We are still teaching our kids the botanical names of plants while they are teaching their kids how to marry mango and orange to produce man-range. They are teaching their kids coding and programming in well equipped schools while we are teaching our kids how to prophecy and speak in tongues in well equipped churches.

Our children's school drama is about how to be a pastor or imam while theirs is about how to relocate to a new planet. They boast about conquering Mars, while we boast about hearing from the Holy Spirit. We boast of defending Jesus and Prophet Mohammed, while they boast of producing cures for deadly disease.

We choose our leaders based on tribe and religion while they choose theirs based on the solutions these leaders bring to the table.

The God we all claim to love is definitely not in love with us. But in the end, the God is not to blame.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said that more than 8,000 members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Osun State will be deployed as ad hoc staff in the conduct of the September 22 governorship poll holding in the state.



According to the Resident Electoral Commissioners in the state, Olusegun Agbaje, “over 8,000 corps members are part of the expected 15,000 ad-hoc staff who are going to use for the conduct of the September governorship election. We have already sourced for over 90 per cent of the ad hoc staff we are going to be requiring for the election and most of them are from the higher institutions around.”



He also stated that the commission registered a total number of 1, 677, 384 voters as against 1, 407, 000 of 2014 but said out of these persons, 1, 144, 273, representing 68.5 per cent had collected their permanent voter cards while there were still 524, 251 uncollected cards.



The REC said, “We want to improve on the 2014 performance. We want to start by 8 am in all polling units across all local government areas of the state. This time around accreditation and voting would be done simultaneously. I want to also implore the electorate to eschew any attempt to bribe or accept bribe from anyone during the poll because that is a violation of the Electoral Act and anyone who does that would be arrested and prosecuted.”

A coalition of labor rights groups on Wednesday, August 15, protested outside the Taipei City Hall, Taiwan, demanding the city investigate the death of a Nigerian man found dead at a Hwang Chang General Contractor Co construction site.

Nwagbo John Ugochukwu, 55, was found dead at a construction site for the new Huannan Market in Wanhua District on the morning of July 30, Taiwan International Workers’ Association (TIWA) chairwoman Susan Chen said.

While the company denied having hired Ugochukwu, who had entered Taiwan in June on a one-month tourist visa, Chen said the association was told by a worker that the Nigerian had been working at the construction site.

The worker, who preferred to remain anonymous, added that the company might have tampered with evidence to evade responsibility, she said.

“Based on what we were told, Ugochukwu fell from the first basement level to the second basement level, but the company told police and labor inspection officials that he had fallen from the second floor to the first and that it happened in a stairwell.”





The association also alleged that the company might have deleted the security footage of the incident.

“As far as we know, immediately following the incident, Hwang Chang called the security company and did something with the footage. Later, police told me there was no footage of the incident,” she said.

Moreover, they suspected there might be more people working illegally for the company.

“The government has not approved any program allowing the company to hire migrant workers, but many migrant workers have been seen working at the construction site. It is unclear whether they were company employees transferred from other construction sites or if they were illegal immigrants,” Chen said.



The Taipei Department of Labor should not only investigate the case, but ensure that the basic human rights of migrant workers and illegal immigrants are protected, she said.

“We want the truth about his death, so that he may rest in peace. He might have been an illegal immigrant, but he was also a human being. His body is now being handled like that of an unidentified person — left at the Taipei City Mortuary Services Office’s Second Funeral Parlor,” she said.

Hwang Chang issued a statement saying that Ugochukwu had entered the construction site by mistake and injured himself after slipping.

He died after being sent to a hospital, it said.

Ugochukwu was not an employee of Hwang Chang nor its partner firms, it said, adding that it will never illegally hire foreign workers.

The company will take full responsibility for the incident. it has contacted the Taipei Trade Office of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and other agencies, and will work on improving safety at its construction sites.

Asked if the company had tampered with evidence, a company representative said it has been working with police on the case and cannot comment while the investigation is ongoing.

After police have identified the cause of death, the Department of Labor will investigate whether Ugochukwu had been illegally employed and if there were issues of workplace safety involved, department Secretary Chang Chien-kuo said.

A woman collapsed this morning during a protest held by women of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to demand the whereabouts of their leader Nnamdi Kanu.

The women took to streets in Owerri, Imo state, demanding to have answers about the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu who disappeared on September 14, 2017, after his home was invaded by the Nigerian Army.

As they marched, one of their members fainted and was resuscitated by her fellow IPOB members.

The protest comes one day after the Nigerian Army announced its readiness to embark on Operation Python Dance III in major communities in the South East.

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday accused Senate president Bukola Saraki of committing a treasonable offence against the Nigerian Government.

Saraki and speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara had earlier refused to reconvene the National Assembly, stating that joint committee on electoral matters has to meet with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

But, the ruling party has summarised the refusal to reconvene the National Assembly and vacation of his seat as president of the Nigerian Senate as treasonable actions.

APC national chairman Adams Oshiomole had said the Senate president’s actions were not in the interest of Nigeria.

“This is another display of Saraki abuse of power, sabotage of government. While he and his cohorts continue to postpone their doomsday regarding Senate leadership change, INEC 2019 budget is dangerously delayed. His actions now bother (sic) on treason,” APC spokesperson Yekini Nabena said.
“As Chairman of 8th National Assembly Saraki’s decision not to reconvene National Assembly done with the support of Yakubu Dogara buttresses our position that Saraki is ever ready to pursue his selfish interests over National Interest,”
Nabena said the party maintains that Saraki resigns as Senate president or face impeachment.
“He cannot lead the APC majority Senate. But if he fails to resign honourably, we will impeach him. The PDP’s propaganda and the threat of violence cannot save him,” Nabena said.
All has not been rosy between Saraki and the APC after he left the party to join the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in July due to unresolved grievances with the party.
Before his defection, Saraki had been accused of being the stumbling block to the progress of the President Muhammadu Buhari led government for failing to confirm the president’s appointees and delay in approval of national budget.
Since his defection, APC on different occasions had asked Saraki to vacate his seat as president of the Nigerian Senate which its national leader described as “a crown” belonging to the party and has afterwards plotted to impeach Saraki.

Grace stared at her phone expecting it to beep at any time. She just recovered from having a fever and was ready to get pounded but no one was replying her message. She got tired of going through the limited apps and games on her torchlight phone.

Renowned production studio, Disney, is currently developing an African fairy tale movie “Sade’’ with Nigerian-American producer and director, Rick Famuyiwa.

Sade, according to news from Disney over the weekend, will be centred on an African princess after the fashion of the commercially successful “Black Panther’’.

The movie was pitched by Nigerian writer, Ola Shokunbi and American writer, Lindsey Reed Palmer and was subsequently bought by Disney.

Shokunbi and Palmer will co-write the screenplay about a young African girl named Sadé whose kingdom is threatened by a mysterious evil force.

Sade accepts her newly discovered magical powers to protect her people with the help of the kingdom’s prince.

Famuwiya will produce and Scott Falconer will executive produce through their Verse production banner.

He is well known for writing and directing the award-winning coming-to-age film “Dope’’ among others, including “The Flash’’, “Confirmation’’ and “Our Family Wedding’’.

Although a director has yet to be named, Tendo Nagenda and Zoe Kent are overseeing the project for the studio.
Disney saw massive success in 2018 with its Marvel blockbuster flick “Black Panther,” set in the fictional African nation of Wakanda.

The movie had worldwide box office grosses hitting 1.35 billion dollars. It’s the third-highest domestic performer of all time at 700 million dollars.
