pquaver: It is not mandatory.. English is used in context. And according to the constitution is used conjunctively meaning to bring 2 things together. 36 states of the federation and Fct Abuja mean the two brought together.. Examples abound : Bread and butter, rice and beans, taye and kehinde, peter and paul used to show 2 persons are together 1 in the cases of twins. So it shows the provision of the constitution applies to them together.. Let me kind of explain it you mathematically... The constitution says Fct all provisions will apply as if it is a state.. What this means in constitution is Nigeria states are from Abia to zamfara (36 states of the Federation) and Fct abuja.. Apples and oranges = apples together woth oranges, rice and beans =rice together with beans.. Taye and kehinde together as twins. 36 states and fct is 36 togetwith fct. Nigeria states = 36 states of the Federation and fct Let Nigeria states be x X = 36 states of federation and the fct
So the provision of the law in the constitution applies to X. 25% in 2/3 of X = spread.. Where X= 36 states and fct Note the aim of the constitution here is to achieve a spread and not that a candidate votes only from a particular region acquire their votes... Fct is North central.. So your compulsory fct requirement immediately nullifies the reason the constitution wanted a spread. That means if i get my spread in other states of the Federation say i win and get 25% 34 states of the Federation a candidate who does not make 25% in say 30 states and wins abuja like kwankwaso won kano abuja maybe he is from abuka and popular, he immediately renders such a spread null amd void, that is against the spirit of the constitution.. Let me make it clearer.. If you sell food and i ask you.. Madan please i need 10 plates of Rice and beans.. Will you give me 10 plates of rice mixed with beans or will you bring 10 plates of rice and 10 plates of beans..
Another example.. Please give peter and paul 500 naira.. Will you give a total of 500 naira that the both share or you bring out each 500 to make 1000 naira in both case you will do the formmer 10 plates of rice mixed with beans and 500 to peter and paul.. I dont know if you are tryto be mischievous or you natural ignorant of use of English... Seriously You did great with your robust explanation but sadly decided to end it with a condescending comment. Too bad |

Brendaniel: The good news for Obi and his supporters on this matter is that, APC and INEC did not add it to their petition before the window for petitions on elections was closed, what it means is that every petition that was not filed before the close of the window can not be entertained.
Now you see part of the reasons why Obi waited till the last day of the petition window to file his own, since APC did not know the content of his petition till the final day they did not know what to attack Obi with in their own petition.
So APC as it stands is mainly on defence, there is a time frame for election tribunal, so there must be time lines for proceedings, if not there might be endless petitions that will keep the tribunal on an endless cycle, you see why they had to make the petition have a window timeline.
So for now APC cannot file it again, the tribunal will not entertain it.... okay thanks for the insight. |

Ikea81: It's not about the time. It's the record. A thief who gets convicted and serves time, does change his criminal record for a 100years. Our constitution clearly doesn't bar a candidate from contesting if the criminal case has passed 10 years. Pls go check out that section 137 (1)e) of the Constitution. |

Go and read it again. if that happens, am sorry Tinubu will still win. He has more northern spread and Muslim Muslim ticket sentiment will favour him. |

Bola. A. Tinubu isn't Bola Ahmed Tinubu But the confirmation letter I just posted says "he" not "she". Are u saying he robbed the lady's identity off the school register? |

Pierocash: Shettima's candidacy is not a party affair. It is a violation of the electoral act and has nothing to do with party affair. If not, people can simply go pick forms for all elective offices at the same time, anyone wey enter ,na the person luck be that. Is that the kind of nation you want,a nation were guidelines and rules are violated ,and flouted by state actors and the court validates it? Thanks for the insights. Obi also had such issues or am I wrong?? Heard he joined LP after the party register must have been submitted. Don't you think it will affect him too? |

LucifersLight: Restricting me through bans to my moniker will change nothing. The first stage of my divination has being fulfilled. Biden must not keep celebrating. He must act fast and perform a major sacrifice to avert the great disappointment coming his way. Right now, as it stands in the greater realm and scheme of things, he won't sit on that exalted seat come January 2021. They ought to ban you for life. |
