As much as it is quite unfortunate that the beautiful ones depart when least expected, we are of high optimism that the departed have seen rest. Today, with everyone wrapped in sadness, the body of our leader, YemiLikeDat was laid to rest amidst cry. Without mincing words, the death of heroes is like the sunset as it brings along the darkness and fright of the night and also leaves upon
the marble of heart the inscription of indelible ink. We believe that though he has left us so soon, his contributions to the development of this noble association shall always be celebrated.


As we mourn him, we must not but appreciate the efforts of the national leadership of the association ably led by Danielson Bamidele Akpan, the President for his commitment towards ensuring that the dead was given a burial that is worthy of writing about and the SUG executives of The Polytechnic, Ibadan. This note will not be ending without recognizing everyone who have been inspired by the life and beyond of LikeDat in keeping the flag flying for a better society. What we do today will definitely live on after us.


Greatest appreciation to all Nigerian students. This death would no doubt raise the bars of our demands for a sane, safe, secure and habitable environment.


We shall not cease to remember the deceased for his good works and commitment to humanity.

LET'S IMBIBE THE SPIRIT OF SHARING, CARING - ALABI URGES BARIGA PEOPLE AT CHRISTMAS

The Chairman of Bariga Local Council , Hon David Kolade Alabi wishes Bariga residents a happy Christmas.

In his Christmas message, Alabi said "sharing and giving are the core of the teachings and practice of Jesus Christ who shared and gave even His own life while he lived among men".

He declared, “Let us give and share love with each other in our families, in our homes, in our places of work and business and everywhere we interact with our fellow men. Let us care for the vulnerable and give unconditional love" .

“Over the years, the lessons of Christmas and Jesus Christ whose birth became the reason for this season resonate in teachings like unconditional love, forgiveness of sin, grace, sharing and championing the cause of the weak and the oppressed as well as the vulnerable. The Executive Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon Alabi Kolade David has reiterated the council’s commitment to engage the people in participatory government in which citizens will have their say and way.
He also said the administration would promote growth and development of the council in accordance with the democratic principles of due consultation, full disclosure, transparency, inclusive participation, responsive leadership, rule of law and due process.

The council boss spoke during a stakeholders’ meeting on the council’s 2020 Budget tagged *Budget of Reality , held at the council’s secretariat Bawala, Bariga.

"It is, therefore, in this light that this forum has been organised to demonstrate our commitment to fulfilling that pledge, by getting your inputs and do needs assessment " he said.

Stressing the need for the council to carry out more developmental projects that will impact positively on people’s lives, Hon Alabi added that it was as a result of that need that the council had repositioned his government to enable them to deliver on their assignment. .

"Today , we stand on the threshold to build a new Bariga , the Bariga of our pride , the Bariga we all would be proud of , hence our policy thrust is repositioning , rebranding and transforming Bariga"

Furthermore , he said we are determined to build the Bariga of our dream, the one that will be devoid of cultism and cultist, area boys, garbage littering, stinking drains and dirts.

Continuing, he said " it is important that we invite critical stakeholders, particularly landlord association, because we are operating a bottom top approach and all inclusive governance, in term of infrastructure, education, security, healthcare, environment and social services. Government is not all about building roads and bridges, its also about providing social services, so we need to hear from you to make the budget a reality"

Alabi also used the opportunity to inform the audience of all the projects that has been embarked by the administration and long term giant strides the administration has taken .

On road and infrastructures, he mentioned that the administration is on its 19th roads and majority has been delivered, and palliative work has been carried out on many roads by BROMA in Famous, Bawala, Oguntona , Ajidagan, Fetuga, and other areas. Palliative has also started at Obanikoro road from Falemi to Ebinpejo and
Alabi street behind Adaranijo market.

Sixty (60) precast culverts were done across all wards , three blocks of classrooms and 22 blocks of toilet were constructed in Gbagada girls junior high school, same is been done at Baptist Junior high school, where a block of classrooms is been constructed.

In the early life of this administration, four roads were constructed, Danmole, Eyiowuawi, Ogunmefun, and Akanbi, the old council secretariat was also renovated, marriage registry and hall was also remodelled, and a staff canteen was opened for the staff benefit.
He also mentioned that work is also completed in Adetoke street,, and Community street, while Ewenla, Emmanuel street , Omobokun street, Jolaosho street were on the verge of completion.

Also completed are Ademolu street, Adeyinka Oshijo street, and Famosa lane, while work is ongoing at Falade, Morohunfolu, Thomas drive, Egberongbe, Olusegun lane, and Soji Oshodi collector.

The council boss also added that a new ambulance has been procured for the health department, the old one has been refurbished, revenue bus has been procured for effective delivery of the revenue team as well as Environment bus for the environmental team. Two staff buses has been procured for ease of staff movement, and four school free ride buses for students. Ten boreholes were also constructed across all wards.

The old CMS PHC has been rebuilt to a standard one , with a pharmacy, laboratory , accident and emergency and doctor's quarters.

The council boss said some palliative work will be done in some areas before Christmas.

On the plan for next year, he said his administration will improve on security by introducing community policing and procuring 8 buses, and each will serve a ward, and member of LNSC, Vigilantes, civil defence and DSS will be working with the police round the clock to achieve a maximum security , he also said work will commence on Alfa Sanni street, Akinwale street, Ajidagan, Wemimo, Olanrewaju street, Sanyaolu street , and also construct the bridge to link Olorunesan and Olorunfunmi street.

"While not resting on our oars to transform Bariga, the council in collaboration with State, 11 roads are been constructed, the roads are Ajiun street, Awofodu street, Ososa Avenue, Odo-Oba street, Ososa cresent, Bolowosere street, Ayoka street, Ifelodun street, Onajimi street, Kayode Adebiyi, and Pemu Otunubi street," Concluded Alabi.

The long term future of Bariga were also addressed by the chairman, he said investors are willing to partner with Bariga LCDA on the regeneration plan.

#Promotion of Education from Grassroots

With consistent bid to ensure a conducive environment that will enhance adequate teaching and learning accross Bariga Local Council Development Area schools. The Council Chairman Honourable Alabi Kolade David (AKD) set to commission just built Classrooms block, toilets among others at Gbagada Junior Secondary School located at Bariga LCDA.

With close observations since inception of this administration, the Education sector has been one of the key area of interest to the Council Chairman in redefining the orientation of the populace toward public schools, its creation and effectiveness.

Ahead of 2019 International Students Day, NANS Leadership holds World Students Press Conference Discussed Lingering Issues (FULL TEXT)

The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) Lagos axis organized world press conference to address issues facing students in tertiary institutions in Lagos. However the press Conference was to point out the plight the student and her leadership are facing till recent time in Lagos.

According to the NANS Chairman Lagos axis he acknowledged load of challengings are facing the institutions which are not the best practice at this timeout for state and national development.

BEING THE PRESS TEXT DELIVERED BY COMRADE BUSARI ABDUL-QOWIYY ADELAJA; CHAIRMAN, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS (NANS), LAGOS AXIS.

Gentlemen of the press, members of the Lagos State Economic Advisory Council, My Ever gallant Student Union Presidents and my fellow Nigerian Students, I greet you all in the name of peace, democracy and freedom for all. I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the entire students in Lagos State.

National Association of Nigerian Students has lost it Integrity in the sight of an average student in the Country. But ever since the emergence of this present administration of NANS JCC Lagos under my own Leadership Comrade Busari AbdulQowiyy Adelaja, have always plan to engage all Student matters ideologically and formally because I believe it is very important to JOJO than to WARWAR.

There are burning critical issues in the mind of an average Nigerian Students in Lagos State. This is why we have come together to address these issues in the most polite manner expected of an intellectual group, being the umbrella body of all Nigerian students (NANS).

State of Students Welfare in Lagos State
Lagos State is developing and can be felt through the continuous transformation of the democratic processes which is not only acknowledged as one of the most preferable in Africa, but also admired across the world. A stronger and open democracy is feasible, but what comes of our expectations when the institution that ought to strengthen it (democracy) can't sustain it in their immediate environment?

Today, several students are threatened, suspended, rusticated in our tertiary institutions; Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Universities for diabolical reasons which include protesting against exorbitant fee increments. This is inclusive of suspending the union bodies (Students Union Governments) who can speak for the students in their various campuses.

In order to avert the use of protest and the image it may paint to the World, we hereby urge and beseech our governments at various levels to interfere and help us stop the increment in tertiary institutions school fees and also help us bring our voice (SUG) back to Unilag and Yabatech respectively.

SAVE LAGOS 2019 (Students Against Violence Everywhere in Lagos)
Violence is part of everyday life in Nigeria. As the country is striving to reconcile with its past antecedents, it also faces many challenges of the present. One of the most urgent problems is the high crime-rate witnessed within an average street of the largest commercial city of Nigeria, Lagos state, whether it is a result of political, economic and social differences, it at the end give birth to youthful citizens being perpetrators. Though, the Sanwo-Olu led government have within the short while of coming into power made the state much more peaceful than almost all the other states in the country, yet, news of violent crime are becoming so frequent that some tertiary institutions in Lagos state has become inured to them. Although the intensity of immediate reactions to violence mitigates, fear increases.

Therefore, there is a dear need to sensitize our students on violence of any form and the damage it is doing to their career, community and institution they belong to; every sensible individual should know there is no positivity attached to violence either in school or in the society rather it brings downfall to the nations’ productivity level both politically and economically.

In this regard, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Lagos chapter has deemed it fit to host a convergence to discuss “Students Against Violence Everywhere in Lagos (SAVE LAGOS)” and its impact on security, peace and good academic standard in our tertiary institutions and in the state at large. This summit will also feature the presentation of the Pride of the Students Leadership Award to the leadership of the Lagos State Economic Advisory Committee led by our courageous mother and mentor, Mrs Yetunde Akinluyi for her immense contribution to student’s growth within the state while maintaining peaceful atmosphere for effective and efficient learning.

We hereby use this medium to call on the Nigerian Police Force ably led by someone we call our Father CP Muazu Zubairu, Comptroller of Custom Zone A Compt. Aliyu Muhammed, Director of DSS Mr M.S AbdulFattah, NDLEA, EFCC, Government Organisation, NGO's, Private Companies and Private Individuals to partner with us in making this programme a Memorable and record breaking in the history of Lagos State.

2019 INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS DAY CELEBRATION IN LAGOS
The International Student Day is not simply the anniversary of the events that took place in Prague in 1939, but more significant a symbol of what students of the world are fighting for at the local, national and regional levels through the International Union of Students. To this day, the seat of the International Union of Students remained and located on the historic 17th November, in tribute to this struggle and to the courage of Students, especially those who lost their lives in the course of the resistance.

The emergence of the executive governor of Lagos state, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu (BOS) earlier this year was indeed a glorious feat and victory for the entire students in the state because we supported him and followed all his day to day campaign for months with our huge capacity, we engaged him positively during the last international students day in 2018 and we were assured that his victory will bring a positive change in the living standard of our people in the state.

Yes, it is just over 100 days since your emergence, but we can beat our chest boldly with pride that our governor did not disappoint us, you have turned our dear Lagos to a much more peaceful environment where anyone can invest and be rest assure of no security threats like we witnessed in other state especially in our school environments.

Earlier before this administration, it has always been in form of a walk from Students across the state from IKEJA under bridge to Alausa to express their grievance in the State of Education in Lagos state. But under this current NANS JCC Lagos Administration, the students’ leadership in Lagos State therefore wishes to cease this opportunity to celebrate the 2019 International Students’ Day with His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu as a breakfast meeting. While major issues relating to students-government relationship can be better positioned.


MASS FAILURE OF SS II STUDENTS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN LAGOS
According to our research, it was gathered that as part of plans to reduce the promotion of ‘INCOMPETENT’ pupils from SSS II to SSS III, the state Ministry of Education implemented a new policy.

The policy recommends that for a pupil in SSS II to be promoted to SSS III and the state to pay the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees, the pupil must pass the third term Examination.

Besides passing English and Mathematics, the scripts were also taken to different schools for grading. This is contrary to the previous method where a cumulative of first, second and third term results guaranteed promotion.

In our findings, we find out that Teacher’s attitude also hinder learning especially when one does not present oneself as a high intellectual and formidable person. “A quack Doctor is capable to handle an individual at a time but a bad teacher can ruin not only the individual but also a Nation. The state is faced with the problem of competent teachers in Mathematics and English which is the major causes of this mass failure in our Secondary Schools.

The State Ministry of Education also has a direct role to play as it relates to discipline of both the student and the teacher, supervision of teaching and learning and preparation of students well enough for examination.

Also, “An effective mental health for principal includes emotional, stability, maturity of character and a large capacity of frustration tolerance with the strength to withstand the strain and stress inherent in running today’s Nigeria secondary school without undue fiscal or psychological disequilibria”.

Many principals are faced with managerial difficulties especially those who lack human relationship cannot execute effective administrative duties in the schools. For example, a school that lacks discipline hardly achieves the aim and objective of the educational system. Through these factors enumerated above, it could be seen that, there are many causes attributed to mass failure in our Senior Secondary School Examination.

We understand that Examination is the only instrument that could evaluate the performance of both students and teachers at the end of their school career. And don’t also forget that, the Success or failure of the student in examination is a clear manifestation of the student academic activities during the teaching. Success or good performance determines a brighter future for the student while failure is disastrous as it always indicate a dropout which is the common effect in the area of the study.

Finally, we believe that all our aforestated will definitely aspire the Commissioner for Education Mrs Folashade Adefisayo to seek for possible recommendations and solution to students, teachers and government to bring an end to student mass failure in our Secondary School Examination and to improve student performance in the future examination in their respective school and also other part of the country having similar Educational problems.

We also use this medium to seek the involvement and partnership of highly influential Personalities like Michael Otedola, Mike Adenuga, Dangote, NGOs to support the state government to fund Education in the state so as to ease them of the huge amount allotted for the WAEC FEE in Lagos State

SEX FOR GRADES
We call for urgent action to address sexual harassment against students. It is so barbaric that the issue of sexual harassment against women was not unique to Universities, but has become prevalent in the society, including religious settings.
We hereby condemned sexual harassment against students totally; it was unacceptable as the nation’s Educational system had suffered many setbacks that had hindered its development.

We believe it is our responsibility time to speak up, speak out and stand by victims of sexual abuse, saying the culture of silence must end. There are laws to protect victims of sexual harassment and abuse, but such laws cannot operate except victims speak out to get justice. We need to be accountable for the well being and care of our students, ensure justice for survivor of sexual abuse and the political will to prosecute and punish offenders.

This simply has to change. It is no longer enough to sweep allegations under the carpet or force victims to withdraw their allegations, victimize or stigmatize them. Women dignity and self respect should outweigh whatever challenge they face, we shall support fully to ensure a sexual abuse free society for our female students.

Universities should have clear sexual and violence policies that will protect students and the sanctity of the educational system. Also, Universities need to be accountable for the well being and care of the students, ensure justice for survivor of sexual abuse and the political will to prosecute and punish offenders.

We commend the BBC team for their hard work, bravery and tenacity to expose the ills facing students in the country’s tertiary institutions. We urge the society to desist from shaming survivors of sexual abuse, rather name, shame and punish offenders to serve as deterrents to others.

We also advocate for a safe environment that would enable women share their experiences without fear, and ensure diligent investigation and prosecution of offenders of such allegations. We collectively amplify their voices against issues of sexual harassment and abuse against girls and women.

HON. YETUNDE AROBIEKE INSPECTS DRAINAGES AT BARIGA LCDA.

Commends Bariga environmental gang

Calls for sensitisation of residents in clearing of drainages

The Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Community affairs, Hon. Yetunde Arobieke,today, inspects drainages at Bariga LCDA as the Vice Chairman , Hon Adeola Kuponiyi led the team to charlie boy drainages and canal.

The drainage inspection in all the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Area embarked upon by the commissioner is to ensure they all conforms to the state directives on drainages of ensuring separation of waste, reduction of scavengers, getting involved in waste to wealth , and sensitisation of residents to desilt their drainages

" The free flowing of water to the secondary canal shows that the council has embark on several drainages clearing which has helped to increase its environmental status . I appreciate and commend the chairman for this special act of using environmental gang to clear the drainages ,the environmental team should also sensitise the residents on the need to keep drainages clean," the commissioner concluded.

The chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon Kolade Alabi who was duly represented by his Vice , Hon Adeola Kuponiyi, addressing the commissioner at the Charlie boy canal side, informed her about the environmental gang that works day and night to clear the drainages , and this was why we recorded few cases of flood compare to the past, and she assured the her that the Kolade Alabi's administration is not resting on his oars, as he has also reported the issues to the state government in order to combat those areas with severe flood cases caused by the sand filling of Oworonsoki area of the state .

The commissioner's team was welcomed by the vice chairman , alongside the SLG, Hon Bukola Adedeji, legislators, supervisors/ SAs, the council manager , Mr Olufemi Ogundeko, the council treasurer, Him Samuel Apata , Head of departments , and council staffs.

The Governor’s directive followed the conclusion of his series of meetings with eight multi-national engineering firms, which began a few weeks back. After his final meeting with the contractors on Sunday, which lasted for about three hours, Sanwo-Olu declared the commencement of major construction work on the identified highways considered critical to the reduction of traffic congestion in the State.
The Governor said all the eight engineering firms had been given the mandate to immediately mobilise their equipment on the sites and commence major construction works on the identified roads.

He said: “This afternoon, we have just concluded meeting with various reputable construction companies and all of them have been given the brief to immediately commence major construction work in various parts of the State. The exercise will begin tomorrow with palliative work on the selected roads, which are both on the Island and mainland divisions of the State.
“The contractors have been given the mandate to start mobilising their equipment to their respective sites without further delay. Their activities must first give our people an immediate relief on the affected roads so that there can be free flow of traffic even during the rehabilitation work.”

To complement the major construction work on the highway, Sanwo-Olu said Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) would be carrying out repairs of 116 inner roads across the State. This, he said, would be in addition to over 200 roads already rehabilitated by the corporation in the last three months.

The Governor said he was not unaware of the pain experienced by road users in the past few days, which was compound by persistent downpour. He appealed to residents to bear with the Government while efforts were being made to assuage their pains and bring permanent relief to them.

He said: “We expect the rains will begin to subside in this month of October and this is why we are mobilising our contractors to immediately start the major construction work on the identified highways and bring permanent relief to residents. I am giving all Lagosians the assurance that the contractors will start the construction in earnest and will deliver on the terms of agreements reached with them.”
Sanwo-Olu said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be working round the clock to control traffic on the areas where the construction would take place.
Special Adviser on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye, listed some of the critical highways and roads to be constructed to include Ojota stretch of the Ikorodu Road, Motorways-Kudirat Abiola Way, Apogbon Highway, Babs Animashaun Road, Agric/Ishawo Road and Ijede Road in Ikorodu, and Lekki-Epe Expressway from Abraham Adesanya to Eleko Junction.

She added that there would be massive re-construction work on a network of roads in Ikoyi, Ikeja GRA and Victoria Island.
The contractor deployed by the Government included Julius Berger, Hitech, Arab Contractors, Metropolitan Construction, Slavabogu Construction, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), Rajaf Foundation Construction, and RCF Nigeria Limited.

The Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon Kolade Alabi has stated repeatedly the government’s commitment towards making life better for residents of Bariga through the provision of infrastructures that will spur economic development, social engagements and an environment suitable for businesses.

The Chairman made this known while carrying out inspection of projects ongoing across the council area, noting that the infrastructures upon completion would make transactions, learning and health a seamless activity for all.

Projects inspected included the ongoing road construction at Adeyinka Oshijo, Jolaosho, Adetoke , Ewenla , Church street, Community street, and Emmanuel street.

Others are two blocks of classes/ offices and twenty toilets at Gbagada Junior Girls High School and CMS primary health centre , all are due for commissioning in three weeks time .

The council mayor was accompanied on the inspection by the Vice chairman, Hon Adeola Kuponiyi, SLG, Hon Bukola Adedeji, legislators , LGA chairman, Reverend Timothy Oyasodun, Supervisors/ SAs, the Council manager, Mr Olufemi Ogundeko , the Council Treasurer, Hon Samuel Apata, and heads of departments and staff of the local council.

In view of this , the chairman also gave instruction of immediate construction of twelve other roads , six of which will start immediately , they are Falade (contractor already in site )Egberongbe , Moronfolu , Thomas Drive , Olanrewaju Lane and Famosa Lane, other roads that will follow immediately after are Olohunfunmi/ Olohunesan bridge phase one , Olohunfunmi/ Olohunesan street, Akinwale street, Wemimo street , Alfa Sanni, Charlie Boy/ Ajidagan Road , and others

Alabi also visited the Art and Craft section of CMS primary school , and are due for rehabilitation in two weeks time after the department would have been temporarily moved to another side of the school.

1. That the Association condoles with families and victims of Xenophobic attacks in South Africa and the huge human and material losses it has continued to bring to Nigerians.

ALGON commends the intervention of the Federal Government to ensure the protection of all Nigerians while urgingeveryone to support the development and growth initiatives of Governmenttowards socio-economic safety nets that will guarantee the return of our brothers and sisters who left the shores of the country in search of Greener Pastures and became endangered species by unbalanced circumstances in the hands of their host.

3. The Association is also concerned that the rising insecurity, kidnapping and other social vices in the country or which from all indications requireeffective inclusion of the entire Local Government Administrators given its vast grassroots-strength and demographic advantage with a bottom up approach as part of paradigm shift with proven possibilities of reducing it to the barest minimum.


4. The ALGON Board of Trustees (BOT) and the National Executive Council (NEC) regret that the grassroots have always been at the receiving end of every challenge that the Country go through due to its consequential proximity to the people which was what lead to its collective resolve to forge a common front through its present leadership led by the National President Hon. KoladeDavid ALABI whose ingenuity and leadership prowess has brought the Association’s trajectory back on the part of peace, unity with sustained strategy for developing the 3rd Tier of Government as a model of excellence.

5. We wish to also unanimously express our unflinching loyalty TO HON. KOLADE DAVID ALABI‘S LEADERSHIP AS THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT OF ALGON and aver unequivocally our consensus solidarity as well as unbroken loyalty to his administration which is presently bringing back the ideals and objectives of its founding fathers as enshrined in Section 2 of the Constitution of our Association.

6. Furthermore, his recent purported removal was the most unfortunate FAKE NEWS of our time and should be ignored in its letters and spirit. Whereas, the faceless ‘ANDREW ALU’in unknown to the body of ALGON. All allegations raised were mere exhibition of ignorance on the part of the architects who were misguided by deliberate mischief against ALGON Constitution-page 11, Section 19 sub section 2.

7. In the light of foregoing, the BOT and NEC of ALGON wish to warn against any form of distraction or external forces/fifth columnist to ALGON, at no point in time did ALGON.At no point in time contemplatechanging its present exemplary leadership and do hereby call on the General Public to discountenance the “FAKE information, Press Releases, Advertorials to that effect”.Media institutions areby this communiqué enjoined to hold sway to their professional ethics and always clarify all issues with the Secretary General of ALGON.

Members of the National Executive Council of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Sunday expressed shock over a purported communique removing their national president, Mr Kolade Alabi.
According to them, there was no such meeting where the decision was taken.
They urged the press to always verify information from the right sources before going to press.
ALGON Secretary-General Binta Bello wondered where such meeting was held.

Bello said: “My attention has been drawn to an alleged meeting of ALGON National Executive Council on the 6th of September. I want to confirm that no such meeting was held. As the Secretary-General of the association, the responsibilities of the process of convening such meeting is vested on me or as delighted by me of which neither of the two happened.
“It is rather unfortunate to claim that such a meeting took place which further claimed the removal of the incumbent President Mr Kolade Alabi. I urge all ALGON Staff to guides against illegitimate information and to remain.”

Nassarawa State ALGON Chairman, Mr. Aminu Muazu Maifata, also stated that the entire story is a hoarse but capable of destroying the main fabrics of ALGON and should therefore be deeply investigated.

Maifata said; “I write to refute the purported removal of Kolade David Alabi – the incumbent National President of ALGON as circulated on the on-line platform of national newspaper.
“To the best of my knowledge, neither was there a NEC meeting nor a resolution to that effect without the National Secretariat’s Knowledge.”
His Akwa Ibom State counterpart Frank Archibong said the report is grossly misleading and absolutely condemnable in all ramifications.

“I am not only an Exco Member of ALGON, I am also a NEC member of our association. How can anyone be so unkind to his nation and deliberately want to cause confusion to a most dynamic and trusted leadership more so that the writer is “faceless”!

“In a few days, the entire ALGON NEC will be meeting where the source of the publication will be unravelled with the media in attendance.”
ALGON Delta State Chairman Itiako Malik Ikpokpo described the person that released the purported communique as an “impostor”.

Ikpokpo said: “I am a member of NEC and whoever released that statement is an imposter and not known to ALGON. These are people who have become rouges and almost destroyed the foundation of ALGON to which President Kolade Alabi was elected to correct and clean up and he is doing a great job.
“Alabi went through a local government election and won in Lagos. He was given Certificate of Return by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). Delta ALGON is proud of Alabi’s strides by changing the face of ALGON to properly put our association to where it belongs.”
Taofeek Isa from Kogi Statte chapter described the report as “unfounded, reckless and most embarrassing.”

“As a member of ALGON NEC, I emphatically deny knowledge of any meeting where our NEC “removed the democratically elected Kolade Alabi” as ALGON President. Suffice to say that the mischievous individual who sponsored the dastardly publication to embarrass the amiable National President for personal benefits is an inconsequential rascal known to all members. I urge you to discountenance the fictitious story as published,” Isa said.

Taraba State ALGON Chairman Stephen Ibrahim said the person that signed the communique is not known to the association.
Ibrahim said: “My attention has been drawn to purported removal of our national president Kolade Alabi where one Andrew Alu who though claims to be the National Publicity Secretary. This is Scandalous with a most haunting venom of “the ranting of an ant”.
“More importantly, Not only is the said Andrew Alu unknown to the body of ALGON, we do not also have such name as our National Publicity Secretary. I confirm to you that no NEC meeting was held at Nicon Hotels.”

Ezekiel Pabuet from Plateau said: “Gone are the days where imposters can be used to tarnish and undermine the image of a very serious body like ALGON that was once a formidable voice in this country for which the present leadership is trying to bring back. We cannot sit and watch people of questionable and unstable character that are not even part of ALGON and never contested an election of any ALGON Office to make such flagrant and unfortunate statement. Such action must be investigated and handed over to Security Agents when found culpable in order to serve as lesson to others.”

Two National Executive Council (NEC) members of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) have dismissed the purported “removal” of Mr Kolade Alabi as National President of the body.
The Chairman of Delta ALGON, Mr Itiako Ikpokpo, and his Plateau counterpart, Mr Ezekiel Pabuet, refuted the reported sack on Sunday evening.

In separate statements made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York, Ikpokpo and Pabuet dismissed the announcement of Alabi’s removal as the work of impostors

NAN reports that one Mr Andrew Alu, who claims to be the National Publicity Secretary of ALGON, announced the sack in a statement earlier on Sunday.
Alu had cited an alleged breach of the 1999 Constitution as the basis for the removal of the national president.
Alabi, who is also the Chairman of Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, represents the state in the ALGON NEC.
But Alu said Alabi was not qualified to be ALGON president since Bariga LCDA was not among the constitutionally recognised 774 Local Government Areas in the country.
However, Alabi denied the allegation, saying the process of his election as the association’s national president was constitutional.
In his reaction, Ikpokpo said whoever issued the sack notice was an imposter not known to him and other members of the NEC.
“These are the same people who almost destroyed the foundation of ALGON which Hon. Alabi was elected to rebuild, and he is doing a great job.
“Hon. Alabi went through an election in Lagos, won and was so declared by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LSIEC).
“Delta ALGON is proud of his work and the stables he is cleaning up to properly put the association where it belongs,” he said.
Similarly, Pabuet said there was no division in ALGON, adding that Alabi was “overwhelmingly elected by the NEC of which I am a member”.
He said: “Gone are the days where imposters were used to tarnish and undermine the image of a very serious body like ALGON.
“The association was once a formidable voice in this country, and that is what the present leadership is trying to bring back.
“We cannot sit and watch people of questionable and unstable character that are not even part of ALGON, to make such flagrant and unfortunate statement.”
The Plateau ALGON boss said those behind Alabi’s purported removal should be handed over to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution to serve as deterrent. (NAN)

SANWO-OLU GIVES STEWARDSHIP, LISTS ACHIEVEMENT IN 100 DAYS

…Lagos Gov: ‘We Have Taken Bold Steps, Brought Relief To Residents’

Before a joyous gathering of residents and All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday gave account of his stewardship in the last 100 days as Governor of Lagos State.

His administration, the Governor said, has brought relief to the people of the State in key areas, thereby improving the well-being of the populace.

In a 45-minute speech, Sanwo-Olu listed activities of his government, which, he said, had yielded positive results since inception of his administration. The event marking his 100 days was held at LTV Blue Roof in Agidingbi.

The Governor said the effort to take Lagos to new heights in line with his campaign promises and manifesto of the APC remained on course, revealing that his administration had taken bold steps to build on the foundations laid by his predecessors.

The Governor disclosed that his Executive Order declaring emergency on traffic management and transportation in the State had brought about reasonable relief to the residents, adding that the effort was swiftly complemented with speedy rehabilitation of arterial roads to reduce travel time and stress for commuters.

He said: “After taking the oath of office 100 days ago, our resolve to make Lagos greater is being manifested through our six pillars of development, known as Project T.H.E.M.E.S. This development agenda was carefully formulated to tackle the problems identified in sectors that are strategic to the growth of our dear State.

“Since we came on board, we have remained committed to the course instigated to make Lagos a 21st century economy and a safe place to live. On assumption of office, we were confronted with major challenges, including traffic management and environmental sanitation. Potholes dotted our highways and heaps of refuse were a common sites in our communities. Traffic situation became a source of concern to residents.

“Within 24 hours in office, I signed the first Executive Order that contained strategy on how we could manage traffic and transportation. The State’s traffic management agency was authorised and empowered to operate two daily shifts to control traffic up to 11pm. We have been achieving desired results in this area.”

The need to restore the aesthetics of the environment and improve the health of residents, the Governor said, led to the immediate upgrade of Lagos’ waste management infrastructure to achieve efficient services in waste disposal and also to realise cleaner environment.

Sanwo-Olu said the capacity of Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) was urgently improved on to remove heaps of waste that littered streets and highways, thereby saving the State from an outbreak of epidemic that could result from indiscriminately dumping of refuse by residents after the disengagement of LAWMA by the last administration in overseeing waste management.

This effort, Sanwo-Olu said, was followed by the launch of Blue Box Initiative last Thursday, which would enable the State to create jobs and wealth from recyclable waste materials.

The Governor also said his administration had kept its campaign promise to ease traffic gridlock along Apapa-Oshodi corridor caused by illegal parking of trucks. He noted that his government’s collaborative action with the Federal Government led to removal of the trucks from the affected highways, thereby resulting in improvement of traffic situation on the axis.

He said: “In collaboration with the Federal Government, the Taskforce we set up to remove illegally parked trucks went on tough assignment to return discipline along the Apapa-Oshodi corridor. I am glad to inform you that we have seen tremendous improvement and we are happy with the results in the last 100 days. We will continue to attend to the situation for permanent solution.”

In the area of infrastructure, the Governor said his pledged not to discontinue inherited projects from last administration had restored the confidence of contractors handling construction of various infrastructure projects to return to site and complete them. He said work had resumed on the Badagry Highway and other critical projects inherited from the last administration.

By December, Sanwo-Olu said his government would have completed the Badagry highway to open up the area for business and tourism.

In healthcare delivery, the Governor said the recently concluded “Healthy Bee Initiative” of the Lagos Government in which 25,000 residents benefited from free treatment and surgery was a tip of other programmes being initiated to improve healthcare in the state.

Days after the Governor commissioned a 110-bed Maternal and Child Care (MCC) in Ajah, he said another 140-bed MCC had been completed by his government in Alimosho area. The hospital will be commissioned in two week to strengthen the capacity of the State in providing sound maternity care for residents.

Sanwo-Olu said the State-owned Health Insurance Scheme was being strengthened to extend its services to more than one million residents in order to give them affordable healthcare services. He said the capacity of the primary health facilities across the State was being stepped up for quality healthcare.

On education, the Governor revealed that the State had concluded a plan to recruit more than 10,000 teachers. He said his government had already appropriated resources for the upgrade of public schools, which would also be equipped with required materials to aid quality learning.

To actualise the Smart City aspiration of his administration, Sanwo-Olu said Lagosians, in the coming weeks, would witness the deployment of metropolitan fibre optics across the State. The project, which is being initiated in collaboration with a private telecommunication firm, would provide Internet infrastructure that would aid e-commerce and tech innovation. He added that his government was discussing with key power distribution firms to distribute 20,000 metres to residents to ease challenges of accessing power.

The Governor appreciated Lagos residents for keeping faith with his administration, adding that the support accorded his government made the success of the last 100 days possible.

He said: “My experience during these first 100 days in office has shown that the determination to build greater Lagos is audacious. I can assure all residents that my government and members of the State Executive Council are ready to bring about more programmes and actions that will take Lagos to greater heights in socio-economic development. The coming days will be filled with good governance and more successes.”

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, described the 100 days of the Sanwo-Olu administration as “excessively eventful”, pointing out that the government’s activities had touched security, environment, healthcare, traffic management, education, housing and economy.

Omotoso said the rousing welcome regularly accorded the Governor at every stop was a testimony that the administrations’ development agenda was on course.

At the event included the APC leaders, traditional leaders led by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, members of the Executive Council, civil society, market leaders, students and youth groups.

APATIRA SUSPEND ACTIVITIES OF NURTW IN ITIRE-IKATE LCDA


The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Olarenwaju Apatira has put a halt to the activities of National Union Of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the council area, on Friday, 6th September, 2019.

The Council Helmsman hinted that the decision was taken after numerous complaints of threats of looming anarchy amongst the NURTW members were brought to the fore by residents of Itire-Ikate LCDA.

Apatira said the decision became inevitable due to intelligence report gathered in the last few days of an impending factional overthrow and counter overthrow of leadership of the Union within the local government area.

"It is worrisome that residents of Itire-Ikate LCDA cannot sleep with their eyes close due to the lingering crisis that has emanated from the union members few days ago."

"All measures taken over time by security personnel in the local government area to bring lasting and peaceful resolution to the breakdown of peace, law and order by the members and agents of the Union proved abortive as lives and properties in the local government have come under severe threat.

The Chairman said that the Council is invoking her constitutional right to own and manage Motor parks as stated in “Schedule 4 made pursuant to Section 7 of the 1999 Constitution, paragraph 1e thereof, which provides for Establishment, Maintenance and Regulation of Slaughter Houses, Slaughter Slabs, Markets, Motor Parks and Public Convenience”.

"The suspension order would be in place till sanity and peace is guaranteed by members of the Union."

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, in fulfilling his campaign promises, has shown his relentless effort to give dividends of democracy the people of Somolu.

The Council Mayor as part of his monthly welfare package has invigorate over 40 members of Somolu as a community. Not less than 24 petty traders of cooked noodles got cooking gas cylinders, cartons of noodles and N10,000 each to support their businesses.

The petty traders were full of joy as they said the N10,000 support will go a long way to help their business. "I can't thank Dullar enough for the gift, especially the cooking gas cylinder which will make my cooking easier, faster and profitable", a petty trader known as Iya Ibeji said.

Moreso, the multiple awards winning Council Mayor rolled out names of 20 members of the community who are mostly entrepreneurs got N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each to help their businesses too.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State House of Assembly Member representing Somolu Constituency 1, Hon. Rotimi Olowo, also rolled out the list of 20 other constituents who also got N100,000 (One Hundred Thousand Naira) each.

The duo of Council Mayor and the Veteran Legislator boasted about the present secured communities in Somolu. They, however, gave the credit to the people, government and security agencies for their commitment to Somolu as a community.

Recall that council Mayor of Somolu gave N100,000 to the first set of 20 people in Somolu last month of July. At the event, Hon. Olowo Rotimi had promised to add 20 more people from month of August.

The August gathering witnessed a large turnout of Somolites as hundreds of politicians who identified themselves as "Dullar's Backup" which was written on their creatively design caps.

Also at the meeting are the apex leaders of APC in Somolu, party executives, ward chairmen, councilors and Supervisory Councilors with the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Dele Afolabi. Political Office holders and past administrator of the council like Engr. Abiodun Orekoya (past Vice Chairman and Executive Secretary) and Hon. Williams Lawason (past Sole Administrators) were happy to be part of the great movement of Dullar.

The Executive Chairman had promised the people of Somolu that the monthly empowerment programme won't disturb the monthly welfare packages for the elderly people in Somolu.
