As has been said a lot already, Africa does get earthquakes, just much less of them.
The reason Africa gets less earthquakes is because of the tectonic plates. Where two plates connect is where you get earthquakes. When they run into each other you get mountains, when they pull apart you get depression (the Mariana's trench is formed from plates pulling away), and when they grind against each other laterally, you get
stuff like this. I've seen more dramatic examples, but that demonstrates the concept well enough.
