SPECIAL Adviser to Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Political Matters, Chief Charles Idahosa, has described as laughable the claim by former Foreign Affairs Minister, Chief Tom Ikimi that the PDP will trounce the APC in the forthcoming governorship election. He said “Ikimi is frustrated because he believes the Comrade Governor did not support him to become the National Chairman of the APC. How can Ikimi say Oshiomhole only built a clinic not a hospital, we are glad that he has confessed that he was the one that designed the state of art hospital at the Specialist Hospital. “It shows that we will investigate his claim of being an architect because part of that building he designed collapsed and that was why the state government decided to give the job to a more competent contractor. Ikimi is just a frustrated politician, and that was why he has been jumping from one party to the other just because he did not become the national chairman of APC. “His politics all the while is that is greed and self-interest he never cares about the interest of the people. We are not losing sleep over his boast and that of his colleagues who lost out in the APC because they will be defeated again. “Let them be running their mouths by September 10; they will all go back to their homes. Ikimi is a golfer and not a politician, and that is why we don’t bother about him. Their candidate Ize-Iyamu knows that he is going nowhere. Most of them will not win their units as usual. Do you know how many times Ikimi has begged Oshiomhole that he wants to come back to APC? “But because Oshiomhole knows he has no political relevance he has been adamant to receive him. So let them be deceiving themselves we shall soon know who owns Papa’s land” he declared.” |

PDP cannot win in Edo state That's true "cannot win" in Edo |
Ize-Iyamu's Many Rivers To Cross - Why we are holding fresh guber primaries in Edo - Sheriff gr The newly inaugurated Edo state leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under the Ali Modu Sheriff faction of the party, declared Monday that it was going on with the Wednesday governorship primaries of the party in the state, insisting that Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu emerged through a caretaker committee that is not backed by constitution of the PDP. Addressing journalists in Benin City Monday, factional chairman of the party and former chairman of the PDP in Ondo state, Ebenezer Alabi, disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will monitor the exercise, asserting that the court rulings so far on the issue, gave Ali Modu Sheriff the powers to produce the authentic governorship candidate of the PDP in Edo state to avoid fielding a candidate who according to him, emerged “through an illegal Caretaker Committee led by Ahmed Makarfi”. Flanked by the secretary of the caretaker committee, Chief Edmund Zealiwe and others, Alabi narrated that “the leadership of our party under Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, invoked section 31, sub section 2E of the constitution of PDP by suspending the state Executive members of the PDP in Edo state led by Chief Dan Orbih, for three months and appointed a seven man committee to superintend the Affairs of the PDP in Edo state. “We are holding our governorship primaries on Wednesday and the purpose of the primaries is to conform with the ruling of the court. You are aware that a lot of our members are in court as to who is the authentic leader of PDP in Nigeria because of the aborted convention we had in Port Harcourt. The court has made pronouncements. We are a democratic party and I believe we must follow the law. “The court made orders that the position of the National chairman, National secretary and national Auditor are not vacant that they have powers to hold such offices until 2018. Apart from that there is a court ruling in Abuja that actually said the tenure of Modu Sheriff ends in 2017. But despite these rulings, some members of our party went to Port Harcourt and elected caretaker committee to run the affairs of the party. |

Comrade Governor's CHOICE 2016. I’m proud of my friends, Oshiomhole replies PDP April 12 Governor Adams Oshiomhole has told a gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu that he is proud to call Alhaji Aliko Dangote his friend while Ize-Iyamu’s can’t boast of his friends and associates as some of them have been convicted of looting the state’s treasury. Pastor Ize-Iyamu who was Secretary to State Government during the administration of Mr. Lucky Igbinedion as Governor of Edo State had in a press statement published in some newspapers said “with the touted relationship with Dangote, it is just a few months to the end of his tenure that he could attract him to lay foundation stone for cement factory in Edo State”, however in a response by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Peter Okhiria, the Governor said “I’m proud to associate myself with Dangote, and I’m proud to say my friendship with Dangote has yielded a $1 billion investment in the state in the form of a brand new Okpella Cement factory which will offer close to 50,000 direct and indirect jobs to people of the state. “My friendship with Dr. David Ladipo yielded another $1 billion Azura Power Plant. My friendship with Captain Hosa Okunbo has yielded a $750 million Wells and Carlos Farms which is set to employ over 85,000 people. “I’m proud to say that under my stewardship as Governor, investors now find Edo State very attractive and they are coming down here in droves. Already a Chinese Steel Company, Yongxing, is in full production and is already seeking ways to expand its operations; another Chinese Company, Time Ceramics Limited is also into full production and already into the second phase of expanding its operations. Also, more Chinese companies are planning to set up their factories in different parts of the state, these are my friends, those are my records which I am proud of. Now, there is a popular saying “show me your friend and I will tell you whom you are”. Who are Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s friends? It is on record that some of his best friends have been convicted of looting the state’s treasury. What are Ize-Iyamu’s records as SSG in Edo State? How many of his friends was he able to attract to invest in the state? None. Rather than bring in investors to the state, they siphoned the state money and established phoney companies: Ehor Juice factory, Cassavita Company, AVA Cement factory all of which were designed to fail from the beginning and which they eventually sold to their cronies at give-away prices. Ize-Iyamu said a PDP Government will commission the Okpella Cement factory. Is the PDP still functional in Edo State? Is it not instructive that nobody finds the PDP attractive to jostle for that party’s gubernatorial ticket. As at the last count, the APC had over 13 aspirants, while the PDP had just four. That is reflective of the apathy, dissatisfaction, and resentment the people have towards that drowning party. The PDP will never again reverse the development train of the APC government in Edo State and come 2018, another APC government will continue from where we stop on November 12, 2016, and will commission the $1 billion Okpella Cement factory and many other industries which my friends have signified interest to establish in Edo State. Yes, Aliko Dangote is my friend. Ize-Iyamu, who is your friend?

The Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, on Thursday in Lagos defended the Federal Government’s refusal to devalue the naira. Mr. Oshiomhole said, while delivering a keynote address at the maiden edition of The Cable Colloquium, that the government’s position was to pull speculators out of business. The Colloquium was entitled: “The Naira on Trial: To Devalue or Not?” According to him, a history of devaluation of the nation’s currency since the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) has not benefitted the economy in any guise. “The first time the concept of devaluation was introduced to us by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), it generated a national debate. “Chief Olu Falae lectured us about the beauty of devaluation. When you devalue, the price of imported goods will go up, the capacity to consume will drop, and total outflow of forex will be less. “Nigerian goods will become cheaper, importation will be less and exportation will be more. This will lead to more foreign exchange and will shore up our foreign reserves,’’ Mr. Oshiomhole said. The governor, however, noted that devaluation had never translated to an approximate increase in exported goods because of “Nigerians’ appetite for foreign or imported goods’’. He argued that available statistics from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that “the thesis that if we devalue, we will export more, cannot be supported. “The real critical question is – will devaluation curb our appetite for imported goods? I am unable to find gains in devaluation,’’ Mr. Oshiomhole said. He said that currency speculators were the ones manipulating the naira, and exerting pressures on the CBN to devalue it, for their selfish gains. He explained that the nation was dealing with pure speculations and assumptions on the nation’s currency because a few profit from such manipulations of the exchange rate. “Some people are speculating on the naira; just manipulating the naira for their selfish ends. This is how a section of the business community make their money,’’ Mr. Oshiomhole said. The former labour leader said that the Nigerian worker had been trapped as a result of the actions of currency manipulators. He called on well-meaning Nigerians to support the forex policy of the CBN and the stand by the Federal Government not to devalue the nation’s currency.

Against the backdrop of the revelations contained in a confessional televised statement by the embattled Ekiti State Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Tope Aluko, on Channels Television live programme on Sunday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has urged the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to prosecute all indicted people in the election rigging scandal and that he should ask Fayose to tell Nigerians which election result he was collating in Efon-Alaye on June 19, 2014. The party said it had on two occasions petitioned the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice on the same matter, stressing that the latest revelations by PDP scribe had made it imperative that the nation’s chief law officer must act now. Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, noted in a statement on Monday that the election fraud crisis had refused to go despite all shenanigans by Governor Ayodele Fayose, who he said was the biggest beneficiary of the election fraud that had created blight on Nigeria’s international image. The APC spokesman said even though there was nothing new in the PDP’s scribe’s revelations, he noted, however, that it had become pertinent to prosecute the suspects as the revelations were again emanating from the insider who participated fully in what is now known as Ekitigate. “By Aluko’s revelations, we are justified in our claim that our candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, never lost that election, but was criminally toppled by a coup d’etat orchestrated by Fayose in cahoots with President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration that illegally deployed money and the military to ensure victory for Fayose. “It is interesting that more names are coming up in the biggest election scam ever witnessed in Nigeria with the alleged participation of Ifeanyi Ubah of the infamous Transformation Agenda for Nigeria (TAN), a shadowy campaign group for former President Jonathan in the fraud. No wonder Ubah was compensated with a honorary Fellow by Fayose at the Ekiti State College of Education for a job well done. “It is in the light of this that we are calling on the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation to prosecute all the suspects in the election fraud for treasonable felony to preserve the integrity of the Nigerian Constitution,” Olatunbosun said. The APC said President Muhammadu Buhari should use Ekiti election fraud case to convince Nigerians that official impunity and fraud would not have a place in Nigeria under his watch. “We have seen the Army already tackling the military aspect of the Army Probe Panel report. We expect the police and attorney general of the federation to also tow the line in coming out with the civilian component of the probe report and act accordingly. “The military men were mere agents used by Fayose to rig the election. Some of the officers implicated in Fayose’s crime had been recommended for various sanctions, including losing their jobs while others are to face prosecution by the EFCC and court martial, according to the military rules and administrative procedure. “These military men should not be made to suffer alone for the crime committed in conjunction with Fayose and his fellow conspirators in PDP who are still working free as if there is no law in this country,” he said. Olatunbosun berated Fayose’s media aides, Lanre Ogunsuyi and Lere Olayinka, for claiming that Captain Koli’s audio tape was a forgery, saying, however, that it was gratifying that Fayose, who also first denied his voice on the tape, later admitted that the voice was his. If the Ekiti audio tape was a forgery as they alleged, were the appearances of Koli and Tope Aluko also forgeries? Noting that Fayose had always mouthed his readiness to wave his immunity to face prosecution over alleged crimes, he said now was the time to wave that immunity to face prosecution on the electoral fraud. He insisted that APC would not accept anything short of comprehensive review of Ekiti State election saga, even as he urged Nigerians to prevail on the Minister of Justice to compel Fayose to explain to the world what he meant by saying that he collected INEC soft copies and got them printed as captured in Captain Sagir Koli’s tape detailing all activities connected with Ekiti poll rigging. “Besides Fayose talking on the tape about how INEC gave him soft copies that he printed to win the election, the Minister of Justice must also compel the governor, who spoke on election result collation in the tape, to tell Nigerians which election result he was collating in Efon-Alaye on June 19, 2014, two clear days before the June 21, 2014 governorship election,” Olatunbosun concluded. |

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the party’s governorship candidate in Taraba State, Senator Aisha Alhassan, “deserves the mandate that she was given by people of the state.” Senator Salisu Musa Matori, who spoke in Gombe said Senator Aisha Alhassan was elected by the people of Taraba State in the last governorship election “because of their love for her and their desire for change.” Sen Aisha Jumei Alhasan He maintained that on all grounds, Hajia Aisha was qualified to be governor of the state. He said apart from the fact that the people voted for her, “she contested against a candidate that was not validly nominated by any political party. He noted that Primaries is a necessary prerequisite for contesting election in Nigeria and that anything short of that is illegal and must be treated as such. He said Senator Aisha Alhassan’s victory at the Supreme Court will revive the faith of the masses in the judiciary. “It will also be a victory for not just the women folk, but the North and the entire country. It will further strengthen democracy and encourage women participation in politics. It will show that Nigeria’s democracy has come of age,” he said. He added: “We are praying that the judges will be fair in their ruling as the judiciary still remains the last hope of the common man. The common man has nowhere to go apart from the judiciary, so it is imperative for the judges to show that they are there for the people and that justice will always be served.” The senator described the APC candidate as a courageous woman who has achieved a lot through hardwork. He hailed her for standing her ground and following the right channel to reclaim her mandate. The governorship election petition tribunal had sacked Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and returned Senator Aisha Alhassan, who is also Minister of Women Affairs, as governor of the state. But the Appeal court upturned that ruling. Hajia Aisha Alhasan is currently before the Supreme Court appealing that verdict |
Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s letter to the National Assembly over lawmakers’ “reckless spending” and insensitivity to the country’s economic downturn yesterday generated ripples. The ex-President received knocks from the House of Representatives whose spokesman described his correspondence as “a distraction”. Obasanjo, in a January 13 letter to Senate President Bukola Saraki and House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara, accused the lawmakers of reckless spending and abuse of office. He asked them to return to the path of honour. Obasanjo also asked the lawmakers to open their financial records for external audit. The leadership of the National Assembly acknowledged receipt of the latter and Saraki, in a “preliminary” response, said the 8th Senate was committed to transparency and accountability. The chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dino Melaye, accused Obasanjo of introducing corruption into the legislature. He described his letter as “a misplacement of anger”. Vowing not to take up issues with Obasanjo over the letter, the House said it believed that it was not directed at it but at the 4th and 5th House that operated when Obasanjo was President between 1999 and 2007. House spokesman Abdulrazak Namdas said: “We don’t want to join issues because we see the letter as a distraction. Moreover, we don’t believe the letter is directed to this Assembly but to the 4th and 5th Aseembly when he was the President. “I say this because the subject of the letter is about tranparency and for us, we have keyed into transparency and very open about our activities.” House Minority Leader Leo Ogor said buying vehicles for oversight functions is not in contravention of the constitution. Obasanjo criticised the lawmakers’ planned purchase of vehicles for oversight functions after obtaining car loans. Ogor said if the former President and Nigerians do not want oversight functions of check and balance against the executive, a process of amending the Constitution should be initiated. Melaye, who represents Kogi West, wondered why Obasanjo should mistake the 8th National Assembly as the one that allegedly defrauded him in 2007 by collecting his money and refusing to actualise what he called his Third Term agenda. He hoped that the letter was not an attempt to cover up and distract attention from the Halliburton and Siemens corruption allegations. Melaye said: “I have tremendous respect for President Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo. “Elder statesman, respected Pan- Africanist and committed patriot. “I went through the letter written to all Senators and members of the House of Representatives. “The letter I can see is a misplacement of anger. Our leader is mistaking the 8th National Assembly as the same Senate Assembly that defrauded him in 2007. ”I appeal to Babathat we are not the ones please. “After nine years of that bribery saga, the first of its kind, I expect forgiveness to have taken place. “There was the case of bribery introduced by the Obasanjo regime in the desperate attempt to remove Speaker Ghali Umar Na’abba from office then. “In fact, there was an open display of that bribery money on the floor of the House. That government exposed the National Assembly to corruption and easy money. “I hope this is not an attempt to cover up and distract attention from the Halliburton and Siemens corruption allegations. “While I am against corruption anywhere in Nigeria, I will not support accusations based on anger and vindictiveness. “The 8th Senate should also look inwardly and purge herself of all the deliberate misgivings of the past. Nigeria must work and we must support the anti-corruption stand of the Buhari Administration. God bless Nigeria. |

NLNG Funds Not Remitted Under Jonathan – Oshiomhole ;;;; Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said yesterday that the former President Goodluck Jonathan administration illegally refused to transfer funds remitted to it by the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) into the federation account. According to him, with the renewed transparency being returned to the system by President Muhammadu Buhari, Edo State would have gotten N10 billion consecutively in four years of the Jonathan administration. The governor who spoke to journalists after meeting with President Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja regretted that his state lost N10billion under the former accounting order of Jonathan and former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. He said, however, that Nigerians have always been happy with President Buhari because he had been very clear from day one on his campaign promises “about putting an end to impunity and fragrant disobedience of law and order”. Oshiomhole explained that the NLNG was not just starting to remit, as it had been doing that every year plus taxes paid by Shell, amounting to about $500 million. He said the $500 million added to the amount of $1.6 billion from NLNG was what totalled to the amount of $2.1 billion that was shared last week. Noting that the remitted NLNG funds were not been transferred to the federation account, Oshiomhole said, “For example, all the noise that have been generated over what happened last week, there was nothing extraordinary. “What was extraordinary is that the NLNG has over the years been remitting funds to the federal government. But the federal government illegally refused to transfer these funds to the consolidated revenue fund which belongs to the three tiers of government. “All that President Buhari has done is in line with his commitments to ensuring that all funds and monies accruing to the federation account are so remitted. He has directed the CBN to transfer the funds to the consolidated account. “And our commissioners along with federal officials met last week to share those funds in line with the revenue allocation formula. If this money had come under the last president, it will have gone the same way as in previous years”. Oshiomhole said with the renewed transparency brought about by the Buhari administration’s total compliance to the spirit and letter of the constitution in section 80, what Edo state would have gotten in the past four is left to be imagined. His words: “If what we got last week courtesy of this renewed commitment to transparency; if we had gotten this these past four years consecutively, we would have made about N10 billion. So, by the same token, Edo State government had lost N10 billion under President Goodluck Jonathan and under Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. “And this is the point we have been making when analysts just talk about states, states. They do not really probe the specifics and because the federal voice is always louder and people make assumptions that certain people are not likely to do certain things. “The truth is that so much was not paid to the federation account and that explains the huge gap. That was why in some of my statements, I said it is not just question of drop in price but it is also the denial of a lot of revenue that ought to have accrued into the federation account. So, no state has gotten a dime from what we called bail out or Excess Crude Account”. Asked whether as a former labour leader, he supports the call for minimum wage increase, Oshiomhole regretted that general, workers in the country are poorly paid. He said, “Let me be very clear, I believe the Nigerian worker is under paid. Paricularly in the public sector. If you look at the wage trend now, you will find out that what a graduate of level 8, step 2 in the public service earns, if the same young man is to get a job in an oil company or some subsection of the public section, his pay will be much more. If a worker is confronted with endless rise in costs of living and his wages are stagnant, obviously whether you know it or not, he is already experiencing pressures on his living standard. If you look at the minimum wage when it was fixed, the exchange rate was about N140 to a dollar, so N18,000 is about $130 a month. Now at N200 per dollar, N18,000 is about $90 and so you can see the only beneficiary in this kind of inflationary environment are those who have fixed assets like building because the more your naira is devalued, the higher the nominal value of your assets”. The governor who boasted that his state government is not indebted to any worker noted that Edo is update in its salary obligations. “We are up to date in our allowances. I believe that some states have made a lot of progress in the area of internally generated revenue. But also some states are better placed to make more money or raise more money from internally generated revenue. “For example, if you have the luck of number of industries being located in your state, now the fact of those location of those businesses means that you have people and organizations that are taxable. “Now, if you are in a state where the private sector is completely absent, no matter how hard you look inward, you are not likely to find much. So we have to appreciate sometimes when people make this that state should look inward”. |

The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, who prophesied that many politicians who lost in the last election would win, speaks on why some of his prophecies didn’t come to pass, his prophesy on Jonathan and why Buhari may be stoned in 6 months.Read excerpts from Punch You prophesied that there would be trouble if President Goodluck Jonathan went ahead to contest for the election. You said other things but they didn’t come to pass. Yes, I said he should go back to his village. In 2012, I said I saw a new president. That was the last prophecy for that year. It was a prophecy of 2012 that was to be out in 2013. So in 2013, I prophesied again that he should not run, that I saw violence. On January 1 of that year, they brought down my church. Jonathan dismantled my church in Abuja. He hit me seriously. It was in the papers that I was a victim of prophecy. What was the reason given? Nothing. The certificate of occupancy was okay. They just came and marked it. On what grounds are you marking it? Nothing. So when people like Father Mbaka said they were threatened, I just laughed because I was not threatened, I was actually hit. They brought down the whole building and told us to leave. We tried to get another land but everyone we approached said they were being threatened. But let me tell you something about prophecies, they have leverages and you cannot judge prophecy except you have the spirit of prophecy. I’m a journalist and sometimes when I read in the papers how journalists criticise prophecies, I laugh. But I don’t blame them. If you watch that prophecy manual, I said very clearly that President Jonathan would not win but that the man that would win would not be given. It was stated there. I said a few prophecies about some other people- (Ibikunle) Amosun, (Nasir) el Rufai, (Nyesom) Wike and some other people. Whether a prophecy is fulfilled or not depends on who it’s said about. Few of the people prophesied about contacted me. I don’t want to call names but they contacted me. You said I won’t get this or that, I want it. Can it be reversed?’ I said very well. If you are given certain prayers to make, prophecies can be reversed. If you’re given certain things to do, prophecies can be reversed. He said even Muslims reached out to him for the prophesy's to be reversed And actually, there were some people I never thought would reach out to me, those who were Muslims, those who were stubborn leaders, they contacted me. So, I told them ‘this is not about man, it’s about God. If you’re humble enough, we can pray about it.’ And we prayed. Like today especially, I’ve got messages from people who were happy and said ‘Oh, thank God, it was reversed.’ Like that of the President, I saw him a month before the election and we talked one on one. All I told him was that he wouldn’t win. I personally told Jonathan to concede defeat. I told him he would save a lot of heads if he conceded defeat and left. I saw not less than half a million people without their heads. So prophecies have been given and as they are given, people are now becoming wise , especially when they have seen the accuracy of some prophecies. They would say before I become a victim, let me contact this man. And when they do that, they get the prophecies reversed and it’s not in our place as ministers of God to talk. Is that what happened in el Rufai’s case when you said he disrespected Jesus Christ and so would not win the election? He has won now. I won’t mention names. But what happened in his own case then because you said he would not win the election and he won? Can you ask me what happened in Amosun’s case that I said he would win and he won? Can you ask me what happened in Wike’s case that I said he would win and he won? Can you ask me what happened in Ayo Fayose’s case that I said I saw him being threatened and removed and presently he’s going through an impeachment process? So if we could discuss positives. Yes, we can also discuss negatives if we could discuss positives. Like I said, when a prophecy is given, you can wriggle yourself out of it. And let me say something, I’m not tying this to an individual–that you won an election doesn’t mean you have been sworn in. On Buhari Let me say this to you. In the next six months, people may stone Buhari. The reason I’m saying this is because the expectation is too high. Nigerians expect Buhari to put gold on their tables. Two, the large chunk of followership Buhari has are youths and young people and they are impatient. Young people don’t believe in progressive change , they want change. When they say change, they see a new picture. And Buhari has been talking from the two sides of the mouth. During campaign, he told us Boko Haram would be a thing of the past. Now, you are President-elect, you are saying people shouldn’t expect a miracle. Are you a pastor? If I wanted a miracle worker, won’t I bring a Mallam or a miracle worker? When you were being voted for, we were not voting for a pastor, so don’t tell us about miracles. Like I said, Jonathan will be seen as a hero very soon because that’s the Nigerian story. Anybody who they feel is not doing well, get him out. The next few minutes, they miss this person. If by September, there is still a blink in power, people will start abusing Buhari. You said you were going to do this. Two, who are Buhari’s footmen, the large chunk are ex-PDP people and of course you know, many are still defecting. Nigerian politicians are the most shameless people (I know); they can’t bear hunger. They are defecting now to lobby for offices. If you should check the people around the man, it gives you an idea of where the man is heading. If you check the agenda, listen to their campaign, it wasn’t about issues, it was about personality.Change this man! And I wanted us to talk about what the issues are, brainstorm to make things better. I heard he had a five-hour meeting behind closed doors with President Jonathan. He has now seen the reality of how deep the issues are and it has now dawned on him that the man sitting there was actually managing to survive. That is one thing about leadership. When the ball is passed to you, you realise it’s deeper than you think. So I do not see change in Nigeria. The only change I see is we have a breath of fresh air, a new government. To say there will be instant change in Nigeria, I doubt. We are praying as Christians and believers. It doesn’t matter what the enemy is trying to do in Nigeria, as believers, we know that the will of God will be done.

Report from UpShotReports (Unconfirmed) Outgoing President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has told the embattled Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state to resign now or face the inevitable option of impeachment by the 19 lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Jonathan was said to have told Fayose that the time of impunity in Nigeria is over and that he (Jonathan) is committed to the rule of law. “As you can see, I am already packing my personal belongings out of the Villa, back to my Village, I cannot influence any process, we must allow the law to run its full course, we cannot continue to disrupt due process, that is not good for the country.” According to a source, Fayose (and the Ondo state Governor, Olusegun MImiko) were deliberately absent at the post election meeting held with Jonathan in Aso Rock because of the dismal performance of the PDP in the South West despite the last-minute huge investment and the promises that the zone will be delivered to the party. The 19 All Progressives Congress lawmakers in the Ekiti State House of Assembly have begun moves that may lead to impeachment proceedings against Governor Ayodele Fayose. The factional Speaker of the Ekiti state House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, had last week, forwarded a notice of gross misconduct to the governor, a copy of the notice was also sent to his deputy, Dr. Olusola Eleka. But Fayose in his characteristic manner said the APC lawmakers should stop acting like “jesters”, describing the purported impeachment notice as the “joke of the century.” According to him, the script being acted by the APC is a failed one because no one, no matter how highly placed, will be allowed to test the will of the Ekiti people. In the letter by the 19 lawmakers titled, “Re: Notice of Allegations of Gross Misconduct,” sent to Fayose, the APC lawmakers listed eight impeachable offences against the governor. These offences bordered on impunity, brigandage, stalking and other constitutional breaches. These included alleged invasion of the House of Assembly with thugs and miscreants, instigating an unconstitutional takeover of the House by seven legislators to sit in contravention of Section 96(2) of the 1999 Constitution, and prevention of the 19 APC legislators from performing their duties with the use of security agents and armed thugs. Other allegations listed in the notice are: sponsoring an unlawful impeachment process in the house, spending Ekiti State funds without the requisite constitutional approval in contravention of the constitution and running the government without legally constituted Executive Council in contravention of Section 192(2) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. They also accused the governor of operating an illegal 2014 budget as well as sponsoring and instigating illegal sitting of the House in contravention of Section 96(1) of the Constitution. It was also learnt that moves by the embattled Governor Fayose, who published some death-wish adverts against the candidacy of the President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, to seek a truce with Buhari has hit brick walls. Fayose was said to have sent some emissaries through some traditional rulers in Ekiti state to help him appeal to Buhari for forgiveness, saying that his attacks on him were not personal but part of politicking. The Supreme Court has also reserved ruling till April 14 in the appeal find by the APC in Ekiti state challenging the emergence of Fayose as governor in the June 21, governorship polls, in which the PDP won in all the 16 local governments of the state.
