I trust Wike, he will soon deal with this El-Salem and African University of Science and Technology over this land racketeering scheme. How can you lure innocent Nigerians into a Build, Lease and transfer Agreement without full disclosure and without authorization by the FCT Administration? What manner of lawlessness is that. After getting huge land in prime location and C of O for next to nothing, you now want to subject Nigerians to untold hardship through an unlawful scheme. How can you expect a civil servant to hand over his residential accommodation which he built with his life savings, under the guise of BLT. Do you think any right thinking person will go into such agreement if they are informed? Wike should deal with these guys the same way he dealt with River Park Estate to save Nigerians from further falling prey to their dubious land scheme. |

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has sounded a note of warning to owners of Event Centres, Hotels and other public buildings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to stop offering their facilities for use by illegal organizations. The FCTA noted that allocations of lands in the FCT are strictly to carry out lawful activities, adding that "going forward, title documents of any event center, hotel or public building that is used for the gathering of illegal organizations will be revoked." This was contained in a statement on Friday, by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. "In view of the need to further ensure the security of lives and properties in the FCT and sustain the efforts of security agencies in this regard, usage of Event Centres, Hotels and other public buildings will now be closely monitored. "This is aimed at ensuring that they are not used by illegal organizations for gatherings capable of disrupting the peace of the nation's capital. "Owners of these facilities are therefore urged to take cognizance of the legality of organizations seeking to use their facilities and the purpose before letting them out. "For instance, in this political season, owners of Event Centres and Hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognised leadership of political parties in respect of the use of their facilities, and proper records of transactions must be kept. "Failure to comply with this directive will result to revocation of the title documents such properties." I'm sure the school would have provided the teacher with a guideline on how to manage the pupils under her care, including in situations like this when a child falls asleep during classroom hours. What the teacher simply needs to do in moments like this is to act according to what is prescribed by the school so as not to be seen to be acting outside the rule book. However, in rare situations where the school did not specifically spell out what actions to take when a student falls asleep during school hours, the teacher should bring it to their notice for further directives. |
- SETS UP PANEL TO INVESTIGATE GUDU BUILDING COLLAPSE, SEALS OFF PROPERTY The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is expected to commission at least 18 projects during the third anniversary celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The FCT Minister, Barr Nyesom Wike, revealed this on Monday, May 18, 2026 while addressing journalists shortly after an inspection tour of projects and the three-storey building in Gudu area of the FCT, which collapsed over the weekend. During the tour, the Minister had inspected the ongoing construction of the road and a bridge connecting the Central Business District and Wuse District. He acknowledged the efforts of the contractor, Levant Nigeria Limited, and urged them to finish the project by the first week of June rather than the middle of June. The Minister also visited the road to the Mabushi bus terminal being carried out by Setraco, as well as the Bridge Interchange connecting Jahi and Gwarimpa being constructed by CBC Global. He said, “I think we are doing quite a good job…probably towards 28 of May, we should be able to say the total number of projects that are available. But you know with the way we are going, it will not be less than 20, assuming it doesn’t get to 20, it cannot be less than 18 projects”. The Minister described the projects slated for commissioning as projects that touch the lives of residents of the FCT. “We believe these projects of course, are projects that touch the lives of residents of Abuja, and they will also have very positive impact on the economy of the FCT”. Speaking on the collapsed building, which resulted in the death of four persons and nine injured, the Minister lamented the sad situation and ordered the Director of Development Control to set up a panel to look into the cause of the collapse. He further disclosed that one of the engineers had been arrested, and the developer will soon be apprehended as well, while the premises have been sealed off. “Well, it’s unfortunate, and from the reports I got, we lost not less than 4 persons and some lives were saved. It’s very pathetic, very pathetic…Developers should also allow government to thoroughly supervise whatever construction that is going on. When you are constructing buildings of this nature, the lives of the people is very, very important. I have told the Director of Development Control to seal up the premises. We are going to set up a panel to really look at what really happened”, he stated. The Minister reiterated the need for developers to ensure that the Development Control Department is allowed to supervise every stage of construction, especially for projects of such magnitude. He, however, added that some developers often resort to blackmail whenever government agencies attempt to enforce compliance with building regulations. “Sometimes when we come to a site like this, the press has not been kind to us. Instead of finding out why government is taking that decision, some people will go to blackmail government officials”, he said. The minister stressed that strict compliance with building standards, including soil tests and the use of quality materials, remained critical to preventing future disasters. “In construction of buildings, we must know the quality. What materials are they using? Are they doing the soil test? What is the result of the soil test? Can it allow for two floors or three floors? All these are very key”, he stressed. He maintained that government’s primary responsibility was the protection of lives and property, lamenting that the lives lost in the collapse could never be replaced, saying, “How can you buy back these lives? They are gone! That is the responsibility of government: to protect life and property”. At the building collapse site, Director, Development Control Department, Dr Tpl Sunusi Bashir Madaki, in his preliminary report, disclosed that the soil at the site was made up from dredged waterways over the years. He also said that there was a local well of two metres depth at the location, which was not visible to officials or the developer. In his words, “There is a local well at the site which had been filled up with debris and clay, but was not visible to the developer, so column C and D of the collapsed structure were placed on the pit, and the length of the columns was 1.5 metres, the depth of the well was 2 metres, so that shortage created the collapse”.

…DISMISSES CRITICISMS OVER LAND ALLOCATION POLICIES The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate extension of the 10km Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) main carriageways from the Ring Road II Junction (Apo) to the Wasa Junction to ensure the full completion of the arterial network and provide seamless connectivity for residents and businesses. The Minister gave this directive on Thursday, May 7, 2026 during a routine inspection of vital infrastructure projects slated for inauguration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third-year anniversary. Speaking to journalists shortly after the tour, Barr. Wike expressed satisfaction with the speed of work, particularly on the OSEX bridge, stressing that he has directed the FCDA Executive Secretary to ensure the full completion of the project by the contractor, China Geo-Engineering Construction (CGC). He said, “I have instructed the Executive Secretary that from where this OSEX road will stop at Ring Road II junction, they should take it to the end of the OSEX at Wasa junction, which is about 10 Kilometers, so that people will be very happy that at the end of the day, this administration has been able to complete the OSEX carriageway. This is another promise made and another promise fulfilled”. Providing updates on the observed progress at the various project sites he inspected, including the Collector Road CN2 in Katampe district, streets within the Gaduwa District, and the Wasa Informal Sector site, Barr. Wike expressed massive satisfaction with the level of completion and commitment of the contractors. He commended the progress of work on the Collector Road CN2 in Katampe District which he noted was nearly 100% complete with streetlights and walkways already being installed. On the Wasa District designated relocation site for the Apo Mechanic traders, the Minister disclosed that the project was nearly completed, describing the move as the fulfillment of a long-standing promise that had stalled for over a decade. "Apo Mechanic relocation has been a thorny issue since the inception of this FCT. But thank God, under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it is no longer just a promise; it is now a fulfilled promise… We have provided the infrastructure needed. It’s just for them to come in and set up”, Barr. Wike stated, He said the Wasa informal sector would significantly expand the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base as businesses begin operations in the newly developed area. The Minister also confirmed progress on the critical satellite town water projects in Karu and Bwari, expressing confidence that the project would be delivered by the end of May. He lauded the resilience of the contractor for maintaining high quality and meeting deadlines despite the FCT Administration’s outstanding financial obligations to the firm. Addressing recent media criticisms regarding the allocation of land to Ambassadors-designate, Barr. Wike once more dismissed claims that the move was a misplaced priority. He reminded critics, including some media houses, that land allocation is a standard government function for those contributing to the nation's economic and diplomatic interests. "We always say, when you are living in a glass house, don't throw stones. What is so difficult about giving other Nigerians land where they can also carry out activities and make money?”, Barr. Wike queried, stressing that the government has also allocated land to major media organizations to set up headquarters and carry out profit-driven business. He said, “You cannot question the rationale that government allocated land to ambassadors. You say it's a misplacement of priority, that there are poor people who should get. But you didn't say this when land was also allocated to you”. The Minister further dismissed reports that government sells land in the FCT, explaining that the fees usually paid following allocation of land is for documentation and C of O. “Nobody buys land from the FCTA. When land is allocated, you pay the government to get your C of O. Even the ambassadors, will also pay something to government”. Clarifying government’s recent actions regarding the Jabi Lake area, the Minister revealed that the FCTA had to intervene after land allottees failed to develop the site for over 20 years. He said, “That place was allocated about 20 years ago and the allottees refused to carry out the development as agreed. They said they will make it a world class entertainment centre, tourism and all kinds of things and it was not done. “Government said we can’t allow this. It is a very good area for investors to come, and investors have come, and they have signed agreements. We have signed the memorandum of understanding and we gave them conditions. If they don’t carry out development within the specified period, government will take back the land”. The Minister stressed that he would "always stand by the truth," maintaining that the FCTA would prioritize realistic urban development and investment over playing to the gallery.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged united and free of internal factions following a decisive ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Speaking at a press conference at his residence in Guzape, Abuja, Wike said the apex court judgment has finally laid to rest all disputes over parallel leadership structures within the party. He dismissed insinuation that the Supreme Court affirmed the suspension of the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, saying there was no such issue for determination before the court. “Today, the Supreme Court has brought to an end the so-called factions of the PDP. There is no more faction in the party. There is only one PDP,” he said. The minister explained that the court dismissed appeals challenging earlier judgments from lower courts, thereby upholding the legitimacy of the party’s convention and its current leadership. According to him, attempts by aggrieved groups to overturn the outcome of the convention failed at all judicial levels. “The Supreme Court has validated our convention and set aside all claims to any parallel structure. What this means is that the PDP has come to stay as one united party,” Wike stated. He stressed the need for political actors to operate strictly within the framework of the law, warning against actions capable of undermining party constitutions and electoral regulations. “The fact that you are in a position does not mean you can act outside the law. There are rules guiding party activities, and those rules must be followed,” he added. Wike also dismissed the relevance of some defectors who exited the party during the crisis, describing them as politically insignificant, while leaving the door open for others to return. “Those who left are not electoral assets; they are liabilities. However, those who left out of uncertainty may reconsider and return now that the situation is clear,” he said. On ongoing coalition talks among opposition figures, the minister ruled out participation in alliances that lack clear national interest or constructive engagement. “We do not believe in opposition for opposition’s sake. Our approach is constructive, not destructive,” he said. He further noted that recent judicial pronouncements in political matters reinforce the need for due process, urging aggrieved parties to always seek redress through the courts. Wike maintained that the PDP remains Nigeria’s foremost opposition platform, expressing confidence in its readiness to provide credible alternatives in the country’s democratic process. “The PDP is stable, united and ready to play its role effectively. What has happened today is a victory for the rule of law and internal democracy,” he added.

...PLEDGES DIGITAL INFRASTRUCTURE AND MORE HOUSING SUPPORT In a decisive step to support legal education, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has announced the immediate waiver of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) fees for the Nigerian Law School’s Bwari campus, while pledging further infrastructure and digital interventions. The Minister made the disclosure on Thursday, April 23, 2026 when he received a delegation from the Nigerian Law School, led by the Director-General, Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, on a courtesy visit to his office. During the visit, the DG had highlighted the challenges facing the Bwari campus, and requested a waiver for outstanding land fees, even as she also sought the Minister's assistance in modernizing the school’s operations. In a swift response, Barr. Nyesom Wike approved the waiver for the school’s Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) and directed the Land Administration Department to ensure that the document is processed and delivered within one week. The Minister who expressed surprise that the institution was built on a land without C of O, said the trend where government institutions lack official land documentation was one of the issues the FCTA is addressing in its land reforms. “We are going to waive the C of O fee for you immediately. So, you will soon have your certificate of occupancy”, the Minister assured. To address accommodation challenges, Barr. Wike also pledged the provision of 10 housing units for the staff of the Nigerian Law School to be modelled after the 10 units of staff quarters already built by the FCTA. This is in addition to the ongoing work on two new hostels for male and female students. Responding to the DG’s request for enhanced classroom teaching solutions, the Minister expressed readiness to facilitate the digitization of the school’s business processes, moving from manual to computerized operations to improve administrative efficiency. He directed the Law School to engage the FCTA General Counsel on the digitisation of operations, drawing from ongoing reforms at the FCT High Court. The Minister stressed that the interventions align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda for strengthening legal education and judicial welfare and reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to the advancement of legal education in Nigeria. He said, “For us, anything the government can do to enhance efficiency and help our children, we will gladly do that". Earlier in her remarks, DG Odusote expressed profound gratitude to the FCT Minister for his long-standing contributions to the Law School across various campuses, specifically citing Port Harcourt and Yenagoa Campuses which she said benefited immensely from the Minister's direct support and invterventions. "We have to say thank you for your contribution to legal education. Your impact is felt across our campuses", the DG stated.

… DISMISSES ATIKU’S CRITICISMS OF THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT AS BASELESS The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reassured residents that the ongoing infrastructure revolution across the nation’s capital will not be slowed down by political activities leading up to the 2027 general elections. Addressing journalists on Thursday, 16 April 2026 shortly after a routine inspection of the Federal Highway 105 to Kuje town and the dualization of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, the Minister dismissed concerns that governance might take a backseat to politics, maintaining that the administration’s focus remains on fulfilling its mandate to the people rather than being distracted by electoral cycles. Speaking on the feasibility of implementing the 2026 budget in an election-heavy atmosphere, Barr. Wike insisted that work would continue at full speed. He noted that while politicians may be preoccupied with campaigns, the technical partners and contractors remain focused on project delivery. “It’s feasible. People must work. The contractors—are they part of the elections? No. So, people will work. People must feed. We wouldn’t stop our various works because of elections…Even before we get to January, we must have done virtually over 80 percent of what we intend to do. So, we don’t have any problems about that”, the Minister stated. Barr. Wike also stressed that the rapid progress on the Kuje-Gwagwalada axis is part of a deliberate strategy to decongest the city center and revealed that the contractors have promised to complete and hand over the ongoing road projects in Kuje by the end of May this year. Addressing a question on the financial roadmap for the projects, the FCT Minister explained that the FCTA is currently implementing the 2025 budget, which was extended to June. He stated that the 2026 budget, which includes provisions for the second phase of the Kuje to Gwagwalada dualization, is awaiting the approval of the National Assembly. Regarding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar criticisms that the current administration’s policies have not positively impacted the lives of Nigerians, Barr. Wike dismissed the attack as attempts to gain public sympathy and a distraction from the visible progress being made by the current administration. The Minister challenged the former Vice President to compare the FCT’s current transformation to what was achieved during his tenure. He described the former VP as a serial contester whose political career was nearing its end, emphasizing that the administration's primary business remains, ‘Providing what Nigerians need’. "Atiku is a serial contester and loser. Let him compare FCT now to when he was Vice President. Can he compare what is in FCT today to what it was then? His boss, former President Obasanjo, said the former Vice President is a complete failure and even attached corruption to his name. So, why would I reply to someone like that?", the Minister queried. Barr. Wike further refuted claims by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that he blocked their request for a convention venue and threatened to revoke the license of a private Event Centre which hosted the party’s convention, and challenged the party to produce any official correspondence or payment receipts to validate their claims of government interference. "I don’t even know where Rainbow (the event centre) is. I have no business with your convention. People just want to have public sympathy. If you don’t know what to do, for Christ’s sake, go and solve your problems. I will be very glad for them to be on the ballot so the stories can be over", the Minister stated.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUbB_gpGAC4?si=P32gWWyMBOacQeGI …SAYS REVOKED LAND WILL BE USED FOR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has ordered the arrest of the owner of a building which collapsed on Good Friday, April 3, at Jikwoyi area of the FCT, and directed the seizure of the land. Addressing journalists during an on-the-spot assessment of the wreckage on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Minister disclosed that the owner was already in the advanced stages of building a two-storey for a hotel without a building plan approval, even as officials of the Development Control had issued stop-work notices apriori, which were ignored. "Despite the lack of formal approval, the company proceeded with construction, leading to the eventual structural failure. There was no approval for the construction of this building. Development Control had issued stop-work notices, but the company ignored the notices and continued regardless", he stated. Barr Wike who frowned at the blatant disregard for compliance with laws in the country said, "We are trying to make sure that for anybody that doesn't have approval, we are going to bring the building down. For me, thank God no life was lost, but the owner will be arrested and prosecuted”. The Minister said the local community will be consulted to determine a suitable public-purpose project to be built on the reclaimed land. He stressed the need for strict compliance with building regulations, adding that obtaining approval allows the relevant authority to monitor construction standards and ensure the use of standard materials. The Minister directed relevant agencies to strengthen enforcement measures, including the demolition of structures built without approval, in order to prevent future incidents. "I have always said this, go to the Development Control to get approval, let them know what you are building, the quality of materials, and they will supervise it from one stage to another... Anywhere you see a building going on without approval, report to the government and we shall prosecute those who refuse to get approvals", the Minister emphasized. The Minister reiterated the commitment of the administration to safeguarding lives and property, urging developers to adhere strictly to laid-down procedures to avoid sanctions.

Says Reconciliation Efforts Will Continue After National Convention,l The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the National Convention of the People’s Democratic Party scheduled for March 29 and 30 will go ahead as planned, saying efforts at reconciling with aggrieved members will continue after the convention. The Minister, who also said that the PDP will shock Nigerians by using the 2027 general elections to show its strength, dismissed the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by the Tanimu Turaki group, noting that it has no effect on the convention. Speaking after inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, the convention venue in Abuja, on Friday night, the Minister explained that reconciliation is a continuous process. He was accompanied by Chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, PDP Board of Trustees Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC), Mohammed Abdulrahman, National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and other members of the NCWC, as well as Chairman of the Rivers State Elders Council, Chief Ferdinand Alabraba, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche and others. The Minister emphasized that the convention will proceed, while efforts to resolve internal disputes will continue afterwards. “There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a very large party. Look at the umbrella, it is wide enough to accommodate everyone. "I have always said that in any group, there will be grievances. You cannot expect that in a family of two or three people, everyone will always be satisfied let alone a party with millions of members. There will always be a few who are not happy. We have agreed to sit down with them, understand their concerns, and see how we can accommodate them. What is most important is the overall interest of the party.” On the zoning arrangement, the Minister confirmed that positions have already been allocated across regions. “We have already zoned our positions. Every zone has its own slots. The presidency has been zoned to the South, while the chairmanship is zoned to the North. We believe this consensus arrangement will make the process easier. "For the first time, the PDP is presenting a unified front, rather than the usual ‘unity list’ that often reflects internal divisions. There are no factions everyone has agreed on the direction we are taking.” The Minister also addressed the level of preparedness for the convention, saying; "We are fully prepared. This visit is to assess final arrangements. As I said, we are about 95 percent ready, and by tomorrow, everything will be set. "Seating arrangements for all states have been completed, and the VIP section is ready. We do not expect more than 2,500 delegates.” The convention is scheduled to hold on Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30.

...SAYS LAND GRABBING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED IN ABUJA The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reiterated that the FCT Administration will not tolerate any form of land-grabbing activities within the nation’s capital. Barr. Wike made this known while addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, March 13, 2026, following his visit to the site of demolition of an illegal development within the Diplomatic Zone, Katampe Extension, on a land originally allocated to 10 foreign embassies since 2008. The embassies are: Japan, Thailand, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Syria, Somalia, Serbia and Montenegro, Austria, Senegal, and the Palestine Liberation Organization. Speaking during the visit, Barr. Wike revealed that the land in question had been officially designated, since 2008, for the residential use of the embassies, but regretted that a developer had illegally encroached on the land without approval from the authorities. Accordi to him, “This land here was given to various embassies, and it was allocated since 2008. Of course, our people will always believe that nothing will happen, somebody just came here, took the land, and started developing it on his own without approval from the FCTA. The Development Control Department had to come in to make sure that we can’t allow this. This land grabbing must stop”. Barr. Wike emphasized that the FCT Administration would not be deterred by the level of investment already made by the illegal developer and expressed his resolve to protect the integrity of land administration in the FCT, particularly concerning plots reserved for diplomatic missions. He further disclosed that the Administration is pursuing criminal charges against the developer to serve as a deterrent to others and confirmed that, one Alhaji Kabiru Sahara, responsible for the Katampe encroachment, has been apprehended by the law enforcement and would soon be charged to court. “This is land allocated to foreign embassies for them to have their residential areas, and it will be very unfortunate for us to fold our arms and say, okay, the place is already developed. No, we won’t allow that. So, we have taken swift action. I’ve told them to bring down every building standing on this land, and we are writing to the embassies that we have taken over the land”, Barr. Wike stated. Beyond enforcement activities, Barr. Wike also conducted an extensive tour of several high-priority infrastructure projects in the city centre and sub-urban areas, including vital link roads, institutional developments, and urban beautification projects. He disclosed that most of these projects are on track for handover by May 2026, ensuring they are ready for inauguration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's third year in office celebrations.

…PLEDGES COMPLETION OF UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY ABAJI, OTHER INFRASTRUCTURE The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has announced the immediate upgrading of all traditional stools in the FCT as part of a sweeping reform of the traditional leadership structure in the territory. The Minister made the disclosure during a thank-you visit to Abaji Area council on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, where he addressed residents, stakeholders, and traditional leaders. Speaking during the visit, the Minister declared that all Second-Class traditional rulers in the FCT have been upgraded to First-Class status, while all Third-Class chiefs have been elevated to Second-Class. He said the promotion is in recognition of the monarchs' hard work and their vital role in maintaining community peace and cultural preservation. Barr. Wike said, “By the powers conferred on me, all the second-class traditional rulers have been upgraded to first class and all the third class have been upgraded to second class because you have worked hard for it and you deserve it”. The Minister also expressed deep appreciation for the loyalty shown by the people of Abaji during the council elections held on February 21, 2026, noting that out of 135 polling units, the residents delivered victory in 133 units for candidates supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He emphasized that politics is a "give and take" arrangement, stating that since the people have fulfilled their promise to the President, the government is now duty-bound to deliver good governance and tangible development rather than empty stories. In response to specific requests made by the Ona of Abaji, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Adamu Yunusa and the Council Chairman, Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, the Minister approved several major infrastructure interventions for the Abaji Area Council. He directed the Chairman to immediately provide a design for a new, befitting palace for the Ona of Abaji and pledged that the FCT Administration will also tackle two major erosion sites and an abandoned road project in the area. Furthermore, Barr. Wike also assured the residents that the Gurara/Yangoji, bridge which he noted has been a major source of concern for residents would be fixed promptly to end the suffering of commuters and students alike. Responding to requests for the full operation of the FCT University of Science and Technology located in Abaji, the Minister assured residents that under the current administration, the university will commence full operations. He called for patience, noting that anything worth doing was worth doing well, while emphasizing that the institution would not only serve as an educational hub but also act as an economic catalyst by creating jobs and opening up Abaji for further investment. “Let me assure you that under this administration, that university will start operation. All I pray for you is to be patient. We have made a promise that, that University of Science and Technology, under this administration, you will see the reality of it”, the Minister stated. While praising the humility of the Council Chairman, Barr. Wike however advised residents to be wary of those he described as fake politicians who only identify with the grassroots during election cycles. The Minister urged the traditional rulers and the people to remain steadfast in their support for the "Renewed Hope" agenda, promising that more transformative projects were on the horizon for Abaji Area Council. “All I want to plead with you, continue to support Mr. President, you will see that more good things will come”, the Minister stressed.

- SAYS THE PRESIDENT'S THIRD YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND FCT @ 50 CELEBRATION TO HOLD SIMULTANEOUSLY Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr Ezenwo Nyesom, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his massive support for the development of rural communities in the FCT. The Minister gave the commendation when the Management and Board of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA visited him in his office in Abuja on Thursday, February 4, 2026 as part of activities commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Federal Capital Territory. Barr Wike who decried the neglect of rural communities in the past, noted that their development has been prioritized under the current administration. He cited the example of the Tungan Madaki community along the precinct of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Internation Airport airport where he inspected an ongoing road project. In his words: "Today we went to Tunga Madaki. It's really shocking. I pitied the communities. But by the grace of God, by the time we do that road to Zuba, you will see how the whole place will be opened. How can we just be talking about only the city, when communities are denied of their basic things? They have no access to roads to even come to the city. I wish everybody would have the opportunity to go to the villages where there are no roads. That's what people should be talking about". The Honourable Minister further lauded the FCDA and its leadership headed by the Executive Secretary, Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, whom, he said, had aligned the activities of the Authority to the vision of the current Administration. Barr Wike who expressed joy at being the sitting Minister during the golden jubilee celebration of the FCT, however pointed out that the celebration would not hold in February but later in the year, alongside the President's 3rd Anniversary celebration. "I don't want to take away the shine from Mr. President. And I believe that, that compendium (mentioned by the Executive Secretary earlier) will be necessary to be launched during the 3rd year anniversary of Mr. President. “All these our achievements wouldn't have been made possible but for the very big support we have received from Mr. President”, he added. The Minister pointed out that the Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had carried out major reforms in the FCT Administration beginning with the creation of the FCT Civil Service. This, he said, has made it possible for FCT Civil Servants to aspire to the highest peak of their careers, even as Permanent Secretaries. The Minister also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for excluding the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA), thereby making it possible for the Administration to shore up its Internally Generated Revenue, and secure bank funding for infrastructural development. "Today, everybody is saying there's massive infrastructural development. If that was not made possible, we would still be hanging around. We would still be saying nothing is going on. So, we must appreciate somebody who has laid the foundation for us to get to where we are. We must appreciate and that's why I want to say that, very soon I'm going to set up a committee that will plan to commemorate FCT at 50, with Mr. President’s third year in office. It's very, very important", the Minister stressed. The Minister urged residents and staff to continue providing the needed support and expressed displeasure over the lack of appreciation of government's efforts and involvement in "Petty things". Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary, FCDA, Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, thanked the Honourable Minister for the level of achievement recorded within the last two and half years in Infrastructural development of the FCT, describing it as: "unprecedented in the 50-year history of the FCT and the FCDA. This is as a result of the commitment, dedication and proactive drive of the leadership of the current Administration under the visionary leadership of the Hon. Minister –Barr. (Dr.) Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON" He further stated that the Staff and management of the FCDA were "proud to be associated with the drive and achievements recorded within this period and for the privilege to be part of this unique history". He disclosed that all achievements of the administration in the past two and a half years will be documented in a compendium and presented to the Minister at a later date. He went on to pledge the loyalty, commitment and dedication of the FCDA to the task of building a new Federal Capital that all Nigerians will be proud of under the leadership of the Honourable Minister.

…SAYS POLITICS HAS ITS TIME, AS HE INSPECTS ONGOING PROJECTS ACROSS THE FCT The Hon. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has said that political activities for the upcoming general elections would not slow down the pace of work in the nation's capital. Barr. Wike stated this in Abuja on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, while briefing journalists shortly after a routine inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in the capital territory. Fielding questions on the possibility of political distractions, Barr. Wike emphasized that service delivery remains the priority of the current administration, reaffirming that he is committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda and infrastructural goals of the FCT Administration. The Minister said, "Politics is different, you have to serve the people. Politics has its own time. The work will continue to go on. Politics is not going to affect it. If you say so, the Area Council elections are coming up in the next few weeks. Are we not doing our work? It doesn’t affect us. What is important is for us to pay the contractor…From time to time too, we will come and see by ourselves. So, the politics of 2027 will not affect our job. The only way it will affect is that people will be happy and see that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real”. Barr. Wike also provided updates on the projects inspected, including the Collector Road C01 within the Institute and Research District which links Baze University, Body of Benchers, Nile University and the Wupa Train Station of the Abuja Light rail, the Annex building of the Body of Benchers and the access road from the Bill Clinton Drive to Tungan Madaki community. He said significant progress has been made on the Collector Road C01, adding that the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) has also committed to a May 2026 completion date, positioning the project for inauguration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s third year anniversary. The Minister further stated that the Body of Benchers Annex Building was also currently 80 per cent complete and expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of work. On the access road to Tungan Madaki from Bill Clinton Drive, the Minister explained that the 7-kilometer road, which features a four-span bridge, was conceived as part of a compensation agreement for the second runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, adding that the project is scheduled for handover in the second week of June 2026. In a move to further improve connectivity, Barr. Wike announced that he has directed the Executive Secretary of the FCDA to coordinate with CCECC on a design to extend the Tungan Madaki access road to link up with the Zuba road in order to open up the area. "We are opening up other areas. You can imagine what the people here suffer during the rainy season; it’s unimaginable. “I have directed the Executive Secretary to liaise with the company, CCECC, to see how we can link it up to Zuba road. I’ve directed them to bring the design and that again is about 7 kilometers. There is nothing we cannot do as far as this administration is concerned to give the people what they deserve, the best”, the Minister stressed. https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenationonlineng.net/2027-election-wont-stall-infrastructure-projects-in-fct-wike/amp/

...Recognises Abdulrahman led Caretaker Committee As Authentic A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in the city between November 15 and 16, 2025. The court also ruled that the Caretaker Committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remained the only recognised National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP, pending the conduct of a valid national convention. Recall that the Kabiru Turaki faction of the PDP had filed Suit Number FHC/IB/CS/121/2025, seeking recognition of the convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025, and validation of the NWC that emerged at the convention In a judgment on Friday by Justice Uche Agomoh, the court also barred Turaki and other officials purportedly elected at the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party forthwith. The court held that the Convention was conducted in flagrant disobedience to two subsisting judgments of the same court, adding that returning to seek judicial approval for actions taken in defiance of court orders was an exercise in futility. Consequently, all decisions taken at the convention were set aside by the court. The judge further declared that the PDP can only operate through the caretaker committee until a proper and lawful national convention is held. Reacting to the judgment, counsel to the PDP Caretaker Committee, Chief Ferdinand Oshioke Orbih, SAN, described the ruling as a boost for Nigeria’s democracy. According to him, the claimants had sought judicial endorsement of what he described as an illegal convention, but the court firmly rejected the move. He said the judgment affirmed that the rule of law must prevail over political expediency, stressing that all actions and structures arising from the convention had been completely nullified. Orbih added that the court’s decision underscored the inevitability of the caretaker committee taking charge of the party’s affairs until a valid convention is conducted in line with the law. He noted that the ruling sends a strong message to political actors on the importance of obeying court judgments, warning that disregard for the rule of law could lead to chaos. The judgment follows a protracted crisis within the PDP, which held a contentious national elective convention in Ibadan in November 2025 despite existing court orders. Earlier, a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, had ordered the suspension of the PDP convention in a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido. Lamido had challenged the process, alleging that he was denied the opportunity to purchase a nomination form to contest for the party’s chairmanship, in violation of the PDP constitution and guidelines. |
... WARNS AGAINST POLITICAL HIJACK OF WORKERS DEMANDS The FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike has described the decision of the National Industrial Court to suspend the indefinite strike action by workers as a victory for the rule of law and a necessary step to protect the FCT from politically motivated disruptions. Reacting to the court’s intervention while speaking with journalists shortly after the verdict, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Barrister Wike noted that the judicial order mandates an immediate return to work and issued a stern warning that any attempt to block the gates of the FCTA or defy the court’s ruling would meet with severe consequences. According to the Minister, “The court has called off the strike. If anybody dares to block the gate again, then I will use the person as a scapegoat because you must obey the law. We are in a democracy and not in a military government. "I’ve given them the window. From tomorrow, if you don’t come to work, we are going to apply the big stick. If we see anybody who says he wants to block the gate, we will make you a scapegoat. The law must take its place", the Minister reiterated. Barr. Wike who also expressed concern that the strike action had been "hijacked" by political interests and disgruntled elements, warned that the FCT Administration will not succumb to blackmail, intimidation, or insults. While noting that the administration remains open to genuine dialogue, the Minister said, "The moment you no longer act as a worker and you now act as a politician, then I will face you. We will treat you the way politicians are being treated". The Minister acknowledged the rights of workers to protest in a democracy; however, he emphasized that the administration has already met the vast majority of the union’s demands. He revealed that the FCTA has been proactive in addressing staff needs, noting that of the 14 demands presented by the union, over 10 have been fully resolved. The Minister further detailed the administration's commitment to the payment of wage awards, confirming that December payments were made while January payments have been processed and that of February is also on track. "If you are requesting 14 things and the government has met over 10 of them, reasonably you should be able to give the government some time", the Minister stated. "It is not correct to think that this administration will deny workers their entitlements or wages". The Minister used the opportunity to also clarify the FCT’s finances and the challenges of administration. He explained that the FCT only receives one percent share of what the Federal Government gets from the Federation Account and requires additional funding from internally generated revenue to meet its financial commitments. Despite the challenges, Barr. Wike revealed that the FCTA, under the current leadership, has recorded appreciable growth in its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), from ₦9 billion to ₦30 billion, enabling it to fund massive infrastructure projects alongside worker welfare. The Minister also reminded workers of the unprecedented institutional growth achieved under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s "Renewed Hope Agenda”, including the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission, the appointment of the first-ever Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries for the FCTA, exiting the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to allow for better financial flexibility and growth for workers. Without these achievements, Barr. Wike said it would be impossible to meet workers demands and stressed that the decision to embark on strike by the workers could not be justified. The National Industrial Court of Nigeria sitting in Abuja had earlier ordered the Joint Unions Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to immediately suspend its ongoing indefinite strike. In a ruling delivered today, Justice Emmanuel Subilim granted an interlocutory injunction sought by the FCT Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike to restrain the defendants - the President of the Joint Union Action Committee, Rifkatu Iortyer, its Secretary, Abdullahi Umar Saleh and their agents from embarking on any industrial action, picketing, or lockout. The court held that under the Trade Dispute Act, once a matter has been referred to the Industrial Court, all parties must cease industrial action and maintain the “status quo” pending the final determination of the suit. “An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby granted, restraining the claimants and representatives… from further embarking on any industrial action against the claimant. The order shall remain in force, pending the determination of this suit,” Justice Subilim said. The court adjourned the matter until March 23, 2026, for the hearing of the substantive suit. The court’s decision comes after a week of total administrative paralysis in the FCTA due to the indefinite strike embarked upon by workers to demand the immediate payment of outstanding promotion arrears and wage awards as well as the remittance of long-overdue pension deductions, among others.
