefited from just being his friend and making the most of a friend zone. Not every man who comes into your life has to end up in your heart and between your legs; just because he got in between your legs doesn’t mean he’s gonna stay in your life.

CultureCelebrating Halloween In African Devalue Our Culture And Religion by businessline(op): 10:22am On Oct 31, 2015
Why do Africans celebrate Halloween when our societies hate witches and even kill them? If Halloween had African roots, Africans today would call it “juju” or “muti” and would not celebrate it.

Halloween, as an event, seems to be growing legs in Africa, especially in Nigeria, my home country. I personally noticed a few years ago that within the expatriate community in Nigeria, people were beginning to celebrate this festival they had brought with them, to Nigeria! So much for when in Rome do as the Romans do! Initially I did not see Ghanaians knowing about or indeed participating in Halloween. Well, all that changed this year.
Halloween (an American export) is said to have originated from a pre-Christian festival known as Samhain. According to the website, Encyclopedia.com: “It is believed that the spirits of those who died during the previous 12 months were granted access into the other world during Samhain. Thus, spirits were said to be travelling on that evening.” Do the people now celebrating Halloween in Africa know this? I doubt it very much.

Over the years, the celebration of Halloween has changed from its original roots. Today many people who celebrate it have no idea what or why they are celebrating it. All they know is that, come 31 October, they dress up in ghoulish fashion and hit the streets, trick or treating for children and organising Halloween parties for adults.

And this is where I have a problem with the Africans who participate in these celebrations. If Halloween came to Ghana from Nigeria for example, Ghanaians would call it “juju”, evil, occult. Something never to be practised! Ghanaians would have said: “What? You want me, my husband, and my children to go out dressed as ghosts, witches, and Satan? You want us to go to our neighbours and ask for a “treat” for our children? If they don’t get a treat, we should advise our children to play a trick on our neighbours? Are you crazy?” Yes, this would most likely be the response if Halloween had African roots and was introduced to Ghana from Nigeria or some other African country. But because Halloween came from “the whites”, Nigerians and other Africans have embraced it, no questions asked! Poor Africa.

Most people claim to be Christians, and as such they look down on ghoulish behaviour. It is just not accepted or tolerated… that is unless the white man says it’s okay.

And so we now find it acceptable to dress up as a witch or a ghost or even a devil on 31 October. If that is the case, why don’t we release all the witches at Gambaga and honour them with a Halloween-type celebration? I have always believed that if Harry Potter was a black boy, he would be called an evil wizard. But being white makes him okay and acceptable.

It is so hypocritical the way we are killing our beliefs, traditions and cultures to buy into anything that comes from outside Africa. Even if that thing goes against everything we once believed in, it doesn’t matter as long as it comes from the white man’s land. Our people will not only accept it but will practise it even more fervently than the originators!

Just look at Christianity. Today, there are more churches across Africa than you will find in Europe. Churches in the UK are being turned into nightclubs and apartments. The only reason people seem to go to church in the UK these days is solely to get their children into good schools. And if you do find a flourishing church in the UK today, trust me, it is more likely to be filled with black people as opposed to white people or people of other races.

Back in Nigeria and elsewhere in Africa, people will tell you that when they perform a “traditional wedding” ceremony, that it is a mere “engagement”. Until they go through a Western-type church wedding, they don’t feel married.

What many people don’t realise is that Africa is seen as an untapped market for many businesses. With the celebration of Halloween comes the branded hats, costumes, and the rest of the paraphernalia you simply have to buy! From what I have observed, Halloween is not as big in the UK today as it used to be (not a single child came to my door this or last year). So Africa is the new place to take over this rubbish.

The same thing happened to Valentine’s Day, which was not known in many African countries until the late 1990s or so. Today, as Africans have taken to Valentine’s Day as ducks to water, the commercial aspects have grown exponentially. Africans are now spending so much money on Valentine’s Day like there is no tomorrow. And yet, they don’t even know the origins of Valentine’s Day. Our people. It is now time to wake up!

I wonder if any African has bothered to see any of the Halloween films available. These are not about happy people doing good things. Surely this is a clue to what Halloween has come to signify in these modern times? I am yet to see a Halloween costume of an angel.

Yes the world is a global village, and there is nothing wrong with culture sharing. Sadly, in Africa it is not sharing but rather destroying our culture, beliefs, traditions and way of life.

At this rate, the time will come when nothing in Africa will be authentic anymore. From fried rice to Halloween, it seems, if it is from a non-African country, we are more than happy to adopt it. But not everything coming from outside our continent is positive. And this is what Africans have to realise. But hey, these are just the reflections of an ordinary African woman.

CelebritiesWizkid Attacks Nigerian Bloggers On Twitter, Calls Them Dumb by businessline(op): 10:11am On Oct 31, 2015
Star Boy Entertainment singer, Wizkid is in the eye of the storm again. This time, some students of the American University of Nigeria in Adamawa, accused him of failing to honour an invitation to perform in their school, even after he had been paid the sum of N8.9m.

One of the students with the name @Mr Tawiti went on Twitter to attack Wizkid in a series of tweets. He accused Wizzy of failing to show up at their school, after he had allegedly been paid N7m as artiste’s charge, N1.2m for Logistics, as well as feeding and accommodation for ten people who were supposed to come with the ‘Pakurumo’ singer.
@Mr Tawiti also stated that Olamide had initially turned down their offer, claiming that he can’t afford to come to the North for just N4m. However, Wizkid, in his characteristic manner, did not take it lying low, as he also took to his Twitter handle with guns blazing towards bloggers. He wrote, ‘Even when you’re trying to be lowkey and keep it cool, they still try to spread false rumours. I love my fans in the north. Love to you and yours…so anyone can get a Twitter account and tweet something crazy about you and the dumb ass bloggers will share the story without confirmation? I just wanna (sic) make music, perform to my amazing fans and live my life low key! No bad vibes!!’

It should be recalled that this isn’t the first time Wizkid will be having this type of issue with students. In 2013, some students of the University of Lagos had dragged him to the police on the allegation that they paid him for a show, but he refused to perform. Wizkid later stated that it was a case of mistaken identity as the person who the students communicated with about the show wasn’t a member of his team.

Meanwhile, efforts to contact Wizkid and his team proved abortive as at the time of filing this report, even as the student maintained that Wizkid was actually paid the said sum of N8.9m after long negotiations.

RomanceIf Your Guy Does These 16 Things, Congrats! You Found A Real Man by businessline(op): 1:23pm On Oct 28, 2015
If you find yourself constantly swiping left on Tinder, then you know what qualities you want in a guy. It can be hard, however, to tell if they act like a boy or a man. Don’t be fooled;YourTango has rounded up a list of all things that make up a true gentleman below.

In fact, I feel that every man and woman on the planet should be made to watch “Gone With The Wind” at least twice, if only to teach men how to be men and women how to separate them from the boys. And if you are dating in the here and now, you know where the boys are: on Tinder, on Match, on the street, making vulgar statements about what they’d like to do with you and where. They’re in your phone texting sexual innuendos before they know your last name and asking to “hang out” because they’re terrified of committing to the idea of a proper date.
Rhett Butler would not do any of this.

Rhett was a man in control of himself. He dressed and spoke well, loved better, and had a great sense of humor, sometimes of questionable taste. He was unafraid to speak his mind, stand his ground, fall wildly in love, and show his love (and fight for it, too). Now, before you remind me that I’m speaking about a fictional character, I’ll let you in on a little secret: I was raised by a man who lived this way and know a few men who live this way now, and make no mistake: they do wonderfully with women.

As a woman, there’s nothing better than being in the presence of a man who relishes in his masculinity in a way that doesn’t involve the obvious chest-pounding and cat-calling, but the confident reserve of a gentleman. Now, before you accuse me of hating men, let me be clear; I love more things about men than I can put into one article. This is not about finding female empowerment though man-bashing. Quite the opposite, actually. It’s a celebration of the grown up man’s man who knows how to treat a woman. What does this man look like, to me, at least? Well…

1. He is hygienic, but cleans his nails and trims his nose hairs outside of a nail salon. Think about it: Would Hemingway or Gladiator be getting his nails buffed? Methinks not.

2. He can balance both swag and sophistication and a career and a personal life without too many proverbial exclamation points (and certainly not multiple ones in a text message. No, no, no).

15. He takes as much pride in the way he treats women he’s with as he does his job and the way he looks.

16. He’s not the bad boy, a good boy, or a boy at all; he’s a man. A leading man, and he’s looking not for a good girl, but a great woman. One who shares all of the solid qualities that he brings to the table, and perhaps, can teach him something along the way. He’s willing to wait and work for this woman, to fight for her and will gladly hold out for her as long as he needs to. But when she comes along, he doesn’t sit on the fence; he’s smart enough to know when he’s gotten damned lucky. And when she finds him, she should be smart enough to know the same.

PoliticsFemale Students Of Kogi State University Caught In Sexual Act by businessline(op): 12:46pm On Oct 28, 2015
Kogi State University is in the news for unpleasant reasons again as lesbian records involving students of the university recently emerged on the campus. Some of the students involved are those of Economics and English Education departments.

The two popular students in one of the videos revealed how deep the culture of Lesbianism had infiltrated the female hostels in the school.Already, one of the students is considering leaving the school to avoid possible stigmatization as the videos had gone viral.A female student in the Department of Zoology who craved anonymity, told Vanguard that Lesbianism was becoming a big issue in the university.
She said young, fresh undergraduates were lured into the immoral club as many of them do not know what was in it before joining the lesbian ring.

“Kogi State University is fast becoming the comfort zone for lesbians. Many Jambites are lured into the ring because they don’t even know what it is all about.

“What they do now is to relocate off-campus in order to enjoy the privacy needed for their illicit and immoral act. Once in it, it is so difficult to renounce because lesbians share a lot of gifts to keep victims in it.

“The authorities of this school may need to take drastic steps to restore the moral integrity and discipline for which we were known,” she said.

When Vanguard got in contact with one of the lesbians, she said she was lured into Lesbianism in her first week on campus by a very wealthy 300 student.

She said she was not aware that their s*x escapades were recorded. “My attention was drawn to the video in circulation by one of my friends. When I watched it, I knew that was the end of my stay in this school.

“Many of my course mates already have the video, so it will be difficult for me to continue. I have brought shame to myself and my family,” she lamented.

Sources say investigations into the issue of Lesbianism among the students had commenced.

PoliticsAbacha Loot Is “too Big” To Handle – World Bank Confesses by businessline(op): 12:15pm On Oct 28, 2015
The greed of our leaders is on another level! Activists of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) are said to have contacted officials at the World Bank, demanding for information about the status of recovered funds looted by the late Nigerian Head of State, Sani Abacha, which is reportedly

over $11.3 billion.
Surprisingly, in response to the inquiry, World Bank representatives said:

“In response to your request, we would like to inform you that we are still considering your request and we will need additional time because the money involved is too huge for us to handle.”

According to Channels, the report further states that it typically takes 20 working days to respond to such requests, however; under special cases it could take much longer time.
World Bank has asked for more time to be able to supply information on the massive Abacha loot.

PoliticsOritsejafor’s False Prophecy Made Ex-president Contest 2015 Elections - Okotie by businessline(op): 6:28pm On Oct 26, 2015
‘Oritsejafor’s false prophecy made ex-President contest 2015 elections,’ Okotie says. Okotie said further that Jonathan contested because Oritsejafor had issued a false prophecy assuring the former president of victory in the 2015 polls.

The General Overseer of the Household of God Church, Reverend Chris Okotie has said that former President,Goodluck Jonathan would not have contested for a second term if he hadn’t been deceived by the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.
Okotie said further that Jonathan contested because Oritsejafor had issued a false prophecy assuring the former president of victory in the 2015 polls.

The controversial Reverend, who is also a former presidential aspirant, made the comments on Sunday, October 25, 2015 while delivering a sermon in his church in Lagos.

“Pastor Oritsejafor deceived Jonathan with a false prophecy from God that he (Jonathan) would win the election convincingly,” Okotie said according to Punch.

“The man (Jonathan) became convinced to contest after Oritsejafor had told him, using CAN’s name, that God had ordained him the winner of the 2015 presidential election,” he added.

“I told CAN and PFN that Jonathan was not of God; that whosoever would win would be one that had built a tabernacle in the presence of God. I told CAN and PFN that Jonathan did not belong to the House of David and that since he did not belong to the household, his winning would bring more sorrow to Nigeria,”Okotie said.

Okotie also said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the elections was an act of God.

Buhari defeated Jonathan in the March 28 elections becoming the first Nigerian candidate to unseat an incumbent president in democratic elections.

PoliticsDonald Trump: ''Africans Are Lazy Fools Only Good At Lovemaking And Stealing” by businessline(op): 12:31pm On Oct 26, 2015
“Some Africans are lazy fools only good at eating, lovemaking and Stealing” – Donald Trump

By Christine Mendoza

Once again, US business magnate Donald Trump has expressed his deep disgust for Africans by referring to them as lazy fools only good at eating, lovemaking and thuggery. Speaking in Indianapolis, Trump who is also the republican Presidential torch bearer reiterated his promise to deport Africans especially those of Kenyan origin including their son Barrack Obama.

“African Americans are very lazy. The best they can do is gallivanting around ghettoes, lamenting how they are discriminated. These are the people America doesn’t need. They are the enemies of progress. Look at African countries like Kenya for instance, those people are stealing from their own government and go to invest the money in foreign countries. From the government to opposition, they only qualify to be used as a case study whenever bad examples are required. How do you trust even those who have ran away to hide here at the United States hiding behind education? I hear they abuse me in their blogs but I don’t care because even the internet they are using is ours and we can decide to switch it off from this side. These are people who import everything including matchsticks. In my opinion, most of these African countries ought to be recolonized again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self governance” Explained Donald Trump bitterly as he illuminated how he plans to reconstruct America and restore its lost glory.

“I promise to make America great again by restoring our dignity that we have since lost through Obama. The more reason why I still believe that he, and his Kenyan brothers and sisters should be deported back to Kenya to make America safe”

Sources have indicated that Trump’s thrush did not augur well with the Carson Camp and they have since distanced themselves from Trump words.

HealthNew Drug Made From Banana Can Kill Viruses Including Hepatitis C And Flu by businessline(op): 7:31am On Oct 23, 2015
Scientists have made a ‘wonder drug’ out of bananas that can kill off a wide range of viruses – including hepatitis C, flu and AIDS.It is hoped the new medicine will become a vital ‘broad spectrum anti-viral’ that could protect humanity from some of the most vicious diseases.

The key ingredient is a protein found in bananas called banana lectin, or ‘BanLec’.
It was first discovered five years ago – and considered as a potential AIDS treatment.

But it caused nasty side effects that scientists have now overcome.

Now, scientists have created a new version of BanLec which can fight viruses in mice – but does not cause unwanted irritation and inflammation.

BanLec works by clinging to sugar molecules found on the surface of some of the world’s deadliest viruses.

Once the drug has locked on to the virus, it is rendered harmless – and can easily be disposed of by the body’s immune system.

In tests on mice, the new form of BanLec, called H84T, stopped them getting the flu – without the increased inflammation earlier versions had caused.

The new variation also worked in the laboratory – on tissue and blood samples against AIDS, hepatitis C and influenza.

The researchers believe the drug may even work on Ebola, as all of these viruses are covered in similar sugar molecules that BanLec clings to.

However they warn eating regular bananas will not have the same beneficial effect, as the ingredient is a modified version of the chemical found in the fruit.

Dr David Markovitz, professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan and co-author of the paper, published in the journal Cell, said: ‘What we’ve done is exciting because there is potential for BanLec to develop into a broad spectrum anti-viral agent – something that is not clinically available to physicians and patients right now.’

However several years of research still lie ahead before BanLec can be tested in humans.

Despite this, Dr Markovitz and his co-author, Dr Hashim Al-Hashimi, professor of biochemistry at Duke University, hope the team’s work can help address the lack of antiviral drugs that work well against many viruses – or against viruses that change rapidly, such as influenza.

‘Better flu treatments are desperately needed,’ said Dr Markovitz.

‘Tamiflu is only modestly effective, especially in critically ill patients, and influenza can develop resistance to it.

‘But we also hope that BanLec could become useful in situations such as emergency pandemic response, and military settings, where the precise cause of an infection is unknown but a viral cause is suspected.’

British scientists today hailed the development.

Professor Wendy Barclay, chair in influenza virology at Imperial College, London, called it a ‘a new strategy for combatting a wide range of viruses’ and ‘beautiful science’.

Dr Ben Neuman, a virologist at the University of Reading, said: ‘In this new study, the researchers changed the banana lectin just enough to stop the side effects, while keeping its virus-blocking properties intact.

And Jonathan Ball, professor of molecular virology at the University of Nottingham, added: ‘Each new virus outbreak is a timely reminder of our need for antivirals that can work against a range of viruses.

‘Lectins have that potential as they are able to bind to the sugars that are present on the surface of a range of viruses including HIV, influenza and Ebola, many of which have caused or have the potential to cause severe epidemics or even pandemics.’

The key question now, he stressed, was whether the drug will work in humans.

‘There are lots of hurdles that still need to be overcome before antiviral lectins find their way into clinic,’ he said.

‘For one thing, there’s a risk the immune system will recognise this as foreign and mount an immune response to it, potentially rendering it ineffective.

‘But even so, given recent events, generating antivirals that can work against a range of viruses is well worth pursuing.

PoliticsMeet The King With 100 Wives, Over 500 Children by businessline(op): 8:08pm On Oct 22, 2015
Abumbi II, the 11th fon, or king, of Bafut, Cameroon, has close to 100 wives. They weren’t all his to start. According to local tradition, when a fon dies, his successor inherits all his wives and then marries his own queens.

The queens have a great role to play in the fondom,” notes Prince Nickson, also of Bafut, noting that it is up to these women behind the man to shape him in his kingly role.
“Behind every successful man must be a very successful, staunch woman,” says Abumbi’s third wife, Queen Constance.

“Our tradition has it that when you are king, the elderly wives remain to hand down the tradition to the younger wives, and also to teach the king the tradition because the king had been a prince, not a king.”

Despite the fact that polygamy is legal in Cameroon, the data shows that there are far fewer polygamous marriages across the African continent. The practice is being challenged by changing values, the spread of the Christian faith, the growing appeal of the western way of life but also the rising costs of having large families. It is against this backdrop that Cameroon’s traditional rulers must walk the fine line between two often conflicting cultures.

“During colonialism other values came in, of governance, different from the traditional values we had and therefore there is this constant conflict between the traditional values and modern western values,” admits Fon Abumbi II, who has ruled Bafut, the largest fondom in the region, for 47 years.

“My role is to blend them, to find the way forward so my subjects can enjoy the fruits of development and modernity without destroying their culture. Without a culture, you are not a human being, you are an animal. And therefore the chieftaincy institution is the guarantor of our culture.”

Though polygamy is often met with criticism in the West, there are some who deem it a valuable tradition. After meeting with Fon Abumbi II, Soni Methu, presenter for CNN’s Inside Africa, noted that there was more to the practice than meets the eye:

“I understand that we might be quick to judge the lifestyle of the kings, but just like in the United Kingdom, African kingdoms and kings are bound to a rich culture and history. (Practices) like inheritance of all your father’s wives is nothing but a moral obligation.”

She also observed that many of these royals are highly accomplished. On meeting the queens of Fon Ndofua Zofia II of Babungo – one of Cameroon’s youngest traditional rulers –Methu said:

“All his young wives, forced on him by tradition, spoke fluent English in a French-speaking region and were great marketers.”

It is this seeming contradiction that makes life in the fondom fascinating and confusing. Are they stuck in the past or keeping pace with the present? Fon Zofoa III doesn’t think you have to choose. He may have “inherited” 72 wives and more than 500 children after his father’s death, but he considers himself a very modern king.

“To run a kingdom nowadays in this era, you must be educated because things are moving very fast. Like they used to say, education is light, ignorance is darkness.”

Crime10 Countries Who Have The Highest Murder Rates by businessline(op): 8:21am On Oct 22, 2015
Our world has been known to be quite dangerous at times. It would seem every single day we hear about someone being killed, whether it be within our area or somewhere on the other side of the world.

It is unfortunate, but the murder rate across the world is steadily rising. The ease of access certain people have to weapons, including firearms and blades, has become a widespread problem. Here are ten countries who currently boast the highest murder rates in the world.
Honduras, 90.4

Honduras is home to over 8.25 million people, but they also hold the record for highest murder rate of any country in the entire world. With an average of 90.4 murders per 100,000 people, that means almost every 1,000th person is killed in some fashion.

Venezuela, 53.7
Venezuela, located on the northern coast of South America, is known as the world’s largest oil exporter. What most people don’t know, however, is that only 19-percent of local citizens feel safe when they walk around at night. Over 50 people out of every 100,000 are killed each year, and this number is growing.

Belize, 44.7

Belize has a population of around 340,000 people, and is one of the least densely populated countries in all of Central America. Despite that fact, the country has a high homicide rate of around 45 murders for every 100,000 people. Belize City is where murders are most common.

El Salvador, 41.2
El Salvador, after being affected by a long-term, devastating civil war, is one Central American country no one wants to visit these days. Thanks to gang-related crime and juvenile delinquency, over 60-percent of all murders were committed by local gangs competing for territory and power. 41 people out of every 100,000 are killed.
Guatemala, 39.9
Guatemala has a population of over 16 million people, and is one of the most populous countries in all of Central America. They currently have an average of 100 murders every single month, and are ranked as the 5th highest homicide rate in the entire world.

Jamaica, 39.3
Jamaica, although it only occupies an area of 11,000 square kilomers, has become known for having one of the highest murder rates. Murders and violent crimes are most common within the capital city, Kingston.
Lesotho, 38
Lesotho, a tiny African country squished within South Africa, has an uncontrollable rate of homicide at the moment. Half of the country lives well below the poverty line, which is thought to be reason for their crime and annual murder rate.

Swaziland, 33.8
Surrounded by South Africa, Swaziland has a population of over 1 million people, and is one of the smallest countries in the area. Their homicide rate, however, is anything but small. The estimated life expectancy of people in the country is just 50-years old, thanks to murder and disease.
Saint Kitts and Nevis, 33.6
Many people may not have even heard of Saint Kitts and Nevis, the sovereign state located within the Americas, since it is the smallest in terms of area and population. There are only 50,000 people living in the country, but they have a murder rate of 33.6 for every 100,000 people. They are ranked 9th in the entire world for deaths in this manner.
South Africa, 31
South Africa, which is also known as “The Rainbow Nation,” has a population of 54 million. Unfortunately, the land has an intense rate of murders, assaults, rapes, and more violent crimes. 46 people are murdered every single day within the country, which is beyond astounding. Careful visiting this one.

US-based Chioma Amaryllis, a former PR coordinator for Radio Biafra alleged that Kanu is misleading gullible Igbos and collecting money from them to sustain his lavish lifestyle.
Hear her:

“I am Chioma Amaryllis I live in the USA but I am from Mbaise in Imo State, a proud Igbo woman. I had a relationship with Nnamdi Kanu as he presented himself to me in the US as a single man. I hope that the point I am trying to make about Nnamdi Kanu will take precedence. I am telling the truth about Nnamdi Kanu & Radio Biafra as I saw it and closely witnessed”

“It is easy enough to live in Malaysia, China, Japan, Indonesia and donate money to Radio Biafra”
“I bought and paid my ticket from the USA to Nigeria for Radio Biafra to see things for myself”
“I was donating my savings in the USA to Radio Biafra for defence & all forms of funds”

“As Nnamdi Kanu’s girlfriend I went to Nigeria myself I wanted to see what Biafra was about”
“It is not enough for Ndi Igbo’s to get excited by someone you hear on the radio, verify”

“I don’t want Igbo’s in diaspora to believe me, buy your ticket like I did and see Nnamdi’s lies. Go back home to Igbo Land and do your investigations, don’t be deceived”

“Money was being collected by Nnamdi Kanu, huge money from genuine people & misappropriated,” she said.

Nnamdi Kanu collected huge donations to build a cenotaph for Ojukwu but never did. A lot of donations to Biafra went down the drain & I have a right to speak out because I contributed.”

“When Nnamdi Kanu asked for $8 million to start in 2014, I took a step back knowing Ojukwu used his own money for Biafra. I am unhappy people are being tricked to donate money using Biafra as a cover.”

CelebritiesActress Martins Ojo: My Marriage Crashed because I Married The Wrong Man by businessline(op): 10:34am On Oct 20, 2015
“My marriage has crashed. Not many people know that I have children even though it is not written in the face. I didn’t just give birth by mistake; I was legally married and the union is blessed with 3 wonderful kids who are making me proud at all times.

I was married to their father, Adelana Afonja. We got to know each other when I was in my final year at the Federal College of Education, Oyo State, then I was a virgin and we were dating, he never believed that I was a virgin and in the process of trying to confirm that, he impregnated me and without wasting time, we formalized it by doing the legal thing which was the proper wedding.
We were married from 1996 to 2006. In the marriage, I noticed that we were not compatible; we were not good for ourselves because we always fought. If he says A, I will reply with B and that was all. We have both moved on with our lives separately since then. I thank God for the kids; they are doing well in their schools”.

PoliticsIt Is Dangerous Marrying One Wife As A Muslim, You Need Two & Above – Cleric by businessline(op): 7:14pm On Oct 19, 2015
Well known for his tough lectures, popular Islamic scholar and preacher, Sheik Muyideen Bello is at it again. Bello said a Muslim man will be doing himself more harm by marrying just one wife, but instead he will advise such a man to start with two.

He made this known in one of his lectures titled Legal Marriage.
“Allah said a man should marry any kind of woman he likes. As a man, if you want to marry a fair-complexioned or dark woman, marry her. Allah said we should start from 2 women. I know women will not like to hear this. If you have to marry, start with 2 women, that is what the Quran says. The Yorubas have a saying that a man with 1 woman isn’t a real man. For instance if you are
married to 1 wife and she over-salts your food, you have just 1 wife. You don’t have a choice than to eat the food or buy food outside.

“I have received so many messages from people that why should I encourage polygamy. I tell them, is it me encouraging polygamy? Allah said you should marry 2, 3, 4. Allah said if as a man you know you can’t take care of them, then marry 1. Then if you are a me&my wife kind of man, the implications are too many. As Muslims, 4 women is the maximum a man can have, have 2 living with you then if you have 2 houses outside, you put the other 2 there. The implications in marrying just 1 wife are too many.

I’m sure most of you have heard by now – that I recently bought a house…:-). Of course I had to bring it here and share my joy with you all…my amazing LIB family. God first and you guys second made it possible.

So, I bought a two-storey luxury house in the exclusive Banana Island area of Ikoyi…and to be honest, I still can’t believe it. It’s everything I prayed my house would be. That’s me standing in front of my house…:-). #ProudSelfMadeWoman…:-)
The house is on 3 floors consisting of 6 en-suite bedrooms, a master suite with a separate walk-in closet/dressing room and a massive bathroom suite, 2 living rooms, media room, cinema room, gym room, laundry room, a fully fitted kitchen, with a large pantry. Two room boys-quarters, a gatehouse, garden, swimming pool, waterfall wall, changing room, cabana, and amazing water-view. Absolutely my dream home. Dreams do come true, you know!
