Crime › Mum Of 14 Sold Her Daughters' Virginity by calddon(op): 5:35am On Oct 27, 2013
A mother of 14 tried to make ends meet, police
say, by pushing her daughters into "hell" and selling
their virginity for a couple of hundred dollars.
Margarita de Jesus Zapata Moreno, 45, was arrested
this week together with a 51-year-old contractor who
police believe impregnated one of the young
daughters.
She broke down in tears when she stood in front of
the cameras after being arrested in Bogota, the
Colombian capital. The Bogota Metropolitan Police say
Zapata sold the virginity of 12 daughters to much older
men seeking to have sex with young virgins.
Authorities also say the suspect would begin selling her
daughters to men as soon as the girls turned 12 years
old. She charged anywhere between 300,000 and
400,000 Colombian Pesos ($160 to $212) for a virgin.
But Zapata strongly denies the accusation. Colombian
authorities often show high-profile suspects to the
media shortly after arresting them. When Zapata was
standing in front of the cameras Wednesday, one of
the reporters shouted a question to her: "Did you
prostitute your daughters?" She answered: "No, my
darling."
Colombian police say they learned of this alleged case
of abuse because one of the alleged victims stepped
forward. Authorities say one of the suspect's
daughters forced into prostitution gave birth to a baby
boy when she was 14. She had refused her mother's
orders to have an abortion.
Colonel Carlos Melendez, a Bogota Metropolitan Police
spokesman, told CNN affiliate Caracol TV the young girl
described to investigators the "hell" in which she lived
when she was still a prepubescent girl, about being
forced to have sex with much older men in her home
and about a life of abuse and neglect.
"She was a minor and she still had the courage to
report the abuse and also to refuse to have an
abortion. That's when this investigation started, from
the threats of her own mother," Melendez said.
The investigation took more than a year to complete
because the only witness willing to testify, the 14-year-
old girl, now 16, disappeared, apparently because she
feared her mother would kill her for going to the
police.
After she reappeared, she also told authorities about a
man who had sex with her and got her pregnant.
Police arrested a 51-year-old man who investigators
say fathered the son of the girl who was 14 years old
when the baby was born. The suspect declined to
comment at Wednesday's police presentation.
Police are asking the rest of the daughters to provide
more information about this case. "Those who are
watching or listening to us, we would like to ask them
to come to the police so that they give us information
about transpired in this case," Melendez said.
Police investigators say Zapata also forced her older
daughters to drink alcohol and do drugs. Some ended
up working as prostitutes and are missing, police said.
Police say those two arrests are only the beginning.
Investigators say they will also build cases against the
men who were having sex with these minors.
According to authorities, only two of Margarita de Jesus
Zapata Moreno's 14 children were not forced into
prostitution. They were the two youngest -- an 11-
year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl -- and they have
been placed in the custody of a Colombian government
child protection agency.

Car Talk › $450,000 Lamborghini Faces Crusher After Cops Seize Supercar by calddon(op): 7:57am On Aug 12, 2013
A luxury sports car seized in London for
allegedly having no insurance could end up in
the crusher, police said Thursday.
The $450,000 Lamborghini Aventador was
stopped by police near high-end department
store Harrods at the end of last month. Should
the owner – believed to be 24-year-old Nasser
Al-Thani – fail to produce up-to-date insurance
details and refuse to pay any imposed fine, he
could see his flashy supercar wrecked by a
crusher.
And while such an unthinkable act may bring
tears to the eyes of petrolheads around the
world, Al-Thani might simply shrug his
shoulders, pop down the nearest Lamborghini
showroom and buy another one. He is, after
all, a member of the Qatari ruling family.
A spokesman for London’s Metropolitan Police
told the Evening Standard the Lamborghini,
complete with its 6.5-liter V12 engine, isn’t the
first upmarket vehicle its seized.
“We’ve had a few Porsches, BMW X5s, and a
Ferrari – that one got crushed and in fact the
vast majority of them are,” the spokesman
said.
The car, with an extraordinary purple and
orange paint job that’s rumored to glow in the
dark, drew quite a crowd when it was pulled
over by police (video below) in London’s
wealthy Knightsbridge district last week, with
many eager to snap a picture of the 217-mph
car as it was loaded onto the back of a truck.

Politics › Councilors Beat Up Delta Council Chairman As They ‘shared’ Allocation In Hotel by calddon(op): 6:48am On Aug 12, 2013
Sunday Chukwuedo, the chairman of
Aniocha North local government of Delta
State was yesterday mercilessly beaten
up in a hotel by the transition
committee.
Also beaten up as they shared the
monthly allocation accruing to the
council were the secretary, one Mr.
Onwuka, as well as the council
treasurer and the Head of Personnel
Management (HPM)
Trouble, it was gathered, started when
the councilors were tipped-off that the
chairman, secretary, treasurer and the
acting female HPM were hiding in one
of the rooms at Dove Hart Hotel at the
Issele-Uku headquarters of the council
allegedly sharing the monthly allocation
without their participation.
An impeccable council source told our
correspondent that as soon as the
angry councilors arrived at the hotel,
they forcibly opened the door to the
room where the illicit deal was allegedly
taking place. The source said the four
council officials were seen seated
dismantling the allocation and the
visibly angry councilors gave them the
beating of their lives. In the process,
the Secretary received head injuries
and was rushed to a nearby clinic by
witnesses.
According to a member of the hotel
staff, shortly after the beatings were
suitably delivered, men of the Issele-
Uku police station arrived at the scene
and arrested the councilors along with
the chairman, treasurer and the HPM.
They were taken to the station and
statements obtained from them.
Our correspondent gathered that it took
the intervention of the Speaker of the
Delta State House of Assembly, Mr.
Victor Ochei who is still away in the
United States of America on a training
course, along with other prominent
indigenes of the local government, to
bring the matter under control and
taken from the police station.
It was also learnt that there had been
a cold war between the chairman and
some of the councilors who alleged that
the chairman was not carrying them
along in the scheme of things, especially
in financial matters.
Speaking to our correspondent on the
phone, one of the angry councilors
disclosed that the embattled
Chukwuedo, who was allegedly planted
as the transition committee council
chairman by Ochei, has fraudulently
introduced the concept of “built-in”
salary, the proceeds of which he
discreetly shares with the three council
officials.
Explaining what is meant by “built-in”
salary, the councilor described it as the
fraudulent smuggling of fictitious names
into the council’s pay roll. In practice,
as soon as the allocation arrives, the
chairman and his cohorts would deduct
the illegal salaries, running into millions
of Naira and shared it. He alleged that
the manipulation has been going on for
several months.
Also contacted on phone, the embattled
chairman denied the story, saying he
was at the police station for a different
issue.
Two councilors who simply gave their
names as Mrs. Egbe and Mr. Buggy
confirmed the story to our
correspondent on the phone and
promised to call back for more details
which they never did at as the time of
going to press.
Since the incident happened, the acting
Chief Press Secretary to the speaker,
Mr. Nkem Osu, have been mounting
pressure and pleading with a section of
the press to drop the story with a
promise that as soon as the speaker
returns from his leadership training in
the USA, they would be “appreciated.”

Politics › Azazi's Relative, 2 Others Perish In Boat Mishaps In Bayelsa by calddon(op): 6:09am On Aug 12, 2013
Late former National Security Advisor,
General Owoye Andrew Azazi
By SaharaReporters, New York
Three persons, including a relative of
the late former National Security
Advisor, General Owoye Andrew Azazi,
lost their lives in separate boat mishaps
in Bayelsa State on Friday.
Two of the victims were killed at
Ekeremor council area while the third
was killed at Sagbama.
One of those killed at Ekeremor was
identified as Felix Azazi, a relative of
the late General Azazi who died
December 15, 2012 in a helicopter
accident. The other casualty in Ekeremor
was described simply as an Urhobo
man.
The two victims were reportedly
traveling to Ojobo in Delta State when
their boat capsized about 7.30 p.m. on
Friday. An eyewitness said the boat
capsized while trying to pass another
boat in front of Ekeremor police post.
The deceased Urhobo man was said to
be a landlord in Warri and was
accompanying his tenant, Mr. Azazi, to a
function when the accident happened.
The other boat mishap, which claimed
the life of a woman, also occurred on
Friday at 8 p.m. at Agbere in Sagbama
council area. The woman’s death
resulted from a collision between a
wooden boat and a speedboat. An
eyewitness blamed the accident on poor
visibility.
SaharaReporters was not able to obtain
the name of the deceased woman. But
a police source in the area said the
woman was traveling from the
Oshikwenike area of Ekeremor when she
met her untimely death. The police
source added that he did not know if
the passengers were wearing life
jackets when the accident occurred. He
however disclosed that most marine
transport passengers shun life jackets
even when ordered to wear them.
When contacted, the state police public
relations officer, Alex Akhigbe, only
confirmed the Sagbama boat mishap. Mr.
Akhigbe said he was not aware of the
Ekeremor accident.
