Tragedy struck yesterday at Ubomiri community in Mbait­oli Local Government Area of Imo State when a 20-year-old girl allegedly stabbed her under­graduate lover to death with a kitchen knife in their house.The suspect, Chisom Anyanwu who is a student of Akwakuama Girls Secondary School, Owerri had allegedly killed his lover, who visited her following an argument.The deceased, simply identified as Apo, aged 28, an undergraduate and a native of Egbeada also in Mbaitoli council area had paid an unscheduled visit to his girlfriend at their family house at about noon yesterday.However, it was learnt that trouble started between the two lovers when the suspect who was cooking, did not take kindly to the deceased’s unscheduled visit to her family house. She asked him to leave immediately as she would not want her elder brothers and sisters to see him. But the deceased allegedly refused to leave and in the altercation that ensued between the two lovers, Chisom allegedly grabbed the kitchen knife and stabbed Apo on the chest.The deceased, who was said to be the only son of his parents, according to an eyewit­ness, was rushed to the Christian Medical Centre, Nworieubi in the area where he eventually died..However, angry youths of Egbeada com­munity, on hearing of the death of their kins­man, stormed the family house of the suspect and allegedly set it ablaze.The state police command’s spokesman, Mr. Andrew Enwerem (DSP), said the sus­pect is in their custody, while investigation on the matter has commenced.

Today that phone would embarrass the owner and is a joke compared to the low cost and everyday phones..... What about the KENCELL OR SAFARICOM SIM card that many people went extra miles, once selling for over 30k, today all networks are begging people to even take their sim cards for free... People are still making the most horrific sacrifices over 'vanity' and make enemies over worthless material things. What can I say? Look back at that one thing you want to kill or die for today, and see what becomes of it tomorrow

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) stated it would consolidate on the gains of its 2013 struggles in 2014.
This has been contained in a statement signed by the ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Fagge, in Abuja on January 2, 2014, Thursday.
Dr. Fagge recalled that 2013 was a year of struggle to salvage the Nigerian education system from the"jugular grip of Bretton-Woods Institutions".
He further noted that a significant increase in budgetary allocation to the education sector would be pursued in 2014 to achieve UNESCO's 26 per cent recommendation.
The ASUU President said that the Union would also follow-up on its agreement with the Federal Government concerning the welfare of lecturers to ensure implementation and industrial harmony.
The union also plans to convene a National Summit on Education to unfold the problems of the sector and proffer solutions.
"There will be a general improvement in the quality and access to education at all levels for the Nigerian citizens.
"2014 is the year in which, if we all do our bit as required, a foundation to genuine national development will be laid through the production of quality manpower at all levels for our dear country,"Dr. Fagge said.

Renowned Nigerian Prophet T.B. Joshua has declared 2014 as a year of "crossing the bridge," prophesying it to be a year of destiny where corruption would be corrected in Nigeria as corrupt leaders would go down.
It was an electric atmosphere in The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) where large crowds thronged to usher in the New Year 2014. T.B. Joshua came out around 11pm to deliver his much anticipated prophetic message in a broadcast beamed live via the churches popular television station Emmanuel TV.
He first counseled believers to stay steadfast in faith despite the challenges that would arise in the coming year.
"We are tempted so that we may pray the more. Afflictions are meant for our spiritual benefit," he encouraged the congregants and television viewers.
Moving on, he spoke about what was to be expected in the New Year, attendees listening with rapt attention and scribbling notes as he spoke.
"This New Year 2014 is not like any other year in the past. It is a year of crossing bridge. To cross the bridge, you need to grab onto faith," he began. "This is not going to be easy for the mighty. Many of the mighty will fall. Pray for them. The rich, famous and popular people - many will fall this 2014 because crossing the bridge is not going to be easy; they need God. Many of them believe it is their own making to be great in their own area of expertise."
He went on to decry the effect this 'fall' would have on the business world as, according to him, "98% of businesses and companies are owned by these people." Specifying a field of business that would especially be affected, he said the airline industry would face multiple challenges, leading to an unprecedented rise in ticket prices, particularly noting that African airlines would be most affected. Joshua further declared 2014 to be a year of destiny for those would 'follow the ways of the Lord'. "Many people that are not known will be rise by destiny," he prophesied.
Talking about the current Nigerian political situation, Joshua said,
"There will be a leadership tussle on who will lead and who will be presidential candidate in APC which will affect them as a political party. They should be vigilant. Many are with them in flesh but not with them in spirit."
Talking about the current crisis Nigeria's ruling party PDP are embroiled in, the prophet stated that they would 'pay any price to unite' but that the issue of who would be the presidential candidate would cause challenges.
"Many of the key leaders in political parties will go down in 2014," Joshua then announced to the somber audience. "If many key leaders go down with 2014, what will now happen in 2015.
Joshua then prayed for the congregants who all lit candles to symbolize the dawn of the New Year.
"God has promised that 2014 is the year of destiny. Your destiny cannot be changed. This New Year, your destiny cannot be tampered with. I command your dream to come true, your dream to come to fulfillment, in Jesus' name."

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has announced the suspension of its week-long strike.
The suspension of the strike is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday and signed by the association’s National Secretary, Mr Promise Adewusi.
It said that the decision to suspend the strike was informed by the Federal Government’s compliance with the association’s demands.
“Following substantial compliance to our demand for the payment of August and September salaries of our members which is the reason for our current national strike action, we hereby suspend the strike and direct all our members to return to their duties with effect from Monday, the 14th of October, 2013.”
The statement thanked members of the association for their solidarity, adding that the non payment of the salaries of its members for work done would not happen again. (NAN)

A Korean model, known to be addicted to plastic surgeries, injected cooking oil into her face when doctors refused to perform any more cosmetic operations on her.
Model, Hang Mioku, now about 50 years old, has been left with a badly disfigured face following her desperate attempt to attain softer and smoother skin.
Mioku had her first plastic surgery when she was 28 years old, and soon became obsessed. She moved to Japan to pursue her career and underwent several more bouts of surgery, Mail Online reports.
However, after undergoing repeated operations to enhance her looks, doctors refused to provide her with any more silicone injections when her face became noticeably enlarged. A desperate Mioku then injected an entire bottle of black market silicone into her face and finally decided to inject cooking oil, leaving her cheeks and forehead severely swollen and scarred.
Following the do-it-yourself beauty treatment, Mioku was left so disfigured that her own parents could not recognize her.
When doctors analysed her, it was confirmed she was suffering from a psychological disorder

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has commenced an indefinite strike, starting from Friday, October 4.
This was confirmed by the ASUP president, Chibuzor Asumogba.
"Yes, of course, the strike has begun today (Friday). It's still going on and no turning back till the Federal Government listens to us and attend to our needs; none has been satisfactorily met," he said.
ASUP is asking for the removal of the dichotomy between HND/University graduates in placement and career progression; constitution of an effective and functional governing council for polytechnics; a white paper on visitation panels to polytechnics and a much-needed assessment of polytechnics.
The strike is expected to commence fully in polytechnics across Nigeria from next week Monday.
The polytechnic lecturers had earlier in the year embarked on a strike, for the same reasons. The strike lasted almost three months and was suspended on July 16 after the intervention of federal lawmakers. The lecturers say the government has not made concrete efforts since then to address their demands.
A similar nationwide strike by university lecturers is in its fourth month as the lecturers, ASUU, demand a full implementation of the 2009 agreement they had with the federal government.

A Bosnian man is suing his ex-girlfriend for allegedly"abusing" his sperm so she could bear a child with European genes.
The 41-year-old Ahbabovic, who is also a Malaysian permanent resident, is a commercial director of a private limited company in Malaysia.
Ervin Ahbabovic filed the suit in the High Court Registry through Messrs The Law Chambers of Mohamad Fauzi on Friday.
The suit was made known to the press on Tuesday. In the statement of claim, Ervin said he entered into a relationship with the 29-year-old in the hope that he would establish a "God-blessed" union.
The 41-year-old commercial director of a private limited company alleged that they had lived together and were blessed with a baby boy born on Feb 7, 2010.
Ervin said that at the time, he hoped the relationship would develop and lead to a marriage.
The defendant, however, apparently did not reciprocate his feelings and perceived their relationship negatively.
After the birth of their son, Ervin alleged the defendant constantly looked for faults and quarrelled with him, creating a harsh and disharmonious environment.
Ervin, who was also a business consultant for several companies since 1995, claimed he eventually realised that her sexual desire anddominant attitude towards him crossed normal boundaries.
He alleged that she demanded sexual intercourse with six times a day, for approximately one houreach time.
He added that she constantly threatened to commit suicide if her sexual desire was not fulfilled or if he left her.
Ervin claimed that the defendant became violent and stabbed his left forearm on Sept 3, last year.
He said he felt humiliated, subdued, traumatised, extremely stressed and shocked because the defendant not only chased him out from the house but also prohibited him from seeing his son.
After the incident, Ervin said he contacted the defendant to reconcile for their son's benefit, but she told him that he was merely a "tool" and wanted his sperm to have a better offspring.
The plaintiff is seeking monetary compensation of RM600,000 for the usage of his sperm for the purpose of getting a child in a wrongful way and also to have him recognised as the father of their son in the birth certificate aswell as costs and further relief deemed fit and proper by the court.
Ervin's counsel Nasir Yusof told the media that the case management had been fixed on Oct 1.
Nasir said he would serve the writof summons to the defendant within 14 days beginning on Wednesday, Sept 4

laps as doctors explained
"They were fused at their back
when they came to us which is
very rare," paediatric surgeon
Prashant Jain said.
"Usually the twins are joined in
the head or the upper body. It
posed a huge challenge to our
team of doctors," children's'
surgeon added.
The separation took place last
month and lasted for 18-hours.

organs which include the lower
spine, lower intestinal and
urinary tracts as well as
genitals.
"We carried out rehearsals using
dummies. All tubes, wires,
injections and drugs were
colour-coded in pink or blue
(for each girl) to avoid any
mistake," he said.
Jain said only 15 percent of all
conjoined twins are born with
this type of condition, known
medically as pygopagus. Medical
literature lists just 32 such
cases, he said.
It would be recalled that Kano-
based Badaru family were
seeking N600,000 for
separation surgery . It is truly
fantastic that they found the
money, and the operation went
well.
The family can head home to
Nigeria after a series of month-
long check ups, the surgeon
said.
