To ensure that it  hits the ground running after the May 29 hand-over, President-elect, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has started putting together his cabinet, according to Vanguard report.
 
He has directed governors elected on the platform of his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, to forward the names of their ministerial nominees and the governors have started responding.
 
Three names are to be submitted by each state.A South-East governor, last week, told stakeholders in the zone to immediately comply.
 
The conditions
While giving the directive, Buhari also left at least two criteria the governors must meet in nominating people for the appointment.
 
One of the conditions is the candidates must be technically competent and of proven integrity. The second condition is the person must be loyal to the party.
 
APC faithful to be considered first
By this, a source said that Buhari indirectly laid emphasis on the need to field the names of founding members of the party and not defectors from other political parties.
The President-elect, it was gathered, also told the governors that he reserved the right to choose anyone from the three names submitted by each governor.
 
Lean cabinet
Vanguard also reports that Buhari may run a lean cabinet where the status quo is 42 ministers. A source, who craved anonymity, told Vanguard that Buhari may also eliminate the slots for ministers of state to reduce the cost of governance.
 
However, the source said that there is pressure on Buhari from his party to accommodate ministers of state  to “at least compensate women in the party.” “Left to Buhari, he wouldn’t have more  than 20 ministers but there is a lot of pressure on him to use it to compensate the women,” the source disclosed.
 
Apart from compensating women and other party faithful, Buhari is also bound by the constitution to choose at least one minister from each state of the federation.
On whether he would toe that path, another source, who is a member of the National Assembly, said “unless, he would want to amend the constitution, he is obligated to run a broad cabinet.”
 
APC govs to meet Buhari today Meanwhile, APC governors would be meeting with the president-elect today.
 
Though the meeting appears to be a congratulatory one, Vanguard learned that issues relating to the party’s interests would be discussed. Such issues include the lingering imbroglio surrounding the zoning of National Assembly leadership slots like Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives among others.
 
It was learned that zones jostling for the positions had been asked to meet at the zonal level with their National Assembly members to come out with a harmonised position on the issue to enable the Buhari/Oyegun committee set up for that purpose to take a stand on it.

For Mrs Christabel Nwaogbue, what could give her a sigh of relief is for the Rivers State Police Command arresting the killers of her husband, Chuwuma and getting justice.  The Delta State-born businessman was murdered during this year’s Easter over three plots of land.

Christabel is urging the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase to order  the state command to arrest the killers.   Chukwuma and his friend were shot and butchered before they were buried in shallow graves by their killers.

Christabel, who gave an insight on how Chukwuma was killed in Aruma Rumuekini town in Obio Akpor Local Government Area said: “My husband’s sin was that he bought three plots of land in the place.  The land was sold to him by one Samuel.

“He bought the plots of land about three weeks before his death.  He told me that he had done investigation and Samuel told him that deal was okay and they were not in dispute.

“So, on Good Friday, my husband told me that he was taking a friend to the plots so that the friend could start farming there till he decides on what to do on the land.

“Anyway, I tried to convince him not to go to until after Easter, but the friend I don’t even know his name, kept calling him on phone, so, he left in his Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

“Actually, I did not have a premonition that danger was lurking around, but my instinct was telling me that he should have waited till after Easter.  Well, when I waited for him and he did not come back home, I was worried but I thought maybe he was too busy.  Well, I later received a devastating phone call from a police officer who told me to come to the station.

“In fact, I was devastated when the police took me to the place where they executed my husband like a common criminal.  I saw him and another lifeless body that I suspect may be that of his friend in the booth of his car.

“I needed no doctor to tell me that my husband was brutally butchered.  I passed out on seeing his corpse.  I later regained consciousness.  I was briefed by a senior police officer that my husband was killed in company with his friend and that they were exhumed from shallow graves on the land.

“The police officer told me that it was Samuel who sold the land to my husband that called the police attention to the shallow graves.  The question that I am asking is, why was it that the person who sold the land to my husband was the first person to know that my husband and another man were killed and buried in shallow graves?  Let him tell the police who he suspected that was responsible for my husband’s death since he assured my husband that the land was not in dispute.  He should be questioned,” Mrs Nwaogbue said.

According to the widow, the man that was killed alongside her husband died without anybody tracing his background.  “The family would have been looking for him.  No one knows his identity.

“I want to appeal to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 6, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin to use his good office to bring the killers of my husband to book.  It is only when this is done that his soul would have rest.  His spirit is still very angry,” she said.

Mother of the deceased,  who is also a widow, Patience Nwaogbue, is also asking AIG Ogunsakin to fish out the killers of her son.  “My son was killed like a common criminal.  I was told that he was shot and butchered with sharp objects.  What was his offence?  Just because he bought three plots of land.  I am sure that if the police investigate the matter, they will discover that many people would have fallen victims just like my son and his friend.

“I am sure that the land was used by the owner as a bait to deceive prospective buyers and thereafter do away with them,” she noted.

Efforts to reach the land speculator proved abortive as he refused to pick his calls.

The model and budding actor broke the news via his instagram page saying he couldn’t go by air and had to hire a vehicle.

He wrote, “So “aero contractors” decided to refund us due to scarcity of aviation fuel. i had an important appearance to meet up wit last night in benin so i decided to hire a car to take me to benin since i didn’t have any oda option. just as we were approaching ore in ondo state, one of the back tires bursted. the driver lost control…….. the picture you are seeing right now explains d rest of d story. now the interesting part…… i came out of this vehicle without a scratch. my tab that i was holdin was intact. the dark sunshades dat i wearing was also without a scratch. not one single injury was recorded in this accident. even the driver was not injured at all. i was still able to meet up wit d event in benin and everything went on successfully. my people, help me thank god for this wonderful miracle. the God i serve neither slumbers nor sleeps. he will give his angels charge over thee to keep thee in all thy ways. he who did not make u cannot break u. thy shall walk through the fire and thy shall not b burnt. As for QOH, I've learnt not to expect too much too soon so I don't get dissappointed too early in the novela. I'm just glad those common faces weren't casted.
