Politics › Wike Flags Off Construction Of Multi-event Sports Centre In Abuja by CapitalLens(op): 5:48am On Sep 02, 2025 |
...MOURN LATE FCTA HEAD OF SERVICE
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the construction of a new multi-event sports centre in Kafe District of the territory.
Speaking during the foundation laying ceremony on Monday, September 1, 2025, the FCT Minister emphasized the evolving role of sports beyond physical fitness, highlighting its significant economic potential.
He said the project was a key initiative aimed at empowering the youth, creating employment opportunities, and diversifying the economy of the FCT.
The Minister said, "So many of us used to think that sports is about keeping fit, but that has passed. Today, sports is one of the sectors that has kept many countries going. Brazil, for instance, exports so many players to the world and they make a lot of money from it. They cannot do that if you have no facilities that will encourage and bring about the talents of our youths".
The Minister noted that the project aligns with one of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-Point Agenda goals of youth empowerment, adding that the new centre is designed to be a comprehensive hub for various athletic disciplines, including football, basketball, volleyball, lawn tennis, squash, and table tennis, all built to international standards.
“If you look at the concept, it is very holistic. That's why we call it multi- events sports centre. It has everything you can think about, any kind of sports. So, we encourage our youth to take advantage of this. You want to be a basketballer, you want to be in volleyball, football, Lawn tennis, squash, Table tennis, whatever you think, we're going to make it available here and to International Standard”, he said.
"This is not the only one we are going to construct", Barr. Wike added, confirming plans for future facilities in other Area Councils to ensure widespread access to sporting infrastructure for Abuja's youth.
Barr. Wike urged the contractor to complete the project ahead of the scheduled 12-month timeline and to coincide with President Tinubu's third anniversary in office. He stressed the importance of timely and quality delivery, warning that failure to meet standards would result in the termination of future contracts with the FCT Administration.
"I beg you, because one of the problems I have seen with our local contractors, the moment the funds come, then, they remember that they have not done their marriage rites, they realise that they have not paid school fees. Do the job, the remaining one, you can use it to do any other things. The job first", the Minister stated. The Minister who had earlier called for a minute silence in honour of the late Head of FCTA Civil Service, Mrs. Grace Adayilo, used the occasion to express his condolences at her passing.
He described the death of Mrs Adayilo as very painful, noting that she was very committed to the success of the FCT Administration.
“It’s unfortunate; God gives and God takes. There is nothing we can do. That’s why when you have the opportunity, you do the best you can because you don’t know the day your creator will call you”, the Minister said, sorrowfully.
Earlier In his remarks, Director General of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, said the FCT Minister's initiative to build the facility aligns with President Tinubu's vision for sports in the country.
Dikko noted that Nigeria’s focus on international competitions over the years has led to the neglect of its domestic sports ecosystem, particularly grassroots development and commended the FCT Minister for investing in the project, while also pledging the commission's full support for the initiative.
The DG, while also noting that many African nations were heavily investing in sports infrastructure, added that the National Sports Commission plans to develop 40 similar centers across Nigeria, with one of them to be located in Abuja.
"What you are doing here is clearly what we want to happen everywhere in the country because sports is also about security," Dikko said. "If you engage the youth, you provide them a platform to engage their energy and they can live their dreams and be the best that they could be".
The DG equally disclosed that the commission has submitted a bid for Abuja to host the Commonwealth Games, and expressed the belief that the new sports center will be a major asset in defending the bid, even as he praised the FCT Minister for swiftly approving the mandate letter for the event.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, praised President Tinubu’s commitment to youth empowerment and infrastructure development. She also applauded Barr. Wike's visionary leadership, stating that the project is "not just creating a structure, but creating possibilities".
The Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, while providing an overview of the project, said it sits on a 5.7-hectare plot and will include a standard football pitch, nine mini-pitches, four lawn tennis courts, basketball courts, a squash building, an indoor sports court, and various supporting facilities.
Engr. Dauda added that the project, during its construction phase, will create employment opportunities both directly and indirectly and when completed, will provide facilities for maintaining the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of the teaming population of the residents of the city.

Politics › Rivers LG Election: Wike Casts His Vote At Obia/Akpor LG by CapitalLens(op): 6:46pm On Aug 30, 2025 |
Rivers LG Election: Wike Casts His Vote At Obia/Akpor LG FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, today cast his vote at Polling Unit 007, Ward 9 (Rumuepirikom Kingdom), Obia/Akpor LG, on Saturday.
Addressing journalists after casting his vote, Barr. Wike commended the people of the state for turning out in large numbers to participate in the ongoing local government election.
He said the reported low turnout of people in the commercial areas was not unusual, stressing that the residential areas was where the main actions took place.
According to him, “I want to thank RSIEC for carrying out a successful conduct of local government elections. Let me make it clear that this is a local government election and I expect particularly the media to have done their homework very well in knowing where the residential areas and commercial areas are.
“When you go to commercial areas, you don’t expect a large turnout of people but when you go to residential areas, of course, you expect people to turn out.
“This is my community, I can see the turn out of people in this particular unit, so it is in other units.
“But If you go to where you have commercial activities, you don’t expect much people,” he said.
He also hailed President Bola Tinubu for making sure that the election was conducted, saying; "since the Supreme Court has said there is nothing like caretaker committees in local governments, if there are no elected people, funds will not come from the Federation accounts to the local government accounts. So, if the emergency rule is lifted and there is no local government election, we will still have the same problem."
The Rivers LG elections held today months after the Supreme Court nullified the Local Government elections conducted by suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminialayi Fubara in October 2024.

…SAYS IT FULFILS PRESIDENT TINUBU’S PROMISE TO FCT SATELLITE TOWNSIn continuation of the strategic efforts to provide clean and potable water to residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has flagged off Lot 2: Karu water supply project within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the FCT Minister said, the project, which includes the installation of a 194-kilometer network of water pipelines, directly fulfills President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to extend essential infrastructure, particularly, clean drinking water, to FCT satellite towns.
The Minister emphasized the administration’s commitment to this goal, noting that similar projects were already underway in Bwari, with plans to extend to Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali and Abaji before the end of the President’s first term in office.
He described the project as a fundamental need for the people and a priority for President Tinubu, who has already approved the disbursement of 50 percent of the contract sum to ensure its timely completion.
The Minister said, “This is one of the promises made by Mr. President when he commissioned the Greater Abuja Water Supply Scheme in June. He said he was also going to do this in the satellite towns and we have started with Bwari Area Council and AMAC.
“By the grace of God, by next year we will get to Kuje and Gwagwalada and, before Mr. President completes his first tenure, we would have gotten down to Kwali and Abaji. So, Mr. President would have fulfilled the promises he made in providing potable, clean water to satellite towns”.
Barr. Wike appealed to community leaders and youth to support the contractor, China Geoengineering Construction (CGC), who, he said, has committed to completing the project by June 2026. He highlighted the health benefits of treated water, saying, "You will no longer depend on digging your own borehole, drinking water that is not treated. Now you are going to drink water that is going to give you good health".
The FCT Minister, who stressed the commitment of the current administration to the development of the FCT satellite towns, further noted other key infrastructure initiatives in the region, including the recent rehabilitation of a 17-kilometer access road connecting Karu, Jikwoyi, Orozo, Kurudu, and Karshi and pledged to reconstruct a two-kilometer road within the Karu site area.
“Because we did not commission this road, many of you have forgotten that this 17 km road from Karu to Karshi was not passable. We did it. Now again, we are here to provide water for Karu, Orozo, Kurudu and other neighbouring communities”, the Minister said.
He noted that previous administrations had occupied office for more than a decade without making much impact on the satellite communities and urged the residents to align with those with a track record of performance, citing the achievements of Senator Aduda and the AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu.
He said, “Don’t listen to those who will come with promises, They had all the opportunities and they couldn’t do it. It is late now. We have an opportunity and we have come to do it. Support those who have the capacity to bring something to the people. Don’t support those who go on television to talk with nothing to show”, the Minister stressed.
Earlier in her vote of thanks, the Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud described the Karu water project as the beginning of a new chapter of hope, health and prosperity, stressing that the project is not just about the provision of water but also a symbol of progress. She called for the safeguarding of water infrastructure for the present and future generations.
Dr Mahmoud praised the Renewed Hope Agenda and thanked President Tinubu for his unwavering support for the FCT Administration, while also extending appreciation to the FCT Minister, the Area Council Chairmen and other stakeholders for their dedication and commitment to the development of the FCT.
Providing an overview of the Lot 2 Karu water project, the Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, explained that the construction and expansion of water supply in FCT satellite towns is a strategic infrastructure initiative that aligns with the FCT regional Masterplan, which provides for the concurrent development of both the Federal Capital City and its satellite towns.
Engr. Dauda noted that the Karu water project is an extension of the recently commissioned Greater Abuja Water Supply Project with a similar initiative recently embarked upon in Bwari, with provisions for other satellite towns to be addressed in due course.
He said the project, which is slated for completion next year, will establish the essential secondary and tertiary distribution network for the effective supply of water to the large population of Karu town and its environs.
The Executive Secretary also emphasized the broader benefits of the project, stressing that it will create both direct and indirect employment opportunities during the construction phase. He said the project, once completed, will provide safe, potable water to the residents of Karu, Kurudu, Jikwoyi, Orozo, and other surrounding communities under the Abuja Municipal Area Council.

Politics › Wike Flags Off Bwari Township Water Supply Project by CapitalLens(op): 5:24am On Aug 21, 2025 |
…PLEDGES POTABLE WATER FOR ALL FCT AREA COUNCILS BY 2027In a significant step towards ensuring improved access to clean and potable water in all satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has flagged off Lot 1 of the Bwari township water supply project.
The Bwari water supply project is a crucial undertaking, involving the installation of a 198-kilometer network of pipes and this new infrastructure will provide clean drinking water to Bwari and its surrounding communities, including Ushafa, Kuchiko, and Kuduru.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, Barrister Wike reiterated the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to providing clean water for all FCT residents.
He announced that President Tinubu has approved the immediate release of 50% of the contract sum for both the Bwari and the upcoming Karu water projects to ensure their timely completion, assuring that both projects were scheduled for completion and inauguration during President Tinubu’s third anniversary celebration in May, 2026.
Barrister Wike also unveiled a strategic timeline for future projects, revealing that water projects for the Kuje, Kwali, and Gwagwalada Area Councils will be included in the FCT’s 2026 statutory budget, confidently stating that all six Area Councils in the FCT would have access to clean, potable water by the time President Tinubu’s first term concludes in 2027.
“Today, we are in Bwari. Tomorrow, we will be in Karu, in essence, taking two Area Councils together. By the time we finish with Bwari and Karu, in next year’s budget, by the grace of God, we will go to Kuje and Kwali. By 2027, by the grace of God, we will be talking about Gwagwalada and Abaji. By the time Mr. President’s four-year tenure expires, we would have touched all the satellite towns by providing them clean, potable water.
“Of course this will save you the cost of digging your own borehole, providing of pipes and the rest. All you would need to do is to just link up to the various pipe networks and then the water will flow, clean and treated water. Unlike the one from your borehole, this is fully treated water”.
Barrister Wike while noting that the execution phase of the water projects will provide direct and indirect employment for the teeming youths of the FCT, appealed to the relevant stakeholders, including the traditional rulers and other community members, to take ownership of the projects and give the needed support to the contractors, emphasizing that water is a fundamental human need.
He said, “I appeal to the traditional rulers, I appeal to our youth, I appeal to our women, I appeal to all our community members to take this project as your own project. This is the first time a government has said that you too deserve to have potable clean water because water is life, not just saying it but implementing it. “I think this is even more important than the road projects you have protected when the contractors are on site. If you can protect contractors when they are constructing roads, you can imagine what you will do as regards the supply of water, which is one of the basic needs in life. So, I urge you to collaborate and support the company so that we can achieve this on record time”.
The Minister assured that the project would be pursued to its conclusion without being abandoned, in fulfilment of the promises made by the President to the people of the FCT and urged the residents to continue supporting the President.
He said, “We have agreed that we are going to bring water and we are bringing water. When I come back to say we have performed, you too you will perform. So, when the President has done for you, when it is your own turn too, do for the President”.
In her vote of thanks, the Minister of State FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud described the Bwari water township project as history in the making, emphasizing that the project is more than just laying pipes, but about improving the quality of life of families, ensuring children grow up healthier, and providing clean, safe water for mothers.
Dr Mahmoud expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for his consistent support to the FCT Administration and the FCT Minister for his visionary leadership and dedication to the development of the FCT, while also thanking the Area Council Chairmen and other stakeholders for their continued support
Giving the Project overview earlier, the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda had said that the expansion of water supply to FCT satellite town project was a strategic infrastructure initiative aligned with the FCT regional masterplan, which provides for the development of FCT satellite towns concurrently with the development of the FCT City Centre, adding that the project is designed to improve portable water supply to FCT residents.
“In the concept of the FCT regional masterplan, the project is intended to construct and expand the provision of portable water to the satellite towns. Today its Bwari, tomorrow, Karu. Provision to other satellite towns will be made in due course.
"The project provides essential secondary and tertiary distribution network for effective supply of portable water to the teeming populace of Bwari and its environs. The network is an extension of the recently commissioned Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, he stated.
Engr. Dauda said the scope of work of the project include, among other things, the supply and installation of 198 km of various types and sizes of pipes, adding that the project will create job opportunities and provide portable water to not only Bwari town but neighbouring communities like Ushafa, Kuchiko, Kuduru, improving the health and socio-economic well-being of the people of the area while urging benefitting communities to cooperate with the contractor to ensure a hitch free project execution and timely delivery.
In his commitment note, the Deputy Managing Director, CGC Nigeria Limited (the contractor handling the project), Lv Haiming, assured that the project would be executed without delay, to save the people of Bwari the hardship of having to dig boreholes or spend so much money to buy water, saying, when completed, residents will enjoy clean potable water.

Politics › Wike Commissions Rehabilitated Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant by CapitalLens(op): 7:45pm On Aug 19, 2025 |
…SAYS FCTA’s IGR HAS RISEN TO N30 BILLION FROM N9 BILLION MONTHLYAs part of efforts to improve water supply in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister of FCT, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has commissioned the rehabilitated Phase II Water Treatment Plant at the Lower Usuma Dam in Bwari Area Council.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Barrister Wike said the project, originally awarded in 2022 at a cost of N50 billion, was completed under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which underscores government's commitment to providing critical infrastructure and essential services in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Minister explained that the rehabilitation of Phase II of the Lower Usuma Dam water treatment plant will increase the plant's carrying capacity and improve the supply of clean and potable water to the residents of the FCT.
Barr. Wike said, "Water is life, and it is an essential service that we must provide for the residents of Abuja. This project is crucial because it increases the carrying capacity of the plant and will improve the supply of clean and potable water to our people".
Speaking on the strategic investments by government to boost water supply in the FCT, Barrister Wike also disclosed that the Federal Executive Council recently awarded contracts for the rehabilitation of Phases I, III, and IV of the Lower Usuma Dam water treatment plants, stressing that the extensive effort is part of a broader strategy to ensure a stable and reliable water supply across the entire FCT.
Furthermore, the Minister highlighted the FCT Administration's focus on satellite towns, with the upcoming flag-off of new water projects in Bwari and Karu. These projects, costing over N90 billion, the Minister said, are designed to extend essential services beyond the city center and improve the quality of life for residents in these communities.
Barrister Wike equally dispelled claims that his administration was focusing solely on road projects, citing ongoing projects in the education sector, including the rehabilitation of schools in rural communities and the various ongoing water supply projects.
“I have told the Mandate Secretary of Education to release the number of schools in the entire FCT, under the President Tinubu administration, that we have completed rehabilitation and all the ongoing ones. I believe by the time that list is released, Nigerians will know what we have done in the education sector”, the Minister stated.
He noted a significant increase in the FCT’s monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) from N9 billion to N30 billion, which has enabled the payment of contractors and the funding of new projects.
“When we came on board, we had a monthly IGR of N9 billion, but as we speak today, by the grace of God, every month, we are generating not less than N30 billion. Now we have come here to commission this project. If we were not saving this money, would we have paid the contractors? The Federal Government has approved the rehabilitation of phase one, three and phase four. If we were not saving funds, we wouldn't be providing water to Bwari, Karu and other satellite towns”.
Barrister Wike, while addressing issues of development and accountability in the award of contracts, vowed to fight corruption and ensure that public funds are used judiciously for the benefit of the people.
“People are complaining that all projects in Abuja were abandoned; why would it not be abandoned when funds that are meant for development are channeled towards unnecessary things. Let us work for our people and change lives. Buying computers every year will not help us. Going to America for a conference on land administration will not help. What will help is the development of our people, the development of our communities, providing roads, providing schools, providing water and providing security. That is what is important”.
Reacting to recent media reports and protests over the alleged debts owed to indigenous contractors by the FCTA, the Minister said no amount of blackmail or intimidation will deter his administration from its core mission.
He challenged those making allegations about unpaid local contractors to produce documentation proving he awarded the contracts, asserting that he will not be pressured to pay for projects he did not approve.
The Minister made it clear that the issue was a result of indiscipline and a deeply entrenched culture of corruption, stressing that many of the contracts were allegedly awarded by civil servants without his knowledge or approval.
He said the claims of unpaid bills were a manifestation of corruption fighting back against efforts to reform the system and vowed to defeat corruption, adding that it would not be business as usual.
“The problem in this country is that when you want to fight corruption, corruption will fight you back and it’s corruption that is fighting back and we are going to defeat corruption.
“The bane of our problem is indiscipline. I came on board to meet complaints that indigenous contractors and local contractors were being owed billions of naira. I said who awarded these contracts. Civil servants stay in their offices and award contracts of various sums without the Minister knowing. Then you will be a Minister sitting in the office and people will tell you that you are owing N15 billion when you don’t know when it was awarded”, he said.
“Certainly, it will not happen. Nobody can intimidate me on that”, he stressed, adding, “If I award contracts, I will pay and those who know me know that I don’t award contracts when we don’t have money. We must do things right. That it was not done right yesterday does not mean it will not be done right today. People must know that it cannot continue to be business as usual. You cannot embarrass me. Go and meet those who awarded those contracts to you and tell them your children are out of school”.
Looking ahead, the Minister outlined his vision for Abuja’s development, which prioritizes capital projects over recurrent expenditure, stressing that his goal is to ensure that FCT residents feel the tangible impact of the current administration.
The Minister stressed that his administration remains focused on creating a legacy of growth and positive change, vowing that he will leave office with his head held high, having fulfilled his commitment to transform the FCT for the better.
Earlier in her vote of thanks, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, expressed joy at the completion of phase II of the Lower Usuma Dam Water treatment plant, describing it as a major milestone, while thanking President Tinubu for his unwavering support for infrastructural renewal. She also emphasized the importance of maintaining the new infrastructure for the benefit of current and future generations.
Providing an overview of the project, the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda said the rehabilitation exercise focused on the phase II water treatment plant, originally built in 2000, which had been at risk of collapse due to aging.
He said the rehabilitation work for the plant with a capacity of 5000 cubic meters of water per hour was initiated to prevent a potential health crisis and ensure the continued provision of safe drinking water to Abuja residents.
The extensive work, he explained, included the repair and replacement of equipment in the inlet pump station, clarifiers and filters, as well as significant upgrades made to electromechanical and chemical systems, the water testing laboratory and the power infrastructure, including replacement of backup generators.
He said with the completion of these works, the plant has been fully restored to its original capacity of 5000 cubic meters per hour and is now ready for use, adding that it will also enhance the overall water supply network and ensure that the water quality meets international standards https://abujadigest.info/stories/news/fct-minister-commissions-rehabilitated-lower-usuma-dam-water-treatment-plant/

Politics › Wike Inaugurates Two Committees To Tackle Land Use Violations by CapitalLens(op): 8:14pm On Aug 08, 2025 |
…SAYS ENFORCEMENT ON GROUND RENT DEFAULTERS TO COMMENCE SOON
As part of measures to tackle various land use violations and other issues in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, on Friday, August 8, 2025, inaugurated two significant ad-hoc committees with a two-week timeframe to review the issues and submit recommendations.
The committees, one, on the review of controversies surrounding River Park Estate, and the other on the review of Land use/purpose clauses of land and properties at locations overtaken by commercial and other activities, were also charged to discharge their duties with utmost professionalism.
Inaugurating the committees, Barrister Wike emphasized their significance in streamlining the FCT Administration's services and restoring order to the city's development, stressing that their work must be impartial and free from any external or internal influence.
Explaining the terms of reference of the Committee on the River Park Estate, which is chaired by the General Counsel/Secretary of the Legal Services Secretariat, Barrister Salman Dako, the Minister said the Committee will review the issues surrounding the estate and investigate reported violations of the agreements made between the FCT Administration and the developers of the mass housing project.
The Minister said, “The first Committee has to do with the issues that cropped up in the River Park Estate. Sometimes, government will give out letters of intent to those that will say they want to develop mass housing and government will always have an agreement or what you may call Memorandum of Understanding. We find out in most cases that these agreements are being violated. So, this Committee is to look into the issues that have to do with River Park Estate and advise the government on the necessary steps to take in order to correct some of these anomalies.
“The assignment must be concluded in two weeks. There will be no extension of time. So, if it requires you to sit from morning till night, may it be so. We are not going to delay.
“And let me warn that it must be done professionally. I don’t want to hear of any issue of influence from outside. If I hear that somebody has interest, be it from outside or from the FCTA, particularly AGIS and Land Administration Department, you know the consequences of it. So, it must be done strictly and anywhere you require assistance, let me know. If there is any Department that is trying to obstruct you from getting information, let me know in time”, Barr. Wike stressed.
Regarding the second committee on Land Uses/Purpose Clauses of Land properties at Locations overtaken by commercial and other activities, headed by the Director of Development Control, Town planner Mukhtar Galadima, the FCT Minister disclosed that it will focus on widespread land use violations in the FCT.
The committee, he stated, will identify properties where the original purpose outlined in the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O), such as residential use, has been illegally converted to commercial activities and vice versa, without government approval.
The Minister highlighted that these violations have deviated from the Abuja master plan, stressing that the committee's recommendations will help the government determine appropriate actions, which could range from outright revocation of land titles to levying penalties and charging for formal land use conversion.
He said, "If You have a C of O that its purpose is for residential, but go there today, it’s turned to commercial and that of course is in violation of the certificate that was issued to you, this Committee is to identify all those areas that are in violation of the use of the Certificate of Occupancy as given to residents. ….and recommend to government what appropriate step to be taken, so that we comply with the rules or to the guidelines that were given. It’s very important to us. Are we going to say outright revocation for not complying with the provisions in the C of O or there will be a penalty and then you ask for conversion and pay the appropriate fee?”
“So, the Committee will have to advise government, and this will be done within two weeks, because when you give long time, there will be no commitment to the work. I believe that the Committee should come up with a robust recommendation of what government is to do”, the Minister stated.
In addition to inaugurating the committees, Barr. Wike also directed the heads of relevant departments, including Lands, AGIS, Development Control, and Urban and Regional Planning, to immediately provide a comprehensive list of all defaulters on ground rent payments, including those from 2024 and 2025, for enforcement.
The Minister who underscored the urgency of the action, explained that generating revenue from outstanding ground rent was vital to the funding of critical infrastructure projects in the 2025 budget, which he revealed has been assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“So, all those that are owing, from the ones that have been published and the ones that are owing from 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, we have to provide it so that we start immediate implementation in order to receive funds that will aid us in the development of infrastructure.
“The 2025 budget of the FCT, which has been assented to by Mr. President, has been submitted to us without funds. There is no way you can embark on projects that will have positive impacts on the lives of our people without funds. So, please – Director Lands, AGIS, Development Control, Urban and Regional Planning, make sure that you work very tirelessly to see that this result is achieved”, the Minister said.

Politics › Wike Stresses On Giving Back To Alma Mater, As He Bags Honorary Doctorate by CapitalLens(op): 8:05pm On Jul 26, 2025 |
.... COMMISSIONS NEW UNIPORT CONVOCATION ARENA, NAMED IN HIS HONOUR
The FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has stressed the importance of giving back to alma mater, saying that, “they helped shape the persons we have become”.
The Minister made the emphasis in his acceptance speech after being conferred with an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) Honoris Causa in Political Science, degree, by his Alma mater - the University of Port Harcourt at the 35th convocation and 50th anniversary of the University on Saturday, July 26, 2025 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

...As he commissions over 16km road in Bwari Area CouncilPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that indigenous contractors within the country can compete with the best anywhere in the world if given the opportunity and the necessary support to succeed.
President Tinubu made the assertion in Abuja on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, while commissioning the upgraded 16.4 kilometers Ushafa, War College, Army Check and other Ancillary Roads within the Bwari Area Council in the FCT.
Represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu stated that the execution of the project by an indigenous contractor, Abdul Val Nigeria Limited, showcases the capability of the Nigerian spirit to deliver excellence.
He added that the award of the contract to an indigenous firm was part of the deliberate policies of the Federal Government to build the capacity of local contractors.
According to him, “This entire project was awarded to an indigenous contractor and that decision by the FCT Administration was deliberate.
"It was born out of our belief in the competence, resilience and ingenuity of the Nigerian professionals and businesses.
"We are not just building roads, we are building capacity. We are creating jobs. We are fostering a sense of ownership and pride within our communities.
"And above all, we are demonstrating unequivocally that, given the right environment, Nigerian contractors can deliver infrastructure that rivals the best in the world" President Tinubu stressed.
He described the completion of the project as a success story of development, saying it is a clear declaration that the Nigerian spirit is alive, capable, and ready to deliver excellence.
He said the dualized and upgraded roads will alleviate traffic congestion, stimulate economic activities, improve access to education and healthcare, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents of Ushafa, Bwari, and surrounding communities.
President Tinubu further reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to developing a modern and functional capital city where every district, council, and ward is connected and empowered, stating, “No part of the FCT is going to be relegated. Development must be all-encompassing. It is only then that we can say with confidence that Abuja works. And indeed, Abuja is working”
He added that the completion of the road and numerous others across the nation, is a tangible expression of the commitment of the government to inclusive growth and sustainable development and called on all Nigerians to join hands with the government in building a Nigeria where every business thrives and every citizen enjoys a life of dignity and opportunity.
The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, for his dedication to ensuring that no community in the FCT is left behind, stressing, “His vision of an integrated capital city where development is not confined to the city centre, but extended to the suburbs and satellite communities, aligns perfectly with the Abuja masterplan”.
Earlier, FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, had expressed profound gratitude to President Tinubu for his unprecedented commitment to the development of the satellite towns, saying that it was the first time a sitting President, Vice President, or other high-ranking officials had visited an Area Council to commission a project.
"This is the first time a sitting President, a Vice President will go to the Satellite Towns to identify with them, to tell the people of the Satellite Towns that as we care for the city, so also we care for you. It is unprecedented. It has never happened. And this shows the love you have for the Satellite Towns residents. I want to thank you most sincerely”, Barrister Wike stated.
He said the completion of the road will significantly ease commuting for residents living in satellite towns, enabling them to access the city with relative ease.
The FCT Minister acknowledged his initial doubts about the capacity of the indigenous contractor, Abdul val Nigeria Limited, for a project of this magnitude, and stated that he became convinced only after personally visiting the site and observing the company’s equipment.
“I personally visited the site multiple times — on Sundays, Saturdays, over 15 times — to ensure the job was done. And today, the road is ready for commissioning”, the Minister said
He stressed the administration’s commitment to promoting local content, saying the successful delivery of the project by a local contractor reinforces trust in the capacity of Nigerians when properly supported.
Barr. Wike also applauded the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, describing the young appointee as hardworking and resilient. “He has not had one full night of sleep since this project started. I thank him, and if he has a wife, I apologize to her,” the Minister remarked.
The Minister did not hold back in his scathing attack of those he described as expired politicians who have refused to see anything good in the current administration, saying that the government will continue to showcase its achievements for all to see. According to him, “A lot of people, like those who don't have vision, who are politically expired, like those since 1999, they have belonged to over ten political parties. Let them see what we are doing. I thank God Today is the 15th day. I thank God. Wherever they are, whichever TV channel they want to watch, they will see Mr. President, what you are doing every day”.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mariya Mahmoud extended gratitude to President Tinubu, the National Assembly and the FCT Minister for their vision and dedication to the development of the FCT and improving the living condition of those in the rural areas.

Represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. We believe that good governance is not theory, it is action, reflected in the daily lives of the people”. The President highlighted his government's resolve to deliver essential infrastructure – roads, schools, hospitals, power, and digital access – not just in the city centers but also in the smaller communities that form the backbone of the nation.

"This is not the end of the road, but it is the beginning. More projects will come, investments will reach you, and attention will be given to your needs, for every Nigerian deserves development no matter where they live", he said.
President Tinubu commended the FCT Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and the contractors for delivering the project in time and according to specification while also praising the AMAC leadership for prioritizing this crucial intervention.
Earlier, FCT Minister Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike had expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his consistent support to the FCT Administration.

He praised the youth of Ketti for their support to the contractors, which facilitated timely completion.

…COMMISERATES WITH BENUE STATE OVER RECENT KILLINGSPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, June 16, 2025, officially commissioned the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, a landmark project designed to significantly enhance water provision across Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In his address at the ceremony, President Tinubu commended the FCT Administration for its dedication to delivering vital infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of citizens and lauded the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for exemplifying strong leadership and a deep consciousness of the people's needs.
According to President Tinubu, “This water infrastructure is not only a technical milestone; it is a moral one because it is about equity. It is about ensuring that no part of Abuja is left behind in our national developmental agenda. It's a renewed hope".
The President further highlighted his administration's commitment to accelerating growth, prosperity, and the delivery of reliable infrastructure, including human capacity development. He said: “When we speak of the Renewed Hope Agenda, this is what we mean – tangible, people-focused projects that improve daily life. Water to drink, to clean, to grow, to build. That is real progress.
“We are not just laying pipes – we are laying the groundwork for healthier families, stronger communities and a productive city. “As your President, I remain deeply committed to accelerating infrastructure delivery, especially in critical sectors like water, power, roads and housing. These are not only developmental goals – they are the building blocks of dignity”.
President Tinubu expressed gratitude to international partners, especially the People's Republic of China, for their invaluable support, saying "Together, we are showing the world that partnership built on mutual respect and shared prosperity can deliver real impact".
He urged residents and stakeholders to protect the investment, use water wisely, and collaborate with the government to ensure its sustainability.
The President also used the occasion to extend his deepest sympathies to the people of Benue State over the recent killings of about 200 people, pledging a visit to the State on Wednesday while calling for peace and harmony.
“While I sympathize with the Benue people, I’ve spoken to the Governor; the leadership and people of Benue should accept our condolences and try very consciously to maintain peace and harmony among themselves.
“I’ve always said that we are one single huge family living in the same house, in different rooms… We should be able to manage our anger and frustrations. I sympathize with those who have lost their lives. I will adjust my programme and go see Benue people on Wednesday”, President Tinubu stated.
Earlier in his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, recalled President Tinubu’s directive to prioritize the completion of the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, among others, and expressed profound appreciation to the President and the National Assembly for their consistent support.
Barr. Wike explained that the project, awarded in 2017 at a cost of $470 million under the Partnership of African Development Initiative, was 85% funded by the Chinese government, with the remaining 15% covered by the Federal Government and the FCT Administration for Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6.
"We want to sincerely thank you that under this administration, this job has been completed and today you are commissioning the Greater Abuja Water supply network," Barr. Wike stated.
He also announced that procurement is underway for a new agreement with Chinese overseas construction giant, CGC, to extend water provision to rural areas and satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu, and assured of its timely completion.
Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Zhang Yi, while also offering congratulatory remarks to Nigeria’s Federal Government, said the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, financed majorly by the China Exim Bank, symbolizes the strong friendship and consistent support between Nigeria and the China.
He added that the completion of the project had tripled the city's daily water capacity, providing clean and reliable drinking water to FCT residents.
The Greater Abuja Water Supply project involves the construction of extensive water supply pipe networks, specifically Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6, which are set to improve water access for 50 districts within the FCT, aligning with the city's masterplan.

adams123: How can the whole fg commissioning 15km road project?? This road is about 35km from Apo to Karshi and they are commissioning 15km of it done? I think this is madness Though linked to the OSEX by WASA Junction, the Apo Karshi road is an entirely different project. The OSEX, on full development, will pass through Kuje to connect with the Federal Highway A2 ( Abuja/Lokoja expressway) in Gwagwalada. The project is being developed in stages. What was commissioned today is the 15km stretch of the left hand service carriageway from Ring road 1 (Apo interchange) to Wasa junction. |
Politics › President Tinubu Commissions 15km Osex Service Carriageway by CapitalLens(op): 8:31pm On Jun 13, 2025 |
LAUDS FCT MINISTER OVER PROJECTS DELIVERYPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, and his dedicated team for the successful completion and delivery of 17 vital infrastructure projects within the FCT to commemorate his second year in office.
The commendation came during the commissioning of the 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), stretching from Ring Road I to Wasa Junction in Abuja.
President Tinubu, who was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio also applauded the FCT Minister for his unwavering commitment to providing essential infrastructure that positively impacts the lives of FCT residents.
He described the OSEX as Abuja’s crucial transport backbone, emphasizing its role in connecting the city center to rapidly expanding districts such as Apo, Lokogoma, Gudu, Wumba, and Wasa, thereby significantly enhancing urban mobility.
"This road, stretching from Ring Road I all the way to Wasa Junction, is a significant addition to the road networks in the heart of Abuja. This vital infrastructure demonstrates our commitment to sustainable urban development, enhanced mobility, and improved quality of life for the people of the FCT and by extension, to all Nigerians and visitors alike", President Tinubu stated.
The President also praised the impressive quality of work on the OSEX and acknowledged the Minister's efforts to relocate the Apo Mechanic Village traders, expressing confidence that the exercise would be brought to a successful conclusion.
He further commended the surrounding communities for their patience and support during the construction phase, urging FCT residents to protect the new infrastructure.
“I commend the FCT Administration led by the Hon. Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike and the contractor, Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited for the impressive feat and quality of work. Through Wike’s leadership, uncompleted projects have been reactivated and delivered with discipline, quality and timeously. Like the Minister described, they had to cut through the rock for 5 kilometers in order to bring about this road.
“The Minister has also promised the mechanic village that has been here since 1991, that they will be relocated and they said they are happy. They expressed it by answering it. If there is something I know about you; it’s the fact that you don’t like anybody breaking agreements. Agreement is agreement. So, today you have an agreement with the good people of the FCT. Remain focused and continue to deliver. Nobody will remember you for the way you answered your critics. They will only remember you for the legacies you are leaving on ground”, the President added.
Speaking earlier, the FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike expressed gratitude for President Tinubu's personal commitment and presence at the commissioning of completed projects in the FCT.
He reaffirmed the FCT Administration's dedication to completing all ongoing projects in line with the President's Renewed Hope Agenda, crediting the support from the President and the National Assembly for the successes achieved thus far.
Barrister Wike stated that the OSEX road project has already improved connectivity within the FCT, allowing easier access from Wasa to Takushara and Ketti, in the Abuja Municipal Area Council. While committing to the dualisation of the main OSEX carriageways, the FCT Minister equally pledged to personally supervise and ensure the relocation of the Apo Mechanic Village along the road corridor.
He said, "Mr. President, as I speak to you, where we are sitting now, we are going to dualize this road to finally address anything about traffic in this area. Secondly, we have told the Mechanic Village; they said since 2011, they have promised them they will relocate them. Ours is not a promise. Ours is that we are going to do it. I will supervise it, I will chair the relocation"
Addressing critics, the Minister defended the rehabilitation of the International Conference Centre and its renaming after the President, asserting that the FCTA aims for the best for the country and that President Tinubu demonstrated strong leadership in ensuring its restoration.
"We want the best for the country and the President has given the best to the country...If you are not happy that we named it after Mr. President, go and kill yourself. I have done it and I have no regret", Barr. Wike stressed.

Politics › President Tinubu Lauds Wike's Exemplary Handling Of Compensation Issues by CapitalLens(op): 7:21pm On Jun 11, 2025*. Modified: 7:39pm On Jun 11, 2025 |
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly commended the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for his exceptional leadership in the peaceful relocation and generous compensation of indigenous communities affected by the construction of the newly commissioned Arterial Road N16.
The President's commendation came during the commissioning ceremony of the vital infrastructure project in Abuja.
The Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way), a crucial link between the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway and Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) within the Jahi District, was officially opened by President Tinubu.
While emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development for national growth, President Tinubu singled out Minister Wike and his team for their collaborative approach, which ensured that development proceeded without displacing the indigenous population.
"They told me how cooperative you were and you collaborated with the FCT Minister and respectively, you have been relocated. Not that we grabbed the land," President Tinubu stated, addressing traditional rulers present at the event. He further added, "Like any government, we want development. But how well we organize and execute them depends on us. Of course, we are here because of the trust you have in us. Thank you very much for your cooperation. And we thank the Minister of FCT too, for relocating your community with peace and good compensation."
This acknowledgement highlights a significant shift in addressing land acquisition for public projects, with the Tinubu administration prioritizing fair treatment and community engagement.
Minister Wike, in his remarks, shed light on the FCT Administration's proactive measures in this regard. He revealed that communities along the road corridor received an unprecedented 200 percent compensation for their land. "For the first time, the communities on the road corridor were paid their compensation 200 per cent. I said look, I don't want anything that will stop the construction of this road," Barrister Wike affirmed. He further elaborated, "And when they were paid, I made sure that they were given other areas to go and live."
This decisive action, according to the Minister, not only facilitated seamless project execution but also boosted contractor confidence, leading to timely project completion. The Arterial Road N16 project, awarded just last October, stands as a testament to this renewed trust and efficiency.
The Minister of State, FCT, Dr. Mahmoud, in her remarks during the commissioning ceremony, also lauded President Tinubu's unwavering support and Barrister Wike's visionary leadership in transforming Abuja's infrastructure landscape.
Acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, while presenting a technical brief of the project, said the Arterial Road N16, a six-lane dual carriageway spanning approximately 3.7 kilometers, and is expected to significantly improve connectivity between key districts like Maitama, Katampe, and Jahi.
President Tinubu's commendation of Barrister Wike underscores a commitment to equitable development, where progress is achieved hand-in-hand with the welfare and rights of all citizens, particularly indigenous communities. This approach sets a new benchmark for infrastructure development across Nigeria.

Politics › We Are Taking Bold, Decisive Actions To Revitalize Abuja – Wike by CapitalLens(op): 6:49am On Jun 03, 2025 |
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has affirmed the current administration's commitment to making difficult but necessary decisions to transform Abuja, regardless of entrenched interests.
Speaking at a monthly media chat held at his Life Camp Official Residence on Monday, June 2, 2025, Barrister Wike emphasized that the FCT is now "working" due to a willingness to address long-standing issues that his predecessors shied away from.
The Minister described the current administration as having the courage to "annoy people" and "step on toes" in the pursuit of good governance. He stated, "People had said that FCT was not working and now FCT is working. I’m doing things that they refused to do. I have found out that most of them didn’t have the courage to annoy people, to step on toes."
The Minister further elaborated on his approach, expressing satisfaction in holding powerful individuals accountable. "I take joy when I step on the toes of big men. Those who say that nothing will happen, I take joy in saying that something will happen. All you want me to do is to take decisions against the poor people, but you the rich man, nothing will happen. Something will happen and that’s why we are getting results. If you don’t do the right thing, too bad. I don’t care. The only person I owe an explanation to is Mr. President."
Barrister Wike stressed that his decisions are driven solely by a commitment to good governance and national progress, rather than any regional or religious affiliations. "I’m not doing it because I’m from a certain place or I belong to a certain religion. I’m doing it because I have to support the government, I have to make a difference," he said.
The Minister also reiterated the FCTA's firm stance on collecting outstanding ground rents, some dating back 30 years, to combat impunity and ensure the availability of funds for infrastructure development. He dismissed claims of insufficient notice, stating that the condition for ground rent payment is clearly outlined in title grants.
He challenged those complaining about the enforcement to acknowledge and pay up their ground rent arrears, emphasizing that without revenue, essential infrastructure cannot be provided.
Speaking on the upcoming project commissioning spree in the FCT to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second year anniversary, the Minister announced an ambitious 19-day program, commencing on June 10th. He said President Tinubu is expected to personally commission some key projects, including the long-awaited International Conference Centre, while other senior officials will also inaugurate additional impactful initiatives. This will be followed by the flag-off of new projects slated for completion to celebrate the President's third year in office.
Addressing concerns about Transparency and Accountability in Financial Management, following the FCTA's exit from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), Barrister Wike explained that projects exceeding N10 billion require Federal Executive Council (FEC) approval, preceded by Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) assessment. Payments to contractors, he added, are milestone-based, adhering to the procurement act.
He stressed that exiting the TSA has removed bureaucratic bottlenecks, enabling the FCTA to access funding through its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and participate in the larger financial market, thereby accelerating project execution.
On efforts to improve mass transportation and bolster security, the Minister announced the provision of bus terminals in Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Business District. These terminals, he said, will be inaugurated by President Tinubu this month, with budgetary provisions for buses to be run by profiled and registered private operators, supervised by the FCT Transport Secretariat.

Politics › Wike Meets Kpaduma, Guzape Chiefs Over Road Construction Disputes by CapitalLens(op): 6:34am On Jun 03, 2025 |
The Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), on Monday, June 2, 2025, held a crucial meeting with the traditional chiefs and representatives of the Kpaduma and Guzape communities over the ongoing road construction project and the concerns raised regarding the evacuation of affected villagers.
The meeting, which took place at the FCT Minister’s conference room in Lifecamp, was convened at the instance of the Minister to address the growing tension surrounding the continued presence of residents in areas marked for development, particularly for the major road infrastructure intended to ease traffic and boost connectivity within the FCT.
During the discussion, the Honourable Minister emphasized the critical importance of the road project to the overall development plan of the capital city. He acknowledged the deep-rooted attachment the communities have to their ancestral lands but appealed for understanding, noting that government’s development efforts must sometimes involve difficult decisions.
In a bid to reach an amicable resolution, the Minister assured the chiefs and their people of government’s commitment to ensure justice and fairness.
He reiterated that every affected individual would be duly compensated and that Right of Occupancy (R of Os) for new resettlement areas would be provided without delay, as was the case with the Gishiri community in Katampe district.
"We are not here to displace anyone unjustly,” the Minister stated. “This is about building a better Abuja for all. We will ensure your people are properly compensated and given legal documents for their new homes".
The Minister, however, clarified that compensation would be paid for only the structures along the road corridor and not the entire community. He also directed that the compensation package should be doubled to ensure fairness.
"I have told the Director of Resettlement to go and make a valuation. But the rate you people are using is too small. Increase their rate. If they are earning N50, give them N100", the Minister stressed.
In response, the traditional leaders of Kpaduma and Guzape, led by the Sapeyi of Garki, Alhaji Usman Nga Kupi, expressed their appreciation to the FCT Minister for his transparency and willingness to engage them directly.
Acknowledging the development benefits the road project would bring to the area, the traditional leaders unanimously agreed to cooperate with the evacuation and resettlement process.
"We are grateful for the Honourable Minister’s assurance and the respect shown to our people. We will support this effort in the interest of peace and progress", the Sapeyi remarked.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both parties committing to ongoing dialogue and collaboration to ensure a smooth and respectful transition for all affected families.

Politics › Ortom Praises President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda by CapitalLens(op): 1:32am On May 31, 2025 |
... COMMENDS WIKE'S TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERSHIP IN THE FCT
Former Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom, on Friday, May 30, 2025, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda" and the impactful work of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, in the FCT.
The commendation came when the former Governor accompanied the FCT Minister on a routine project inspection in Abuja, undertaken to assess the progress of work on projects scheduled for commissioning to commemorate President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office.
Addressing journalists after inspecting the Kugbo and Mabushi bus terminals as well as the access road to Giri District, Dr. Ortom expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Barrister Wike as Minister of the FCT.
The former Benue State Governor emphasized the significant transformation witnessed in the FCT under Barrister Wike's tenure, noting, "I have been here as National Auditor of PDP since 2008 as a resident of the FCT. Honestly, I can tell you that in the last one year, I need a guide to take me around the FCT because of the monumental development and progress we’ve had here".
He acknowledged the challenges facing the nation but affirmed President Tinubu's commitment to national recovery. He said that the President took office at a time when the country faced significant difficulties and is now actively working to restore its stability.
"Yes, we have challenges as a country, we have challenges as a people. But truly, we can attest to the fact that Mr. President came in at a time when the country was from top to bottom. Today, he is trying to lift the country back on its feet again”, he said.
Dr Ortom highlighted President Tinubu’s inclusive approach, alluding to the appointment of Barrister Wike, a prominent member of the opposition party, as FCT Minister. This, Ortom explained, demonstrates a strategic partnership essential for the nation's well-being.
"Mr. President is looking beyond party affiliation, that is why he brought my friend and leader, Barrister Nyesom Wike, a member of the PDP, to be Minister of the FCT, despite the fact that the President won election on the platform of the APC. This is a strategic partnership because if we don’t have a country, we cannot, in anyway, have positions".
Dr. Ortom further advised President Tinubu to maintain a focus on merit and capacity, urging him to be a President for all Nigerians, not just one political party. He stressed that national progress should take precedence over partisan politics, and commended Barrister Wike for his unwavering dedication to President Tinubu’s vision and for making his friends proud.
"He should not be only APC President. He should be PDP President, he should be APGA President and President of all other political parties in this country and he should focus on merit. Those who have capacity to deliver like Minister Nyesom Wike, he should bring them on board. What Nigerians want is to make sure that we make progress. It is not about political parties. Political parties are just alphabets. What is needed is for us to make progress in this country", Ortom stressed.
Expressing his delight with the newly constructed bus terminals, Ortom, called for continued support for ongoing reforms and development initiatives of the FCT Administration.
In his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of work at the bus terminals and reiterated the administration's commitment to further reforms in the transport sector, including enhanced security measures and organized bus and taxi services.
He said, “I’m very happy with what I have seen. The first time we went there, I expressed my dismay. We have gone there today, there is a lot of improvements and by the time the day for commissioning comes and you go back there, it will be something else”.
On the proposed reforms in the transport sector, the Minister said, “Obviously, a lot of things will happen in the transport sector. There will be a lot of reforms. A Committee is working and before we get to commissioning, we will come up with our transport sector reforms because as part of security measures, we must know those who are involved in doing the taxi business and what colour so that if anything happens, we will be able to identify them.
“This time around, we are working to see that we don’t have a lot of parks on the road. And yes, it is a bus and taxi terminal, not just only bus terminal, so that those who they take to the bus terminal will board the taxis from there and go to wherever they want to go”.

Politics › Two Years Of Renewed Hope: Wike Hails President Tinubu's Achievements In FCT by CapitalLens(op): 8:48pm On May 29, 2025*. Modified: 9:05pm On May 29, 2025 |
As President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marks his second year in office today, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has lauded his "tremendous" and "unprecedented" performance, particularly in the rapid transformation of Abuja's infrastructure over the past two years.
The FCT Minister made these remarks in Abuja on Thursday, May 29, 2025, while briefing journalists, during a routine inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects slated for commissioning to commemorate the milestone.
Emphasizing the significant progress made under President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda, Barrister Wike said, "From the FCT where I superintend by his mandate, you will know that Mr. President has done very well. It’s unprecedented".
The Minister urged all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation, to acknowledge the President's tangible successes, sating, "Even if you don’t like somebody as a person, when he does a good thing, you say yes, I’m not in good terms with him, I don’t like him, but he is doing well or he has done well".
The Minister highlighted the dramatic improvements in the FCT, which he attributed to the leadership style of President Tinubu. He said, "All of us were critics that Abuja has not been working and now Abuja is working. Who has made it to work? It’s Mr. President. So, Mr. President has done very well."
Barrister Wike who was greeted by enthusiastic "four plus four" chants from FCT residents during the project inspection, interpreted the chant as a clear mandate for President Tinubu to serve another term. "What they are saying is that Mr. President has done four years and we should give him another four years," he noted, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to be part of an administration delivering on its promises.
The Minister also provided updates on several key projects all set to be inaugurated as part of the anniversary celebrations, including 15kilometres OSEX II to Wasa road connecting Apo and Wasa District, which has been fully completed as well as the Arterial Road N20 interchange across the ONEX in Jahi District, and the Collector Road CN8 (Asuquo Okon Way) in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, from Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way) to Arterial Road N1 (Olusegun Obasanjo Way), all nearing completion.
Responding to questions on the absence of streetlights on the OSEX II to Wasa road, Barrister Wike clarified that the project was initiated by a previous administration over a decade ago. However, in line with President Tinubu's commitment to continuity, the current administration is dedicated to its completion. Hence, he confirmed that a quotation for streetlights has been submitted by CGC, and while they may not be part of the upcoming inauguration, installation will proceed subsequently, to enhance security in the area. "Be rest assured that we are going to put streetlights on that OSEX II, Apo to Wasa," he affirmed.
He reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to providing the best for Abuja residents, and urged residents to also fulfill their civic obligations to support the ongoing development. "The people of Abuja deserve the best and the contractors are doing their best, I can assure you that. For me, there cannot be anything less. All we are saying is for the residents also to perform their own obligation so that we will all work together for the interest of Abuja and the entire Nigerians".
Addressing the protracted strike by primary school teachers in the FCT over the non-payment of the new minimum wage, Barrister Wike expressed deep concern, equating the denial of education to "trying to cause a coup in the country or in the FCT". He assured the public that all the issues will soon be resolved, saying, "everything is being done to see that the teachers go back to school".
The Minister also spoke on the roles of the National Assembly Committees on FCT Area Councils regarding the matter, urging them to focus on their primary responsibilities, particularly regarding the Area Councils, to help resolve the strike. The Minister said, "Nobody can feel happy that primary school teachers are at home. It’s a basic thing that we must do and I can assure you, very soon, that matter will be resolved".
